Reasons Why You Need to Be Well-Prepared for Roofing Emergencies
Roofing emergencies can happen anytime, often when you least expect them. Whether caused by storms, heavy rain, or falling debris, these emergencies can put your home and belongings at risk. Being well-prepared for such situations is not just wise—it’s essential. Here are key reasons why preparation can make all the difference.
Tumblr media
Minimizes Damage to Your Home
Leaks and falling shingles are examples of roofing emergencies that can swiftly develop into more serious issues like structural problems, mildew growth, and water damage. Being ready enables you to take quick action, minimizing the damage and shielding your house from additional danger.
Saves Money on Repairs
Repairs for emergencies can be expensive, particularly if delays cause the damage to worsen. Being prepared can assist you in addressing the problem early on and avoiding costly repairs for small issues. You can avoid paying for water damage restoration, for example, by keeping a tarp on hand to temporarily cover a damaged roof.
Ensures Safety for Your Family
Emergencies with roofing can result in dangerous situations like loose debris, exposed wiring, or water leaks. By being ready, you can swiftly secure the area and protect your family. By being aware of what to do and who to contact in these circumstances, accidents and injuries can be avoided.
Reduces Stress During Emergencies
A sudden roofing problem can be overwhelming, especially if you’re unprepared. Having a plan in place, like knowing the contact details of a reliable roof repair Miramar professional, gives you peace of mind. You’ll be able to respond confidently and avoid unnecessary panic.
Keeps Your Insurance Claims on Track
When submitting a claim for roofing damage, insurance companies frequently demand timely action and accurate evidence. Being ready enables you to snap pictures, record the damage, and get in touch with your insurance provider right away, which guarantees easier claims processing and quicker payout.
Protects Your Belongings
Damage to your roof can expose your house to the weather, endangering personal items like electronics and furnishings. By being ready, you can move valuables to secure locations or cover them while repairs are being made.
Speeds Up Repairs
You may avoid the time-consuming task of looking for a reliable roofing contractor in an emergency if you have already done your homework and selected one. This guarantees that your roof is fixed as soon as possible and expedites the repair procedure.
Roofing emergencies can be stressful, but being well-prepared can make them easier to manage. By planning ahead, you can minimize damage, save money, and keep your family safe. Preparation is the key to weathering roofing emergencies with confidence.

"Amsterdam’s roofs have just been converted into a giant sponge that will make the city more climate resilient.
The Dutch have always been famous for their ability to control water, born out of the necessity of their homeland, much of which is below sea level.
Now, their expert water management skills are transforming the city skyline in the capital city of Amsterdam from one of terracotta tile, concrete, and shingles into green grass and brown earth.
It’s part of a new climate-resiliency trend in architecture and civic planning known as the ‘sponge city concept,’ in which a garden of water-loving plants, mosses, and soil absorbs excess rainwater before feeding it into the building for use in flushing toilets or watering plants on the ground.
If heavy rains are predicted, a smart valve system empties the stored rainwater into the municipal storm drains and sewers in advance of the weather, allowing the roof to soak up water and reduce flooding in the city.
In this way, the rooftops of buildings can be wrung out and filled up just like a sponge.
In Amsterdam, 45,000 square meters, or 11 acres of flat metropolitan rooftops have already been fitted with these systems, and the contracting firms behind the technology say they make sense in dry climates like Spain just as much as in wet climates like Amsterdam...
A 4-year project of different firms and organizations called Resilio, the resilient network for smart climate adaptive rooftops, rolled out thousands of square meters of sponge city technology into new buildings. As with many climate technologies, the costs are high upfront but tend to result in savings from several expenditures like water utilities and water damage, over a long-enough time horizon...
All together, Amsterdam’s sponge capacity is over 120,000 gallons.
“We think the concept is applicable to many urban areas around the world,” Kasper Spaan from Waternet, Amsterdam’s public water management organization, told Wired Magazine. “In the south of Europe–Italy and Spain–where there are really drought-stressed areas, there’s new attention for rainwater catchment.”
Indeed the sponge city concept comes into a different shade when installed in drought-prone regions. Waters absorbed by rooftops during heavy rains can be used for municipal purposes to reduce pressure on underground aquifers or rivers, or be sweated out under the Sun’s rays which cools the interior of the building naturally.
Additionally, if solar panels were added on top of the rooftop garden, the evaporation would keep the panels cooler, which has been shown in other projects to improve their energy generation.
“Our philosophy in the end is not that on every roof, everything is possible,” says Spaan, “but that on every roof, something is possible.”
Matt Simon, reporting on the Resilio project for Wired, said succinctly that perhaps science fiction authors have missed the mark when it came to envisioning the city of the future, and that rather than being a glittering metropolis of glass, metal, and marble as smooth as a pannacotta, it will look an awful lot more like an enormous sculpture garden."

