To Die as Lovers May - Chapter 3
Emmrich and Amina scramble to figure out what happened to her, and what to do next.
Under the cut and on ao3
Tumblr media
“What do you mean I’m ‘dead’?” She frowned, her nose wrinkling as a thought came to her. “Are you corpse-whispering me?!” Panic rippled through her, icy terror carving through her already disconcertingly cold veins.
“No! I’m–” He looked as unhinged as she felt.
“Oh Emmrich - what happened? What is happening?!” She held up her hands in front of her face, as the realization that something was horribly, horribly wrong crashed around her. “I’m–”
“-I don’t–”
“-dead?!” She wailed, one hand splaying over her heart, the other searching her own neck for the steady familiar rhythm of her pulse. When she found no such thing, her eyes widened so much that the whites were visible all the way around her faded irises, and she let out a mortified yelp.
She faced him with desperation written on her face, frightened tears gathering in the corners of her pleading eyes. “Emmrich, what happened to me? W-why am I l-like this?” She wrapped her arms around her named form, hugging herself and shivering violently. “W-why am I so co-cold?”
She hadn’t felt fear like this since the day the battled Elgar’nan: gripping, ruthless. It strained against the carefully cultivated bonds of rational thought that were the only thing keeping her from becoming hysterical - bonds that were rapidly fracturing.
All she had were questions upon questions and the vile, chilling confirmation that she lacked a pulse, and Fade take her - had she ever felt this hungry?
Emmrich studied her, compassionate sympathy replacing the anguished horror that dominated his features only moments earlier when she came to with him holding her, screaming like a man possessed.
His warm fingers wrapped around her upper arms and he rose to his feet, bringing her along with him.
“Before we turn our minds to finding the answers to your questions, let’s try to get you warmed up, darling.” He reached across her and nudged the tap with his fingers, finally stopping the flow of water into the overflowing bathtub. Taking a deep, steadying breath, he drew his hand through his hair and cast a brief, assessing glance around the flooded room and wordlessly decided it was a problem to deal with later before he turned his attention back to her. “Right. Are you able to walk, or would you like me to carry you? I think I can if you wish, but I expended a great amount of—“
He was exhausted, she realized then: his eyes were bloodshot and swollen and his face was pallid - almost green.
Amina wriggled her toes against the wet stone floor, marking their responsiveness and deemed it adequate. “I think I can walk - everything seems to be… to be w-working as it sh-should…”
Well. Except my heart…
He slipped his arm under hers, holding her by her waist in case she faltered. “Thank you, Manfred.” He accepted the fluffy sage green towel that the skeleton was holding out for him, his glittering eyes averted respectfully from Amina.
“Rook is… okay?”
Emmrich draped the towel over Amina’s shoulders and patted her down, drying her off as best he could. “We’re not sure, I’m afraid,” he admitted solemnly.
At this, Manfred hissed in a such a way that communicated his deep concern about this revelation.
“Fear not, Manfred. We’ll get to the bottom of this and set everything right in no time.” Emmrich’s voice was heavy with fatigue, but still carried that spark of optimistic surety she was eternally taken with.
He was saying those words aloud not only for Manfred’s benefit, but for his own… and hers.
“Now I want you to go to your room and stay there until I come and get you, do you understand?” He waited for Manfred’s confirmation before squeezing the lad’s bony shoulder and guiding Amina out of the bathroom, keeping her as close to him as he could.
Even though he was soaking wet too, and likely a bit chilly himself, Emmrich felt wonderfully warm against her: like a dark river stone left to sit in the summer sun for hours. Heat positively radiated off of him with such intensity that Amina wondered if he had a slight fever.
As they slowly made their way to their bedroom at the end of the hall, Amina’s mind raced: if she was medically dead as she appeared to be by all definitions, but she was simultaneously conscious and sentient - herself as far as she could tell - then she was… she was technically undead. Like Manfred. Like the Lich Lords…
But Manfred was a wisp possessing remains, and the liches were the sanctioned powers that ruled the Necropolis. She was something else. Something accidental. Something unnatural.
Emmrich closed the door behind them and sat her down in one of the emerald damask armchairs before the fireplace. Flames roared to life in the hearth with an absent-minded movement of his fingers, and he moved for the large trunk of spare blankets at the foot of their bed.
Amina caught him by the wrist, her fingernails clinking against gold.
“This is… this is lovely, Emmrich - thank you, but… would it be too much trouble if…? I think I would be more comfortable laying down. Will you hold me? Keep me warm?”
She winced as soon as the words left her mouth as the gravity of what she had just requested settled, crushing her under its brutal immensity: she wasn’t just asking her fiancé for a sweet cuddle to ward off the stinging nip of an autumnal breeze: she had just propositioned him to climb into bed with a corpse.
Appropriate contact between the living and the dead was strictly enforced in Nevarra: there were few things more shameful than it becoming public knowledge that one had dallied with a corpse: it was damning to one’s livelihood, social circles, and overall reputation if they were suspected or openly accused of necrophilia; and if such things could be proven, the penalties were incredibly steep: if one avoided execution, they would almost certainly be commuted to imprisonment for the remainder of their lives.
The relationship between the living and the dead - and by extension, the undead - was sacred to Nevarrans, and the moral and ethical matters of consent and power dynamics rendered any sort of romantic or sexual contact with bodily remains - regardless of their status - completely off the table.
Her throat tightened painfully at the realization. The comprehension that those laws now applied to them: that Emmrich couldn’t touch her, kiss her, or make love to her until this was sorted out… maybe never again…
“Never mind.” She said abruptly, speaking before Emmrich could find words as he blinked and his mouth hung open slightly because he had clearly had the same damning epiphany. “This… this is fine.” She tore her stinging eyes from his and rubbed her arms, staring into the fire, its orange flames blurring together as tears welled for the second time since she woke up in Emmrich’s arms, lungs full of water, feeling physically worse than she ever had in her life. “Can I have a blanket please?” She murmured to the fire. “Maybe like… three, actually?”
His footfalls filled her ears - so loud - as he came around the front of the chair instead of going to the blanket-trunk.
Unable to look at him, she stared at his bare feet now blocking the warm glow of the fire, a tear rolling down her cheek.
Then he was pulling her to her feet again, and scooping her up into his arms.
“What’re you–?”
He was carrying her towards the bed. “There have traditionally been special provisions extended to the liches of the Necropolis when it comes to matters of flesh and relations with the living,” he explained with a measured calmness that would have her doubting that he had been a grief-ravaged heap on the bathroom floor only minutes earlier had she not witnessed it herself. How did he do it? So effortlessly put other people ahead of himself? Manage his emotions so capably? “Because liches are undead but retain their naturally born souls housed inside their own remains, they are considered capable of decision-making in matters of bodily autonomy and consent. For all intents and purposes, they are held to the same standards in that arena as the living by precedence of our laws.”
He had mentioned this provision before - back when he was still pursuing lichdom and she had asked if they would still be able to continue their relationship.
“But I’m not a lich,” she pointed out, looking up into Emmrich’s face as he placed her gently on the bed and began pulling the sheets and blanket over her. “At least I don’t think I am. I’m... I’m… we don’t know what I am.”
“Well you’re most certainly you - I would be able to detect a difference in your metaphysical resonance if you were possessed by a spirit.” He hauled the covers all the way up to her chin and tucked the blanket around her.
Satisfied that she was properly tucked in, he left her side to flip open the trunk at the end of the bed and pulled out an assortment of carefully folded woven blankets, waving them out, and spreading them over her one at a time.
“I have seen no evidence that you are entirely dissimilar to a lich: your soul - your essence - is retained within the flesh and bone of your own deceased body. The only variation appears to be your physiology and the fact that lichdom is obtained through performing a deliberate rite, and this was obviously unintended.”
He went to his side of the bed and began undressing, wicking away sodden layers of clothing, leaving them in a wet pile on the floor - unusual for him - then methodically removing his many rings and bracelets, storing each with care in the glass topped, velvet lined box on his bedside table.
When he was finished and he was standing in the firelight, as naked as she was, he regarded her from the edge of the bed for a moment before saying, “So if it pleases you and puts your mind at ease: do I have your consent to join you in bed, dear?”
“Y-yes.” Amina breathed through the fresh tears in her eyes, feeling an odd stirring in her chest that was so very different from the beating of her heart. “Yes, of course.”
With a thin smile, he slid under the covers alongside her without hesitation, enveloping her instantly with his divine warmth as he wrapped himself around her slight form.
“There,” he murmured into her hair, cradling her head against his chest. His heartbeat roared in her ears, so steady and calm despite everything that had happened. “No laws broken.” He pulled back, lifting her chin with his fingers so she was looking at him over the surface of her pillow. He placed his lips against hers and she heard his heart rate increase; felt his body stiffen slightly at the unfamiliar sensation of frigid lips that were usually the same temperature as his. His thumb - so alive and warm - swept over her chin tenderly. “Besides, I won’t tell anyone if you won’t.”
He winked, then smiled for her. For her. He was trying so hard to comfort her. Bring her some measure of peace to help her through this nightmare.
“Emmrich, it's not a joke - this is dangerous. If it gets out that I’m…” she couldn’t say the word she meant to say. “Like this you know what will happen.”
In her many years with the Watch she had never encountered an undead being like herself. Emmrich had been with the Watch considerably longer and even he was at a loss for an explanation for her condition.
And what did the Mourn Watch do when they discovered an unexplained magical phenomenon?
They studied it.
It wouldn’t come from a place of personal malice: just one of detached cruelty often seen in academic circles where the ends justified the means when it came to committing morally dubious acts in the noble spirit of advancing knowledge.
Her freedom and autonomy would be stripped from her, and she’d end up housed in a windowless ‘living quarter’ in the bowels of the Necropolis to be observed, studied, prodded, and vivisected by her colleagues in an effort to glean what was responsible for the miracle of her undeath.
“Surely Myrna and Vorgoth wouldn’t–”
“I’m Unsanctioned Sentient Undead, Emmrich - no different than Johanna after her failed attempt at lichdom. Unintentional or not, I’m an affront to the natural order of life and death by the order’s definition. A sin against nature. My fate is extermination or becoming a lab rat if we can’t undo this…” her voice shook when she uttered the truth aloud and Emmrich’s deep hazel eyes softened further.
“Come now, darling. You mustn’t think like that.” He rested his forehead against hers, and she flinched away but he dragged her back to him, running his nose along the side of hers. Long fingers slipped into her damp hair and began combing through it gently, his breath baptizing her like a hot summer wind.
He seemed completely unphased by her current state.
She didn’t know why, but it made her eyes fog up yet again.
“You are not a ‘sin against nature’. You are a good person who has encountered an inconveniently timed spot of trouble in the line of duty, and we’re going to get you out of it.”
“What if we can’t? What if I’m stuck like this? Maker’s breath - what if I start decomposing?!”
The spiral of ‘what if’s’ and hypotheticals had started again, and tight panic gripped her throat once more.
“We’ll keep an eye on the condition of your body and take appropriate measures as needed in order to offset florid decay.”
He said it with the ease of a seasoned embalmer assessing a fresh corpse on his preparation table: strangely comforting given the circumstances. “However, it’s of utmost importance that you remember something as we work together to find a solution, dear.” His eyes wandered over her face, and he could practically hear the wheels turning in his mind despite his assurances: he was already mulling over theories; coming up with strategies.
“What do I need to remember, Emmrich?”
“That you are still you, darling Amina.” His gaze paused when he caught her eyes. “The fact that you’ve unwittingly transitioned into a different state of being does not change that.” He gathered her face in his hands and kissed her again, his lips lingering longer this time, and her fingers wrapped around his thin, bare wrist as she allowed herself to finally touch him - this living person - for the first time with her unliving hand: a cardinal offense by the rule of the Law, but one that brought her such comfort in its simple intimacy.
“I love you, dear - please know that my feelings towards you remain unchanged. I will do whatever it takes to make this right… everything in my power.” He peppered a few more gentle pecks over her cheeks, his lips leaving a burning trail wherever they touched. “Everything will be all right.”
She didn’t know how badly she needed to hear those words until Emmrich spoke them, and feeling fortified by them, she shifted closer to him, the shame of coercing the man she loved into deviant behaviour lessening somewhat: he was only keeping her warm - it wasn’t as though they were having sex. This was a benign kindness, and nothing more.
Warmth flooded her as her chest pressed against his, and precious heat flowed into her flesh, worrying at the cold, chipping it from her tense muscles and relaxing them.
“I’m sorry, I can’t imagine this is particularly comfortable for you,” she mumbled sheepishly into his shoulder.
“Never mind that.” His arms wrapped around her and held her tightly to him. “Is it helping?”
It was - the consistency of his warmth enveloping her was making her feel much better, and it seemed that once that heat infused deeply enough into her flesh and fat and muscles, she could retain it somewhat - for how long she couldn’t be sure, but as they maintained their embrace in the quiet, calmness of their bedroom, she found that she felt more at peace than she had all evening - even before she died.
Nodding, she gave herself permission to rest her hand on Emmrich’s waist, feeling his smooth, soft skin against hers.
“That’s marvelous, darling. I’m so relieved to hear it.” His tone was pleasant, bordering on cheerful. There was no lie: his heart was lightened by this improvement.
“You seem disarmingly at ease with all of this,” she remarked. “Not… not that I’m complaining, but I was surprised enough when you agreed to share the bed with me. But this?” She flexed her arms around him, squeezing him tighter. “And the kisses? Aren’t you even slightly put off by the fact that I’m, uh - technically dead?”
“Darling,” he admonished. “Firstly, you aren’t ‘technically dead’ - you are undead. Secondly, a disciple of higher learning quickly discovers that the most important virtue one can possess when they wish to delve into the mysteries of the world is keeping an open mind. It is - and will be - an adjustment, I grant you, but one doesn’t spend as many years preparing for lichdom as I did without having to periodically revisit their definition of ‘strange’.”
The corners of her mouth lifted for the first time in a wan, somewhat misty smile.
He had worked so hard for lichdom only to turn it down forever at the last moment when Manfred’s life hung in the balance - literally on the table. She had never wanted lichdom for him in the first place, but that didn’t mean she couldn’t appreciate the staggering amount of study and work that had gone into his preparations for it. Once considered, it made perfect sense that the prospect of stripping nude and embracing his undead fianceé in bed was not a daunting one to a man as wonderfully bizarre as Emmrich Volkarin.
“I’m lucky then, that I’m your sort of ‘strange’.”
“You always have been.” He smiled down at her, stroking her hair gently, every touch delivered with the singular, deliberate aim of calming and comforting: it was working. “I do think we should still see Myrna and Vorgoth come morning. I have reason to suspect this… transformation had something to do with the creature we encountered today.”
She opened her mouth to remind him that in case he’d already forgotten, she was undead, and therefore bringing her around other Watchers was likely a poor decision, but he continued speaking.
“We needn’t tell them of your condition, don’t worry. But it’s our duty to alert them to the existence of such a being. Though I’ve never heard of anything comparable to it existing before today, we cannot rule out the possibility that there are more of them in the deepest reaches of the Necropolis, and we know firsthand how dangerous they can be - particularly if my suspicions are correct and it has infected you with some sort of contagion or other vile thing: there could be an epidemic if more appear and care is not taken.”
Amina rolled her face into the pillow, hiding it as she groaned. “Fine.” She agreed begrudgingly. “But we don’t mention anything about me: I didn’t get bitten. If they ask, we overwhelmed it before it could properly attack us.”
“I’m still not keen on your insistence that we hide this from our superiors, but I’ll go along with it for the time being.”
“Thank you.”
“How are you feeling, dearest?”
Humming quietly, she lost herself in the placating rhythm of his hand stroking her hair over her back. “I’m not sure,” she admitted.
“Well we’ve clearly established that your heart is not beating, therefore blood is not circulating through your veins and arteries, robbing you of the ability to regulate your body temperature. We’ll keep that in mind in the morning when selecting your clothing in the morning. And with your permission of course I would like to examine you properly tomorrow. Are you experiencing any other notable symptoms?”
“Remember when I alluded to the fact that I’d prefer to avoid a fate where I become the subject of a necromancer’s crowning dissertation?”
“Seeing as my dissertation was completed roughly around the time you were learning to walk, you have little to fear from me in that regard, my dear.”
He was trying to help. Trying to learn whatever he could that would set him on the right path to cracking this. Guilt and shame filled her at her own obtuseness: who better to solve a puzzle like this than Emmrich? He literally lived for this sort of bizarre mystery.
