rating Ropin' Ranch!
Ropin’ Ranch is definitely a game with a purpose! it makes great strides to educate the players about ongoing issues in the ranch world. one very cool thing about it is that it regularly holds events to raise awareness about ongoing horse auctions with ethical problems and horse kill-buyers and problems i’d never heard about. my second favorite thing about this game is that there is literally a PDF that explains how to play every single part of the game. it’s 89 pages long. and there’s a separate pdf guide for genetics! that’s awesome! and you don’t have to struggle to get access to it or anything!
there’s much more to this game than just horses. you can also get goats and chickens and cows and participate in the dairy and meat industries. there’s competitions! there’s training! there’s stats! it’s a nice little actively developing browser game! it has the vibes of a tight-knit small town community in that there’s a low player count, but they seem very dedicated.
unlike horse eden eventing, it feels less like the 90s web, and more like a second wave of New First internet, like there was a world-resetting calamity and this is the first horse game to spring from the ashes, full of hope and rebirth.
there’s a lot of heart and passion going into this! it’s very Not monetary gains! it is a little clunky around the edges and i only got buttons to go in the right places on Chrome, not firefox, but you can really tell that people really care about this game. why not check it out?
i’m rating Ropin’ Ranch 4 out of 5 stars!
★★★★☆
i can’t wait to see what it looks like in a year or two!

a horse game appropriating and misusing Native American culture for The Aesthetic? It's more likely than you think.
#star stable has dream catchers that they associate with their magic druid characters#the minecraft mod SWEM made a stereotypical horse with the feathers and handprints#ropin' ranch (a browser horse breeding game) has TONS of Native American imagery EVERYWHERE - it'd take too long to list them all

Ropin’ Ranch Auction Awareness
Bowie Livestock Auction/Bowie Kill-pen is in Bowie Texas. It runs on the first weekend of every month. Horses are brought in within the prior week and placed into pens. This would normally be a fun event - however horses are considered livestock and therefore horses with physical abuse are dropped off and forced to await the actual auction Sunday Night. Horses in dire need of vet care have to undergo the pain of waiting - and sometimes don’t make it until Sunday night. All Seated In A Barn is a rescue located in Bakersfield California - with a new facility in Milsap Texas. They go to this auction every month in order to try and get horses out. Horses who do not sell - are given to the kill-pen Monday afternoon - horses who ended at the Kill-pen (normally 100-150 horses) are loaded onto a trailer and will make it’s way to Mexico. Horses will have to go another 48-72 hours without food, water or sunlight. This event that we hold every month is to bring awareness to this awful system. https://www.ropinranch.com/ThePipeline.php

A Somewhat Comprehensive List of Horse Video Games
I will be editing this original post with new games, new information, and so on. If you see a reblogged version of this post, it is worth going to the original post to see if updates have been made.
Ahead will be a list of games that either were released recently and/or are being actively maintained. I have not personally played all of these games. Do not take this list as my personal recommendations.
If you have games you would like to suggest for this list, please let me know!
Some games are listed in both the Single Player and Multiplayer sections. This is due to them having the capability for either.

The Sims 4 Horse Ranch
Black Desert Online
Upcoming
Some but not all of these games have demos or paid beta testing, though none are officially available yet.

