Moon 287-Leaf-bare

After many moons of not having any kits, the nursery is full!  In addition to Whorlstorm’s (32) three kits, a ChaffinchClan queen leaves her litter with the Clan and Downgaze (68) and Sweet Marmalade (72) adopt them.  One of them, the sweet Hopkit (5), is water-blessed while the other two, who are both polite, are fire-blessed.  The she-kit is fittinginly named Emberkit (5) and the other is named Echokit (5), after Echomoor, Downgaze’s dead brother.  Additionally, Kestrelcreek (76) has announced that she is expecting kits!  Almondback (58) is excited.  And nervous.  He tries to set a good example for the younger cats in the Clan.   As a break from the business of Clan life, Kestrelcreek and Almondback have a nice little training session before Kestrelcreek moves to the nursery.  Almondback feels wild and free as he playfully pounces on Kestrelcreek.  He doesn’t know the last time he’s felt this light. However, all this good news is tempered by Whorlstorm’s death.  She couldn’t recover from giving birth and passed away, leaving her kits without their mother and Hatchswipe (32) the only survivor of Downgaze and Rootwing’s litter (look at that, more trauma in the Brightfalcon family).  Copperkit (3) misses cuddling with her mom and wants to learn more about what her mom was like as a kit.  Downgaze, who’s also in the nursery caring for his new kits, is glad to share what he remembers.  Hatchswipe has decided not to deal with her sister’s death and is instead sparring with Kestrelcreek.  She does make time to help care for her sister’s kits, though, and helps Boulderkit (3) pick burrs out of her fur.  Downgaze, having decided to help care for his orphaned grand-kits,  is feeling a little overwhelmed with six kits under his care and asks Sofanthiel (76) for some help.  She’s surprised, as she thought he had everything figured out, but helps out with the kits willingly.  It seems there may be a bit of a polycule brewing.  Downgaze is crushing on Alderflight (43) while his mate and Lakepelt (95) are crushing on each other.  Maybe he’ll have better luck than his great-grandparents? While Cavecatcher (45) is trying to be more mature, Greenrapid (43) is still acting like the young warrior she is.  She steps on Aries’ (53) foot and pretends not to notice.  Creekstar (141) just can’t seem to get along with her deputies.  First, she and Primcrest fell out, and now she’s fighting with Skipneedle (62).  Skipneedle feels like Creekstar needs to step down and/or take a break.  She’s been sick/grieving for moons and Skipneedle thinks a break would really help with her mental health.  But Creekstar is determined to serve her Clan until StarClan takes her.

New personalities: Copperkit (lonesome, quick to make peace, and interested in Clan history)

Meta: Echokit’s original name was Fawnkit, but he looks like Echomoor and was adopted by Downgaze (Echomoor’s brother).  Also, the parent listed for the litter is a male loner but the game says that a Chaffinchclan queen left her litter with ElementClan, so the loner is their bio dad. Additionally, I'm going to start noting when a cat gets a new personality or trait, so that's why Copperkit is mentioned.

Biggest changes I would make to wof arc "1"

Pt 2 - History + Evolution I guess (mainly evolution)

(once again haven't read arc 1 in years)

So 1st things first history is not the same as in the books. I don't really like how the scorching was set up, I first headcanoned it to have nothing really to do with humans or dragons to an extent. Rather it was a meteor. ┐⁠(⁠´⁠ー⁠｀⁠)⁠┌

I also really like the Icewing invasion theory, and I thought it would be fun if that had something to do with the scorching, or was a reaction to it or whatever.

Also I'm not averse to human empires, but they probably won't be a major plot line for the dragons, probably. Like maybe dragon-human war & then meteor happens and the dragons come out on top? Idk. (Will reblog post when I figure it out tho)

Sea - land

Land - Ice | Fire | Venom

Ice - Night

Venom - Mud | Dew (Beetle)

Fire - Sky | Sand

Dew - Rain | Leaf | Silk

Silk + night - root (hive)

(Yes I changed the name of hivewings & beetle wings, because the rest of the names have nature not animal vibes so beetle doesn't fit, and I wanted to use hive to refer to both Hivewings and Silkwings for symbolism. (To be explained later))

So to start we have seawings, or an early ancestor. They are amphibious, and are regularly on and off land. That's gonna change and so we get a more land based species. Also this seawing ancestor has electrical shock abilities, they will lose it, but the landwings won't.

Anyway onto land, we get 3 different evolutions. 1 species loses electricity, other 2 dragon species start using electricity & gas to start fires (Early ice + fire). Now hold on a minute why is ice here? Well if you didn't know you can make freezing fire:

Anyway Ice doesn't evolve ice breath right away, only after they split between pole and pyrrhia. The Icewings who stay on pyrrhia become nightwings. (Mainly because I wanted Icewings and Nightwings to be the 2 dragons that have feathers. Icewings because it's cold & Nightwings for relative silence sorta like owls.)

The other dragon species fire, just has normal electricity generated fire. That species eventually evolved into sandwings & skywings. Though it takes a bit longer then night v ice because sky & sand are separated for a while. Sand also evolves tail venom because???

The last dragon group are venom dragons, & they evolved... venom, or in the mudwings convergent evolution kinda case flammable liquid that needs to already be warm to ignite. The other, Dewwings, developed venom.