“I’m ravenous,” she admitted. “I don’t understand why - I only missed dinner. But it’s not just typical I-haven’t-eaten-in-a-few-hours-I-could-do-with-a-snack hunger: it’s that deep, hollow sort that nags at your brain and hurts your stomach.”
Emmrich looked hurt at her words. “Why didn’t you say so, darling? Let me fetch you something–” he made to get out of bed but Amina hauled him back over the sheets with ease, trapping his lithe form against her.
“No - please stay. I’ll be fine to wait until breakfast, and I just want to lay here with you. I’m more tired than hungry anyway.”
“Very well, but if you change your mind in the night, you mustn’t hesitate to wake me, darling: I think the fact that you have an appetite at all is a very good sign indicating that at least some of your mortal physiology has remained intact and maintains function.” He shuffled slightly, the luxurious sheets slipping over his legs as he wrapped them around hers. “What else?”
“I feel… overstimulated. My hearing is all keyed up and everything sounds so much louder than it usually does: I can hear your heart beating from here as clearly as if my ear was pressed against your chest.”
“Fascinating…”
“Please tell me you're not going to refer to every aspect of my suffering as ‘fascinating’ for the duration of this nightmare.”
“Sorry dear.” His voice was sheepish and he pressed a kiss to the side of her neck.
“Aside from that, I’m utterly exhausted - everything hurts, and I feel as though I haven’t slept in days.”
“Then let’s rest for the night, darling. Close your eyes and hold tight to me - I promise I won’t leave your side.”
He waved a hand and the flames of the fire receded but did not go out completely, casting the room in an insubstantial but warm glow. She thought she heard him gasp at something, but he evidently didn’t feel the need to elaborate, instead adjusting himself so he was curled around her, his head resting atop her silent heart.
Doing as she was told, Amina closed her eyes and carded her fingers through Emmrich’s soft hair. Silence - or as close to it as was possible - filled the dim room and Amina wondered if Emmrich’s own exhaustion had at last won out.
“Darling?”
His voice was tentative and vulnerable - drained by the immense emotional weight of the evening.
“Yes, love?”
“I know that you’re frightened and upset by this unexpected complication, but…” His voice was a whisper so soft and low that she doubted she would hear it under normal circumstances. “When I saw you at the bottom of the bath under all of that water… still and silent and clearly gone… I–” his voice hitched and he took a moment before going on. “I’ve never felt more helpless in my entire life, and even though it’s not ideal, I find myself utterly relieved that you’re here in my arms right now… in our bed. In our home. I can’t help but feel selfish because of it, and yet…” His tears carved hot tracks over the curve of her breasts as he spoke into the dark. “I’m so glad that you came back, Amina - so glad that tonight was not the end…”
A soft sob slipped from him, and he sniffled, pressing his nose against her chest, fingertips digging into her skin as if she might be torn from him at any moment.
Shushing him gently, she continued to soothingly work her fingernails over his scalp. “I understand, Emmrich. Finding me like that must have been awful.” She winced at the desperate and audible groan of hunger from her belly - what awkward timing. “Just try to rest now, all right? We can talk more in the morning. I promise I won’t leave your side either. I’m not going anywhere.”
Emmrich let out a trembling sigh and removed his hand from her for long enough to wipe the tears from his face before replacing it. “Right you are, dearest.” He concurred, his voice still uneven. “We have much to do, come the dawn.”
“I love you, Emmrich… thank you for loving me.”
“I love you too, darling – I suspect there is nothing in the world that could make me cease loving you.”
She smiled again at that, then let her head sink into the pillow, drifting off to the sound of the steady beat of Emmrich’s strong, healthy heart filling her ears, lulling her into a sort of trance before her mind went dark and still, and thoughts were no more.

Humans Are Extinct (Yandere!TWST x Reader) Monster AU pt 17

(Naga Jamil has a tendency to coil up during classes, usually sitting by windows and anywhere sunny so he can keep his reptile half warm. He is technically warm-blooded, but it does take a large amount of food and magical ability to keep the snake half warm, so he will take the sunlight's assistance whenever available. During the winter, Jamil can often be found curled up in Scarabia in the sun-warmed sands or coiled around heaters for the warmth during classes.)

Cheka smiled and happily ate the plentiful food in front of him, sitting side by side with Grim as they feasted. You decided to have an early lunch seeing as you were going to be busy around actual lunch time. It made you happy to see Grim wasn't being aggressive towards Cheka anymore and Ortho was happy to keep the cub entertained.
Naturally, you made a simple sandwich that Silver could easily replicate as the Cervitaur was keen to help you in the kitchen especially due to your leg. Despite how you wanted to walk around and even make something complicated like fried chicken- that new deep fryer Idia made was calling to you- Malleus was keen to keep you off of your leg. It was likely a result of the diligent guarding of the dragon that your leg began to stop hurting, feeling much better than it had since you were stabbed.
All you really needed to do was wait until the actual noon hour rolled around for your fated meeting of the representatives, but you were free until then. As you watched your two young charges eat and play together, a faint cool breeze on the back of your neck had you turning to look at your company. Malleus stood with you, his tail holding you up a little above where you would stand and taking the majority of the weight off your leg. He had insisted on giving Silver a break and seemed content to just hold you.
Rook and Vil were going to be stopping by soon, wanting to choose the outfit you would wear to this deciding of fates. They were actually surprised to hear that the representatives could potentially take you away and were determined to do everything they could to stop that outcome. It seemed like everyone you spoke to about the upcoming event was of a similar mind, even Riddle swore to appear before the group to plead your case.
"You seem so happy with your cubs, (Y/n)."
"Well, Cheka isn't mine to keep, but he is a sweet boy. And of course I'm happy to see him and Grim getting along."
"I am glad. I feel much of the same when I am among my Hoard."
A slight grimace pulled at the Dragon's smile and you frowned in response. Something was clearly bothering him.
"Tsuno?"
"I don't wish to lose any member of my Hoard, yourself included. Twice I have come close to facing that reality, and twice I have been late to defend you. The Ancient One has given me excellent council that I hope to heed, and with Lilia's guidance, I have decided to bestow a blessing upon you."
"What kind of blessing?"
Malleus held up a clawed hand, shadows seeming to be drawn to the space above it and almost seemed to condense into a physical object suspended in space. The item looked like one of the magestones that the other sudents carried around on their weapons, only somewhat different. It was a bright green crystal ball that sat encased in black metal akin to briar thorns, the top of the bauble making a loop that could easily connect to the upgraded tracking collar you now wore.
"This," Malleus started, letting you observe the interesting summoned item, "is something I hold quite dear to me. It is a twin to the magestone I now use. It belonged to my mother, both stones passed into Lilia's care along with my egg before she... It means a lot to Briar Valley. It means a lot to me. Only a Dragon of my lineage can wield the unruly wild magic it contains. I have considered and agonized over ways to keep you safe, now I can do exactly that. So long as you carry it with you, I am only a breath away. Speak my name, my full name, and it will bring me to your aid."
"Tsuno, I... I don't know if I can accept this. If it means so much to you, I would be consumed with guilt should anything happen to it."
"Just as I would be consumed with guilt if anything happened to you. Indulge me, (Y/n), and wear it proudly. You are always under threat and I can't always be there. Let me be your protector and call upon me when you need me. Call me to your side even when your life isn't at risk, I adore our conversations. Allow me protect what matters to me."
This was clearly something vitally important to Malleus, so you didn't fight the Dragon further on the matter. He moved and maneuvered his tail to attach the lovely bauble to your collar, smiling as it gleamed proudly from its spot against your collarbone. It almost felt weightless on your warm skin and you vaguely wondered if it was a result of being a Magestone.
Malleus couldn't help but admire the way it adorned your soft body, drawing his affectionate gaze over your figure. He was being truthful when he said you could call out to him with it, but that was not the only role the gleaming stone played. It was the smaller of a pair of Magestones and the larger partner was always with Malleus at all times. He could now keep his eyes on you even from a distance, the pair of Magestones working as a viewing glass. On top of the added benefit of checking in on you, Malleus could now slowly begin feeding his own magic into it and you.
He took to heart the wise words of his trusted friend and advisor, Lilia, and decided to try and begin the process of extending your life. It would take time and patience on his part, but once it was ready and charged enough with his magic, your life would last as long as his own. Naturally, he wanted your approval before taking such a drastic measure, but he did not wish to live without his most precious treasure. Even Lilia would one day die before the great Dragon, he did not wish the same fate for you.
He recognized that you may see it as too much or may be upset that he acted in selfishness, but Malleus already lost so much to this world. His mother. His father. The Dragon refused to lose you too. Besides, he was certain you would carry the next generation of Draconia and he wanted you to be there to see your young grow and mature. It took almost 30 years for a Fae infant to even begin walking, let alone the slow aging Dragon Fae. If you were to carry his young, Lilia's young, and possibly even Silver or Sebek's young, you would need a long life to support those children with your ever loving and compassionate heart. He refused to let his hatchlings grow up without a mother.
"It looks stunning on you, (Y/n)."
"Are you sure about this, Tsuno? I'm still worried something may happen-"
"Enough. If I was not sure, I would not have gifted it to you. You have already given me so much, allow this Dragon to guard the treasures he values."
"Alright. It isn't like I'm going to be removing this collar anytime soon... Not unless the representatives decide to take me away."
Malleus frowned deeply at this, a sudden low rumble of lightning sounding overhead. You were surprised to hear the lightning as you had not seen a cloud in the sky earlier. It was while you glanced towards a window that Malleus gently used his hand to draw your gaze back to him.
"They will not take you. They will have to fight me for even thinking they could take you away."
"Malleus?"
"Tsuno. I am quite partial to the name you have gifted me regardless of how flippant the act may have been in the moment, I would rather you use it."
"Tsuno," you glanced from his serious expression to the rolling storm that appeared outside, "are you the one who has been summoning the lightning?"
"Yes. It is a bad habit of mine. My emotions easily impact the weather and even directly control it at times. Lightning tends to come about with my anger. Snow often comes forth with my sorrow. My joy usually brings clear skies. I must guard my emotions carefully and control them with a steady mind."
"So the lightning that second night I spent here... The storm that woke me..."
"It was a creation of my emotion. Poachers sought to take you, I refused to let them."
It always surprised you to learn the sheer strength Malleus himself carried as he seemed so gentle with you and Grim. Apparently that gentle disposition did not extend to others outside of his Hoard and it made you vaguely worry about those around you. If Malleus was that powerful, how could anyone stop him if he truly snapped one day? Perhaps that is why Lilia emphasized the calming impact the Hoard had on the Dragon. You were beginning to realize the weight of the duty that had been lain upon your shoulders.
But where did that put Grim? As far as you were concerned Grim was your boy, your child, your cub. If you were part of Malleus' Hoard, did that include Grim as well? Lilia said only Hoard members could enter a nest built by Malleus, and Grim slept in the nest with you and the rest of the Hoard.
"Tsuno, is Grim a member of your Hoard?"
"As your cub, yes. Any you choose to take under your care shall be accepted into my Hoard. I have been more than serious about your standing among the Hoard and how much your happiness matters to me. Grim makes you happy and he has managed to win over the others as well."
"Will you protect him like you protect me?"
"With all the power I have available to me."
~~~~~~~~
You were a little frustrated at the ensemble Vil and Rook insisted on for your meeting with the representatives, feeling like some kind of dress-up doll. Both men had insisted that they be allowed to coordinate your outfit and you gave up trying to fight them on their choices. They took choosing your outfit rather seriously and once they finally agreed on one, you had to let them dress you up in it.
Apparently they weren't the only ones who were keen to keep you in Night Raven. Almost all of the Housewardens and their Vice-Housewardens showed up at your dorm to try and render aid, all except Leona who was oddly absent. Despite how you wanted to ease their concerns and tell them about Papa Hades' willingness to keep the representatives from taking you, you didn't want to disrupt the plan by loudly telling everyone about it. If you were going to be safe in Night Raven College, you had to at least make an attempt to expose the representative that tried to have you killed.
Now it felt almost like you were on a death march, Silver carrying you, Cheka, and Grim to where you were supposed to meet the representatives. You were flanked on either side by Idia, Ortho, and Sebek. Not only did your guarding entourage follow you, but Papa Hades and Malleus walked silently along as well, using a complex mix of invisibility spells and concealment spells to hide their presence. When you asked why they were hiding themselves, Papa Hades said the representative was more likely to act out against you if they didn't know of their presence.
It made sense, so you simply nodded along and let the Shinigami and Dragon do as they wished.
Crowley was holding the meeting in the Hall of Mirrors and your anxiety slowly raised as the Cervitaur walked you to what would be a gathering to decide your fate. If you wanted to have any hope of returning to your home, you would have to stay at Night Raven College. You fell into this monstrous world here, you could escape this world of madness here. All you had to do was root yourself in place and refuse to let the others take you away. Easier said than done.
The doors opened ahead of you as Silver walked you into the room, feeling everyone's eyes landing on you the second you crossed the threshold. It was more than a little unnerving to be the center of such intense attention. That is why you were glad Cheka and Grim were both with you during this. The cub and kit only purred reassuringly as you held onto them much in the way a child would hold to stuffed animals.
"There you are, (Y/n)," Crowley greeted you with a smile despite the fact he knew you were arriving, it was obviously more for the representatives to put a name to their wayward ideas of you being Human, "glad you could join us for this."
"I don't have much of a choice when people demand my time and threaten my peace to satisfy their own curiosity."
Crowley was silent for a moment, privy to the plan that had been put in place but somewhat thrown off by your more than clipped words. He was used to your proclivity to be a bit more goading around him- he did collar you first, after all- but he also knew you were more of a tentatively gentle disposition in most cases. It was odd to him to have you be less than understanding of the situation.
"... Anyway, these are the representatives of Twisted Wonderland. Several have come from the various Kingdoms and Queendoms to confirm you are being treated fairly at Night Raven College. Some are also here to plead their case for why you should be removed from Night Raven College."
You nodded, taking a quick look across the several representatives seated around the large table. There were various types of creatures present and one in particular stood out to you. A man with an orange and golden mane sat proudly at a spot between where you were and the end of the table, his neck, arms, and body adorned with gemstones and golden chains. The resemblance was uncanny.
"Cheka," the little cub looked up at you curiously, "is that Dada?"
He followed your pointing finger to the Lion man who looked caught off guard by you singling him out before his eyes landed on the cub in your arms. There was little to describe how surprised he looked as several representatives began murmuring and talking about the Nemean Lion you held so securely. Cheka was not nearly as thrown off by all of this as the representatives were, a wide and excited smile taking over his features as he began to wiggle in your grasp. His little paws reached out to the older Lion and you were happy to facilitate letting him return to his father.
Though it took more energy and strength than you cared to admit to release the cub, you still placed the young boy on the table and let him scamper away. A vague sadness pulled at your heart as Cheka scrambled past several others to reach his father's arms, purring loudly and cuddling into the surprised man's embrace. Clearly, the lion had not expected such a greeting but took it in stride and held the cub all the same.
"You know," you started, tone somewhat chastising, "Leona may be your brother but he is not- and never will be- a good option for a babysitter. I'm fairly sure you knew that going into this. But, I'm always game to take little Cheka on field trips if you ever need a break from him. He's a sweetheart."
The Lion man seemed somewhat dubious about your offer even as the cub cuddled into his chest and purred at him. If anything, not even Crowley seemed at ease despite how non-threatening the cub actually was. It was this unease that gave a representative- a toad looking man with bugged eyes- the courage to speak.
"No Nemean Lion should ever be allowed near a Human, not even cubs! They slaughtered Humans for food and we all know that Sunset Savana was instrumental in driving the species to extinction-"
"And we all know it happened in the past, long before this current generation of Lions. Are you truly so bogged down by history that you would hold contempt for those who are not directly responsible for the current issue at hand? Or is it simply your own racism against them that makes you speak so confidently about a topic you nor your ancestors were privy to? In fact, I've learned that other species had shown violence in the past to Humans- from Unicorns, to Naga, to Kelpies, even certain Fae- and not only that but disease and greedily hoarding my species as pets played similar roles in the death of Humanity. Can you stay with the utmost confidence that every Human was killed by a Nemean Lion?"
The toad man opened and closed his mouth, unable to respond to your direct accusation with any grace or ability to save face. In some ways, you wondered if you were being too aggressive in your responses, but Papa Hades made your role in this dance very clear. Any representative who pushed their agendas against you should be met with equal or greater pushback from you. Besides, you have been witness to the poor treatment Ruggie and Leona received simply for being born the species they were.