Windstorm: The Legend of Khiimori [Steam]
Details about some of the games:
Rival Stars Horse Racing
Rival Stars has two versions. Desktop via Steam and Mobile. While the gameplay itself (e.i racing, breeding, etc) are identical there are massive differences in how it functions. Mobile has micro transactions and limits on how much you can do a day without paying money. The desktop version has no micro transactions and no limits on how much you can do at any given time. Desktop, however, does not get updated as often as Mobile. I could go on and on listing various pros and cons between the two versions, but ultimately I personally prefer Desktop due to the lack of micro transactions or wait times and in addition Desktop has the ability to make custom horses, which is quite fun. It's worth checking out the mobile version first, however, so you can see if the game appeals to you as the Mobile version is free to play.
Astride
Astride is in "early access" on Steam, though that can be misleading. What is currently available is little more than a tech demo. You can create a horse and ride around an area on it, utilizing Astride's unique jumping system, and you can given play with friends. However, it is extremely glitchy, the lighting looks awful right now, and overall it just... isn't good. That said, it is still in progress and I personally have hopes that it will become a full fledged game as promised someday. That day is not today and so I personally recommend not purchasing it until it has gotten a few good updates, unless you just really want to financially support the developers.
Horse Isle 3
Oh boy. I'll just point you towards this article about some of the issues with the community management of HI3. Be warned if you intend to play, moderators are inconsistent about the rules they enforce and you can very easily get banned for saying harmless things. Personally, I stay out of the chat and I'm careful with what I name my horses. Horse Isle 3 is a one of a kind game, sadly, that allows for extremely detailed breeding. Realistic genetics combined with the ability to breed for all sorts of shapes makes it a very compelling game, which is why so many people continue to play it despite... the issues. It is free to play, though there are paid aspects to it. However, you can earn the premium currency within the game and utilize paid features without ever paying your own money.
Minecraft
Minecraft can be a fun horse game using mods or server plugins! The mod SWEM adds a lot of content that makes for good realistic horse roleplay, though doesn't fit well in survival style gameplay. The mod Realistic Horse Genetics actually doesn't change much of the horse functionality, making it a really good fit for survival gameplay, but adds lots of realistic genetics and a better system for inheriting stats than vanilla minecraft. The mod Genetic Animals will be adding horses soon.
Red Dead Redemption 2, Red Dead Online, and RedM
While it is not intended to be a horse game, RDR2 has horses that feel so very real. They are well animated so they feel alive and they respond to their environment in realistic ways. Many people purchase the game purely because of the horses. There are mods you can use to improve the horses in Single Player, though I've never used any so I can't offer suggestions. Personally, I really like Red Dead Online for the horses because the horses can't die and there are a few more breed options. You also can look into joining a RedM server. There is one called Rift that is specifically meant for horse enthusiasts.
Roblox
I know nothing about Roblox personally, but I know there are several worlds (games? I don't know what they're called) in Roblox that revolve around horses.
I will add to this as I think of more. If you are viewing this as a reblogged post, it's worth checking the original to see if it has been updated.
Please feel free to request more information or suggest games or add your thoughts.

Title: Ropin, Ridin', and Revenge Author: dimplyowl Artist: escargotcargo Beta reader: hecatesthirdface Main Characters: Stede Bonnet, Edward Teach Other Characters: Lucius Spriggs, Black Pete, Calico Jack, Nigel Badminton, Chauncey Badminton, Anne Bonny, Mary Read Main Relationship(s): Stede Bonnet/Edward Teach Other Relationship(s): Lucius Spriggs/Black Pete Rating: Teen and Up Audiences Additional Tags: Western, Mystery, Nancy Drew Games - Freeform, Game 10: The Secret of Shadow Ranch, Horses, Treasure Hunt, Alternate Universe - Farm/Ranch, Alternate Universe, Established Relationship, Soulmates, Past Lives, POV Second Person Warnings: N/A Summary:
Amateur detectives Stede and Ed accept a suspicious invitation from the Badmintons to stay at their newly acquired ranch in Arizona. But what promises to be a relaxing vacation of horseback riding and hiking turns out to be anything but. The night before they arrive, a strange glowing horse appeared at the ranch, followed immediately by one of their hosts being bitten by a rattlesnake and taken to the hospital. And more suspicious events keep happening, heralded by the appearance of the horse.
Could it be possible that this is infamous outlaw Dirk Valentine's horse, come back as some kind of harbinger of bad luck? Or is the horse merely a distraction, meant to clear people from the ranch so that someone can search for the treasure that Dirk Valentine is rumored to have hidden somewhere for his girlfriend, Frances Humber, whose father owned the ranch in the 1880s, and just so happened to be the sheriff? An AU based on the game Nancy Drew: The Secret of Shadow Ranch.

Welcome, Baby Horses
I joined an cute browser click game called *Ropin' Ranch* at the beginning of January. I think the accuracy of the animals, and the education it shows is impressive 😊 Highly Recommend it!~
We're getting goats soon

