It's been a while since I've updated this blog, but I felt now was a good time to get back into it. I restarted my decade challenge after I lost my last save file, and with all the new packs and updates we've gotten over the last few years, it gave my Sims a little more variety when it comes to dressing for each decade.
In my last play through, I used mods and CC, but my computer got a virus, so I decided to delete everything and play "vanilla." It makes finding pieces that fit the earlier decades a bit tough, but with lots of research and creativity, I managed to give my Sims a full wardrobe.
The first decade in the challenge is the 1890s. This was a pain in the ass, but I lucked out and found as many items as close to decade-appropriate as possible. Thank goodness for the Get Famous pack. Also, the fun thing about the wardrobe for this decade is that you can use it for the 1900s as well. That made dressing my Sims for the turn of the century so much easier.
( I have this family saved to the gallery if anyone wants to download them and get ideas or use them as townies in your playthrough. My gallery name is mrskvall and tags are #decadeschallenge and #1890s)
Everyday: Dress - Get Famous, Hat - Country Living, Gloves - Get To Work, Hair - Luxury Party, Lipstick - Base Game
Formal: Dress - Get Together, Gloves - Base Game, Shoes - Vampires, Hair - Luxury Party, Lipstick - Base Game
Athletic: Jacket - High School Years, Skirt - Snowy Escape, Hat - Paranormal, Socks - Base Game, Shoes - Base Game
Sleep: Dress - Eco Lifestyle, Hair - Base Game
Party: Jacket - City Living, Skirt - Discover University, Boots - Vampires, Hair - Luxury Party, Lipstick - Base Game
Swimwear: Top - Base Game, Shorts - Base Game, Cap - Base Game, Hair - Base Game
Hot Weather: Everything is the same as the athletic outfit, I just changed the color swatches so it looked slightly different.
Cold Weather: The dress is also from Get Famous. The hat and gloves are the same as the Everyday outfit, just in different color swatches.
Dressing the men in this decade was way easier than I thought it would be. Who knew?
Everyday: Top - Romantic Garden, Pants - Base Game, Shoes - Base Game, Hair - Get Together, Beard - Base Game
Formal: Suit - Vampires, Top Hat - Vampires, Monocle - Get Famous, Gloves - Base Game, Shoes - Base Game, Hair - Get Together, Beard - Base Game
Athletic: Shirt - Base Game, Pants - Base Game, Hat - Paranormal, Shoes - Base Game, Hair - Get Together, Beard - Base Game
Sleep: Top - Base Game, Pants - Base Game, Hair - Get Together, Beard - Base Game
Party: Jacket - Base Game, Pants - Base Game, Shoes - Base Game, Hair - Get Together, Beard - Base Game
Swimwear: Top - Base Game, Shorts - Base Game, Hair - Get Together, Beard - Base Game
Hot Weather: Top - Romantic Garden, Pants - Base Game, Hat - Paranormal, Shoes - Base Game, Hair - Get Together, Beard - Base Game
Cold Weather: Jacket - Vampires, Hat - Country Living, Gloves - Get To Work, Shoes - Base Game, Hair - Get Together, Beard - Base Game
Creating a wardrobe for kids, toddlers and infants for this decade was damn near impossible without CC.
Here's what I came up with for a male child. Some of these aren't 100% decade-appropriate, but with limited options, this is what you get.
Everyday: Full Body - Get Together, Shoes - Base Game, Hair - Journey to Batuu
Formal: Suit - Holiday, Shoes - Get To Work, Hair - Journey to Batuu
Athletic: Top - Base Game, Bottoms - Journey to Batuu, Socks - Base Game, Shoes - Base Game, Hair - Journey to Batuu
Sleep: Full Body - Parenthood, Socks - Base Game, Hair - Journey to Batuu
Party: Jacket - Get Together, Shorts - Base Game, Socks, Base Game, Shoes - Base Game, Hair - Journey to Batuu
Swimwear: Full Body - Seasons, Hair - Journey to Batuu
Hot Weather: Full Body - Get To Work, Socks - Base Game, Shoes - Base Game, Hair - Journey to Batuu
Cold Weather: Coat - Seasons, Pants - Base Game, Hat - Base Game, Gloves - Seasons, Shoes - Base Game, Hair - Journey to Batuu
This is what I came up with for female child Sims. Finding dresses with longer sleeves and hemlines was a challenge, so this may not be 100% decade-appropriate.
Everyday: Dress - Dream Home Decorator, Tights - Base Game, Shoes - Base Game, Hair - Outdoor Retreat
Formal: Dress - Base Game, Tights - Base Game, Shoes - Base Game, Hair - Outdoor Retreat
Athletic: Top - Base Game, Skirt - Horse Ranch, Socks - Base Game, Shoes - Base Game, Hair - Outdoor Retreat
Sleep: Nightgown - Vintage Glamour, Hair - Base Game
Party: Dress - Cats & Dogs, Tights - Base Game, Shoes - Base Game, Hair - Outdoor Retreat
Swimwear: Top - Base Game, Bottoms - Journey to Batuu
Hot Weather: Everything is the same as the Everyday outfit, but with different swatches.
Cold Weather: Coat - Seasons, Skirt - Horse Ranch, Gloves - Seasons, Tights - Base Game, Shoes - Base Game, Hair - Outdoor Retreat
Toddlers and Infants got the short end of the stick. I just gave them these outfits for every category.
Edit: I did go back and add to the toddler outfits to give her a little more variety, but not much.
Toddler: Full Body - Toddlers, Tights - Base Game, Shoes - Base Game, Hair - Toddlers
Infant: Full Body - Base Game, Hair - Base Game
Dressing everyone for this decade was more challenging than the challenge itself haha! I hope as we progress through the century, the outfits will get a little easier. I'm definitely going to have my work cut out for me.
Happy Simming!