"They- well, they-!"
"Yes or no. Can you say every Human was killed by a Neman Lion?"
"... No."
"My point exactly. Unless you have something truly useful to add to the conversation, maybe it isn't your place to speak at all on the matter."
The man seemed to shrink back into his seet under your gaze, wanting to be anywhere but that room as your ire was clear. His silence was enough reason for you to move on from the conversation, turning to Crowley expectantly to get this 'conference' under way.
"Yes, well, let us continue with assessing her general well-being-"
~•§•~
"-which is why I petition the Human to be put into my care."
It had been at least three hours of listening to the various representatives speak and make their opinions known. Around the midway mark is when you realized it wasn't just representatives, but scientists who were clearly eager to try and test you for more information. You were mostly tolerant of the pressing and curious natures of the scientists, but your tolerance was running low.
Cheka had moved between you and his Dada several times in an effort to keep himself entertained, currently laying in your arms and batting at Silver's uniform. Despite the exciteable cub, no one was willing to reprimand him as it was more than clear you were willing to defend him from them. Even with his interruptions- which were quite welcome given the monotony of the conversations- many had been able to make their opinions and views known without too much infighting.
Few dared to speak openly against one another, especially after you promptly shut down that first toad-man in defense of the Sunset Savana King- Falena Kingscholar- and you were bored to tears. There was only a handful of representatives who had not spoken yet- the representative of Briar Valley being the most prominent- but even those who were more long-winded were losing patience with the man who now spoke.
He was a Rat looking monster that somewhat reminded you of a Gnoll given his twisted pelt stretched over a humanoid skeleton. Since he first started speaking you got a bad feeling from him and the way he seemed to sneer most of his words. You were less than amused with this creature than you figured to be possible and you were bored enough to have a bit of sport at the expense of the clearly proud Rat.
Not only had he been ranting about how 'trustworthy' he was, but he spouted off repeated flashoods. You understood that many in Twisted Wonderland didn't understand Humans and debated what species Humans were, but the Rat spoke down to you like he was doing a favor in 'educating' you with falsehoods and lies. Something you could call intuition told you that this beast was the one who hired the Wolves.
"Tell me again what species you think humans come from?"
"Pigs. Obviously."
"Yeah, well, you're wrong."
"Not possible! I-"
"We're an evolved species of great ape. Not monkey either, we don't have prehensile tails. Ape."
The Rat seemed to try and save face, glancing around at the table before back to you.
"Well, surely a blood sample could prove-"
"Furthermore, this idea of yours that claims Humans frequently consumed their young is just reprehensible. We killed for our young. True, some abandoned them or gave them to others to raise, but to dare suggest such a thing as all Humans eating their children? Absolutely vile."
He choked and tried to speak over you, huffing out the words in indignation. It was clear to you that your pushing and less than approachable behavior was unsettling the supposed 'Human expert' as you called out his falsehoods in front of the other representatives and scientists. Many of the scientists taking notes as you spoke.
"They were theories-"
"And they are wrong. That is not the issue I have right now. My issue is the fact you are trying to argue these things with me- an actual Human- who actually knows about, you guessed it, Humans. A Human who has lived among other Humans for the majority of my life. A literal world of nothing but Humans as the primary sentient species. Do I need to continue?"
The Rat man was glaring at you now and his lip curled upwards to bare his teeth at you. Despite his attempt to look intimidating, you refused to back down or let the Rat-man talk over you. If anything, he looked pathetic instead of frightening. He didn't even seem to notice you reaching up to cover Cheka's ears as he huffed at you.
"You could try to be polite-"
"Polite? When you came in here- the place I call home- and decided you were the expert on my species. Then proceeded to say the most inane bullshit fucking excuse of a theory and dare say I need to be polite when I disagree with your flat nonsense?"
"I have a degree-"
"And I am the 'creature' you claim to study. Not comparable in the slightest. If you're as educated as you claim, you would know that."
The silence that followed was thick and hung oppressively in the air, but you still sat tall and stared the man down. Cheka- whose ears were were covered by your hands- tilted his head curiously at you as he patted at your hands to move so he could hear. You weren't about to let the cub hear your angry cursing or taunting words, keeping your hands in place on his kitten soft rounded Lion ears.
The Rat was not faring well against your words, clearly becoming angry due to how his wormed tail writhed and his fur fluffed. There was a kind of tension in his limbs that made you wonder if he were really about to leap at you. He certainly seemed angry enough to try such a brazen act.
"What's wrong, Mr. 'Overly-Educated'? Lion got your tongue?"
"If only they killed you."
"Excuse you?"
"If only those idiotic hounds killed you. I pay them everything they demand to get rid of you and they had to muck it up! Wasted money and resources-!"
His voice caught in his throat as he seemed to realize the situation he just put himself in. Some of the representatives were shocked and some just seemed angry. All of them were staring at the Rat. When it seemed like he was about to back track on his words, you decided to be more than a little spiteful and threw in a light jab just to add salt to the wound.
"Go on. You were so confident before, did you run out of all that bought power and bullshit, or did you just realize how out of your depth you truly are?"
Only a singular eye-twitch told you what was coming as he threw himself across the table, his main goal being to maim and injure you however possible. He didn't even get close enough for Silver to respond before he was flying back the direction he came. Materializing out of the air was a familiar grayish-blue hand of a more than intimidating entity standing at your back. Even the Rat, who was trying to pull himself to his feet, flinched upon seeing the smoldering fury of the elder Shinigami behind you.
"Want to try that again, or have you realized the extent to which you've fucked up?"
"I'll kill you-!"
It was then another sound met your ears, one that rumbled and grew in intensity as the air around you began to spark with green lightning. Almost all representatives were unsettled by the show of power as Malleus materialized next to Silver, the rage in his eyes clear. Outside the deep sound of rolling thunder boomed across the island as his rage became clear.
The only one who didn't seem bothered by Malleus' appearance was the rather elegant woman that represented Briar Valley. In fact, she looked thoroughly amused by the rage of the younger Dragon. She had first drawn your eye when you had begun to mentally tire of the conversation a few hours ago, looking much like an effeminate Malleus. The only notable difference this woman had to Malleus was her apparent chest and thinner set face. Otherwise the two looked like they could be related.
Malleus told you earlier that day that his mother and father were no longer among the living. This meant that the woman who now smiled at the Dragon was either his grandmother or great grandmother. She certainly didn't look to be that old, but then again, Lilia didn't look old either. She sat alone at the table with no clear guards, but you figured a Dragon didn't need guards.
"Malleus, calm yourself, little hatchling."
"I refuse. He dare threaten my Hoard and even dare to claim violence towards my Hoard. He pays for his transgression with his life."
"That is fair, but also not your place to deliver punishment on this island. We are not in Briar Valley anymore."
"That makes his crime no less serious."
Talking to the woman clearly began to calm Malleus, and the Rat took this lapse of rage as an invitation. Blinded by rage at your earlier taunts, the Rat decided to try and leap at you again. The one who blocked him this time was an unexpected presence you hadn't even heard enter.
Leona stood holding the Rat by the neck, clearly amused in squeezing the fragile windpipe of the squirming creature.
"There you are, Mousey. Figured you had that brat with you, certainly had me running around campus looking for you two. Funny, I didn't think Rats had that much interest in Mice."
"Hi, Leona."
"That's all you're gonna say?"
"... You're an awful babysitter and you weren't invited to this meeting."
"Don't care and you're welcome, Mousey."
The Lion grinned as he threw the Rat back, clearly playing with the rodent man and not overly threatened by him. This sudden interjection was enough to make the other representatives answer the call to action as several rushed forward to detain the Rat that admitted to hiring poachers. It was while this uproar was taking place that several other Housewardens made their presence known, all of them entering the room and taking up posts around you in what was akin to body-blocking the representatives.
"You know," you loudly started, bringing a silent order to the chaos around you as all eyes turned back to you, "for all the talk of if I am safe here, not one person has addressed the full issue at large; am I safe anywhere in Twisted Wonderland? A representative- someone who is standing on guard for their country- had the gall to hire poachers to kill me and attacked me while surrounded by their peers. A room of people who claim to have my best interests in mind were incapable of acting to protect or aid me. Can any of you say you are doing a good job at keeping my safety in mind, or is this all just posturing? So far, the only ones who have truly acted in my best interests are those right here at Night Raven College and their associates. Judging from all of the complaints and issues brought up, it all pales in the light of reality that none of you could come to my defense when I needed it. Where I'm sitting, it seems like I'm already safest right here. Sure, poachers are here, but clearly they are everywhere. I don't think this meeting needs to continue, especially in light of the circumstances."
~•§•~
Despite the events, it still took time to wrap up the meeting and for the representatives to agree with you. Some scientists were still dubious and some wanted just a moment more to study you. It took your agreement to several research sessions in the future, visiting various Kingdoms and Queendoms personally, and Crowley's promise to give consistent wellness updates to get them to concede to your wishes.
Only a handful of representatives were interested in staying past the meeting, and it was primarily those who already had ties to the students that guarded you. Some scientists hovered around and- with your permission as well as Malleus' permission- took photos of you for reference and further study. None seemed willing to push you too much given the Shinigami and Dragon combo that hovered over your shoulder.
"Thank you, (Y/n), for keeping Cheka safe. He is an adventurous little cub, but he is still my son and I value your willingness to protect him."
"Of course, Falena! And I was serious about keeping an eye on him if you ever need a break. My door is always open to that rascal."
"At least I know better than to leave him with Leona again."
The Lion in question was scowling as Cheka ran circles around him, tugging at his arms and tail. You just smiled in response to the sight before turning back to Falena. He wasn't nearly as outwardly hostile as Leona had been and he was keenly interested in your recounting of the Wolves incident.
"Eh, don't write off Leona too soon. The way I hear it, he spent all day trying to track Cheka down. Despite how grumpy that Lion is- and the fact he will never admit to it- he has a good heart. He cares more than he will ever say, he just isn't the best at showing it."
"Then you see more in him than the rest of Sunset Savana. You seem to also see more in Sunset Savana than the rest of the world. I thank you for that."
"No need to thank. I've seen first hand how others treat your citizens and I don't appreciate it. We can only learn from history so we do not repeat it, no need to guilt descendants for the actions of their ancestors."
"Would it be too forward of me to hope you'll visit Sunset Savana some day?"
"Well, according to the representatives, I'll be visiting a lot of places in the near future. I don't see why Sunset Savana can't be included in those visits."
"Meeting you now and hearing your wisdom, it's hard to believe my ancestors were so willing to harm Humans for nothing more than a meal. Hopefully I can prove to the world that we in Sunset Savana have grown past such violence and barbarism."
"I don't blame you for what has happened, and I am glad it was Leona who saved me from the Wolves. Hopefully this can be an end to the mistreatment of your people."
"I would love nothing more."
As you spoke to the Nemean Lion King amicably, two Dragons watched you from afar. One elder and one younger. With both of them standing next to one another their shared blood was obvious.
"I see you saw it fit to gift her your father's magestone. You are aware those magestones are a pair and how they work, correct?"
Malleus nodded, gazing out at the Human he so greatly adored. Everything about this day had taught him more than ever that he could not bear parting with his most prized Hoard member. It didn't matter to him if he had to work endlessly to defend his soft Human, the world would fall in line for daring to encroach on his Hoard.
"You are certain?"
"More than I can convey."
"Very well. You will do well to take heed of how fragile Humans are, especially to us."
"I won't let you down."
"Lilia still has a few centuries left based on his species, his guidance will be invaluable. You may not wish to heed his words at all times, but you should still hear them all the same. I remember my court of Humans... Such fascinating creatures. Be a good Dragon and guard your Hoard."
"With my life."
˙⋆✮Vampire Town✮⋆˙
TWST Modern Vampire AU
Featuring Rook, Idia, and Riddle <3
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Imagine you inherit an old manor from your eccentric grandmother and decide to move there. Your grandmother swore up and down on the supernatural, and even though you didn't believe her, you still loved her. The house is on the outskirts of a small and cute town, but little do you know, the town of Night Raven is a secret haven for vampires and humans to live peacefully together.
A/N: Hi guys!!! Welcome to a new au i thought of <333 I was inspired by @r-aindr0p with their rook x rollo supernatural au. Reading it made me realize how fun so many twst boys would be as vampires >:) I have so many ideas about this au that I need to work out. I know the direction I wanna go with Malleus is, and I have a vague idea about the octatrio that idk if it is too weird lol. If you have any questions or asks about this, then send them in!! Anyways, happy reading!! <3
Update: here's Malleus, Leona, and Kalim in this au: Royalty Bites
Tumblr media
🏹 Vampire!Rook who you saw as a shadow out your window in the first week. One day, you catch him staring at you through your window and you freak out on him. After that, you're closing the curtains in your room and ruining his favorite stalking people watching past time!!
🏹 Vampire!Rook who is bemoaning the loss, is determined to get in your good graces and this time do more than just peep through windows. He's leaving gifts of game, animal skins, and other trinkets. You've even gotten some rather expensive jewels from him! Each item is accompanied by a letter that borders creepy and romantic. He compares the jewels to your eyes and says they pale in comparison. He gives you skins of pretty creatures he found, stating how you are worthy of such luxuries and more. The game is his way of making sure you're well taken care of, as he writes about the importance of eating healthy. Some parts are in French and you have to pull out a translator app for them, but you're just kinda stunned.
🏹 Vampire!Rook who one day hears some burglars trying to break into your beautiful home, and non non, he cannot allow them to harm his precious little human! He handles them before they can even get in, and you see him do that and... well, maybe he's not as bad as you thought. After all, he's protecting your home. Hell, he didn't even mention the noble act, acting the next day as if everything was normal. After that, he does fall into your good graces. Now you (sometimes, if he's not being overly creepy or annoying) into your home! He still leaves you game but he seems to prefer watching over socializing often, so you leave him be. He seems harmless enough...?
Tumblr media
🎮 Vampire!Idia who's in your walls!! Well, not really. It turns out your grandmother allowed a vampire long ago to live in a small room for free. You didn't know he was in your house. There was a door that was stuck closed, and the window pointing into the room had thick black curtains covering it. One night, when you had to slip out to do something, you see the window is open.
🎮 Vampire!Idia who screams when you enter his room through the window. You scream too. You're both screaming. He has the audacity to throw a Hatsune Mike plushie at your face and it baffles you enough to stop your screaming contest.
🎮 Vampire!Idia who you demand to know why is in your house and he demands to know why you're in his room. You thought vampires couldn't enter without getting permission! Was it all a lie? It turns out, it was true. He just gained permission from your grandmother to enter that room, and he's never left it, so he didn't need permission to enter a room he's already in. You think he's joking, but after hearing the slang he uses, you could believe in another eccentric vampire being friends with your grandma. You leave him be in his room (although he's now forced to unbarricade the door from the bookshelf covering it) and you occasionally pop in and socialize him. You still haven't figured out how he feeds yet. How does he get humans when he's in his own bubble? Oh well, that's not your problem (you hope).
Tumblr media
❤ Dhampir!Riddle who is the sheriff of the town. On the first day of you moving in, he pulled up and gave you a thick book of rules you must follow. He also told you a few rules for the day and pointed out various rule violations of your house (the bushes in your yard are overgrown by six inches and you are to say the exact words "Welcome in dear guest," whenever you let someone into your home). It turned out the rules are meant to help accommodate vampires and humans living together, and although some rules do seem straight-up nonsensical (you can't have certain flower combinations in the front yard and certain combinations in the backyard, unbirthdays parties cannot have chamomile tea, and hedgehogs always have the right of way on streets amongst other absurd rules).
❤ Dhampir!Riddle who invites you to an unbirthday party after you get accustomed to vampires. The party turns out to be a delight! You meet some new vampires and humans, and party with them. It's a bit odd, to have a pleasant conversation with him before he suddenly shouts at Ace, a fresh vampire, to not wake up a mouse sleeping in a teacup before he returns his attention to you, chatting away as if he didn't just turn red in the face.
❤ Dhampir!Riddle who enjoys chatting with you and has taken it up to visit your house at least once a week as a "security check," since he knows the manor you live in is a vampire magnet. These checks are just him giving stern warnings about breaking rules until you can coax him into your kitchen to share some pastries with you. He's unused to your natural curiosity as you always ask him about Dhampirs. They're rare, and you're just trying to understand the world you've discovered. He turns a cute red when you ask him to open his mouth to inspect his fangs. He obliges but is flustered the entire time. It's cute to see him so flustered and perhaps even relaxed with you.
