A poem by Prince Vladimir Pavlovich Paley in French, written on 29th June 1913 in Oranien Hof, Kreuznach, signed with "Bodya" and, as it says, ordered by his father, Grand Duke Pavel Alexandrovich on his name day. While the poem itself is in French, date, place & signature are in Russian. I already translated that part, so here is the poem:
A day among many others,
A little liver, a little enthusiasm
Like that, flour rounded off this quatrain
Our little sorrows and yours....

“O brightly beaming Northern star,
Thou hadst an early fall;
Scarce had we seen thy rays afar,
Till covered with death's pall.
So young, so great, so beautiful,
It was a cruel blow, --
Thy cup of earthly bliss was full--
Then in the dust dashed low.
To Heaven's inscrutable decrees,
It fits us all to bow,
Who sometimes fells the aged trees--
Now lops the sapling bough.
O mighty Monarch, in thy grief
England condoles with thee,
And mourns thy daughter's span so brief,
Upon her dark blue sea.
Such is the fate of high and low,
Short, short life's torches burn,
Thou wilt unto thy Daughter go,
But she will ne'er return.”

The Masks They Wear
Names like jewellery - the Black Widow
Tumblr media
She carries a collection of names and faces in her purse, and checks her reflection in passing widows: Today, is she 'Natalie' or 'Nicole', or 'Natasha'?
Revision - Captain America

He was shocked when he saw how his legend has changed, twisted to fit the times. Good thing the serum made him a fast study.
Building masks - Tony "Iron Man" Stark
Tumblr media
He has shown a mask since he was a child, growing to match its curves until he forgot his own face. Now, he'll shape his mask from metal.

flowers thinking
The flowers outside my window are thinking about
The doom and gloom in the air
As they know fall is getting closer
As their death is coming closer and closer every day
As they know they won’t picked from meadows
By gleeful peasant children wanting a break from chores
By me and my sisters in the springtime wanting to decorate
The palace as winter falls away from the page
to show another paragraph of words we must learn
The flowers are thinking about springtime
When they can finally burst from underground
To reveal to the world their rainbows of color
that will only be seen for a couple of months
But loved and cared for by those who spotted them
In the grass, by those who wandered away from what they were doing before
They spotted off in the distance, the flower’s colors glowing in the air
As if to lure someone to pick them, to take them home
To place gently as if a child in a vase filled to the brim with water.

Beautiful and charming, Olga von Pistolkors was a remarkable character in Saint Petersburg's aristocratic circles during the last years of the reign of Alexander III. Her position in society was probably strengthened by the fact that her husband became aide de camp of the most influential of the tsar's brothers, Grand Duke Vladimir Alexandrovich. She also became an acquaintance of the shy Tsarevich Nicholas Alexandrovich and some of his closest friends, who nicknamed her Lyolya ("Little Olga").
Around 1893, the gracious Madame von Pistolkors fell in love with Nicholas' uncle Paul, who happened to be the commander of her husband's regiment and was a frequent visitor to the von Pistolkors house in Saint Petersburg and their dacha in Krasnoe Selo. In August that year, Olga wrote a poem for him in which she stated, "From now on, my life is filled by you..."
Paul and Lyolya became emotionally involved. It seems at first he was a bit reluctant and felt quite uneasy due to his position as Erik's superior, despite the evidence that the relationship between Olga and her husband was already over. He may have also been concerned about his own family. Even though Alexander III passed away in 1894, his son and heir Nicholas II seemed to have views as conservative as his father's concerning such matters; but love was to win. Paul, deeply and sincerely in love with the beautiful lady, soon gave up and they began a passionate relationship.
The affair between Paul Alexandrovich and Olga Valerianovna quickly became a subject for gossip in both the army and the aristocratic circles of Saint Petersburg. Such episodes were not rare in the frivolous Russian high society of those days, but what could have been only a temporary liaison turned out to be a long-lasting, passionate love story.

