I remember the first time Dean and Sam came into my room after I moved into the bunker. It was after they got back from a really rough and draining hunt. Even Cas said it was a bad hunt. It was like everything that could go wrong, did, and if Castiel wasn’t there, one of them wouldn’t have made it back but no one told me who. I didn’t ask either.

That night I fell asleep in my room after dinner, after offering to try to support or reassure the brothers as well as Castiel as much as I could, everyone was just drained. I was the last to go to bed, actually, or at least to my room. I think Dean saw me pass by his door since the hall light is always on, even dimly, and waited. I’m speculating. All I know is about 20 or 30 minutes later, after I plugged in my phone and silenced it, dressed down to a comfy shirt and panties, and had turned off my lamp�� to sleep. I think I was dozing when I felt my bed shift. I tensed and turned ready to attack when I smelled Dean’s shampoo when made me pause, “Dean?”

He nervously chuckled.

“Are you ok, Sweetie?” I remember asking, concerned, and scooted over then pulled the covers back—I slept with an extra comforter since sleeping in socks and pants made me sweat half the time which is not fun to wake in (Ew). “Get in,” I gently instructed and patted the bed as audibly as I could.

Dean didn’t say anything. He just followed the instruction and wrapped his arms around my shoulders.

I shifted to reciprocate the hug and rubbed circles into his with one hand while pressing with the other, “I got you. I got you.” I guided him to lay down, his arm moved to wrapping around my ribs, and shifted up closer to the headboard so I could be the “big spoon”. I held him while continuing to rub circles in his back. After a little while, he seemed to relax and I changed to carding my fingers through his hair—I think he kind of melted when I did that; he relaxed incredibly more.

What’s sad-funny is Sam had the same idea about an hour after I turned off my light. I was still awake wanting to make sure Dean actually slept before I did. I chuckled when Sam opened my door and whispered loudly as I scooted towards Dean who proceeded to lay partially on my chest, “Hate to tell you but not the first one. I do have room if you don’t mind sharing.” I moved the covers on the other side and patted audibly. Sam slid in and wrapped his arm around my waist while Dean had an arm around my ribs.

I put my arm behind Sam’s neck and carded through his hair as well—I don’t know anyone with medium or long hair that don’t like their hair played with. I just did the same thing on both sides and enjoyed feeling them relax against me.

It shows how difficult the case was that they both needed comfort and what I found a little while later is they ended up holding hands in their sleep. When I finally realized they were both fully asleep, I prayed to Castiel asking if he’d watch over the brothers to make sure they did t have bad dreams if possible and he was welcome to sit at my desk if he’d like.

As I began to doze off, I heard my desk chair scoot back and Castiel quietly staying, “I will watch over you all tonight.”

I smiled and whispered back, “Thanks, Castiel.”

“You’re welcome.”

Nightmares and Longing

So, I don’t always share someone’s bed. I like having that option no matter how much I love affection and cuddles. Sometimes, you just need your own space which everyone is ok with.

After a rough hunt, I awoke from a nightmare in my room to alone. This isn’t abnormal but everyone was just so tired, I didn’t want to intrude on anyone’s space. I mean Castiel does on Dean’s and he is okay with that. I felt really unsure when I woke up and just craved Dean. It was such an odd feeling in the sense that my skin felt so tight and I instantly knew Dean is what I needed to feel better except I didn’t act on it.

I tried to ignore it and get my stuffies on the bed to make my bed cozier. I cuddled them and even put on my comfy jacket.

Nothing helped. Nothing.

I could not shake the emotions from the nightmare or the ones it caused. I gave up, just laid down with them (like you’re supposed to) and stuffed my face into my big soft (squishmallow)Stitch where I cried silently . I hate nightmares they always make you feel guilty or ashamed or even just scared that things are about to go to shit.

My brain kept showing me how everyone was gonna leave and that Dean was truly only happy with Castiel which didn’t actually bother me. What bothered me was the loss of them, the loss of connection, potentially just being ghosted and/or asked to leave the bunker. This is my home. I literally have nowhere to go and how can anyone compare to Castiel, an Angel of the Lord with his giant beautiful wings of iridescent black.

I was stuck in my head, hood blocking my view, and didn’t even realize anyone had come into my room, let alone the door opened, until Dean put his hand on my arm and said my name. I looked up in surprise, wide eyed and my lips parted in a quiet gasp.

The door was still open and I saw Castiel, the one my nightmare was comparing me to, standing outside it with his partially-shadowed face with a furrowed brow of concern. I looked back to Dean confused. I sniffled, “Did I wake you?”

“You prayed to me,” Castiel replied quietly as he stepped in and closed the door.

“I’m sorry I disturbed you. I-I-“

He smiled as he approached, “You pray to me nearly every night, much like Dean.”

I could feel my cheeks heating up into a blush I hoped no one noticed in the dark. I hadn’t realize that.

I tend to dream of fun and weird adventures that involve Castiel and the brothers. They’re my best friends and we all get along great. They tend to devolve into sex dreams about a third of the time but hopefully they don’t know that. >.>

He continued, “It was your longing for Dean that disturbed me, Sweet pea.”

