Help the Philippines
Several strong typhoons battered the Philippines, especially Luzon, and caused billions of casualties through the typhoons Quinta (international name, Molave), Rolly (international name, Goni), and Ulysses (international name, Vamco). I know my account isn’t that big but I hope I could help spread awareness about my country’s situation in any platform I have.
#QuintaPH
A total of 242,220 residents or 57,742 families from 1,008 barangays in Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Western and Eastern Visayas were affected by Typhoon Quinta. Of the total affected, 65,579 persons or 16,830 families sought refuge in evacuation centers. Cost of damage to agriculture and infrastructure has also risen to ₱737.1 million, with Calabarzon bearing the highest cost worth ₱593.1 million. Typhoon Quinta partially destroyed 27,213 houses while 2,315 others were totally damaged. At least 330 passengers remain stranded in the different ports of Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol Region, Western and Eastern Visayas. (source: CNN)
#RollyPH
Rolly, at its peak, made 2 landfalls in Bicol region (Catanduanes and Bicol), prompting some 96,887 families or 372,381 persons to evacuate their homes. Some 147 houses were submerged in lahar and debris from Mt. Mayon. The country's 18th storm this year left an estimated P694.37 million worth of damage to agriculture in Bicol alone, according to the report citing the Department of Agriculture. (source: ABS-CBN News)
#UlyssesPH
Typhoon Ulysses, the Philippines' 21st tropical cyclone for 2020, began pummeling Luzon on November 11. Still reeling from Super Typhoon Rolly (Goni), Bicol was the first to face Ulysses' wrath, as the typhoon triggered massive floods in parts of the region. Ulysses then battered Calabarzon, Central Luzon, and Metro Manila, unleashing powerful winds and torrential rain that left neighborhoods submerged and people appealing for aid and rescue. (Source: Rappler)
150,000 farmers and 275,000 hectares of land have incurred losses amounting up to P10-B (~268 USD) after the devastations caused by Typhoons Quinta, Rolly, and Ulysses. That’s from agriculture alone, the losses from the massive flooding of Cagayan and Isabela are still not included in the computation. (source: CNN)
Massive flooding in Cagayan, due to continuous environment abuse
The massive flooding in Cagayan, the worse yet in 40 years, only shows environmental neglect. The biggest problem is the degradation of forests in both Cagayan and Sierra Madre sides. Today, the Cagayan River isn’t even visible as the region submerges in flood.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The province is the catch basin of rain water coming from Cagayan Valley and the Cordillera Administrative Region. Illegal logging has veeb a problem as well for the past 5 decades. The flooding has affected at least 179, 940 individuals in 26 municipalities of Cagayan. More than 11,000 families have been evacuated.
Tumblr media
Several factors caused the floods, including recent tropical cyclones and tail-end of a cold front, which prompted the release of water from Magat Dam. Excess water flowed to Cagayan River and its tributaries, flooding communities. (source: Rappler)
Dam operators must be held accountable for Cagayan and Isabela floods
The widespread flooding in Cagayan that gripped the nation this weekend is partly being blamed on the massive release of water from Magat Dam. Typhoon Ulysses made landfall late night Wednesday, November 11, and by Thursday, November 12, Magat Dam opened 7 gates and discharged 6,244 cubic meters of water per second. Dams including Magat rushed to open gates only at the height of Ulysses.
Magat did not make sufficient water drawdown 2 to 3 days prior to Ulysses, as mandated by its protocol, because its gates were not even open 3 to 4 days prior to landfall According to the Magat Dam protocol, there should be a drawdown 2-3 days before the expected landfall.
They had 3 days in advance [to pre-release water], the forecast was made at least 3 days in advance. If you did not contain the release within 1-2 days only but rather within 5 days, then the rivers will be able to handle it better.
The panic on Friday night was partly due to a dearth of information coming from inside Cagayan, which national media had not physically reached at that time. The steady stream of updates only came from the Twitter feed of Vice President Leni Robredo, who herself was also only getting updates from Manila. (source: Rappler)
Save Sierra Madre, Stop Kaliwa Dam
Sierra Madre is the longest mountain range in the Philippines and it protects the country from strong typhoons. However, illegal and abusive deforestation is keeping it from maintaining its full functionality. Kaliwa Dam is proposed to be built along Sierra Madre mountain range, and the environment experts and the citizens are wary of its possible repercussions.