August Reads
Cress & Winter • Marissa Meyer | it was Trying Times and for some reason Lunar Chronicles is one of my go to escapes and comforts turns out. I really wanted to reread Cress but got sucked in and had to do Winter too. Still as good as the first time. Deeply near and dear to my heart.
The Talented Mrs Mandelbaum • Margalit Fox | new non fiction about a Victorian crime boss lady and her band of thieves and fencers. Short and to the point. Interesting. Wouldn’t say it was one of my favorites of the year but it was worth reading.
Your Vote Matters • Rebecca Katzman | childrens non fiction about the electoral process. Made sense and had a real nice layout and pictures!!!!. (Not a picture book it was like 80 pages or something? But yeah I like it!)
Howl’s Moving Castle • Diana Wynne Jones | was just rereading all my faves for a bit there. Still a 12/10 book.
Yours from the Tower • Sally Nicholls | new YA epistolary fiction set in the 1890’s. Surprised me! Actually had a little nuance! Was very good about the characters. Important to me cause it made me understand how people work in certain situations better than I had before. I think I cried sad and I know I happy cried a little towards the end. I do recommend.
Sonnets from the Portuguese • Elizabeth Barrett Browning | still a favorite
Voices in the Air • Naomi Shihab Nye | the Emily poem!!!!! I think I loved Everything Comes Next more, a lot of these poems got more specifically political and idk it takes away their power a bit to me? But it still had plenty of bangers
Wheels of Change • Sue Macy | YA non fiction about the role of the bicycle in the suffragette movement. Interesting topic, real nice layout, lots of good primary sources. It had a reprint of a lot of pretty funny things women were advised not to do while riding, including “do not say Feel my muscle” and “do not ask Do you like my bloomers?”
The Castle of Llyr • Lloyd Alexander | follow up to The Black Cauldron. Beloved. He writes at such a good level and manages to keep the Nobility to the story.
Kilmeny of the Orchard • LM Montgomery | I actually didn’t like this one that much? Kinda hinged on some racist stereotypes and was mean about adoptees and the romance felt kind of condescending. Idk I wasn’t really impressed.
Saintly Women of Modern Times • Joan Carroll Cruz | Learned so many cool stories!!! I did also discover though at times you need examples as encouragement and at times examples might get a little discouraging. The women highlighted were all unique and interesting though!
Mapmakers and the Lost Magic • Amanda Castillo and Cameron Chittock | children’s graphic. Nice art interesting premise and world building. I’d probably read the next one.
Uniformity with God’s Will • Alphonsus Linguori | very good
A Wish in the Dark • Christina Soontornvat | HELLO!!! Childrens fiction with the premise Les Miserables but in Thailand. LOVED IT. SHOOK. I CRIED. BEAUTIFUL. I loooved the characters looooved the words, it was sooooo goooood!!!!!!!!! Made me want to do something nothing else has ever succeeded in (read Les Miserable). Do recommend!
The Lucky Poor • Mazie Lovie | adult graphic memoir about getting a house through Habitat for Humanity and unexpected drawbacks or something? Nothing really struck me about it tbh
Sisters of the Lost Marsh • Lucy Strange | the VIIIIIIBES VIIIIBES FOR DAAYYYYS. Middle Grade fantasy based on English folklore and circus, about six sisters who’s father says they’re under a curse. Beautifully done. This one will haunt me. Do recommend.
Romanov • Nadine Brandes | YA historical fantasy. had its moments but I kinda wanted the fantasy out of it at times though it wasn’t as jarring as some other stuff in that regard. It was a nice walk in the park and then the most nightmarish thing I’d read then just kind of ok. Not bad at all but not my most favorite. I just wanted to read about Anastasia tbh. I think (?) it had a pretty good illustration of forgiveness at one point though that made it make sense to me in a new way.

