So the Cambodian psychedelic rock band is called Dengue Fever, a blend of 60s British psych with Khmer folk music. Here's my favorite album of theirs.
I appreciate OP educating others about music around the world, but to say that "Cambodia got really into Psychedelic Rock" is not the whole story. In the 1960s, the pop rock of the West was very influential in the Cambodian music scene, and you had artists like Ros Serey Sothea who got famous for blending Western rock with Khmer folk music. Similar music scenes existed in other nations; somewhat famously Iran and Afghanistan had lots of syncretic culture with the West.
This cultural interchange ended abruptly in Cambodia with the rise of the Khmer Rouge, a violent and autocratic Communist state. Because they weaponized Khmer nationalism, the Khmer Rouge looked down on influences from other cultures particularly those from political opponents in the Cold War (i.e. U.K. and U.S.A.). Much of the once-popular music was destroyed (those few tapes that remained are now valuable collector items), along with the artists themselves. I won't discuss in details the rumors of Sothea's disappearance, they can be found in the Wikipedia article I linked above. Like many other victims of Pol Pot's regime, the only known truth is that she is yet another desaparecida.
It's no accident that Dengue Fever combines 60s psych rock with Cambodian folk vocals; it's a love letter to a bygone past, a music scene that was incredibly influential and then ripped from world culture.
I recommend listening to the surviving recordings of Ros Sereysothea's work, especially if you enjoy Dengue Fever. Interestingly enough, one of Sothea's tracks is immortalized as the sample to the track Books of War by OMEGAH RED, featuring MF DOOM and RZA, some of my favorite rappers.
Every once in a while a new music genre gets invented and people from all different countries are like this slaps we got to start doing that and combine it with our own music styles and that's beautiful

what music/games do you all listen to
Doc here. The rest of the crew is out on operations and Carl is in surgery for the fifth time this year, so I'll answer you. Sorry 'bout the delay.
Mistral likes Arch Enemy a lot. I didn't really take her for a death metal gal, but hey, what do I know. She listens to a lot of New Wave, too. She LOVES Blondie and got me and the guys (except Sundowner) into Joy Division. Mistral also listens to a lot of film scores to wind down, especially Gladiator and Blade Runner.
As for games, I know she's a big fan of older action games, the older Resident Evils, Quake and Doom and whatnot. Talks a lot of shit in fps forums.
Monsoon is...something. Handing him the aux when we go out is like a game of auditory Russian roulette. He could put on some Ros Sereysothea from when he was a kid. He could play nothing but Die Antwoord. He could play 70's Queen. He could play incoherent electronic sounds until you scream at him.
He's the biggest gamer out of all of us, his favorites are DMC and Bayonetta. He's competing in the Wii Taser Boxing tournament with Sundowner and I now, and if he wins, we'll be hearing about it for the next six months.
Sundowner is a simple man. He likes rock, country, and that's about it. We have a lot of the same taste in country artists, we grew up on Cash, Nelson, Jennings, and, as much as he'll deny it, he'd take a bullet for Dolly Parton. Sadly, with the exception of Lynyrd Skynyrd and Motörhead, his taste in rock is a bag of hot shit. Once I tried to tell him Five Finger Death Punch is for angry alcoholics with erectile dysfunction and he just yelled "HELL YEAH BROTHER" and cranked it louder.
He isn't really a video game guy. The only video game he plays is Wii Sports, and he only plays it because I challenged him.
Sam, interestingly enough, likes grunge and 80's rock. Some of his favorite bands are Van Halen, Foo Fighters, and Iron Maiden. He can sing almost every Black Sabbath song in Portuguese. He's been trying to learn Eruption on guitar. Once we were out drinking and he somehow managed to play it flawlessly on some kid's ukulele. I guess beer gives him guitarist powers. Oh, and he loves Shakira. No matter where he is, if you put her on, he will drop everything and get up to dance. Flawlessly.
Sam's our second biggest gamer. He's a fighting game guy. I still can't beat him at Mortal Kombat or Guilty Gear. He could probably thrash me with his eyes shut, too. Maybe I'm too old for this shit.
Intern Carl probably listens to Imagine Dragons or some dumb shit like that. Probably plays Tetris on his stupid little phone.
I listen to a lot of country, I also had a buddy back at ArmsTech who got me into industrial music. We used to swap cassettes while we worked, I'd listen to his mix while he'd listen to my Merle tape. I hope he's doing well.
I haven't gamed much. I remember liking Half Life a lot when I was younger. Had a coworker who's last name was Freeman, so I used to mess with him, talking to him in an awful G-Man impression...miss that guy.
That should answer your question. Sorry again about the wait; Desperados stay pretty busy.

Man, Jealous Too
Tumblr media
written by Chakriya PHOU
illustrated by Lina LONG
Chili is spicy; woman is always jealous…
It is a song sang by Ros Sereysothea and other famous two singers.
My husband laughs when he hears this song.
I like this song. I always display it in the evening.
In my opinion, woman loves her man truly that’s why she is always jealous when she see her husband is close with another girl. Man does not understand. He usually blames wife that her mind is narrow. My husband likes to say this to me too.
I and my husband got married for two years but we don’t have kid yet.
Everyday, he goes to work, and I stay at home with a young niece – she is daughter of my cousin.
A neighbor of mine has a son. He is about two years old. When my husband is off, I usually take the kid home and take him back to his parent before my husband arrives.
Everytime I bring baby, I put him on our bed. I was told that if I want a baby, I should bring baby to play on bed. It is a belief of Cambodian.
My husband does not know about the kid.
One day, he comes home early.
I am in bedroom. I do not know that he arrives. I am having fun with the kid.
Suddenly, the door is pushed. I am shock. As I turn face to the door, I see my husband is standing there. His face is red like fire, at first, then he shows surprise expression.
Behind him, it is my niece. Her face is pale.
“What’s matter?” I say.
“No, nothing,” my husband shakes head, then he walks off the room.
I carry the baby. I take him back to his parents.
When I come back, I call my niece.
“What happened with your uncle?” I ask.
My niece narrates.
When my husband came home, he did not see me, so he asked her where I was. Then she said, “Auntie is in the room with young man.”
She says following me; I usually call the kid, ‘young man’.
Suddenly, my husband tied his eyebrows. He ran to the bedroom. He kicked the door to open.
I laugh after hearing.
I did not know that my husband is like this.
He misunderstood about the word ‘young man’; he thought I cheated on him with another guy.
“Aunt, I never see uncle is angry like last moment,” my niece says. “He was really angry. His face was red. He ran like storm and he kicked the door hardly. I was scared when I saw him. The door lock is broken.”
I smile.
I call to locksmith to replace new lock for my bedroom’s door.
I stay silent. My husband is embarrassed, but he tries to behave normally. At night, when we go to bed, my husband asks, “Today, you do not play the song?”
“No,” I say.
“Why?”
“Because now I know that not only woman is jealous but also man is.”
My husband smiles. As he turns off the light, he whispers, “I want a kid.”