Hi hi! I really like all of your Yandere TWST stuff, but I admit I’m in LOVE with vampire Pom Trio. I wanted to ask how you think the whole trio would react to a sickly/frail darling. Like maybe darling was spooked and nervous to go in based on the rumors of the manor but their “friends” forced them to. Like friends could be their own.y ride, being sick could limit their interactions so they try to please their friends cause they’re lonely, etc. Like I could see Epel becoming such an overprotective big brother, especially if his new sibling is weaker/cuter/smaller than him. Vil could see the hidden beauty behind their weak/sickly form and try to bring out their “true beauty”. While Rook just loves their naive sweet demeanor and how so much of the world seems new to them. Uh! Just the idea seems so good to play with and darling could legit come to care for/love the trio cause while they are yandere and vampires they treat them better than anyone else ever has.
Tumblr media
.。*♡ A/N: This was so fun and cute ngl, Epel's brotherly instincts really shine here when he realized that Yuu is like he is when he was human. And thank you, the Pometrio au was something I writed on a whim but it's my favorite oneshot so far! I hope you like this!
.。*♡ Warnings: Platonic yandere content, vampire stuff y'know, blood sucking, dead corpses, angst, Ace is an asshole here, Reader has a very bad immune system and gets sick easily.
You were standing in front of the abandoned house, staring at it for a few minutes now. Something about its energy was so dark and draining, though the drops of heavy rain were soaking you from head to toe effortlessly. You had to go in now, you are already here, alone and cold, as your friends didn't want to wait for you to have a sudden change of heart and enter with them.
Your friends, mainly Ace and Sebek were excited while Jack tagged along just because, Deuce tried to make them wait for you but all of them were eager to explore the hidden secrets that the old mansion may hold. So they went on without you. Letting you here alone, in the dark, your only company was a sense of discomfort seetling on your bones.
'I'm going to catch a cold', You thought to yourself as your coat was completely soaked and your whole body was trembling.
You could turn around and go away. Or you could enter and search for them. You were certain if they were in your position, they would go away without a single thought, but you felt a bitter taste on your mouth just by considering this option. It didn't seem right.
With a resigned sigh, you went through the rusty gate, running through a long path to get to the door, passing by a garden full of withered flowers. With every step, the sound of your feet crushing the wet grass echoes around you as you huddle under the hood of your coat, trying to shield yourself from the rain that falls incessantly and the cold that seeps into your bones. You just knew that tomorrow you would wake up with a raging fever and a cough that never goes away, your health was so fragile and weak, a simple rain could put you to rest in bed for several days. You try not to think about it too much.
Without a doubt this mansion used to be a beautiful place years ago but now it was downright chilling, even more right now where your imagination can ran free, making appear as the house loomed over you as it was too dark to see anything clearly. The broken windows and peeling paint only proved to you how much time has passed, how not a single human had put their foot here in a long while.
And if someone was here and now, they didn't have any good intention. Abandoned houses were first of all, abandoned, nobody repaired it or took care of it, so it was dangerous to walk through it.
And second, you knew that in houses like this it was common to dispose of bodies or sell drugs, things like that. It was just common sense.
Swallowing hard, you turned the doorknob and entered the mansion, preparing mentally for whatever was going to happen.
Inside, darkness seemed to consume everything it could touch. The frail light came only from the moon and was not enough to see clearly. The hallway was empty so you took to wander around a little, hugging yourself to not get so cold. It was not working as a sneeze left your lips, your throat starting to get rough and dry.
It was so cold, so cold and wet, and dark everywhere. Your eyes got used to it very slowly and sometimes you kept bumping into doors and walls because the light wasn't enough. Though you really thought you heard at least once someone laughing when this happened.
"Gosh, why did I came here?" You thought out loud. Bitterness rising inside you as you remembered how Ace belittled you and forced you to come. All the rude things he said running through your head as you very slowly walked through the maze of decrepit corridors and forgotten rooms, still feeling that something very wrong was about to happen.
If not right now, then later on.
The dim light filtering through the broken windows casted eerie shapes on the decaying walls, and the silence was oppressive, broken only by the creaking of old floorboards beneath your feet and your breathing. The whole place was devoid of life, of happiness, you looked for it in the portrait faces and all of them were seemed so sad and gloomy. Just like you.
Gloomy just like you are, having to deal with your bad immune system almost daily.
"Why didn't I just said no?" You knew why you didn't said no. Ace was one of your only friends, even if he was mean and rude without reason. You didn't want to be alone inside your room anymore, you didn't want to see your mother's worried expression or your father's frown as you got sick and bedridden again.
It was exhausting.
Even convincing them you'll be alright to go out tonight was hard as they were too worried about you.
"It could be worse" You smile even when your legs started hurting from how much you have been walking. Your stamina was always lacking, contrary to other teens you knew.
You got tired pretty quick so this was nothing new.
Feeling your energy dissipating, you call out for them once more, your voice echoing through the halls and then fading away slowly, leaving you behind. "They left me here all alone, didn't they? Well, it is my fault to allow them to drag me here, I suppose."
Then, you hear it: a strange noise echoing through the darkness. It's a faint, ominous sound, like a whisper carried on the wind or a belt being dragged on the floor, sending a shiver down your spine.
You strain your ears, trying to pinpoint the source of the noise but it seems to come from all directions at once, disorienting and unsettling.
"Really guys, you're going to play a prank on me?" You rolled your eyes. "Here of all places?
Certainly it was Ace idea to scare the daylights out of you and honestly it could have worked if you aren't so tired, another sneeze leaving your throat as you started walking again in a random direction. "I'm telling your brother you're being mean again, Ace and Sebek!"
You heard a giggle behind you but when you turned around there was no one there. Then it happened again and again but there was never someone there when you looked. An instinctive fear was growing on the pit of your stomach as you struggled to maintain calm, making excuses to not get scared.
It could be the wind. Or your imagination, maybe.
Or... Or... You didn't know.
You realized then that with each passing moment, the noise was louder, more insistent, it was as if the mansion's walls were alive with some unseen presence, watching you and waiting for a better opportunity to strike, faint smell of something you can't quite name it was on the air.
The wind was howling sofly at your ears, water dripping somewhere above you. Or was it beneath? Your coat was heavy on your shoulders, entirely soaked.
You weren't entirely sure as it was too dark to distinguish anything on the floor. What you did recognized was the sounds coming back.
I always knew I would die but it has to be here?' You looked around.
You were still surronded by doors who lend nowhere and the sound was getting near, taunting your existence as your friends liked to do, joking how you had more time to rest and the only price to pay was taking some meds or go to the hospital.
How it was easy to exist like this.
You hesitate, unsure of what to do next. Should you stay and investigate the source of the noise, or should you ran? Every instinct screams at you to run, to escape this haunted mansion and its unknown horrors. But a part of you don't want to leave now.
You knew so little of the world, you were drawn to the mystery, to the possibility of discovering what lies hidden in the shadows, plus it was still raining outside.
"If there's someone out there, come out." You added after a few seconds, uncertain. "Please?"
You heard a little laugh behind you but this time when you turned around, there was someone there - said someone was so close that you both bumped your heads by how fast you had turned around.
You stumbled back, almost tripping if the stranger hadn't grabbed both of your hands, you were apprehensive but otherwise curious about this strange boy.
"Ouch, look where ya goin!" He grumbled, though there was a little smile in his voice. He laughed again and the sound was soft.
You protested loudly. "You were the one who was standing behind me!"
You meet the boy's gaze with a calm expression, snickering a little at the face he was making. The boy rolled his eyes, seemingly amused by how you didn't reacted at all by his sudden appearance and yet he wasn't in no hurry to introduce himself, letting the seconds go by, instead taking to observe you and the little bandages that adorned your cheek and the little cuts on your fingers.
"Ya alright, kiddo?" He asked after a while. His voice was softer than you could imagine. And there was a special glimmer on his eyes as if he was approaching a wounded, frightened animal.
"I'm fine, thank you," You replied, a little too quickly for it to seem natural as you hid your hands behind your back and straightened your back.
You didn't want to tell him you fell and scrapped yourself just the other day or how your arms were sore because of the injections frequently administered into your veins. You wished to forget this.
But then again, you had no reasons to tell him that, even if his inquisitive eyes searched for something deep inside your soul. "Just a few scratches, nothing serious." You laughed it off, not mentioning the potentially growing fever that seemed to burn your body very slowly.
"I can be a little clumsy sometimes." You lied, averting your eyes from his, a shiver running down your spine as you did so. His eyes, lilac and big, were like two stars staring at you, burning you.
The boy hummed softly, not at all buying your story as his eyes lingered on the bandages that adorned your cheek. There was a thoughtful expression on his face as he observed you, as if he was trying to piece together the story behind your injuries.
He was stranger, more than this, you thought, what was he doing here? Why was he here? He didn't looked much older than you, maybe a year or two. And he didn't look dangerous too.
After a moment of silence, he finally spoke again, a little awkward and unsure as if he didn't talked much with people his age. "Glad to hear that, the name's Epel by the way." He said, a hint of genuine concern in his tone. "So... What brings you here?"
You hesitated for a moment, unsure of how much to reveal to this stranger. But there was something about him that put you at ease and you found yourself opening up to him more than you had expected. You didn't felt any judgement coming from him, instead he was very warm and friendly enough that he made you forgot about where exactly you two were at that moment.
"It's Halloween. My friends wanted to visit a creepy place, even if I didn't agree to it. Not because I'm afraid, well, I am a little, but because I'm still recovering from a very bad flu. They didn't care about it, though." You answered him, and that made you cringe.
Admitting this out loud - that they didn't cared about you - was a little sad even more because of the things they had called you when you voiced your opinion. "And then, next thing I know they all go in and I'm getting soaked in the rain."
Epel nodded understandingly, a sympathetic smile gracing his lips. "But friends don't force each other into uncomfortable situations, don't call them names and don't hit them either." He stated as if it was obvious then he flicked your forehead.
You flinched, a little groan leaving your throat, not expecting this.
He was right.
And you knew it, of course you knew. But you also didn't want to be alone anymore with your thoughts. If being the scapegoat to Ace's comments and pranks was the price to pay, you found out that you didn't mind at all.
You were used to it by now.
"You don't have to endure this, you don't have to live a life you don't deserve." Epel pondered for a minute, looking at you from head to toe, water still dripping from your heavy coat. "That's what my dads say, anyway. There's a bathroom turning to the left, go dry yourself and I bring you some new clothes."
It was almost comic how you were being lectured by a stranger who didn't knew anything about you but had a little of common sense. But what was more strange was how he knew where to go and even knew where to get some clothes, humming you decided not to voice your suspicious about it and take this opportunity instead.
It would, after all, be easier to run from him in dry clothes if he truly was dangerous.
Not that you'll run that far, a voice in your head told you. But at least I could try, you answered it.
With a hesitant smile, you followed his instruction, turning left and making your way down the corridor to the bathroom. You felt his eyes on you as you walked and that scared you a little but you knew that deep down, he was not a bad person.
Or maybe you were wishing really hard for that to be the truth.
You turned the doorknob and started coughing when the dusty winds slapped your face. The bathroom as any other room was not used for many years now and its age showed. A little light came from a broken window revealing a cracked mirror hanging above a chipping sink and tons of vines still growing over the walls and stretching to the floor. You observed them for a second, in some way this was almost beautiful. You wished you had brought your phone with you. Alas, you didn't.
Your searched for a towel inside the cabinet below the sink and surprisingly enough there was one. A little dusty but it was the only thing you could use. You hanged it on the back of the door and then closed it. The bathroom now was completely dark but this was nothing new, though you didn't really like it how suffocating it could be.
You quickly strip off your wet clothes, shivering in the cold air as you used the fluffy towel to dry your feet and legs, then your torso. Part of you still find this whole situation strange and comical. Maybe you were hallucinating everything? It would not be the first time this happened. And you did spend a while out there in the rain.
As you dry yourself off as best as you can, you couldn't help but wonder about where Ace and the others had gone to. You were separated for a total of ten minutes or that was how long you had counted before giving up and entering the mansion. Could it be that they were in another wing of the mansion? Or did they leave through another exit and left you there?
Honestly you don't even want to know.
Right now, you're just grateful for the warmth of the towel and the promise of dry clothes to come. If this was indeed a dream, then you would feel saddened when you woke up. Epel was the first boy who didn't look at you with pity but with curiosity instead.
He was the first one to be gentle with you rather then offer tips about how to get better soon or how you should suck up and live instead of lamenting that you're sick again.
It was easier to cling to the idea that he was a good, caring boy instead of a total dangerous creep who was wandering around an abandoned mansion.
Moments later, there was a knock on the door and Epel's voice sounded from the other side. "I brought you some clothes," His tone still gentle and reassuring, like an absolute angel. "I hope they fit."
You open the door to find Epel standing there, holding out a bundle of clothes for you. "Thank you," you answered softly, meeting Epel's gaze with a heartfelt smile.
You close the door again, hearing his footsteps moving away while you observed the clothes he brought you, which funnily enough were exactly your size. And were similar to his own. A pair of pants and a really pretty purple coat. It seemed so fluffy and warm.
As you slip into the dry clothes he's provided, you can't help but feel a little curious while you thought about Epel. Who exactly is he and what is he doing in this abandoned mansion with his dads? Why does he seem so familiar with the layout of this place? You might not know a lot about tons of things thanks to your illness and being homeschooled, but you do know that people in abandoned mansions must be here for a reason, usually not a good one.
You're giving him the benefit of the doubt for now, though.
Still you must find your friends and leave soon. This whole game they're playing around is getting boring and you are tired.
Or I could leave alone. You reminded yourself. It's just fair to leave them when they've done the same to me many times before.
Stepping outside the bathroom, you could hear a faint sound. Weak. You couldn't understand what it was though. It was quiet like the wind howling or the house creaking, it was there only for a second before disappearing as if it had never existed. Still a chill went down your spine as if somethine was telling you to run away and don't look back.
"Epel?" You called sofly.
There was no response. The air seemed thicker now and an uneasy feeling settled in the pit of your stomach again, remembering the noises from before. Did Epel had a sudden change of heart and was going to reveal he is actually a serial killer?
Or that his dad is the serial killer? Or that someone is a serial killer?
You're watching too many documentaries, that's for sure.
You took a hesitant step forward, the floorboards creaking beneath your feet. The faint sound echoed again, this time closer, but still indistinct. It seemed to be coming from the end of the hallway, the same hallway that you supposed Epel had gone to after you went to the bathroom.
I should probably run away now. You thought.
But then again, you never had time to be curious with how quick you could get sick. You had to find out more, or you were going to regret when you got back home.
The sound became louder, more pronounced. This time, it wasn't like a whisper carried on the breeze, but like thunder that consumes everything within reach. It was unnerving, almost as if the very walls held secrets they were reluctant to divulge. And yet you were persistent enough to try and get your answers.
You followed the sound quietly, hoping that nothing bad had happened. With each step you took, you turned your nose up at the strong smell that permeated that area of the house.
"Epel?" You called out to him once again, this time louder, as soon as you turned the hallway. "Ace? Jack...? Guys?"
A figure came running in your direction and crashed into you, sending you both to the ground, dust raising as you did. The world seemed like a blur, spinning around, your ears tingling. Before you could fully process what had happened, you felt strong arms wrap tightly around your middle, pulling you close.
Instinctively, you tensed, kicking and screaming at whoever was holding you to let go.
Then you heard the familiar voice. "You're alive, thank God."
Relief flooded through you as you recognized Ace's voice, hands still raised to punch him; when you looked up, your relief turned to shock.
Ace was bloodied and bruised, his clothes torn and ragged. His face was a mask of pain and exhaustion, but despite it all, he held onto you with a fierce desperation, as if afraid to let you go. You could see guilt on his eyes, on his frown.
Guilty for how he treated you. Guilty for dragging everyone to this cursed place.
He placed his hand over your mouth and pointed to somewhere behind him with his head. "Vampires. They're real."
A half laugh escaped you. "No, Ace, they aren't."
But as you glanced over his shoulder, you couldn't deny the sublte movement in the darkness, the sense of danger lurking just beyond your sight. For only a second, you thought you saw a pair of lilac eyes and then it disappeared as if it didn't existed.
You remembered Epel. His familiarity with this mansion, how he was walking in the dark as if he could see clearly. You thought about the strange sounds you had been hearing and the bad, metallic smell. Despite your doubts, you could feel fear growing on you, whispering that perhaps there was more to Ace's warning than you were willing to admit.