Helen aged up to a teenager and became a total pain in the ass. She is currently in a loud phase, which means she’s always moody and plays her violin very loud. I gave Helen the Soulmate aspiration and the Music Lover and Cheerful traits. I’m hoping to find her a husband soon so I can get her married off and start the next generation.
William also aged up to a teenager. So far, he’s been pretty good, but I’m sure his phase is coming. I gave him the Fabulously Wealthy aspiration and the Self-Assured and Romantic traits. My next goal is to find him a wife to start the next generation.
James aged up to a child and became a picky eater. This is going to be fun. James has the Social Butterfly aspiration and the Active trait.

Since both John and Mary had the Family Oriented trait, I only tried for a baby when the whim came up. They were unsuccessful the first two times, but finally got pregnant on the third try. Mary gave birth to the couple’s first child, Helen. Isn’t she the cutest? I gave Helen the Clingy trait as a toddler.
I got another “Try for a Baby” whim, which resulted in the couple’s second child, and the heir, William. Helen wasn’t too fond of her baby brother at first meet. I gave William the Wild trait.
The couple had one more whim for “Try for a Baby” and Mary gave birth to the couple’s third child and second son, James. Both Helen and William were happy to meet their baby brother. I gave James the Charmer trait.

I gave John the Angling Ace aspiration, which means he did a LOT of fishing. I also gave him the Loves Outdoors,Active and Family Oriented traits. The first two really helped with his fishing and gardening. I gave Mary the Painter Extraordinaire aspiration, and the Foodie, Neat and Family Oriented traits. I started the household off with $20,000 and made money by selling Mary’s paintings and John’s crops. I also had John make and sell wood sculptures to build his handiness skill. Mary built her cooking skills by making food with the crops John harvested.

After reading several posts and watching countless YouTube videos, I finally decided to try my hand at the Sims 4 Decade Challenge. I was genuinely excited to try this challenge, as I had never tried one before. Thank you to Zombie Cleo for creating this challenge.
Here is my founder, John Abbott and his wife, Mary. Most of the content is in-game, with the exception of Mary’s skirt, which is CC that I downloaded from The Sims Resource. The house was downloaded from the gallery and created by irrelephant7. I modified it slightly as I went.