Emergency Roof Repair and Storm Cleanup Commissions
As mentioned in previous posts and pinned @anotherdayforchaosfay , we have just been through a natural disaster. Please read the pinned post on that blog. Updates will be added once we get outside and photograph the damage for our insurance claim.
I have opened commissions three months earlier than planned because we need to raise money to cover our insurance deductible as well as hiring someone to remove the tree from our roof and yard. The tree is owned by a lazy landlordlord who owns the property next door. We have told him repeatedly it needs to be trimmed or there will be damage. His property got a quick install sunroof.
I have four slots available across the board and prices start at $150 USD.
I have made the option of commissioning me for a quilt available. Three finished quilt tops are listed as commissions because they're ready for handquilting. Several people have inquired about one of the tops, so now's your chance to have it done sooner than later.
If you can do only a partial payment right now, DM me. I'll write up a contract for payments, and will require 50% upfront and weekly/monthly installs after that. You will then receive an invoice.
Commissions will begin immediately because we now have power.
I will close commissions when all slots are filled or June 1st, 2024. Whichever happens first (hopefully the former). If slots are filled, I will reopen them again after I finish all the commissions. I work fast and may complete six quilts netween now and then.
Donations are accepted, and there are four listings available in my shop with the option to pay more than my asking price (if you add an extra zero, I may very well cry).
Samples of my work below as well as in my gallery.

Hurricane Milton Resources, Emergency Contacts, and Recovery Assistance
Tumblr media
Hurricane Milton is making landfall in Florida, and residents across the state must prepare for the potential devastation it could bring. With forecasts predicting high winds, torrential rain, and widespread flooding, Hurricane Milton could leave communities struggling to rebuild.
Tumblr media

Power outages – Downed power lines will likely cause widespread outages. These outages may last days or weeks, leaving communities without access to essential services.
Tornadoes – Hurricane Milton’s powerful system could spawn tornadoes, particularly in the eastern parts of the state, causing additional destruction.

Hurricane Season Risks and Preparedness
Tumblr media
Florida’s hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30. Hurricane Milton is hitting just as the state braces for more potential storms. The danger doesn’t end when the hurricane passes. After a storm like Milton, communities are left vulnerable to future weather events. The risk of another hurricane striking Florida before Milton’s recovery remains high.
Weakening Infrastructure – After Milton, homes and businesses will be more susceptible to damage from weaker tropical storms or hurricanes. Unrepaired roofs and weakened structures could collapse or fail under minimal pressure.
Flooding Risks – Milton’s heavy rainfall and storm surge will saturate the ground and fill waterways. This will leave communities vulnerable to even small rain events, with the potential for additional flooding.
Power Restoration Delays – With Milton causing widespread outages, the power grid may remain unstable for weeks, making it difficult for residents to recover fully before the next storm hits.
Preparing for Future Storms – Residents must begin making plans now for the rest of hurricane season. Stock up on supplies, make sure your property is secure, and stay informed about future weather developments.
Additional Tips for Hurricane Preparedness
To ensure the safety of yourself and your loved ones, follow these guidelines when preparing for a Hurricane:
Evacuate if Ordered – Listen to local officials and immediately evacuate if you are in an evacuation zone. Delaying could put your life at risk.
youtube
Secure Your Property – Install hurricane shutters, trim trees, and secure outdoor items. Consider having your roof inspected by New Image Roofing before the storm hits.
Tumblr media
Prepare a Disaster Kit – Include essentials like water, food, medications, flashlights, batteries, and important documents.
Stay Informed – Official sources like FEMA, FDEM, and the National Weather Service offer updates and information.