Before you could think about it, Ace stood up and helped you, looking to the dark that still surround you - the moon hidden behind the clouds, his grip on your hand tight as the darkness only grew.
"I do a lot of dumb shit but there's no way I'm going to pour fake blood on me. You have to trust me on this." He begged you, almost desperately, taking both your hands on his own as he stared at you with pitiful eyes.
But you still couldn't believe him, not yet, there was so many holes on his plot.
What if it was just another prank? Once Ace pretended that he was been chased by a serial killer or something and then laughed when you got worried, being really dismissive and cruel to you. You met his gaze. Could it be true? Could creatures of myth truly walk among us?
No... Yes...? Everything was so confusing.
You met Epel and he didn't seem like a vampire to you. And if he was one, he was a very polite one.
"I doubt it." Is finally your answer. But even you could tell your tone was unsure. "Call Jack, Deuce and Sebek back and let's go home already. My feet hurt."
Ace threw his hands up as a disbelieving laugh escaped him. Dried blood made you wrinkle your nose as he was still close enough for you to catch the scent. Ace paced back and forth for several seconds, like a man convinced of a bad idea but who desires more than anything to pursue it without a second thought.
"You don't understand the gravity of the situation!" He exclaimed, his voice filled with indignation as his hands trembled slightly. "Jack and Sebek are dead. Deuce is missing. They were murdered by that trio of vampires. Why, out of everyone who could have stayed alive, do I end up with the sick and useless burden? The one who can't run? The one who can't do anything? Why did you live while they didn't?"
You felt a lump form in your throat upon hearing Ace's words, laden with pain and frustration. Tears threatened to flood your eyes as the weight of Ace's final words hit you like a punch to the gut, his voice dripping with bitterness and despair.
You felt like a dead weight, a burden only bringing more pain and suffering to those around you. It was a feeling you knew all too well.
Impotence. Sadness. Yes, you knew them well.
You searched for any trace of regret in Ace's eyes, hoping there was something there. But there was nothing, as if the red of his eyes was just a facade for the darkness behind them.
Sometimes he talked before thinking. That was one of those times but this didn't excuse his behavior.
"Well… This sick burden here won't bother you anymore, if you want to run, then run. If you want to escape, then escape, I won't delay you."
Tiny tears finally escaped your eyes, rolling silently down your cheeks as you felt yourself sinking into the darkness of your mind. Burden, burden, burden, being repeated over and over again.
"Oh, Ace, my feet hurt, oh, Ace, you hurt my feelings and now I'm crying like a fucking baby. For fuck's sake, we have no time for this!" He exhaled hard, his frustration palpable in the air.
You took a step back, pulling away from him. Your head was a mess right now, a whirlwind of conflicting emotions and thoughts fighting each other. And it was so hot here, unbearably hot.
The weight of Ace's words hanged heavy in the air, leaving a bitter taste in your mouth. You felt hurt by his harsh words and the way he had dismissed you so callously. Like he always did, always used to do in front of his friends. You wiped your tears away roughly, feeling a surge of frustration building within you.
With a final, determined glance in his direction, you turned and walked away, a little awkward and feeling really hot all of sudden. Each step bringing shivers down your spine, feeling as if thousands of eyes were staring right at you.
"Fine... I'm going to prove to you that there's nothing there." You pointed to the dark corner. Too tired to care about the possible danger lurking around.
"Wait- get back here!" Ace whisper shouted. Almost desperately.
You paid him no mind, couldn't find the strength to care. If there was a mystical monster then at least you could ask it some questions and you had so many. If there wasn't, you two could go home and reunite with your other friends tomorrow.
"I'm going to count to three and then I'm going to run." Ace warned you.
You were almost there. The air was a little heavy now but you knew it was just fear acting up. Sweet, heavy air that didn't seem to want to reach your lungs. You breathed through your mouth instead, counting the sound of your footsteps and the whistle of the wind.
There was nothing there.
"One." He started, a bead of sweat trickling down his forehead and coating his shirt. Fear was visible in his eyes when you turned to face him.
"There's no one here, Ace." You gestured to the dark corner. Though you felt uncomfortable there, you shifted from one foot to another, looking around.
Yep, nothing there. Or so you thought.
Slowly Ace started to move away, still facing the dark you so willingly surrounded yourself. He made a vague gesture for you to follow him, audibly gulping large amounts of saliva, wetting his lips with his tongue.
Is he being serious about this whole vampire thing? You ponder about. The human perception truly was something curious, the mind capable of creating something with so little. Or perhaps this was all a prank? You couldn't quite decide what to think about.
"Tw--"
An unexpected noise sounded behind you interrupting him. Both of you froze, your heart pounding in your chest. Gentle hands settled on your shoulders, drawing you back until you were pressed against someone's chest. All that escaped your lips was a small gasp.
Feeling the cold of the person's body against your back, you couldn't shake off the tremor of fear that ran through your whole body. There was someone behind you, someone you didn't know who they were. You could feel whoever it was breathing, cold air trickling down your neck, a smile on their face as their arms wrapped around your mid. Too tightly.
Slowly turning your head, you found yourself face to face with Epel. As Ace had said, a formidable figure - a vampire. Though he wasn't the same gentle and soft boy you met minutes before, now he was dangerous, and his fangs were exposed, his eyes glinting with an unsettling hunger and yet, playfulness.
Behind him, stood a beautiful man. A long, black coat wavying in the air as he walked out of the shadows, blood dripping from his chin. Unashamed, he licked it, savoring it.
"Why...?" You ask the boy who held you. Tired.
Epel's grip on you tightened, his eyes locking onto yours with an intensity that sent shivers down your spine. "Why?" He imitated you, his voice a mix of amusement and something darker. "Because I hate people like your friends. They can'tsee anything beyond their limited world vision, everything is so easy to them so they don'tcare about the feelings and thoughts of people like you."
Ace, who had been standing frozen in place, finally found his voice. "w'dya mean? I didn't do shit!"
The beautiful man in the black coat stepped forward, his eyes fixed on Ace. He wiped the remaining blood from his chin with a casual swipe of his thumb. "So you say but you see... The way you talked about your little friend here made my son very mad. You aren't very fond of them, are you?"
"I don't understand," you whispered, looking at Epel. "Why are you doing this? What did Ace do to deserve this?"
Epel's expression softened for a moment, a hint of regret flickering in his eyes before he hardened again. "It's not about what Ace did. It's about what he didn't. He didn't care about you at all, and that much was obvious since he invaded our home. He was joking and telling his friends all your most embarrassing stories to whoever wanted to hear."
He sounded sincere. He sounded sincere and you hated because you believed in him, his breath icy agains your feverish hot skin. "But don't worry, I'm not going to hurt you. Or him for that matter, but father will."
The man in the black coat chuckled, his laughter sending a chill through the air. "That I will, for he dare enter in my territory, dirtying our portraits and damaging our coffins. And I suppose, insulting your little friend too, Epel."
You could see how Ace wanted to run, to escape the madness that was about to unfold before you, but his legs, like yours, felt like lead. Instead of running, he found himself rooted to the spot and he was shaking like a leaf about to fall to the ground.
His bravado had disappeared.
"Are you trembling, mortal? Are you afraid?" Epel's father hissed, his voice a chilling whisper that slithered into your ears and sent shivers cascading down your spine. His eyes, cold and piercing, bore into Ace's eyes with an intensity that made your breath caught up on your lungs.
The air around you seemed to grow colder, as if his very presence was siphoning away the warmth. "Good," he continued, a cruel smile playing on his lips. "You should be."
At any second now you were about to have a panic attack or faint. Your body was still deciding what to do, really.
Epel's father moved with an elegance that was terrifying in its beauty, each step deliberate, his presence commanding and predatory. Before Ace could even think to react or to run, Vil was on him, faster than a flicker of light. There was no hesitation, no room for escape — the vampire’s hand shot out, slamming Ace against the cold, cracked wall with such force that a strangled gasp tore from his throat.
You froze, helpless, as Vil’s fingers tightened around Ace’s throat, lifting him just high enough that his feet barely scraped the ground. Ace struggled, his nails digging into Vil's hand. It was like watching a wounded animal fight a hawk.
“Is this all?” Vil murmured, his voice as soft and smooth as silk. He had the kind of voice that could calm anyone, his soft german accent coming out. “Is this the best you can do?” He tilted his head regarding Ace with an expression of mock disappointment.
"Indeed, how pitiful." A third voice. You turned around to see Epel’s other dad; another blonde, but this one had savage eyes and a strange smile on his lips.
And he was bloody all over; all over his lips, all over his white shirt. And he didn't care at all about it.
"Tsc, such a messy eater, you are." Vil looked at him with a disgusted stare. The other vampire only smiled.
"Plea-se..." Ace’s breath came in ragged, desperate gasps, but there was no strength left to fight back. The couple turned to face him.
"He is not worthy to be killed by you, mon amour." The smaller blonde said to his lover. The taller one giggled.
You took a step forward, your heart pounding painfully in your chest, but Epel caught your wrist, stopping you. “No,” he whispered, pulling you back gently, his eyes meeting yours with a sorrowful understanding. “It’s already over.”
“But… he’ll die,” you whispered back, tears blurring your vision, your voice barely a choked whimper.
Epel’s grip on you tightened, his expression soft but resolute. “He brought this on himself. Don’t look. You don’t have to see this.”
But you couldn’t tear your gaze away as Vil leaned closer to Ace, his lips brushing against the pulse in his neck.
"Are you hungry?" He asked Rook.
"Je suis satisfait, love." His answer was instantaneous.
Vil nodded. And then, without warning, his fangs sank into Ace’s flesh.
His body jerked violently, his mouth opening in a silent scream as Vil began to drink. The sight was horrifying — watching as Ace's life was drained away, the color fading from his face with each passing second. You felt your knees buckle, but Epel held you steady, his touch the only thing anchoring you as you fought to keep from collapsing.
Vil pulled back after a moment, blood staining his lips, his eyes glowing with an eerie, predatory light. He watched Ace with a detached, almost curious gaze as the boy’s body sagged in his grasp, barely conscious, trembling with the last vestiges of life.
“Such a waste,” Vil murmured, his voice tinged with a faint hint of regret. Then, with a swift, effortless motion, he snapped Ace’s neck.
The sound echoed in the silence, sharp and final, and you flinched, biting back a sob that threatened to escape. Vil released Ace, letting him crumple to the ground in a lifeless heap. He turned back to you and Epel, dabbing at his lips with a handkerchief, his expression once again composed, as if nothing had happened at all.
“There,” He said, his voice calm, almost bored. “One less distraction.”
You trembled, unable to find the words, the sight of Ace’s lifeless body burned into your mind. The tears you had been holding back finally spilled over, and you tried to wipe them away, tried to force yourself to breathe. But the weight of what had just happened made it feel impossible.
Epel moved closer, wrapping his arms around you again, his touch gentle as he guided your head to rest against his shoulder. “It’s okay,” He whispered, his voice soft, almost soothing. “I’ve got you. You’re safe now.”
But even with Epel’s arms around you, you felt anything but safe. All you could see was Ace’s pale, lifeless face, the blood staining the ground, and the haunting, satisfied smile that still lingered on Vil’s lips.
“Mon trésor,” Rook murmured, his voice smooth like velvet as he addressed Vil. “You were as breathtaking as ever. Such skill, such grace.” His eyes drifted toward Ace's lifeless form before settling back on Vil with unrestrained admiration. “Tonight we've found so many little treasures. Yet the most interesting is still here.”
Vil sighed softly, shaking his head as he finished wiping the blood from his lips with a cloth. “What is it you want, Rook?” His tone was gentle but tinged with exasperation, as if he were used to indulging Rook's whims.
Rook gestured to you, his eyes alight with excitement. “This one. Look at them. They’ve endured so much yet still remain standing. Such resilience in one so delicate — it is rare, mon amour. I believe they belong with us.”
Vil’s gaze softened as he took in your form - frail, trembling, and clearly unwell, your breath labored. He stepped closer, moving with a kind of grace that seemed almost otherworldly, until he stood directly in front of you.
He reached out, hesitating for just a moment before brushing a stray strand of hair from your face, his touch gentle and warm despite the chill of his skin. “You’re burning up,” Vil observed, his voice laced with concern. “How long have you been suffering like this?”
You couldn’t find your voice, throat dry and tight, but you managed a small shake of your head, a weak attempt to dismiss his worry. Epel, who still held onto you, answered in your stead, his voice barely above a whisper. “They’ve been like this for a hour or so, Father. They got caught in the rain.”
Vil frowned, his brows knitting together in a way that seemed almost heartbreaking. “You should have come to me sooner, Epel,” He scolded, though his tone remained soft. “You know I would have helped.” He looked back at you, eyes now filled with a gentle determination. “You poor thing. You must’ve endured so much on your own.”
Rook’s eyes gleamed with something akin to pride as he watched Vil’s interaction with you, his smile growing wider. “See, mon amour? I knew you would understand. They need care, guidance. They need us.”
Vil nodded slowly, a resigned sigh escaping his lips. “Yes… they do.” He turned back to you, his expression softer than you’d ever thought possible, even more because he was the killer of your childhood friend.
“I used to be a doctor once,” He confessed, his voice quiet, as though sharing a secret. “And I have not forgotten the duty I took upon myself to care for those who needed me.”
You felt your eyes welling up with tears, unable to fully comprehend the kindness he was showing you. “You… you don’t have to…” you tried to protest, but the words died in your throat, the exhaustion and fever taking their toll.
“Hush,” Vil murmured, his thumb brushing against your cheek in a gesture that was achingly tender. “You’ve fought enough for one day. Let us take care of you now.” He glanced at Epel, who had been watching everything with wide, hopeful eyes. "Epel, go and prepare some chamomile tea, Rook, you wouldn't have a tonic for the fever, would you?"
Rook beamed, clearly delighted by how things were unfolding. “Ah, how wonderful! Our family grows once more!” He reached out to help steady you, his touch light, as though afraid you might break. “I don't have any remedy with me now, mon roi but I can go and brought more.”
Epel’s face lit up, and he quickly nodded, disappearing among the shadows and leaving you alone with them. These mythological creatures, killers. And also your helpers.
This moment never came.
"Then go, we'll be waiting" Vil said to his lover, depositing a small kiss on his forehead before he disappeared into the shadows and the darkness.
"We'll then, this way, little one." Vil's hand never left your shoulder as he guided you slowly through the corridors - you were skittish, preparing yourself for the moment where he would attack you, that he would kill you.
Vil’s grip remained firm but gentle, his touch more reassuring than restrictive. He led you through the dimly lit corridors of the mansion, his footsteps echoing softly on the wooden floor, a stark contrast to the loud, frantic beating of your heart.
You flinched at every shadow that flickered in the candlelight, expecting at any moment for him to bare his fangs, to reveal that this kindness had been nothing more than a cruel joke. But that moment also never came.
Instead, Vil paused at a doorway, pushing it open with a smooth motion and revealing a warmly lit room. The air was thick with the scent of herbs and lavender, and you caught sight of a large, comfortable coffin piled high with soft blankets.
“You’ll rest here,” Vil said, his tone leaving no room for argument. He guided you over to the coffin - his coffin, carefully easing you down onto the mattress. As you sank into the softness, a sigh of relief escaped your lips, your body finally succumbing to the exhaustion that had been clawing at you.
“But… why?” The question slipped from your mouth before you could stop it, your voice barely more than a whisper. “Why are you being so kind to me? Why won't you kill me?”
Vil’s eyes softened, and for the first time, you saw a trace of something warmer beneath the icy exterior—a hint of sadness, perhaps even empathy. “Because you deserve it,” He answered simply, as if it were the most obvious thing in the world. “You’ve suffered enough, haven’t you?”
You blinked up at him, struggling to process his words, to believe that someone like him — a vampire, a predator, a killer— could possess such tenderness. “But I’m just… I’m just a burden,” you murmured, your voice cracking with the weight of your insecurities.
Vil’s expression hardened, and he crouched down in front of you, bringing himself to your eye level. “No one in my care will ever be a burden,” He said firmly, and there was an intensity in his gaze that made you believe him, even if only for a moment. “You have worth, little one. More than you know and more that you're capable to see right now.”
Epel entered the room then, carrying a tray laden with steaming cups and small vials filled with colorful liquids. “Father, I’ve brought some tea.”
Vil stood, taking the tray from his son and placing it on the bedside table. “Drink,” He instructed, holding out one of the cups to you. “It will help.”
Your hands trembled as you reached for it, but Vil’s steadying grip enveloped yours, guiding the cup to your lips. The warmth spread through you, soothing the chill that had taken residence in your bones, and you couldn’t help but sigh as the tension slowly began to melt away.