You can help us stop the creation of Kaliwa Dam by signing the following petitions:

Pampanga Needs Help
Just like what’s happening in Cagayan and Isabela, Pampanga is also facing the run-offs by massive floods from Sierra Madre, Tarlac, and Nueva Ecija. Water from Bulacan will go down to Macabebe and Masantol. Waters in San Luis, Pampanga already reached head level.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Citizen-blaming
Office of Civil Defense Asec. Casiano Monilla denies that government was caught flat-footed by Ulysses and shifts blame to citizens who supposedly did not heed early warnings. The prime duty of the government is to serve and protect its people. The government refuses to be held accountable from their own incompetence. There wasn’t even a proper briefing before the typhoon struck.
Sen. Gordon also told the public that “No one will take care of you or your family best other than you. Don’t rely on the government.” This also caused unrest in the citizens who wanted to ensure the safety of one another. Because it only seems that we always have to beg to be served when in fact, all the money circulating the government came from taxpayers’ hardworks .
Oust Duterte, Now
Amidst all struggles the Filipino people are facing right now, from the covid virus up to the cyclone casualties, all of it comes down with the toxic and overly romanticized Filipino Resilience. Additional disaster response are not even planned well, hence the lack of mobilization. The president has all the power to do so, with one word. But not only does he keep the people waiting during crisis, he also only does briefing during or after the disasters. This is why people ask, “Nasaan ang Pangulo?” (Where is the President?)
Fanatics defended the president from criticisms, when asking for his presence will always be a valid question, because we all want to see the response to those who need it most, and not some measly comment on how he wanted to swim with the Filipinos but can’t, because of his health. That is not the point. The president doesn’t need to swim in order to reach help to the Filipinos, he just has to tell all of the country’s rescue forces to hurry.
Addressing the Taal Volcano eruption — “I will eat the lahar and pee on the volcano.”
Addressing the Covid virus — “I will spit [on] and punch the coronavirus.”
Addressing the massive flooding and demand for accountability — “I want to swim with you but the problem is, they’re stopping me, because if I die, there is only one president.”
The Filipinos can no longer wait and laugh at measly hyperbole. People are dying.
Monetary support
Thankfully, independent rescue missions and donations were arranged by several individuals and organizations to lend a hand to those in need. One of those who were seen with initiatives is the Office of the Vice President who is in partnership with Bangon Luzon in Project Kaya Natin ‘To (We can do this). So if you’re looking for a trustworthy organization to donate for the victims of the typhoons, this is where you should donate.

If any of you noticed, another huge typhoon has hit the Philippines. The typhoon Ulysses has brought so much hardships and pain to its victims in the Philippines. Homes were destroyed due to the flooding and the wind. People still stranded on their roofs waiting to be rescued. And what's worst, it came right after typhoon Rolly ravaged the people. They haven't even recovered from one disaster, and then another worse one comes crashing through. All while there's still a pandemic going on.
Our government is sh*t. They're hardly doing anything. Our president is a no-show once again. They aren't here when we need them. So we decided to take it into our own hands.

First Monday of the month that I really like, walang iniisip na gagawing activities, quizzes, exams. But this week is probably a "hell week" (di pa ako naka-review) yess midterms na!!! Pero kakayanin yan (hopefully).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I hope for their safety and health please keep on continuing our prayers for them. I feel blessed to feel this kind of weather kahit signal no.2 kami hindi masiyadong naulan at baha.

this is how i imagine how big the ph's babies are especially deku, bkg, and kiri
(link fs!)
HOOOOOO MY GODDDDD, that baby looks like a little gumdrop, i just want to kiss him🥺🥺🥺
But lkdjafkdljf absolutely! Most, if not all, pro heroes give you the CHUNKIEST of babies. Kiri especially, as the kid's coming out both huge and w/ rolls, too.