Dale Evans, Queen of the West makes a return to this blog. What I love about the story The Hide Out, is not just its interesting plot, but the way Dale herself deploys the full range of her personality: professional cafe owner; stranger-welcoming neighbour; suspicious good citizen; amateur detective and, finally, gun-toting bringer of baddies to justice.
Initially curious, and later highly suspicious about, her new reclusive neighbours, Mr and Mrs Lester, Dale at first tries to help the unfriendly couple out when Mrs Lester drops an expensive compact containing diamonds and rubies, on a rare visit into town while purchasing supplies. Heading out to their ranch to return the goods, Dale’s dog, Bullet, is shot at by the trigger-happy Mr Lester who claims to be worried about prowlers. The Lesters get even more extreme when they shoot an innocent cowboy named Sam, who got too close to their property, and whom the local doctor is only just able to save. A private detective, Sloan, eventually appears on the scene looking for a couple who owe his clients money, called the Lambs. The picture he shows Dale look nothing like the Lesters, but when a curious Dale adds moustache and sunglasses to the picture of Mr and Mrs Lamb, she reveals them be the Lesters - wanted jewellery thieves!
Sloan heads off to the Lesters’ ranch, and Dale follows, anxious to warn the detective and to perhaps help him capture the thieves. Sure enough Dale hears a shot as soon as she has dismounted and crept up to the ranch house. However “detective” Sloan soon reveals himself to be Bert Barks, the vengeful third member of the gang who had served jail time and now wants his cut from the the Lambs. Barks threatens the terrified couple until Dale intervenes, but finds herself captured when the unscrupulous Barks uses Mrs Lamb as a human shield. In a completely believable moment of manipulative female persuasion, Dale points out to Johnny Lamb that he is now armed and doesn’t need to take orders from Barks. Lester agrees, thieves fall out and in the confusion of a firefight, Dale grabs Johnny’s gun and shoots Barks’ own weapon from his hand before lassoing his knees. All three crooks then surrender to Dale who ties them up and drives them back to town in the back of her truck: quite a victory for the ‘Ridin’, ropin’, shootin’ dame’!
The above pages are from Dale Evans, Queen of the West #5 (1954). The featured story is The Hide Out.

"We ranch together on the Crow res," he told the group. "So, I'm pretty involved down there. Road through their annual Crow Fair this year. Um, and I've broken bread with them every year... so... Great way to bond with all the Indians while they're drunk at 8:00 A.M. and you're ropin' together."A number of male voices laugh. [...]"And if you know a tough crowd, go through the Crow parade," he said. "Now, they’ll let you know when they like you or not, if Coors Light cans flying by your head… They respect that. You know, you go where the action is. They say, that guy's not that bad, ya know? Rode a horse through the parade. That's pretty cool. And I threw a beer can at his head, and he didn't even flinch!" Char-Koosta News said it was working to verify the authenticity of the audio and asked for comment from the Sheehy campaign. Last month, it was revealed Sheehy was on the verge of watching the business he started — and has touted as his main qualification for the job — collapse because the company can't pay its bills. Meanwhile, Sheehy's service as a Navy Seal in Iraq was questioned after the Washington Post found inconsistencies in his account. "Most notably, Sheehy, who now owns an aerial firefighting business, has told voters that he has a bullet in his arm from combat in Afghanistan," the Post reported. The reality, however, is that Sheehy told a National Park Service ranger in 2015 that he accidentally shot himself when his Colt .45 revolver fell. The gun then discharged in Montana’s Glacier National Park, ultimately shooting himself, court records showed.

I played howrse for quite a while back in middle school. Have you done some kind of ranking/tier list? I keep thinking of getting back into horse games
I probably should.
If I have time soon, I'll probably post a list of ALL the horse games I play or have played that are still available and rank them over on my sideblog @adrianthevampire.
I played Hworse forever ago as well and that's where I learned what "castrate" means because I accidentally gelded my favorite horse. 😔
The main games I spend my time on right now are Ranch of Rivershine and Horse Isle 3, but I wouldn't necessarily rank either of them too high on a list. I'm also playing Ropin' Ranch and Horse Reality, which are browser games. But again, not ones I'd rank too high but they're fine.

"Wild Child - Cow Girl"
I'm a wild child, livin' free and wild,
from east to west, I travel a mile.
I'm like the wind and just can't be tamed,
nothing can stop me, l'm off the range!
Ridin' from dawn until sunset's come,
the distant horizon is where I'm from.
Lookin' down from up on the mountains high,
my day's what I make it, the sky's the limit, I'll try!
I'm the gun- slingers daughter, who wears her crown,
on a stallion horse and i gallop from town to town.
I'm fierce and proud, an angel of the wild,
the cowboy's queen, the saloon slut child!
I'm a rebel and proud, I won't bow down low,
i'm aiming to reach my very highest goal.
being strong-willed and brave, with great determination,
I pursue my whorish ambitions, no matter what the competition.
I'm living the cowboy ranchers life, ridin' tough
with spurs and hat, I sure feel rough.
Wearin' my boots of leather, so reddish-brown,
rid-in' up and down, semi naked and into town!
Boots in the muck , no more being hurt,
i'm resilient, I can shake off the dirt...
I find strength in the cattle heading duty,
no faltering, no matter how hard?
On Rodeo days, I always feel up for it and so alive...
a sexily dressed cowgirl out to have some fun.
Ropin' horses, turning hombre heads, trying to survive,
Wearin' "come-on" smiles in drinking bar dives.
Confident and proud, i'm pushing the line,
above the competition I'll always shine.
The world is my oyster, and there's no disputing'
I shed ranch-hands randomly, i'm not one, for cow-towing.