"Don't make such a long face, darling," Vil reprimanded you, his fingers smoothing down the traces of worry and tiredness.
"I just... You know you are my friend's killer, right? I don't know how to react to that." You were sincere, avoiding his piercing gaze as you observed the porcelain and the drawings from his cup.
"We kill to survive, not for pleasure or entertainment, I can see how things may be from your point of view but you don't have to worry." He sighed, looking back at his son, Vil could see that he had grown quite attached to you. And the sight made him quite warm.
Epel was a terribly lone child in his opinion, and it would do wonders for him if he had a younger sibling.
"What will happen to me?" You dare ask him the question that made you scared. His hand found yours and he squeezed it gently.
"I will take care of you," He told you. Vil’s lips quirked up into the faintest of smiles. “Do you want to lie down now or wait for Rook to return with your medicine?” He turned his attention back to you, his eyes softer than before, and you answered him by letting your body fall into the coffin. “I see, well, rest now. We’ll be here when you wake up.”
And for the first time in what felt like forever, you allowed yourself to believe those words, to let your guard down, even just a little. As your eyelids grew heavy and sleep began to pull you under, the fever subsiding slowly, you felt Vil's hand slide into yours, his thumb brushing over your knuckles in a comforting gesture.
“You’re safe now,” He whispered, and with that, you let the darkness take you, lulled into a dreamless sleep by the warmth of their kindness.
Things may have not been ideal but they weren't that bad - for you, that is.
Cult of the Human: Character Breakdown
Hey Guys! Things are finally settling down so I’m starting to get things ready for my yandere Twisted Wonderland series inspired by @kiame-sama’s Humans Are Extinct series. My story is meant to take inspiration from her series and the game Cult of the Lamb. Watch the human be thrust into a new world and have to deal with a world full of obsessed Yanderes. This entry is meant to break down what monsters each of the characters will be and a bit of the idea behind that.
Evil Queen/Grimhilde- Harpy/Banshee
Hades- Will-o-wisp/fire fae
Maleficent- Dragon Fae/Celestial Fae
Reasoning:
Heartslabyul-
Ace is a Pooka as they are mischevious nature spirits. I see him as the rabbit of Heartslabyul, he playful and full of energy, but he will use his power cruelly if he deems necessary. Plus after finding out his unique magic I feel that a creature that copy the looks of others is spot on
Deuce is another story. I wanted a bunny or rabbit due to Deuce’s bunny day card, but I was looking for something that could fit his ready to fight nature. Thus, the Wolpertinger, a cute lil bunny with antlers, wings, and fangs. Looks cute but can go for the throat!
Riddle’s adherents to rules inspired this choice. Lots of myths go over the rules fairies have for their food, parties, homes, etc. I like the idea that Riddle didn’t quite get the playful nature most fairies do with the rules due to his mother. I see him as a flower/flora fairy, his home being a lovely rose bush.
Cater’s encantado is similar to a selkie, coming from the encantado dolphins in South America. I envision Cater’s water form as more like a mermaid than a full dolphin. The encantado are supposed to be supernaturally gorgeous men, but I feel like that works well with Cater’s established issues with his ‘true’ self. So many see him as just a pretty face so he just keeps up the illusion.
Trey is textbook definition a Brownie. He’s helpful, cooks, cleans, and takes care of others. But I have seen some stories say that when sufficiently pissed off a Brownie can turn into a Boggart. I like to think this fits Trey quite nicely as he is scary when he gets serious. Since I don’t know if these stories are myth accurate though (I found mixed info online) I decided to make him both. His Brownie dad seduced his Boggart mom by just taking care of her an refusing to give up.
Savanaclaw-
I like Jack as a werewolf, it fits nice but I decided to change it up a little. SkĂśll in Norse mythology is the son of Fenrir and chases the sun as it sets. In one of my friends D&D campaigns they made SkĂśll a race of celestial wolves that help lead the way for the stars at night. Very loyal, very strong at night, but weak during the day and need a pack with other creatures to help them.
I’m sorry I tried to find anything else that might fit, but Ruggie is 1000% a gnoll. It just fits him perfectly! I even found pics of a cute one selling his wares and just went, Ruggie would so do that to make a buck.
With Leona I do see how Nemean Lion works for his status as a ruler, but I feel like sphynx fits so much better. Leona is so much smarter than he pretends to be. Sphinx like to play with their food in some myths I’ve read and that reminds me of Leona’s plan for the tournament. Not to mention lots of the art I’ve seen decorates the sphinx in tons of gold and jewels.
Octavinelle-
For the sea trio I wanted to really lean into the monster inspiration. Not only are they mermen still, but they are a monster out size. Descendents of the great monsters Scylla do Charybdis they can tear apart full ships and devour large beasts. I see the tweels circling and creating a whirlpool or teeth like Charybdis, while Azul hides in a cave and picks off any escaping like Scylla. Makes them an even deadlier trio!
Scarabia-
I went looking for a creature to reflect Kalim’s cheerful nature and maybe his love of music. I was lucky to find the Shadhavar, a unicorn-like creature said to bring joy to those around it. The horn on its head is hollow and is supposed to play the most beautiful sounds. Not to mention stories of kings and other royalty paying lots of gold to try and get one in their collection.
Jamil on the other hand is a Naga, as it fits his personality and name to a tee. I’m thinking of basing him off a sand viper but I am still looking at options.
Pomfiore-
Epel’s connection with apples is what I wanted to focus on. So I went with a simple apple tree dryad/tree nymph.
Rook’s nature to hunt put one thing in mind for me, a headless horseman/huntsman, also known as a Dullahan. Rook refused to give up the hunt in life, or in death (joking). Rook seems to have a poisonous smoke wafting from his neck when his head is not attached (courtesy of Vil).
Vil is inspired by the original sirens or Greek myth (bird women also sometimes classified with harpies) and the more modern idea of sirens as more mermaid-like. Either way his beauty and voice draw others in, either to their doom or to heap praise upon him. But do NOT underestimate Vil, both sides of his family are viciously savage when scorned.
Ignihyde-
For Idia and Ortho I mixed Will-o’-wisps and a local legend of ghost lights. They are meant to be benevolent, leading lost souls home or the dead to the afterlife. But to not ever try to harm them, their fire can burn your very soul out of existence. Feel like this can really work with Idia not liking being near others (always floating just out of reach) and Ortho’s helpful nature.
Diasomnia-
Originally I was going for a more crocodilian monster, but then I saw Kobolds in the D&D manual. The fact that some play them off as worshiping dragons, being brash and loud, not always the most socially aware… So does Sebek know he’s a Kobold?
For Silver I thought about the Baku for a sec, but I feel like a Nightmare centaur is just perfect for Silver. Pulls on his equestrian training and his unique magic. Though instead of spreading nightmares I imagine he would fight them off.
Lilia is a vampire bat fae, not really much different than he is in the original game.
Malleus is also pretty similar to how he is in game. I plan to lean into how his type of dragon is different in my world and how he has more bird tendencies from his father, not to mention play with his demon heritage.
Staff-
For Crowley I wanted to really focus on his desire to share information. He may not be a great headmage in game but he has a slightly different role in my story. I made him a Crow Herold, basically a spirit of knowledge that tries to pass it on like how crows teach their young.
Crewel needs his coat, selkie can not be beat. I know there are other tales of creature taking off their coat/skin to reveal a person beneath, but selkies just felt more like they fit Crewel (especially with how brutal seals and sea lions can be).
Sam is a deal maker, a business man, he will get you what you ask as long as you pay the price. He is a crossroads demon who is trying to get people to see that demons stick to their deals. They have more in common with the rule following fae and fairies than most like to admit.
Trien’s long live and knowledge of history feels most important to my story so I wanted a creature known for their intelligence. He started off as a Griffin before he shifted to a Hippogriff due to my story changing. He is calm and kind, very nurturing, but do keep in mind he still has claws.
Vargas is a Minotaur, strong, proud, and bullheaded. He can be kind, especially to the younger creatures, but he can have a hairpin trigger at times.
Others-
Grim is a chimera, though he may look like an odd cat creature now, he will grow more and more of his features over time. Right now he has some tiny bat wings and his tail has fangs (but not a full snakes head).
 Rollo is a phoenix, as he needs an association with fire, but I felt like the phoenix makes his story more tragic. He can survive what his brother could not and it haunts him to this very day.
Fellow is a Huli Jing, while he may not be outright malicious he is a trickster and he will defend his brother to the death. He has many tricks but his magic is not the strongest.
I see Gino as a young bakeneko. Fellow is helping him learn to control his shape shifting and illusions, but the lack of voice makes some of his magic useless or difficult.
Chenya on the other hand is an oddity among his species. Most matagots are black cats so Chenya’s colorful coat stands out. He quite likes that fact but does wonder where it came from. He’s seen as mostly a household spirit, but do remember matagots can bring ruin when necessary.
Neige felt like he needed a cute creature that is more often overlooked. Pixies and sprites can be cute and are usually associated with light and whimsy, but they do have plenty of stories of leading others astray and attacking. Neige is genuinely sweet and wants the best for others, especially for the dwarves in his care, but he will fight when needed.
Skully as a revenant just makes sense for me. A spirit who can never pass on, drifting in and out of places. He usually sticks around the area where he died, feeling lost anywhere else. It is unsure if Skully was a human in his past life or one of the other human-like creatures since he can’t really remember too much of his past.
The Great Seven-
The Queen of Hearts (named Cordelia) is a mix of Flora Fae and Tinker Fairy. Flora Fae comes from the great amount of flowers and other flora in Alice in Wonderland. She has a tie to all of the all of the plant life, and like Riddle her odd rules. Tinker fairy ties into Disney lore for fairies like Tinkerbell. They build and craft things, leading to her building her queendom.
Scar is a sphinx just like his descendents, but he has Nemean Lion mixed in making him so much stronger and near invincible.
Ursula was born a simple Cecaelia but through hard work and magical practice she became a Scylla. So big and so terrifying that no one dared challenge her kingdom.
Jafar on the other hand, had to hide his Basalik lineage for a while, as many still saw them as wild beasts. He proved to his people that while they had deadly abilities beyond that of their naga cousins, they could be just as amiable as the other snakes.
Grimhilde is a raven harpy, with feathers so black they make the night sky look grey. But when you look closely you see a rainbow of colors as her feathers shine like jewels. While most can not tell of her banshee ancestry by appearance she is said to have  fought of invaders with her deathly wail. Her people still called her fairest of all after seeing her old hag form for she was beautiful no matter the appearance.
Hades is like Scar, he matches his descendants, but he was more. On top of being a will-o-wisp he was a powerful fire fae, some think maybe even an infernal. His fires blazed so hot that he is said to have melted an entire army.
Maleficent’s a dragon fae like normal, but I also added Celestial fae. Said to be born of the new moon she holds a great relationship with the night. Some even say she was the first nocturnal fae to have woken from the wild.
Pomfriore as vampires
This is a re-upload from my terminated account squid-god-supreme. This is technically part of the monster test Au I had but it isn't what the three of them are it's just for Halloween
CW : vampires, blood, gn!reader, uhhhhhh established relationship
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Vil
Vil comes from a very long line of vampires, and he's very classy so he doesn't "hunt"
He gets his blood from his family's blood bank, a personal supplier that ethically sources the blood
Of course after he's revealed himself as a vampire to his s/O it's a different story! If they'll let him then he'll simply drink from them
He doesn't drink blood very often, nor does he have a taste for human food beside a few select things.
When drinking from his s/O vil is romantic, lighting candles, making a dinner he's sure you'll enjoy, the works
His favorite place to bite is your lips and the inside of your wrist
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Rook
😃Literally hunts-
Although he mostly survives off of animal blood from creatures he kills, it's not uncommon for him to go hunting and simply suck blood from an animal carcass right then and there
So that is mostly how he eats
Unlike the other two took needs no convincing if you offer to let him feed off you
Another romantic<3
Possibly even more to than vil~ he'll also light candles, probably draw you two a warm bath, dinner, cuddles, reading to you,
If you find it romantic he'll do it
Very gentle when he bites
Favorite places to bite are your wrists and collar bone above your heart
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Epel
Only recently turned so he's still adjusting!
I think at first he just eats whatever he can find, small farm animals and such, he never kills them unless he has to, only taking what he needs to survive
If his s/o offers their blood it's messy, he tries to make it not hurt but he's very inexperienced so it gets messy
He can go overboard sometimes but he always apologizes profusely
He really loves to cuddle afterwards, he quickly learns that it's quite intense so aftercare is a must
Quickly becomes addicted to you
Alright lay em on me - what theories do you have for book 4? I want the random small stuff and the big nasty painful theories (I’m sitting in hell after reading through the demo so fast LOL just been surviving on everyone’s theories 😭😭! So I would love to hear yours!)
Hello friend! Thank you for the ask! This demo has been consuming me - I need to go through every single choice (and there are sprinklings of lore hints - such as N saying to be careful justice doesn’t become revenge or A subtly reacting to people turning into ash). Of course, the Rebecca theories. And the scenes with the other Units
Theories!
* While we learn N’s backstory and the big bad thing, we won’t learn but instead will witness N’s Tier X power (more obvious than the b3 scene)
* Rebecca will be tempted by the idea of seeing Rook once more, or will be trapped/caught by Li-Sar and will see the hallucinations of Rook. Rebecca might not survive this book, but she might (probably will) - and if she does, she’ll finally accept the Agency’s offering of grief counseling
* We will learn a lot more about Rook (which has been mentioned, the idea placing it in the Bobby/Douglas route if you took Rebecca to the auction)
* This is my bestie’s idea! Not mine! But I love it so much that I am going to mention it. That Units Alpha/Delta/Victor will help in capturing Li-Sar (because of the mention of their strengths/weaknesses)
* The masquerade is going to be so extravagant and a big, bad thing is going to happen ->
* Big, bad might include: the UB LI might accidentally be very injured again by the MC or on purpose by Li-Sar. Solar magic will continue to put them in peril ->
* THERE WILL BE THE VAMPIRE BITE! To save the LI’s life
Those are my big theories. Things I would like to see:
* Eric telling Verda his big secret / Pierson being revealed to Tina
* The LT having an ending point (number one of three)
* Meeting X (ex-member)
* Getting closure with Rook
* Bobby about to bust the story WIDE OPEN / Douglas settling into being a supernatural
* The option for a steamy scene with Li-Sar
Those are what I have off the top of my head! As with books two and three, we will learn more about UB’s backstories (LI and BFF routes)
Thanks for the ask! This is so fun and I am so excited for more!
I can't tell if requests are closed or not but if you feel up to it, can you do a ruggie (twst) hc's with an insomniac reader?
buddy
homie
word cannot express how many apolocheeses i am giving you because this is so absurdly late and AUGHHGHSVDJWHAS :(((
i had a few of the hc's sitting in my google docs and now that i'm clearing out my inbox i can SHARE THEMMMMM
Ruggie + Insomniac Reader
(i just realized you didn't specify romantic or platonic so i went with both, i hope you don't mind!)
PLATONIC
behind all that mischief and trickery, Ruggie's actually a really good friend
while he doesn't totally understand what he can do, the fact that he'll just be there with you sometimes is enough for you
like, you could be dozing off at lunch and it'll be a few minutes before class, and while he may be a bit rude abt it, he'll wake you up to make sure you aren't late
sometimes he'll poke you, lightly push you, and yell in your ear
and when none of those work, he'll use his UM to puppeteer you awake
only as a last resort tho, cause it scares you whenever he does that
and on nights where you just can't fall asleep, he's willing to chill out with you until well past curfew just doing anything and everything
you've had many a sleepover on both Savanaclaw and Ramshackle just doing fuck all
whether it be homework (where he yoinks your answers), playing cards (where he yoinks your cards) or just talking shit (where he yoinks your gossip for later use), he's down for anything
he feels bad sometimes if he ever passes out on you, leaving you awake, but he's quick to mask it with "isn't my fault you're literally a vampire", and it's funny so you're chill with it
sometimes he thinks your an actual vampire...
