you can pry happy endings from my cold-dead hands. It can be the most heart stopping, gut wrenching fic that has every existed and I will read every drop of it if I get my happy ending. I have had enough painful endings in real life, give me happy in my fantasy world. It can be at the last second, it can be a single sentence, even a single word. Give me all the angst and hurt in the world for 500,000 words, but please give me the comfort I need in the ending. please and thank you.

the last few days have been full of absolutely stunning works i’m still gearing up to share with you guys, but i’m gonna start here.

i love this so so much. first of all - LET STEVE AND EDDIE GROW OLD TOGETHER AGENDA!!! i was just incredibly happy to see them in their thirties, more or less settled in their lives, matured and distanced from the adrenaline rush of the upside down. and i really love how they finally meet each other, where they work, all of it.

i love how the relationships in this fic (even besides steddie) are so deep and caring while simultaneously being somewhat awkward and complicated at times. i love how steve and robin interact, i love how steve and dustin interact: obviously loving each other to bits, but with some rough stumbling to it sometimes, the way they relationships morphed and adjusted with them not living in each others’ back pockets anymore, but, fundamentally, stayed the same. i, unfortunately, struggle to write relationships this way: i use writing (and reading, duh) primarily for escapism, so i always want to give my characters the easy and perfect relationship i myself crave, because god knows i have a lot of deeply meaningful but messy and complicated stuff going on in my own life. but boy do i love to see authors who can pull it off so well.

and this was pulled off exceptionally well in case of steddie here. i adore everything about the way steddie’s relationship started and progressed here. i love the mundanity of it all, the way they found each other and connected in this little snippets of everyday routine before anything else came along. i love the way it seems like they really were destined to end up together, with their matching scars and past, with always searching for things in past partners that only they could give to each other, but that doesn’t mean it has to be some grandiose out-of-this-world thing to be meaningful and special.

i also really love both steve’s and eddie’s characterizations in this fic, their past experiences growing up, their outlook on relationships, themselves and each other, their priorities and grievances and feelings. i can so easily imagine them growing up to fit into this picture the author created and it makes me feel all sorts of things.

i would like to express my deepest gratitude to @emryses for creating this beautiful story, it tied me up in all sorts of knots but then untied me out of them better and more settled than before. i REALLY loved this and i think y’all would love it too, so am recommending, 983624538449576675829126599479/10.

Hold the Line pt 6.

They set up the basement into a battle station. Eddie hasn't left her side. He's been murmering sentiments the entire time she's discussed her thoughts. Her headache is brewing and she can't even see the light anymore.

"Alright I think that's enough for today." Steve crosses the room and wraps an arm around her. "Time for a break."

"Oh yeah? What kind of break?"

Eddie gets a wicked grin on his face. "Arcade."

There's shouts of agreement until Lydia says "Bowling?" The room erupts in cheers.

"Good idea munchkin." He sends a sweet smile her way. "Well you heard our time traveler! To the vehicles!" The kids start whooping while running outside.

"He's really great isn't he?" Lydia watches as Eddie bowls a perfect strike but falls over his feet as he does it. He falls down but lifts his head to look at Steve and Lydia. He gives them a small wave smiling bashfully.

"Yeah he is." Steve says it with a dumb smile on his face. His voice sounds like pure sugar.

"Oh my god! You like him!" Lydia grabs his arms excitedly.

"No!" Steve tries to deny. "I just- think he's neat."

Lydia's face is deadpanned. "Sure pal."

"Oh god!" Steve drags his hands over his face. "You hate me don't you. I'm hitting on your dad. Oh that sounds so gross. I just- I mean- look at him!" He points at Eddie. Eddie currently has nacho cheese around his face and is making weird noises at Dustin.

"He's a loser." Lydia states.

"Yeah~" Steve has a stupid smile on his face.

"God this is amazing. I thought this would end worse."

"What?"

Lydia looks at him with an inquisitive stare. "Can I talk to you alone?"

"Um well-"

"Please?"

They walk over to the bathrooms, Lydia pulls him into a family stall and they sit on the horribly patterned tile.

"Oh man I have had one of these kind of talks in awhile." Steve stated. Stretching his arms above his head.

"Huh?"

"Well Rob and I-"

"My Aunt Robin?"

"Yeah- hey why do you call her Aunt? Is everyone an aunt or an uncle? What do you call me?"

Lydia starts to tear up a little.

"I call you dad."

