Hi I was wondering if you could perhaps explain what bondage is because I've heard a lot of people say it I've just been to scared to ask and I don't want to search it up cus I don't want that to be on my search history because I lent my phone to my friends allot and I don't want them seeing that it's embarrassing 😞 it's ok if it's uncomfortable and you don't want to respond (sorry it's long 😭) also can I be 🍒

Bondage is the consensual act of restraining someone through use of rope or similar - such as cable ties, chains, cuffs, etc.

There are many different types of bondage. The most simple definition is that bondage restricts someone’s movement.

Being tied up allows some people to relax and enjoy sexual pleasure without worrying about giving pleasure back to their partner at the same time. Others prefer to play-struggle against their restraints and say it builds up an exciting adrenaline rush.

A kinkster who enjoys tying up their partner is called a ‚rope Top‘ or ‚Rigger‘. The person being tied is called a ‚rope Bottom‘ or ‚rope Bunny’.

Bondage can be done in various ways ranging from practical or decorative to restrictive or predicament.

Is there only one type of Bondage?

No. There are various types of Bondage, for excample

Decorative bondage: In this form of bondage, the restrained partner is bound for a decorative purpose.

Self-bondage: It refers to the use of restraints on oneself for erotic pleasure.

Suspension bondage: Where a bound person is hung from one or more overhead suspension points.

Japanese bandage/Shibari/Kinbaku: Is a form of Japanese rope bondage. It focuses on friction and wraps instead of knots and uses the rope doubled over at the middle and it has a deep focus on the aesthetic of the ties.

What types of ropes are used for Bondage?

There are a variety of rope materials to choose from. Much like everything else in kink and BDSM, the answer depends on a number of variables.

Whilst natural fibre bondage ropes (such as hemp, linen, coconut, sisal, and jute) provide a great grip and easier handling than their synthetic counterparts, these ropes are not very durable and can be difficult to clean.

Synthetic bondage ropes (such as nylon, MFP, polypropylene and polyester) are more durable and easier to keep clean, but they can be slippery or stiff and don't provide as much natural friction.

Japanese bondage is best done with jute or hemp.

Western bondage is best done with hemp or nylon.

Decorative bondage is best done with MFP or nylon.

Don‘t use cotton ropes in bondage, because the knots can become too tight and difficult to loosen. Keep in mind to always have a pair of safety scissors near you for emergencies.

Important:

In any sort of bondage, there is risk. The rope Top/Rigger has to take care that no blood vessels or nerves are compressed or it can cause permanent damage. The rope Top/Rigger has to know how to tie without putting pressure on nerves or blood vessels and still keep checking in for tingling, pins and needles or numbness.

It has to be tied in such a way the rope can't tighten beyond where it got tied.

If sex is performed with someone who is tied up, chances are high that they are pulling against the rope - and the rope Top/Rigger should always be checking in on the knots.

For many people, rope does things to their mind. Many get claustrophobic and panicked and that’s not good for sex. Many people get spacy and floaty, which can reduce their ability to withdraw consent.