ROMANTIC
essentially the same as earlier, but he tones it down a bit
he'll stay at Ramshackle more often for sleepovers because, while you get along with his roommates and his roommates in return are chill with you, he can get a lil jelly sometimes
if he ever has to use his UM to wake you up, he won't yoink you up like a marionette, but would slowly wake you up by just sitting you up
he'll play nice during homework and game time by not stealing your answers or cards, but that doesn't mean he'll make it easy on you
he lowkey does it to tire you out in hopes you'll just pass out and sleep
during gossip time he literally turns into that one text thing that's like
"hey can i talk to you? not as my boyfriend tho"
"sure, call me, girlfriend, hehe"
"okay listen up girlfriend"
"i'm listening girl. men ain't shit"
loves you but seriously, if you don't sleep for long periods o time, he sometimes thinks of just knocking you out with a frying pan or smth
FINALLY this has been a wip in my docs for forever I SO SORRY ANON THIS IS LIKE A YEAR LATE I PROMISE I DIDN'T FORGET I JUST HAVEN'T BEEN INTO TWST UNTIL MY FRIENDS TOLD ME THAT ROOK WAS GETTING HIS SAVANACLAW SHOWCASE GYTFGHJKL;
It’s interesting how the theme of corruption, corruption of the soul, so to speak, is so present in Being Human. It’s a running theme from the first season down to the last, and even the purest souls can’t resist it, if the right moment and right circumstances align.
In the first season we have Mitchell of course, who resists Herrick and killing, but eventually gets sucked back by the prospect of the “Greater Good”. We have George who ends the season murdering an unarmed person (yes, a vampire and a mass murderer, but still unarmed) that traumatizes him.
In the second season there’s a whole theme of corruption of the soul by obsessing over revenge that is going on with Kemp and Lucy who is also killing people for the Greater Good. Mitchell is constantly being corrupted by the unwanted political power he now has. There’s a corrupted human cop who wants to use him for lynching the criminals who got away from justice (something that becomes the main theme in Toby’s 2024 show The Red King). There’s that coroner who was previously covering for Herrick and was made to work for Mitchell.
In the third season we have Mitchell saying that George was corrupted by him because George always suspected about the Box Tunnel 20 by chose to look away.
Even the purest of them all Tom was willing to turn his back on humanity to save Eve in s4. Tom who hates vampires more than anything else, was ready to become their lapdog out of love for the baby. Same was with Annie who was also willing to do anything out of motherly love for Eve, but eventually that motherly love was the thing that tipped the scales.
In season 5 we have Rook who is not a bad person at his core, but is doing heinous crimes out of sense of Duty and the Greater Good. We have the whole Devil’s corruption arc. And as we know from the DVD extra scene he was successful in corrupting our trinity, even if just for time being.
It’s a recurring theme for Toby as it seems – given how it is present in The Red King and now in the Bergerac trailer where the character asks the titular hero if he’s a corrupted cop. Speaking of which, it also seems like Toby is not a big fan of the police system. There’s only one good cop in Being Human and she gets killed. And in The Red King the whole system is broken. So, it will be interesting to see how he will deal with it in Bergerac.
♟ Monster Rook Hunt 🪦
Rooktober part three! Tempting @v-anrouge in again lmaooo
Three classic monsters, one extra-extra double pickles Rook.
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><
Vampire!Rook
Congratulations on winning your way into this man's heart and onto his dinner table.
You're so gorgeous to him.. you make him blush, you make him stutter and gasp, you make him feel his heart flutter and his mouth water.
Absolutely thinks you're more like a creature he can't hunt, a full meal he can only have a snack from, and it is vaguely annoying to him. It's like gardening, but with the extra requirement of cuddling the plant after picking the fruit from it.
But Rook is nothing if not a man dictated wholly by his not beating heart.
Depending on whether he was born a vampire or turned, how he treats you will be different.
If he was born as a vampire: You're a snack, that's all he's been taught. He may treat you kindly but he won't fully understand human needs and love. He'll probably attempt to love you the way other vampires show love. Enjoy those blood bags he set in front of you with wide eyes and a besotted smile, waiting for you to make the first move on your shared meal.
If he was turned a vampire:
"MY LOVE, MY LOVE, I HAVE BROUGHT YOU A GIFTTTTT" and it's a 4-course meal of all his favorite foods as a human he hopes you can enjoy the same.
So extremely and extraordinarily attentive. You may be his meal, but you're also his lover, and he treats you with every bit of love and affection he's been preparing for 350 years to give.
And he's also definitely turning you into a vampire. Don't worry, he'll keep an eternity filled with his antics.
Werewolf!Rook
Very in-touch with his wild side (what's new).
You may or may not have met him at a gas station in the woods when you threw an apple core into the wooded area next to the pump, and a shaggy golden wolf came bounding back to you with wide eyes, a wagging tail, and the apple core in his mouth. Your first game of fetch. Call it a date; that's what he did anways.
Your idea of cuddles is different to his. You may like to lay on his chest and watch a movie. He may like to completely tangle all of your limbs together and bury your face in the crook of his neck, because, Rook. Don't worry maybe you can hear the movie playing.
All of your meals are hand-hunted by your one and only. In human form, he's out hunting, a good thing, since otherwise he's harassing you with incessant French. In wolf form, he just wants to lie down on the bed and be docile. Is it a show so you're not afraid of him? Maybe. I guess it's an excuse for you to stay with him for a few years forever to find out.
He would love if you were into gardening. He takes pride in hunting food for you, and would be thrilled to use some home-grown herbs to make a meal you could both be proud of.
He's very rugged. It's a fight to make him wear nice clothes. If it's not practical ripped up and some hand me down from GOD KNOWS where, he doesn't want it.
Also, shaving. I hope you enjoy stubble because he will not be getting a clean shave. He can tell you he's 'just shaved', but you wonder how many nanometers of hair he even took off.
More like a golden retriever than a wolf. If it weren't for his superb hunting skills he'd be a disgrace to the werewolf community altogether.
And we could talk about how many kids he wants but let's keep this PG
Mummy!Rook
Snuggles? Snuggles.
Rook can't speak very well like this. But he can certainly show you the depths of his affection with body language alone.
You should be honored he came back from the dead just for you. You should probably be less honored that the museum has warrants out for your arrest now because, apparently, you can't take a mummy home, even with his consent.
Have you eaten? Have you?? He keeps trying to shovel food in your mouth with every passing moment that he's allowed in your fridge. Something about 'eating like royalty'. You don't know, honestly. The gauze makes it hard to hear him.
From what you've gathered, he was a highly-revered huntsman in his time. Not high enough to be buried in a pyramid, but high enough to be buried with great respect to his body.
You're not sure what brought him back, honestly, his love for you, your being unsure of whether he was a real mummy or a replica, some cheesy artifact bringing him to life ...we'll never know. His desire to prove you wrong may or may not have been at 100%
Did I mention he loves snuggles?
Do NOT try to remove the wrap. It's not for security reasons. It will not harm him to remove it. HOWEVER HE WOULD RATHER NOT UNDRESS UNTIL MARRIAGE THANK YOU.
Try suggesting he put on clothes over his wrap. It's not comfortable. It's like when you have long sleeves and you try to out a jacket over them. But if it's comfortable for him... just buy two sizes larger and try to ignore it.
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><
Part two coming soon!
Suggestions for monsters are more than welcome!
Gonna write a fucking multi chapter fic where Rook gets turned into a vampire and Emmrich tries to figure out a cure while simultaneously dealing with his formerly vegetarian gf who keeps licking her lips when she looks at him (in a hungry way not a sexy way). She just hunted down a pigeon like a cat and drained its blood like she was shotgunning a beer, and he’s having an absolute fucking inner meltdown because of the cosmic unfairness of her being made immortal in a fucking freak accident and she desperately wants it UNDONE is screwing with him HARD
Hours in the Moonlight: Fathomless Vespers - 8. Oddly Like a Mirror Image
Summary: The fact that Crowley hadn’t told you that all three of the members of the Octavinelle clan had been turned by an insane vampire was rather frustrating to say the least. But, it had also somehow managed to serve as some sort of bizarre opening for you to get to know the three men. So there was that.
“You weren’t informed of our connection to the insane vampires?” Azul frowned at me from behind his desk, and it was oddly like a mirror image of when I’d first come to this place.
Instead of it being him that was flanked by the twins, this time it was me, and we were in his office rather than the entryway of the restaurant.
I nodded, confirming his words even as a small part of me wondered if this was some sort of scheme they were going to use to get information out of me. If it was, I was impressed at how good they were at pinpointing weaknesses.
Sam had told me to be careful of them, though.
But it was also strange. If Crowley knew about all of this, why didn’t he tell me when he had me investigating the entire insane vampire issue?
Azul shook his head, seemingly just as confused as I felt, while Jade stepped around me, a hand placed to his chest as he leaned around to look at me better with that ever-flawless smile of his, “Allow me to explain then….”
So I sat in the chair Floyd spun around for me and gestured to and listened. Still frowning as Jade explained how he’d come up on land one evening to inspect a variety of mushrooms, for some reason, and was attacked by an insane vampire, but had managed to escape back into the water where he couldn’t be pursued.
“That was when things got bad for us. He got me first, then Azul,” Floyd’s tone was all but bored as he finished for his sibling. Making sure to squeeze in one dirty look at his brother as he spoke, that merely caused Jade to shrug and look at me in a perfectly amused manner that had my eyebrows arching.
Azul shook his head, distracting me from the intricacies of the twins' brotherly shenanigans, “Afterward, I took it upon myself to look into the entire matter, and I discovered the notion of the clans. I discussed it with the head-vampire himself and made the Octavinelle clan. We only started collecting blood through legal means later when it became obvious that there was a market for it.”
I nodded, understanding everything they’d said but still frustrated and confused as to why I hadn’t already been told this.
“Shame you weren’t here to stop that vampire before it attacked Jade, huh, Shrimpy?” I glanced over at Floyd’s words, my eyebrows rising at the oddly playful grin he gave me.
I wasn’t about to be blamed for something that had probably occurred before I was the vampire hunter for this district.
“Weren’t all of you already vampires by the time I started working as the hunter, though? You were all at that ball,” I glanced over at Azul, who nodded.
“Yes, we hadn’t been a formed clan for very long yet at that time, but we were already turned by then,” He propped himself on his desk, perfectly framed by careful stacks of coins that glittered in the dim lights of his office.
“Have you not been in the vampire hunting business for very long then, Y/n?” I jolted at the sound of my name, glancing over at Jade in slight surprise before feeling myself frown slightly at his oh-so-casual question.
The wary part of me hesitated to answer him, unsure of where it would place my standing as a vampire hunter in their eyes or if this might be the information they were seeking.
As if beckoned by my hesitance, the memory of Rook’s advice resurfaced once more, and I sighed, resolving to handle this entire situation as best I could in the normal fashion.
So far as I could tell, outplaying these three might be an impossible feat, but I might be able to get the information I needed and do what Crowley wanted if I handled this like I’d handled all the others.
Be cautious, but also not let my suspicions of vampires rule my actions. After all, I’d met quite a few vampires already, and even if these three struck me as particularly dangerous, I was beginning to think that my real task at each of these clans wasn’t to evaluate them, but to befriend them. Even if I couldn’t figure out why Crowley and his men might want that.
With that said, though, I still didn’t have to give them the exact timeline of my work as a hunter, and I certainly didn’t have to tell them that, thus far, I’d always had assistance in dealing with insane vampires.
“I started training under Rook after he was turned and made my debut shortly after that,” Jade smiled at my words, not even bothering to hide his smug pleasure at me having given him information.
“Aw, you haven’t been a part of the world of the night for very long at all, have you, Shrimpy~” Floyd leaned towards me, a wide grin on his face that was utterly devoid of his earlier menace. Almost like he’d relaxed around me and no longer felt the need to be quite so intimidating or something.
And, despite my remaining misgivings about the three of them, I found myself smiling slightly over at Floyd and shaking my head, “I’ve known about vampires for a long time, but I don’t suppose I’ve been an official part of this world for long, no.”
Jade’s eyes widened slightly before he frowned thoughtfully, but before I could really ponder what he might be thinking, Azul was speaking. His pale eyes locked onto me as he smiled at me in a way that spoke of him having found an opening that he’d been seeking, “You must have been caught quite off-guard by receiving such an important job of looking into the matter of the insane vampires so early in your job then. Should you ever need any help going forward, feel free to come to us.”
He paused, his smile turning a little bit too smug and causing my eyebrows to rise as he continued, “After all, we have access to quite a bit of information, Angelfish. It would be a shame if you had to resort to anything unpleasant to discover something we already know about.”
I stood, smiling slightly both at the young man and his bid to extend his business’s reach, “I’ll remember that, but for now I need to get home. The sun’ll be rising soon, so I’m sure you’ll need to be getting to some place safe as well.”
Azul stood, following me and opening the door for me as he continued. His wheedling charm from when I’d first met him sliding back on like a perfect mask and making me wonder where the young man who’d been discussing how he’d been turned into a vampire had gone.
“Of course, but if you’d like, I can send one of the boys to walk you back. I would hate for something to happen to you between here and your home,” His smile was easy as he peered at me through his glasses with an undeniably clever smile.
And, honestly speaking, I couldn’t even tell if he was just saying it to come across as benevolent or if it was a bid to find out more information on me based on my living arrangements. Frankly speaking, I didn’t think I’d put anything past this man.
I simply shook my head, though, slipping through the door and glancing back at the three men with a smile, “Thank you, but I should be fine. I am the local vampire hunter after all.”
The twins slipped forward, each with a smile on their face as they framed Azul once more before I turned away and made my way out of the building. Briefly realizing how quickly everything had changed in my interactions with those three.
Apparently working alongside someone really did make you get to know them that much faster.
Humans Are Extinct (Yandere!TWST x Fem!Reader) Monster AU pt 41
Tumblr media
(Vil- though not fully Overblotted- still has several visual changes to his coloration and appearance due to the intense presence of blot that had been in his system from his potion. He is able to explain most of it away for those who question him, but those who were present in the classroom when it happened know the truth. They are too loyal and earnest to speak that truth for Vil's sake and the Human's sake.)
Warnings; jealous dragon, fluff and theories, Clay is the only truly aware platonic yandere, Dragon, Harpy, Drider, Vampire bat, hellcat, mention of Cervitaur, mention of Raiju,
~~~~~~~~
"What happened?"
Standing before you- with his eyes wide and his entire body stiff- was a very unhappy and stressed Dragon. Malleus had been trying to keep himself calm with the aid of Lilia, but seeing your exhausted state sent him spiraling. The tell-tale black ink-like coloration at the ends of your fingers, lips, and hair told him you had more than just a brush with blot.
"Blot potion out of control. We're both good now, but we need a snack and some rest. Papa Hades said he would be up with something for us to snack on soon."
"..."
Malleus stood in silence, the tip of his tail flicking angrily and the low roll of thunder sounded in the distance. It often took a moment or two for the Dragon to fully process what was being said to him, and it often took your calmly stated words just a moment longer than most. You had been touched by blot and he was furious to think such a vile liquid could even have a hold on you for seconds, let alone long enough to stain your flesh.
"... Blot potion?"
"Yeah. A bad idea that became a dangerous opponent. It's sealed up now and Papa Hades said he would be dealing with it later. For now, I think Vil and I need a bit of a rest."
The trip back to your dorm had been a long one, or at least it felt so much longer to you and Vil given the prior events. Luckily Rook and Silver- after pulling themselves together- straightened up and carried the both of you. You were put on Silver's back while Vil was on Rook's back. Sebek, professor Clay, and Papa Hades led your group back to Ramshackle, all the while ensuring that any ne'er-do-wells knew to keep their distance.
Now you all were looking for a bit of rest, and Malleus was likely to panic upon fully realizing what took place. You weren't exactly keen to argue with the Dragon and you knew complete fallout would occur if he ever learned you had kissed Vil in order to give the blot potion easy access to your body. Though you could have likely done it a different way, it was the only thing you could think of to encourage the blot potion out of Vil and into you fast enough to save the Harpy.
"Tsuno, I know you aren't happy about it, but it happened and is over now. All that matters is we are back safe and sound. Right?"
"..."
"If it makes you feel any better, I'm not going to classes tomorrow. Well, Vil won't be either after tonight's events, so you can stick around with us tomorrow if you feel like skipping a class or two."
This made the Dragon perk up somewhat, clearly pleased at the idea of spending more time with you than he usually would be able to. Still, he seemed hesitant to believe that all of the present issues were resolved so easily.
"Now, let's talk about who gets to sleep where in the nest."
~•§•~
The ancient Shinigami watched the pan sizzle as he cooked a small meal quickly and fiddled with a device in his hands. If the Harpy was so keen to be a data point in this study, Hades wasn't going to argue. It unsettled him that several of the students were showing signs of desperation and of performing desperate acts to get the soft and coveted Human's attention.