Greetings!
I am curious, what happens to a character when they "die" in the battlefield? Like we know they don't actually die in a literal sense since we can still access them in the suitcase after the battle. But what do you think happens? Like what is the process?
My thoughts on how it works is like basketball. When a player gets injured heavily and cannot play anymore (like dying on the battlefield), then there is a timeout or foul and they are replaced by a player on the bench (or the 4th team member in their Udimo form). The injured player is immediately rushed for medical attention and the rest of team continues on without them.
For example, I remember a time when my sister was playing and Avgust passed away suddenly and Windsong came out of the suitcase from her Udimo form to replace him (he was quickly avenged). I also wonder what happens when a kid is injured like that. Will they rush them to Laplace like they did with Erick on her character anecdote (when she started losing conciousness and bleeding)? What would that scenario be like in Avgust's case?
Hello my friend!!
I feel like not only does it depend on the enemy but also the circumstances. Like, if you get defeated by a simple enemy that launches common arcane skills, it's not as dangerous and can be treated with simple healing spells.
I'll get into details after.
As for how, yeah it might be as simple as that, for us and the enemy. If we're going with the "arcanists randomly appear to kick ass" we can assume that when one gets injured or unable to fight anymore (due to whatever circumstances), another selected arcanist walks out to take their place while the other is escorted inside for treatment.
Same with our enemy because, as a common saying here goes: "Lo que es bueno pal pavo es bueno pa la pava" (it means if a thing applies to a certain group or person, it's valid to apply it to another group or person)
So you have to wait for your enemy to be carried away and replaced by another enemy, it's only fair.
I believe there's a small fear over sending young arcanists outside due to their arcanum and resistance. If someone like August were to get hurt by an ultimate, they'd have to carry him to the foundation for his safety and health. The foundation can provide a more thorough examination for the injured arcanists and the more gravely damaged, especially children who are under Tooth Fairy's jurisdiction.
The damage also depends on if it was an ultimate or if it was a normal attack, and also the type of enemy. A boss defeating your ally with an ultimate can and will get them to an emergency room unless they're known for applying shield or high resistance skills which may minimize, but not eliminate, all damage.
Kakania, Ezra and Eternity who damage themselves during attacks may receive a different treatment due to constant injuries. Semmelweis doesn't count as her body is different from a normal arcanist's, she might need to drink blood even if she's reluctant or doesn't want to.
Kids are less sent outside to fight unless the enemy doesn't cause as much damage.
And I haven't read Erick's anecdote 😓
In a more specific Avgust case, it's definitely a formal friend or Windsong (Vila doesn't cast any attack incantation so I'm not counting her) who takes his place and also helps the team carry him. If Vila is in the team, she has a harder time staying put so she applies health incantations almost immediately so Avgust can rush to Tooth Fairy (or in a more serious case, Laplace) with less pain. If she's not, you bet your life she's carrying that kid through the halls like a mad woman.

After I finish the skull mini quilts, I'll be cleaning up my sewing room in preparation for panel quilts. November 1st, the commission options will be reduced to pins/magnets, pine tree wallhangings, and rag quilts. December 1st, commissions will be closed until Spring 2025, probably in April or May.
If you want to commission me, now is the time to do it.
The pins I make can serve as "ornaments" on the pine tree wallhangings. The pine trees are perfect for displaying your own pin collection, as well. It's what I use my own for. You can also sew favorite buttons on there for much the same purpose.
Tumblr media
Rag quilts are a fun and quick type of quilt I can make on a lower budget because all the quilting is done during the sewing part. They're three layers of fabric, minimal piecing, made using large pieces, and have a good amount of weight to them. If you live in a cold area, or want to get a quilt for someone living in a colder region, three layers of flannel are an excellent option. They can be made with quilting cotton as well, which is heavier than flannel, but costs twice as much. Here's one rag quilt I've made. The reason I don't keep them in stock is due to their bulk and my extreme lack of storage space.
These are the same quilt, flipped over. The exposed edges are why it's called a rag quilt.