PETER VASILIEVICH PETROV was the Russian tutor of the five children of the Tsar and Tsarina. Petrov appears to have been a great favourite of the children, who often mention him in diaries and letters throughout their lives, nicknaming him 'PVP'. Several drawings made by the children were dedicated to him, and in return he read aloud to them and wrote poems for them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Petrov seems to have favoured Anastasia Nikolaevna, whom he called his 'little songbird'. English tutor Charles Sydney Gibbes recalled a lesson when Anastasia tried to bribe him with flowers so that he would improve her grade: 'Drawing herself up to the most of her small height, she marched into the schoolroom next door. Leaving the door wide open, she approached the dear old Russian professor, Peter Vassilievich Petrov. 'Peter Vassilievich', she said, 'allow me to present you with these flowers'. By all the rules he should have refused them, but professors are human; he did not.'
Finding concrete sources about Petrov is difficult both before and after time he spent with the Romanov family. He does not appear to have been imprisoned with the imperial family, which was most likely due to his poor health, which the children often me mentioned in their letters, concerned for their old tutor. Petrov appears to have passed away around 1918.
Tatiana Nikolaevna to PVP:
'5 May 1917
Tsarskoe Selo
Pyotr Vasilievich, my dear,
I feel so ashamed that I have not written to You before, but please don't think this shows I have forgotten You absolutely not. After all, it's possible not to write to friends and yet keep them in mind isn't that so? So, how are you feeling?
I was very upset, when I learnt about your illness. Do you have any news from your nephew how is he? As you will have heard, we all try to keep busy here with some form of domestic activity each one as he can. We are planting a kitchen garden. Do you really still have to stay in bed, or will you be able to go out onto the balcony once it gets warmer? Anyway, all my very best wishes. It's sad that we have not met for so long. Get well soon.
May God keep you. Your old pupil, Tatiana'

were there any royals who interested in art such as painting, poetry, or anything that i can find on internet? if there were, what's your favorite?
Off the top of my head;
Queen Alexandra - she had numerous hobbies, including photography, painting, writing, and making collages. She'd combine her talents to make collages, prints, and paintings to give away to friends and family as presents. She used to take photos and render them, and then paint backgrounds and stamp them on with crafts. You can find her work here, just type her name and add the 'as a creator' filter.
Empress Maria Feodorovna - just like her sister Alix, she too inherited her painting talent from her mother Louise. Her paintings are truly stunning, I dare say she was the most talented in the family. Here's an article listing various Romanovs and their works.
Grand Duchess Adelheid-Marie of Luxembourg - like a true Hesse-Kassel [her mother and Queen Louise of Denmark were sisters, thus making her Alix and Dagmar's first cousin], she was remarkable at painting. Her talent was encouraged at an early age by her parents, and she took lessons from different renowned painters throughout her life.
Prince Philip - according to Telegraph he painted in oils, capturing landscapes and interiors on his travels, including at least one self-portrait at an easel and a candid painting of the Queen at breakfast. Another post about it.
Queen Frederica of Greece - I've never come across any of her actual paintings, but there exist photos of her painting in Corfu.
Princess Mathilde of Bavaria - after her death, her family anonymously published a collection of her poems titled Life-Dreams: The Story of a Blighted Life.
Princess Louise, Duchess of Argyll - she was the most artistically talented of Victoria's children and was a prolific artist and sculptor. You can find her work here and here.
I don't particularly have a favourite, I think they're all wonderful. ☺️

“Where, too, is She, the loved and lately wived,
The fair-haired Daughter of an Emperor,
Born in the time of roses, and who lived
A rose's life; one Spring, one Summer more,
Dating from Girlhood's blushing days of yore,--
Fading in Autumn,--lost in Winter's gloom,--
And with the opening year beheld no more?
She and her babe lie buried in the tomb,
The green bud on the stem,--both withered in the bloom!”
— From “Child of the Islands” by Caroline Elizabeth Sarah Norton, Lady Stirling-Maxwell. This stanza is about the death of Grand Duchess Alexandra Nikolaevna of Russia, Princess Friedrich Wilhelm of Hesse-Kassel.