I feel like Deku gives you the naturally biggest one who just ends up looking a lil tubby (which is adorbs, BTW. They are so buttery)... and Bakugo gives you the perfect sized... dough ball. Nice and round, just a full on rollie pollie that's always got a foot in their mouth.
It's cute. All the boys line their babies up on the bed to take pictures... and literally start arguing about who's the biggest.

Typhoon Ulysses PH Relief Drive
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hello people, it’s me again, ancient_moonshine on ao3. Thanks to you and your generous donations, my friends and I were able to start our own charity drive which primarily seeks to help pandemic-affected jeepney drivers and their families. :D We’re currently aiding 9 jeepney operator and drivers’ associations within Metro Manila, with 637 members total. To date, DIWA has set up four community gardens for four different jeepney operators and drivers’ associations, as well as provided some of the drivers’ children with gadgets and internet for distance learning purposes. Through the Rotary Club, we’ve also coordinated with the Department of Health to provide them with maintenance medicines, and Rebisco food company to give them food packages. In the aftermath of Typhoon Rolly, we’ve also helped out evacuees from Guinobatan, Albay, by providing them with water after lahar buried their homes.  Check us out at facebook.com/Diwa Uplifts. However, I have to ask for your help again. I’m sure people have heard about the terrible flooding Typhoon Ulysses caused in the Philippines [international name: Vamco], right at the heels of Typhoon Rolly [international name: Goni]. Our current beneficiaries are drivers belonging to the San Mateo Maly-Philcoa Jeepney Operators and Drivers Association based in San Mateo, Rizal City, and the Tumana-Balara Jeepney Operators and Drivers Association in Balara, Quezon City. The drivers of both JODAs live in Rizal and Marikina, the worst-affected cities in Metro Manila, and many of them wound up with their homes and belongings submerged in floodwaters. These people are now staying in evacuation centers, or living in their jeepneys in their terminals while they fix up the damage to their homes and try to salvage their belongings. I will spare you the images because they’re honestly extremely upsetting, but here are some links to news sites for you to see how bad the damage is:  https://newsinfo.inquirer.net/1359823/typhoon-ulysses-triggers-worst-floods-in-metro-manila-in-years
https://www.cnnphilippines.com/news/2020/11/13/Marikina-state-of-calamity-Typhoon-Ulysses.html https://www.cnn.com/2020/11/12/asia/typhoon-vamco-philippines-intl/index.html
https://news.abs-cbn.com/news/multimedia/photo/11/12/20/massive-flooding-in-san-mateo-rizal At the rate deforestation and climate change are going, and given their locations [quarrying and deforestation in nearby mountains and watersheds basically sent water rushing down their slopes and rivers swelling because there were no trees left to absorb it] the problem our beneficiaries are currently facing stands to be a recurrent one. To make matters worse, the quarantine [longest in the world] and the jeepney modernization program have sapped their sources of income dry. Hence, our drive hopes to provide them emergency relief kits and go bags, to give them resources they might not otherwise be able to afford, just in case another typhoon sweeps across Metro Manila. [and there stands to be at least 4 more, this year alone]. We pray they don’t need them anymore, but just in case...  Unfortunately, donor fatigue is a thing, and honestly local resources have been sapped dry [Ulysses did not affect Metro Manila alone, it also hit Cagayan, Pampanga, Aurora, practically the entirety of Luzon]. So this is us, the members of DIWA, asking the international community for help. So far a rough estimate of the minimum that our grab bag will cost [food, toiletries, and meds excluded given we hope to get those via donations in kind] are the following: GRAB BAG COSTING PhP110  - 1 clear bag PhP155  - solar flashlights PhP4.36  - 1 whistle   PhP14 - 1 roll of tissue Per bag cost: PhP283.36 Total: San Mateo Maly-Philcoa JODA - 50 members x PhP283.36 = PhP14,168 ; roughly USD 294.45  [USD 1= PhP 48. 28] Tumana-Balara JODA - 62 members x  PhP283.36 = PhP17,568.32; roughly USD 363.88 *If solar lamps only for Tumana-Balara JODA [depending on our budget, Marikina LGU is comparatively experienced at disaster-preparedness, so priority for the kits is San Mateo]: 62 members x P155 =  PhP9,610 [roughly USD199.04] For international donors, our Paypal account is [email protected]. You may find a link to our transparency sheet in the above image, as well as links to our official socmed accounts.  Please send me a PM if you wish to donate, and a screenshot of your donation. Unfortunately gifts are closed for the moment since I still have a backlog, but even a simple share means the world to us. ;___; Thank you so much for your support, and may we see better times ahead.  Thank you so much. <3

English 284 (1)
Word Count: 1495
Summary: Your proposal to teach a new class combining art and literature is accepted... under one little condition. (College AU)
Warnings: Language
A/N: We’re doing impulsive writing again because it worked well the last two times. Oof. Here we go again, folks. Image is of a painting mentioned in the chapter: “Ophelia” by Sir John Everett Millais. (Source)
Steve’s Perspective .