Who knows what the next desperate action will be or how far it will go.
"Lord Hades?"
"Yes, Child?"
The Shinigami turned his head towards the Yeti who had been present for the fallout of the Harpy and had been a rather helpful aide when it came to restraining the other students. Had they all tried to help and not been held back by the Ape-man, they likely would have all Overblotted or worse given the situation at hand. He at least lived up to his reputation of being calm under pressure and having a good grasp on dangerous situations.
"That much blot should have killed her."
"I know, Child. That much blot would have killed all of them had it gotten a hold on them."
"I know that potion. Poachers use it to infest their prey to claim they were 'putting down a Feral' instead of illegally harvesting parts from a non Feral. It never ends well for those who use it. Ever."
"I am familiar with the potion as well."
This only made Clay's frown deepen. He had seen entire poaching encampments turned Feral due to that specific potion and he had seen the way it acted like a blight on any magical being. How it moved from body to body, infesting and possessing anything it touched.
"Why didn't it kill her?"
"I have several theories. Humans are not magical, so they have next to no accumulation of blot as they go through life. Blot is a byproduct of magic, and without magic, Humans don't form blot but are susceptible to those who have turned Feral. My own Humans had very little interaction with Ferals by design. Though I knew they were blot resistant, I did not know the extent of their blot related abilities."
"So you don't know?"
"I don't know for certain, no. She has shown an incredible ability to neutralize blot and even attract blot towards her, as shown by the potion itself choosing to abandon it's prize of young Vil and anchor itself to her instead where it could have just taken them both."
The Shinigami turned towards Clay, moving the pan off of the heat to let it and the food he was cooking rest. The monitoring collar he was fiddling with coming to life in his hands as he adjusted it.
"I have a theory that Humans are natural blot absorbers and neutralizers. They likely developed this and their addictive nature by evolving hand in hand with magic using species. Humans needed protection from magical species so they developed a way to be needed and helpful to those that protected them. The magical species create blot, and the Humans absorb it, creating a symbiotic relationship. Perhaps it is this blot absorption that led to Humans being so addictive as they relieve the negative impact of blot, which all magical species have."
"It would make sense... To have blot creators and blot neutralizers. But still, this rampant almost infectious attraction and obsession doesn't really fit..."
"That is why it must be studied. There is the potential that Little (Y/n) is a fluke among Humans with an unnatural resistance to blot. The only thing that I know for certain is the data that has been gathered. Humans are addictive, thousands of years worth of research has proven that as fact. This blot absorption is a new development, and with only one Human as the sample size, it can't be asserted that (Y/n) isn't the only blot neutralizer."
The Yeti crossed his arms, deep in thought. It made sense from a scientific view. No science was perfect and with the sample size being a grand total of one, there was always room for misinterpretation. Even still, there was more than just the science to be considered.
"She deserves to know."
"Hm?"
"(Y/n) deserves to be told of her addictive qualities. If not for the sake of others, than for her own sake so she can protect herself. If everyone is going to have some kind of obsession- deadly or not- she deserves to know about it."
"... I know. I have considered broaching the topic many times before, yet have found myself struggling to find the right words to tell her."
"Why?"
"Because," the Shinigami sighed, running his fingers through his flame hair, "Humans are delicate compared to us. Physically they could be a credible threat to other species, especially when their young were put in harm's way, but emotionally they put more value into how others viewed them. It makes sense, they were at the whims of others for an extended period of time and are an incredibly social species as a whole, but that does mean they are more delicate to the emotional impact they have on others. Little (Y/n) in particular seems mostly aware of her impact on the others, but I worry what guilt she will feel when she learns the truth."
Clay nodded at this, having seen his own fair share of just how impactful the affectionate Human was on the wellbeing of those around her. From the guards that flocked to her, to the students that stared whenever she passed by, she impacted everyone she interacted with. He had also noticed his own growing attachment to the kind little Human that so innocently looked to him for instruction.
"Young Vil and Little (Y/n) are likely hungry with the blot still in their systems, they need food before they rest."
Clay dropped the subject as the elder Shinigami split the ample and warm food into two servings, turning to leave. He paused for just a moment at the threshold of the door to speak to the Yeti with an even and measured tone.
"I will broach the subject when I feel it is right, but trust that I will do it. For now, I ask you keep our conversation to yourself. She doesn't need such stress so soon after an event like this one, alright?"
"... I understand."
~•§•~
Rook was almost vibrating with how thrilled he was, settled down in the nest with his boon companion laying against his side. Vil had his long tail tucked and curled under his legs as he himself had taken an almost fetal position up against the side of the Drider. You were sitting close by, petting a sore and less than pleased Grim who demanded cuddles when he realized you were back.
The storm outside had quieted somewhat, as Malleus had managed to calm himself despite not liking the two outsiders laying in your nest. Silver was already back to sleep, Sebek laying against his side but still warily observing the Harpy and Drider duo in the nest. Though the Dragon was displeased with the interlopers, he was more relieved that you were alright. He didn't overlook the staining you had on your skin, seeing the darker tints around your eyes and lips where the blot had forced itself into you.
"Are you certain you are alright, (Y/n)?"
"Yes, Tsuno, I'm okay. I promise. If I wasn't, we wouldn't be having this conversation. I appreciate that you care so deeply about me and want to make sure I'm alright, but I promise you I am okay."
"..."
The Dragon continued to frown as a light knock sounded from the door. It slowly opened to reveal the large Shinigami with two steaming bowls of food and you couldn't help but smile at him. At least Papa Hades was present and could help care for you and Vil after the impact of the disastrous potion the Harpy had created.
"Here you are, Little One. Eat up and get some rest, you and Young Vil are no doubt exhausted by the evenings events."
You happily accepted the bowl of warm food, Grim taking several long sniffs towards your meal as you pet his forehead. His little nose wiggled and you were content to give the sore kit bites from your bowl. Vil seemed much more hesitant to take the food offered, seeming as if he were close to crying despite the kind gesture.
"Vil?"
"... I don't deserve it."
Your smile fell and you sighed, having seen similar remorseful driven behavior from Riddle and Alistair following their Overblots. He was likely going to need an encouraging hand if he was going to accept the meal offered. At least his behavior showed he was regretting his actions that drove him to his current state.
"Yes, you do. Eat, or you will regret it tomorrow."
"... (Y/n), I almost killed you with my actions. I could have killed myself as well. I don't deserve accolades or kindness after my actions."
A beat of silence passed as you handed the bowl off to a confused Lilia, handing Grim to Malleus. Vil seemed confused by your actions as you moved through the nest to his side, grabbing the second bowl from the elder Shinigami. Using the provided spoon, you scooped up some of the food and looked at Vil expectantly, holding the spoon up to him.
"(Y/n), I-"
"If your next actions are not eating and saying 'thank you' to Papa Hades, I'm not going to listen or entertain any further complaints. You will eat. You will be thankful someone took the time to make you food. You will accept that I am not angry with you. And above all else, you will forgive yourself for your own misguided actions. If I have to sit here and feed you myself, I will."
Vil was silent for another long moment, but his stomach spoke for him with an impatient growl as he could smell the warm food you held. With a certain hesitance to his movements and very much like a baby bird, he let you feed him that first spoonful. You didn't have to feed him the rest as that one bite triggered his obvious hunger and he happily took the bowl from you.
Once Vil was eating his fair share you gently pet his head, making the Harpy let out a gentle cooing noise at the affection. Lilia returned your bowl to you and you proceeded to follow the Harpy's example, pausing to give the occasional piece to Grim. Papa Hades seemed pleased with the both of you eating and nodded, resting on the edge of the nest to wait until you both had finished your impromptu meals.
"Young Vil, given the... events... that took place, I would rather you join the current study I am overseeing. It is on blot and how Little (Y/n) affects blot in other species. It will require you wear this monitor on your neck so we can get vitals and a fairly accurate measurement of blot remaining inside of you. Is that amenable to you?"
"Yes. I... am still mortified that I even considered Overblotting in the first place, but I understand now how lucky I truly am (Y/n) intervened when she did. It would be meaningless to deny my own participation in your research given my misguided actions."
Vil moved towards you, Papa Hades taking both bowls away and setting them to the side as he held up what looked like the same collars Riddle and Alistair wore. The Harpy held up his hair to allow the elder Shinigami to place the device around his neck, shivering from the cold touch. It clicked in place and seemed to not bother the Harpy too much despite the way it sat on his neck feathers.
"The both of you, get some rest. You have had an eventful night and tomorrow will be more rest and testing. I wish you all a pleasant evening."
"Goodnight, Papa Hades."
The elder chucked at this, smiling warmly at you.
"Goodnight, Little One."
With that, he left the room and closed the door behind him so you and your company could get some rest. Vil seemed much more at peace as he returned to Rook's side, the Drider placing pillows against his abdomen for the Harpy to rest comfortably on him. You settled down with Grim, noticing the way Malleus kept his back to the outside of the nest before pulling you under his wing so he could keep an eye on you.
As the room settled down, Lilia turned out the lights and a tentative calm washed over your group. Rook, Sebek, and Grim were quick to drift off, comfortable among the others in the nest and trusting their company wholeheartedly. You, Lilia, Malleus and Vil still clung to some awareness instead of succumbing fully to sleep.
Though you fought to cling to consciousness, you were quickly pulled into the embrace of rest. Malleus and Lilia both wanted to stay awake and keep an eye on the nest given their own anxieties with the situation. As they were both nocturnal Fae, they were less affected by the siren song of sleep than the others were.
Vil was just trying to process all that had happened. Though it was all orchestrated by him, he still had to come to terms with the memories that had been dredged up from the darker corners of his mind. Your forgiveness was a soothing balm to his worrying mind as he contemplated the cruelty of his mother juxtaposed with your compassion.
Something odd happened with his hazy memories of his mother that the Harpy couldn't explain. Where he remembered crying and hiding from her under a rather sturdy table, sobbing as his father fought in a flurry of feathers for his safety, another figure had appeared. You were somehow in his childhood memory, holding him and soothing him after his mother had attacked him. Though he knew it wasn't possibly true, he still valued that odd change to his memories and cherished your comfort.
Perhaps something had happened to alter his memories to a more soothing outcome when you took on his blot. Perhaps he rewrote his own memories to include someone soothing his distraught child self. All he knew for certain was that you were a very calming and soothing presence that made his heart ache less when you were around.
Your presence comforted and relaxed him more than anything else could. Given the way he had lived his life up until that point, he considered it a miracle that he could find anyone he is willing to accept affection from. He even struggled to accept the endless praise Rook heaped on his shoulders, believing the Drider only focused on his outward appearance despite being his closest friend.
Maybe, just maybe, Vil could learn to love himself with your help. He still was going to try and win your heart despite everything, but he now had a clear way forward and into a better frame of mind. For now, that was all that truly mattered to him.

The night air was cool against your skin, sharp with the scent of pine and damp earth as you trailed behind Rook through the dense forest, like a duckling. Everything around you felt more vivid now — every sound, every movement.
Your senses, once dulled by mortality, were heightened in a way you hadn’t anticipated. The faintest rustle of leaves, the scurrying of small animals in the underbrush, the distant howl of wind; it was overwhelming, yet exhilarating for a newborn vampire like you. Even if weeks had passed by now, you were still getting used to things.
Rook moved ahead with effortless grace, his steps barely making a sound on the forest floor. His silhouette seemed to blend with the shadows, his pale skin gleaming faintly in the moonlight. You were still trying to adjust to your new body, your new existence, but Rook… he thrived in it. He had told you this would happen, that in time, you too would move like him, with the same effortless confidence.
Or, that like your brother, you could travel through the shadows. But for now, everything felt too raw, too sharp.
“How are you feeling, mon chouchou?” Rook’s voice floated back to you, soft but carrying an undercurrent of something predatory.
You swallowed hard, realizing that even that small sound was more audible than it used to be. “I’m… adjusting.” It was all you could manage, your voice shaky with a mixture of excitement and fear.
Rook turned, his smile a little too wide, a little too knowing. “It is natural to feel uneasy your first time. The instincts are there, but the mind… ah, it struggles to catch up, doesn’t it?”
You nodded, though it felt strange, your body wanted to move faster, your muscles already itching to chase after something, to feel the thrill of pursuit. Yet, your mind held back, still clinging to the remnants of who you once were - better yet, for who your parents told you you were, your memories missing as a part of your turning gone wrong.
A part of you was terrified of what you were about to become, but Vil and Rook had soothed you, they had explained that this was how things were, that you had to do it for survival.
Rook seemed to sense this hesitation. He stepped closer, his hand cold and firm as it cupped your cheek. His eyes glinted in the moonlight, a mix of excitement and hunger. “Mon cher, tonight is not just about feeding. It is about understanding who you are now and what you are capable of. This is your first hunt as a vampire. And I will guide you through it.”
The word vampire still felt foreign, even though you now embodied it. You had always known what your dad was, but to feel it in your own veins? That was something else entirely.
He let go of your cheek and turned, gesturing for you to follow. “Listen,” he said, his voice dropping to a low murmur. “Do you hear them?”
You strained your senses, your body instinctively following the direction of his gaze. And there it was — a soft murmur of voices, laughter carried on the breeze. Humans. Two of them, walking through the woods, unaware of the predators lurking nearby.
Your mouth went dry, your body tensing with a strange sort of anticipation. It was an unsettling feeling — both thrilling and horrifying at the same time. You had been like them once, just a short time ago. Now, they were prey.
Your mouth was so dry, though. And your teeth wanted to sink into something soft and wet.
Rook’s eyes flickered with something dark, something dangerous. “They are close. Do you feel the hunger, mon amour? The need to feed?”
You did. The hunger was gnawing at you, growing sharper with every breath you took. It was unlike anything you had ever experienced. You could almost hear the blood rushing through their veins, calling to you, tempting you. The sensation was overwhelming, and you found yourself gripping a tree for balance, your knees weakening under the weight of it.
Rook smiled, sensing your struggle. “It is beautiful, isn’t it? The power, the clarity. Do not be afraid to embrace it.” His voice was soothing, yet it contained a darkness that reminded you just how dangerous he really was.
How dangerous you were.
“I… I don’t know if I can do this,” you whispered, though the hunger made it hard to think clearly. The human part of you, what little remained, was horrified by what you were about to do.
Rook closed the distance between you, his hands resting on your shoulders. “Oh, but you can,” he whispered. “And you will. You are no longer bound by the rules of humanity. You are something more, now. Let me show you how freeing that can be.”
He stepped back, his gaze flickering toward the voices again. Without a word, he moved like a shadow through the trees, his footsteps silent, his posture relaxed. You followed him, trying to emulate his grace but still feeling awkward in your new form.
The humans were close now, their forms just visible through the trees. A young couple, somewhere between their 20s, laughing and joking, unaware of the danger that was so close. Rook stopped, turning to you with a glint in his eyes.
“Watch,” he said, his voice a mere breath. “I will go first. Then, it will be your turn.”
Before you could respond, Rook disappeared, slipping into the shadows so swiftly that it took your breath away. You watched, heart pounding, as he approached the couple with that same unsettling grace. For a moment, it almost looked like he was gliding.
Then, before the humans even had time to react, Rook struck.
It was fast — so fast that you barely saw it happen. One moment, the couple was whispering lewd things to each other, walking together, and the next, Rook was upon them, his fangs sinking into the man’s throat with an almost elegant precision. The woman barely had time to scream before she collapsed, unconscious, her body cradled by Rook’s arm as if she were a mere doll.
You stood frozen, torn between horror and awe. Rook fed with a calm, almost reverent expression, his eyes closed as if savoring the taste of the blood. When he finally pulled back, he looked at you, his lips stained red, his smile predatory.
“Your turn,” he said softly, stepping aside to reveal the unconscious woman.
The hunger inside you roared to life, more intense than ever. You took a step forward, your eyes locked on her fragile, vulnerable form. Your body screamed at you to feed, to give in to the hunger that had been clawing at you since the moment you turned.
But your mind held you back, that last shred of humanity whispering that this was wrong, that you shouldn’t do it.
Rook was beside you in an instant, his hand resting on your arm. “Do not fight it, mon trésor. This is who you are now. Let yourself feel the pleasure of the hunt, the satisfaction of the kill.”
Your breathing quickened as you knelt beside the woman, your hand trembling as you reached out to touch her neck. Her pulse was slow, weak, but steady. You could hear it, feel it, and the sound was almost hypnotic.
With a final glance at Rook, who watched you with a mixture of pride and anticipation, you lowered your head, baring your fangs.
And then, you fed.
