Countess Clarimonde is one of my many Halloween costume characters. This menacingly elegant vampire lady is based on the titular character from Theophile Gautier's short story written in 1908. In this tale, a young man studying to become a priest is drawn off his expected path by a thrilling relationship with an impossibly beautiful and mysterious woman named Clarimonde. This lady has a sinister secret as to why she goes through cycles of nearly fatal illness followed by vibrant good health. She is a vampire draining the blood and energy of her paramour!