Tumblr media
“Fellas, it’s happening!” you said, shoving the door of the lab open with your hip, laptop balanced precariously in your arms.
“Seriously? I changed the code yesterday! How did you get in here again?” Tony complained, letting his head fall forward onto the table with a dull thunk while Bruce scoffed.
“You changed it to my birthday, smartypants. Besides, my ID is still authorized on the card reader. If I didn’t know better, I’d say you enjoy my company.”
You pulled a spare chair over to the table where Tony and Bruce were working, planting your own laptop primly on a stack of battered notebooks. Bruce’s probably. Tony abandoned paper ages ago.
Despite the token protest, Tony was actually your closest friend at work, a pairing that completely baffled your colleagues. The specific brands of eccentricity displayed by English professors and Engineering professors didn’t tend to mix well. But the Dean of Studies, Pepper Potts, had recommended befriending Tony on your first day, and his quick humor and ostentatious confidence had effectively drowned out the imposter syndrome that plagued you during your first semester teaching. You’d met Bruce Banner only a few days later, and sharing lunches in Tony’s lab in the basement of the Engineering building had solidified into sacred tradition by the end of your second week.
“Did you hear back about the new course proposal?” Bruce asked.
“Yes! I got the email notification on my way over here, but I haven’t opened it yet. Tony, tell me your wife isn’t going to break my heart.”
“We don’t talk about work at home. But I read your proposal, and it sounded… Well, I wouldn’t take that class, but it sounded like something Pepper would be into.”
You squirmed anxiously in your seat, logging into your email with a deep breath. You’d worked on this course proposal for the better part of a month, editing and re-editing the syllabus at least a dozen times. You had titled the course “The Painted Word.” A full semester class studying famous myths, plays, poems, and novels and the works of art they inspired.
The idea formed when a picture of Sir John Everett Millais’s “Ophelia” i had sparked a lively debate among the students in your Shakespeare seminar. You’d spent the next week researching artistic representation of iconic characters and stories, and when you’d given a few of your classes the soft pitch of the course, you’d acquired more than enough signatures on the interest form to issue a formal request with the Dean of Studies. Being met with such enthusiasm had lulled you into a sense of security and excitement. In your mind, the course was already set in stone. Which is exactly why the email on your screen landed like a gut punch.
“She said no?” you asked faintly, your eyes scanning and rescanning the first sentence. “While I appreciate your enthusiasm and the care and attention you put into your work, I do not feel that I can approve the course as you’ve submitted it.”
You blinked owlishly but made no move to intervene when Tony snatched your laptop from its place in front of you. Bruce rolled his chair to read over Tony’s shoulder, and they wore twin expressions of puzzled displeasure which would have made you laugh if not for the current state of your professional goals.
“She didn’t say no! It’s conditional approval,” Tony corrected, his expression clearing as he reached to roll your chair closer to him. “Look.”
I’m intrigued by the course description you’ve laid out here, and it certainly has no equivalent in our current course catalogue. I think we would be remiss to limit the course to the English Department and encourage you to consider an interdisciplinary approach with the Art Department. If you’re willing to collaborate with one of their professors so that students can benefit from the expertise of both relevant disciplines and gain credit with either department, I’d be happy to approve the course for the spring semester. I’d recommend getting in touch with Steven G. Rogers. He has taught a number of interdisciplinary courses during his time here, and I believe he would be a helpful resource for you.