My eyebrows hit my hairline with that knowledge—I’d forgotten he could feel that—and eyes widened at the endearment. Surprised he remembered.

I had mentioned it years ago, approximately a decade ago, to Castiel on the first anniversary of my Mother ‘s passing what she would call me and how there have been times I had wished someone would call me those few names but it’s such a silly thing that I never told anyone else but him.

I looked at Dean who was focused on the Angel.

I opened my mouth to reply but Castiel continued, “Normally, your longings tend to be rather brief. I’ve found it delightful when you want something you go for it. I enjoy that about you.”

Of course, I blushed again. My face was so hot with embarrassment. I have no idea how to take any compliment. I normally deflect them but this didn’t seem the time.

“What was bothersome,” he began, as he came around and sat at the foot of my bed, “was that you didn’t pursue Dean’s comfort like you desired.”

“He was asleep,” I sniffled as I defended my actions despite knowing he is right.

“Up until the last month, you have always just come in and asked to cuddle or be cuddled even when Dean has slept and I was there. I thought it would have been obvious neither of us minded.”

“Yep,” Dean agreed looking down at me. “What happened, Sweetheart?”

I looked up at Dean then quick to Castiel, flustered.

“I know how bad your nightmares can get. You’re always welcome to come get any of us or all of us,” Dean reminded me. “I know Sam agrees too.”

I sighed, heavily, and looked at my fingers as they tugged and wrapped in the wrist cuffs of my jacket then out, only to repeat. “I-“ shaking my head and shrugged, “I don’t know.” I looked up at Castiel, “I guess it’s because you moved in and I realized you moved in, so I…didn’t want to interrupt you two.”

I’m have no idea what I look like but I know I look awful with me having been crying and now on the verge of crying again. It just felt like this was confirming what my nightmare was telling me: this was going to end very soon and it would be my own fault.

Castiel put his hand on my blanket covered foot and gently squeezed.

I didn’t look at them. It was so hard just to listen and I was so tired.

“Do you want to be here?” Dean asked as gently as he could.

I instantly looked up, my face full of surprise and fear, “Yes, of course.” I shook my head vigorously, “Of course, I just…as weird as it may seem, I sometimes don’t do well with change, you know that Dean…even when I encourage it.” I spoke those last words quietly, embarrassed. I felt like a hypocrite. I love these two people.

I’m pretty sure I might be falling for the Angel but I pushed that aside as quickly as possible to ignore. Back behind the wall where I don’t have to deal with that any time soon.

“It just…seemed…petty,” I admitted with my eyes back on my fidgeting hands. I quickly grabbed my big, fluffy stitch and hugged him resting my chin on them as I tried so hard not to cry.

“Scoot over,” commanded Dean.

I obeyed, still sitting up, before I understood his words fully and scooted to the middle of my bed.

Dean quickly got under the blanket, on his side looking at me, and placed his arm over my waist with a small smile that reached his moss green eyes.

Castiel climbed into the other side of my bed, also on his side, and laced our fingers together., “It’s ok to disturb us when you need us especially for nightmares.”

“Yeah, especially for nightmares.” He raised his hand and held my cheek in his palm and I leaned into it, soothed. “You have helped me so many times whenever I had a nightmare, Sweetness.”

I turned my lips into his palm trying to hide my sad delight at the pet name.

It’s one he used to use in bed when it was just us, only us at the beginning. He said it was because of how kind, compassionate, and good I was he called me that.

Tears fell down my face causing me to close them as I moved away from his hand.

Castiel quickly sat up to wrap his arms around my shoulders and leaned his forehead on my shoulder as if to hide his face from me to help me not feel so witnessed.

Dean didn’t let me and sat up holding my chin trying to force me to look at him. “Look at me, Y/N.”

It took me a few seconds and a deep breath before I opened them peering into his dark eyes. He wiped away a tear with his thumb, “I love you, Y/N. That has never changed. I don’t want you to go anywhere, ever. I want to protect you and keep you safe. I want you here with me and Cas and Sam, okay?”

I nod slightly in confirmation.

“I need you to use your voice, Y/N,” he instructed.

“Yes,” I croaked. I swallowed before continuing, “Yes, I understand. I-I love you too, Dean.” I smiled, “And Cas and Sam.” I leaned my head on Casttiel’s against my shoulder. “Thank you,” I whispered.

“You wake me up if you need me from here on out, got it?” He told me firmly.

“Yes, Dean,” I replied with a sniffle.

He leaned over with a smile and laid a chaste kiss on my lips, holding it there for a few extra seconds.

I melted with a smile on my lips against his. My heart fluttered for a moment. I love his kisses, all the different ones.

Castiel lifted his head and kissed into my hair, “Shall we sleep?”

I looked at him with my dopey grin and nodded. “Will you watch over us?” I asked.

I secretly love when he says he will: it’s not only comforting but when he does, his wings spread out to their full size as if acting like a barrier between all the bad and us.

“Of course, Y/N. I will watch over both of you.” He wrapped us in his wings; even though, I can’t feel them. I could feel a weight, I guess. I feel something that I can’t describe, okay? It’s soothing is the point. I love it when the beautiful Seraph does this.

Knowing you’re protected and wanted is a huge deal to me. I guess I just need reminders of that.