“Get to know the blogger” game :D
I was tagged by @variantoutcast my beloved
• Share your wallpaper:
I have 2 separate wallpapers on the PC I’m using. My lockscreen is Asa Mitaka/Yoru from Chainsaw Man. My homescreen is the chapter 201 colorspread from Tokyo Revengers. I’ll share these at the end.
• Last song you listened to:
“Arepeggio” by Alexandros [Spotify] [Youtube]. This song is used in the Judgment opening sequence, but I’m just really feeling this song right now.
• Currently reading:
Tokyo Ghoul, vol. 12 by Sui Ishida
The Last Days of the Romanovs by Helen Rappaport
The Complete Poems of Emily Bronte by Emily Bronte [compilation published by Neeland Media]
• Last movie:
My dad and I watched some of The Shawshank Redemption Friday night. We didn’t watch nor finish it (my dad is a channel flipper) but we both love the movie.
• Last show:
The last show I finished was The Glory and Tokyo Revengers season 2. I’m currently watching Extraordinary Attorney Woo and I might start another anime, but I’m not sure.
• Craving:
...good question. I’d say comfort and sweets.
• What are you wearing:
A red-pink-white plaid PJ pants and a comfy gray t-shirt
• How tall are you?
Somewhere between 4′10″-4′11″
• Piercings:
I had my ear lobes pierced when I was younger, but I currently have no piercings. I think they’re cool, but they’re not for me.
• Tattoos
None yet! I want to get my twin sister’s name [who predeceased me] and our birth month flower. I don’t want to do a daisy (I think they’re boring), so I’m considering using the sweet pea flower instead.
I might follow a similar pattern for my grandfather who recently passed. I’ll get his name and a flower that represents his birth month, so either aster or morning glory.
• Glasses/contacts:
I wear glasses! I’m not a huge fan of contacts, I’m kind of terrified of them lol. I’m blind as hell and fun fact: my right eye is 3x weaker than my left eye.
• Last thing you ate:
My dad made me scrambled eggs and toast. It’s been hard to eat this week, so these light foods were good for me.
• Favorite color:
Reds and darker pinks
• Current obsession:
I’m trying to complete Lost Judgment, the game I’m currently playing.
I’m going to do more research on my family genealogy. Part of it brings comfort to me [my grandfather loved that stuff], but it’s genuinely interesting to look at that stuff. I’ll probably read more about German/German-American History after the semester is over.
• Pets:
I have an obnoxious German Shorthaired Pointer named Luna!
Tumblr media
Favorite fictional character:
To quote Never: “Fuck. Evil question.”
Here are some of my favorite characters (and these are ones I can think of):
Muichiro Tokito (literally me but a fictional teenaged boy) and Tanjiro Kamado (Ellie says I’m like Tanjiro; it’s comforting) from Demon Slayer
Tobio Kageyama, Shinsuke Kita, and all of Inarizaki from Haikyuu!!
Lara Croft from Tomb Raider
Wanda Maximoff AKA Scarlet Witch from Marvel (saved the best for last)
• Last place you traveled:
I went to my grandmother’s house yesterday. We, along with my dad, his two siblings, their spouses, a cousin, and grandma’s husband got together to remember my grandfather who passed away on 03/28 (Tuesday morning). (This is the same grandfather I’m referring throughout this post.)
No pressure tags, but everyone is welcome to play and tag me.
@numbaoneflaya @rogueninja @meshla @malkinse @bpdanakins @sasukdyke @oatflatwhite
Okay, tag system kind of unreliable and I know I’m forgetting people so again: everyone is welcome to play and tag me <3
Wallpaper
Tumblr media
Asa and Yoru from Chainsaw Man
Tokyo Revengers won’t upload but you can find the spread here.