“She doesn’t think I can handle this on my own?” you asked, running your hands through your hair in frustration. “I have a Ph. D, dammit! I don’t need a babysitter.”
“I’m sure that’s not what she meant,” Bruce said, reaching around Tony to squeeze your shoulder. “She just wants to open up the class a little more. You know the college has been pushing for more interdisciplinary classes.”
“Who the hell is Steven G. Rogers, and why does she think the sun shines out of his ass,” you muttered grumpily, determined to hold onto your bitterness just a little longer.
“The sun couldn’t possibly shine out of his ass with the stick he keeps up there,” Tony said mildly, shocking a laugh out of you.
“Oh, God, tell me I won’t be stuck teaching with a stuffy old grump for a whole semester.”
“I’ve never had someone ask me to lie to them before. This is a weird feeling. Takes the fun out of it, almost.”
“He’s not that bad,” Bruce protested.
“How do you both know this guy? I’ve never heard of him before in my life. This is - ”
You broke off with a sigh, reclaiming your laptop and searching the faculty directory.
“Why does this stupid website never have any pictures,” you complained, scrolling through his profile.
“Be grateful. It would only make it worse for you,” Tony said with a smirk before smacking your hand away from the keyboard. “Wait, wait, wait! Does that say ‘Gentle Yoga?’ What the hell does that mean?”
“Yoga but in a sweater? On a pile of pillows and he braids your hair after?”
Tony snorted and started to respond, but you clapped your hand over his mouth immediately.
“Shut up. I heard it as soon as I said it. Don’t make it worse.”
“It’s just low impact yoga. Lighter stretches. For people who don’t feel comfortable or able to do standard level yoga. We usually get a few students with sports injuries or disabilities.”
You and Tony both turned to look at Bruce, staring in silent shock for a few moments before speaking.
“...Did you say we? Why did you say we?”
“Bruce, do you have something you’d like to tell me?”
Bruce rolled his eyes, pushing up from his seat and crossing to his bag on the other side of the room, very pointedly ignoring you and Tony who were frantically scooting after him in your rolly chairs.
“Bruce!”
He had pulled out his phone and was typing something, but he pivoted to block your view when you tried to peek.
“I’m texting Steve to see if he has any open spaces in his teaching schedule next semester. You’re welcome.”
“Why do you have his number?”
“Because we take turns teaching gentle yoga, which I’m pretty sure you’ve already figured out at this point, so drop it. And Tony has his number too by the way.”
“What?”
“Judas.”
“I thought you said he had a stick up his ass?”
“Well, the stick is sometimes useful, okay? And he’s not the worst person I’ve met. After a few whiskeys, he even approaches fun.”
You let out an incredulous laugh, abandoning your chair to pace the length of the lab.
“So you’re saying I should give this guy a shot?” you asked, massaging your temples against the stress headache that was starting to creep in.
Bruce’s phone chimed quietly.
“He says he has an open space. Should I put in a good word for you?”
You wandered back towards your laptop, looking wistfully over your syllabus.
“What are the chances this class will still be recognizable after his input?” you asked mournfully.
“You can change your mind and say no if you disagree with him. Find someone else,” Bruce said with a shrug.
“And he’ll pull his weight?”
“He’ll pull all the weight unless you strongarm him out of it,” Tony said with a laugh. “Look, Pep knows what she’s doing. If she thinks you two would work well together, she’s probably right. Her last recommendation turned out alright, didn’t it?”
“You keep trying to lock me out of your lab,” you pointed out half-heartedly, but you gave a nod to Bruce who immediately started typing.
“Yeah, well. Gotta keep you on your toes.”
“He said to send him the syllabus and let him know when you can meet to talk about it,” Bruce cut in, tucking his phone back into his bag.
You let out a deep sigh, nerves already fluttering to life in your stomach at the thought of having to pitch this class to a colleague again.
“What are the chances this turns into a huge disaster?”
“I’d say about 50/50. Either way, it’ll be entertaining.”
“Tony!”
“What? She asked!”

Alright guys, what do we think? Are you into it? Excited? How do you think the meeting will go? Do you wanna read more? Let me know! Asks, reblogs, and replies make the world go ‘round!