Steve turns a bit pale. "What?" He asks. He sounds almost hopeful.

Lydia hides behind her knees, tucked in so tight she looks like a ball. "That's what I had to talk to you about...I'm your daughter."

His breath hitches.

"What."

"We're not getting anywhere with this let me explain. I'm your biological daughter." Her head snaps up, gaze sharp. "I was born out of love, that's what you'd tell me. You wanted a family so bad you made your own. You, me,...Eddie"

"Oh my god."

"...yeah...and Robin technically. It was insane that she carried me for 9 months and then her and Nancy raised me."

"WHAT!"

"Well they didn't get together until after..."

"After what?"

"After...you died."

"Oh. So it's me then."

"Yeah. I'd do anything for you you know?"

Steve grabs her arms, pulling her into him. She's snuffling into his shoulder.

"How old w-"

"I was five."

"You...grew up without me. I missed it all. I missed your wedding oh my god."

"Hey...so did I." She shrugs and Steve shoves her a little.

"Quit it."

"Well it's true! Plus I know it's not your fault. It's what had to be done. I...I know you loved me."

Steve can't stop the tears streaming from his face. "It'll be different now. I won't leave you. Ever again."

They stay bundled together for awhile until there's a knock on the door. Eddie peeks his head in.

"You guys ok? The kids are ready to leave."

"Yeah, yeah." Lydia pushes herself up and walks past Eddie. "Let's go."

Eddie peers at Steve on the floor a confused wrinkle between his eyebrows. "You ok Harrington?"

Steve looks like he's glowing. "Yeah." His smile is so bright. When Eddie turns to leave he shouts at him. "So, me and you huh?"

Eddie freezes and pivots around again to face him. He matches his look with a glowing smile of his own. "Yeah...me and you sweetheart."

Summary: The Fruity Four have plans to travel to a metal show for the weekend. However, plans change once the group realizes that Robin is too sick to go. Nancy stays behind with their dog, Scoops, to help nurse her girlfriend back to health.

If you are looking for a story with more Steddie than Ronance, sorry! This is a Ronance driven story but it does have some Steddie.

“Hey, Robs.”

Robin groans as she wakes up; Nancy gently tapping her shoulder. 

Pulling the blanket over her head, she squints at the time. 

“Nance, isn’t this a little earlier than necessary?”

“I know. I’m making coffee for us”

At that, Robin shoots her a sleepy grin and opens her eyes fully.

Nancy leaves her to begin the ordeal of getting dressed– turns out, according to Hopper, it was not a good idea to wander through the toxic air of the Upside Down without better protection. 

Sitting there in a tank top and boxers, Robin takes a moment to trace the scars that litter her body. A year on into the whole Upside Down invasion of Hawkins thing, there are quite a few. 

Since then, survivors have been taking jobs. Her and Nancy were placed on a patrol shift. It’s riskier compared to most of the other jobs, but the creatures of the Upside Down started staying away once they realized there were about five million new fun and creative ways dreamed up for them to die. 

Besides, it means a little bit of breathing room from the confines of the walls, and more time to talk with Nancy without the government breathing down their necks. 

Tucking her sweater into her (thick, made of weird material, government approved) pants before donning her protective jacket and gloves, Robin squints at herself in the mirror. 

Her hair is shorter now, clipped with the excuse of practicality so that the government doesn’t pull a McCarthy and kick her out for supposed suspicious behavior. It’s a little messy, but everyone is less put together with the whole end of the world thing going on.

Her bandana and visor will hide the freckles. Nancy said she likes them. Of course, it’s not like they will be out on patrol the whole day. Just a few hours.

She fiddles with her belt buckle for a minute, fluffing up her hair a bit more before stepping out into the kitchen of her and Nancy’s apartment. The government tried to put everyone near people they knew, and as legal adults they got their own. 

It was one of the new ones set up, fortified against the acidic air. They’re right by the Byers-Hopper arrangements and the Wheeler one as well. Max, Lucas, Dustin, and Steve aren’t too far away, either. 

The close proximity of the people who really do care about her helped to deal with the fact that her mom pretty much ditched her. That was hard. Still is, and it makes Robin wonder if she just wasn’t good enough to be loved. 

But she has people by her side now. The kids, Steve, and Nancy. Even Joyce and Karen seem to have taken a liking to her, and while Hopper still eyes her grumpily, the distaste for one another is at least mutual. 

Besides, the living situation has been especially nice since her and Nance started dating 6 months ago.