Ok so the Icewing invasion kicks in and Dewwings have to flee, the ones left behind become rainwings, the ones that leave become Silk & Leafwings. (The ecology of pantala is very different -dangerous- & I'm leaning into leafspeak heavily.) Leafwings settled on the interior of pantalla (because leafspeak) while the Silkwings settled on the exterior and the islands between the 2 continents. Anyways I've known I wanted rainwings to be related to Leafwings because rainwings use the sun to recharge, like leaves!

Finally we get Hive aka Rootwings. They aren't really a separate species from Silkwings but are fairly noticably different. I don't want to call them a subspecies that seems to different but I also don't want to call them a breed that has icky connotations for a sentient race. Anyway Rootwings are the result of not just clearsight but a bunch of Nightwing refugees as well. So clearsight is not starting a species nor is she having like 1,000,000 babies.

Alright so a few people might be thinking, all these dragon species seem so unrelated, how would hybrids exist?

Well, I know I already made a design for this guy. But with the new poll released on the official Warriors website for fans to decide on Rootpaw's warrior name (which you can find HERE) came the revelation that Rootpaw has blue eyes. Just slapping some blue eyes on the broken mackeral tabby design I had for him didn't look right, so I decided to totally revamp his design instead. So here is Rootpaw's new design. ^^

The only description we have of Rootpaw so far is that he's a yellow tom (now with blue eyes). That's the same description as his dad, so I decided to try and make his phyiscal build more like his mom's to add some variety. He's a shorthair like Violetshine, rather than having long fur like his dad, and he's on the lither side like her, though of course all of this is subject to change if more of Rootpaw's description is given in the text, this is just what I'm going with for now based on what we have to work with. Before, I designed him as a broken mackeral tabby like his dad. Now, however, with his canon blue eyes, I decided a lynx point tabby pattern would help make those blue eyes look a little less out of place. He's still got the same stripe markings as before, but now with different colors, similar to Tree's but with more of them, to fit the pointed tabby pattern. Overall, I'm really happy with how this turned out.  He doesn't look almost identical to his dad anymore, and while I liked the other design I came up with for him, I honestly love how the point pattern looks together with those blue eyes, and I love his new colors and how his pattern looks overall.

Moon 275-Leaf-bare

After serving the Clan as deputy since she was only 23 moons old, Primcrest (117) has decided to retire from the position and move to the elder’s den.  She and Creekstar (129) have been through a lot together, but Primcrest doesn’t like how her leader and former friend has changed.  She doesn’t feel like she is the best fit for deputy anymore.  Creekstar respects her decision and the Clan is excited to dote on their hard working former deputy.  But that means that Creekstar must choose a new deputy, for the first time in almost 100 moons.  None of the cats alive (other than her) have ever had a deputy that was not Primcrest.  It will be a hard adjustment.  Stonetuft (14) is too young to take on the role, so she’s left to choose between Dawnfreckle (58), Archdapple (50), and Skipneedle (50). Bluestripe (50), isn’t an option as she’s not proven yet. Creekstar lands on Skipneedle.  Despite her reservations about having a lot of dark-cursed cats in the Clan, it feels right to have two dark-cursed cats at ElementClan’s head.  And Skipneedle, despite being younger, is a bit more mature than Dawnfreckle.  It’s a proud and celebratory moment for the Clan.  However, the mood is dampened when, a quarter moon later, a gang of rogues attacks the camp.  Rubbleheart (71) and Tumbleswoop (64) are on guard duty together.  They’re the first casualties.  The rogues seemed to know what they were doing and headed straight for the Healer’s den.  Hopedawn (64) and Archdapple, who were both too ill to fight, were killed before Hollypaw (14) formed a wall of thorns around the other cats in the den.  But the rogues killed him too.  Stonetuft saw his brother fall and lunged into battle, but even the might of a star-blessed cat wasn’t enough to save him and he, too, died.  Rootwing (42), despite being a mediator, did his best to fight off the rogues.  But he couldn’t do enough and he was killed, alongside Lilacdrizzle (42).  The rogues went for Brightmouse (50) next, seeing that she was the most powerful cat in the Clan, but a grieving Bluestripe leaped in front of her sister and drained the life from her attackers, earning her the proven status.  By the end of the battle, ElementClan won, but not without also losing Hyacinthstripe (20) and Blizzardback (38).  Creekstar wonders what she is doing wrong.  The Clan has known so much loss under her.  How can she fix it?  Should she just give up, and retire like Primcrest did?  Why must her Clan suffer?  Skipneedle, Brightmouse, and Bluestripe are back down to being the terrible triad instead of the fearsome foursome.  They managed without Archdapple when she was captured by twolegs, but there was the hope that she would return.  Now, she’s gone for good.  Skipneedle helps Primcrest bury Archdapple, carrying her sister’s body even as her weak leg threatens to give out.  Kestrelcreek (64) mourns the loss of the rest of her siblings and hopes that Tumbleswoop and Hopedawn are safe and happy in StarClan, reunited with their mother and sisters.  Hatchswipe (20) and Whorlstorm (20) mourn their father and brother, staying up all night at their vigils.  Primcrest curls around Dawnfreckle, glad that at least one of her sons is still alive.  She tells a story about how she and Rubbleheart bonded at his vigil, laughing through her tears.  She’ll miss him, but is glad that he gets to be with Cypressbadger.

I am a light skinned mixed race Latina who will NEVER be assumed to be black, who will NEVER be called the N word or any other racial slurs towards black people. My experience does not matter in the context of the BLM movement.
