Answering some questions about Rolescape features!
What’s the deal with account types?
Every user who signs up for Rolescape will be asked what kind of account they’d like to create. The reason for this is to keep the experience as streamlined, relevant, and organized as possible for everyone. Because there are so many options implemented to be inclusive of the different types of roleplay styles, everyones Rolescape experience will be a little different.
For example, those of you who only write one character won’t need to worry about seeing multi muse features in their menus, or creator features in their menus if they don’t want to and will only see features relevant to their muse account.
Can I change my account type?
Yes, you can always change the type of account you have from your settings menu.
Will I lose any data if I change my account type?
No. Your personal data is stored on Rolescape servers and is tied to your user account, not your account type. The account type only controls what is visible to you at any given moment, depending on the account type selected.
What if I want features from more than one account type?
If you want access to all features, we have an account type called Rolescaper which opens up all available options to you. In the future, I’ve thought about allowing users to custom tailor their personal experience with a premium account, picking and choosing from different options they’d like to see at all times, for a small fee to keep the Rolescape servers going.
What are the different account types?
Rolescaper (Main account with all add-ons)
Creator (Main Account with tutorials/packs/resources add-on)
Multi-Muse (Main account with muse Manager add-on)
Character (Main account with character add-on)
RPH (Main account with resources and lists add on)
Resource (Main account with resources/boards add-on)

RS server requiring exact ages seems questionable to me. Am glad they have a good voice of reason in there though. Good luck trying to keep them from making everything pristine and pure.
Oh, Anon, don't put that on me lmao! I'm only a single, evil, bubble-bursting mun, I can't change the world!
But seriously...thank you, and I will continue to try my best.
Also, yes, I am not going to lie, I was a bit shocked by that requirement. It almost made me back out, with the RPC's freaky bullshit with anyone out of their mid-twenties, I had some not unreasonable concerns about that. What kept me from turning around and going was seeing that there were other people in my age range and older than myself there. I had to scroll up a bit in the introduction channel to find them, and they're definitely not the majority, but they were there.
It's not a choice I would have made, I would have asked people to pick an age range like, 13-17 18-24 25-29 30-34 etc. because I don't feel like exact ages are appropriate unless a legal adult wishes to share that information. An age range still gives you an idea of your users without being that specific. It also still allows minors and adults to know they're interacting and make responsible choices. So, I have no idea why this was chosen, but it did and does bother me. Cannot/will not fault you for being bothered by it as well.
Since it, obviously, wasn't my choice or a choice I was involved in, I just also cannot say why it was made, thus, cannot really give an opinion on what might say.

Do y’all know of rolescape? I’m following that blog for a while already now, and their concept (about a website specifically made for RP and with so many cool features) sounds really really cool, so I figured I could mention.
Also, here’s a link to my most recent random post of Blackfire’s Takeover, I wanted to reblog it once more but now I did this OOC post so I probably won’t though screw it I’m queueing it up for another reblog during my sleep; tomorrow I plan on reblogging each of these posts (or those I actually like) once more and there’ll be one more new one too, but the Takeover is coming to an end so please take your chance while you can, if you wanna do something with it! If you still want to after the whole thing is over, you totally can still reply to some of these things though, I’d just probably answer them on Blackfire then since by then she'll be back on her own blog.

4. On your fandom.
One thing I’ve been seeing a lot lately with Marbles fandom is virtue signalling by people claiming you’re this terrible person if you write xyz and should not be doing so, google doc callouts for it, yada yada yada. This is...such bullshit honestly and it’s tiresome. This is not a blog that does the purity culture thing, and if anyone is bothered by it, there’s the door. If you’re going to take issue with a mun writing subject matter or a character that in no way expresses their views, you’re no longer allowed to consume any amount of “problematic” media. G rated only- movies, tv, books, the purest of pure. Cuz you cannot draw lines at censorship like that, and then you start to slowly have the line pushed further and further back until nothing is okay. So if you’re going to happily watch something, or read something, and then get pissy someone is rp writing it...hate to break it to you buddy, someone wrote and portrayed it already AND you consumed it. It’s not suddenly different cuz it’s rp. Just grow up and don’t follow people that write stuff that bothers you, have some self accountability and really understand mun ≠ muse. Unless someone is actually saying “I love this and agree with this and this is how I view the world in real life”...It. Is. FICTION!
11. On your character.
“Chaotic neutral never looked this good.” I’m quoting Dragon’s summary of my gang and well...I ain’t gonna argue it. Answered in more detail last ask tho.
16. On roleplaying in general.
It’s something that is unique to itself, like, not really anything I can do that is quite the same serotonin/dopamine fix of both creating something, making something for someone, receiving something from a friend, watching a story unfold, etc. It really is one of my favorite things to do for the past decade, it’s made me a better person for having experienced so many different view points and people, I’ve been forced (by my own stickler attitude towards getting things right) to research different topics to be sure I’m portraying it correctly, I’ve become a far better writer doing this than I ever was made into via my English class. While some of the behavior and opinions piss me off, I just try to communicate and when that doesn’t work, customize with removal. It will never be GREAT because it’s tumblr and it’s stagnant with a lot of immature mentality, lack of self accountability, circle jerking with positivity but offer anything actually helpful towards self improvement and it’s too brutal for people, etc. I will be quite happy when Rolescape is functional and I can start fresh in a place where accessibility, a proper blocking feature, mutuals only posting, etc will be available. I’m too old for the drama nonsense, people having a problem and saying nothing and expecting you to read minds, so on and so forth. I love roleplay, I hate tumblr, but until something else comes up, this is the spot most conducive to multi para/novella style like I like to do. It’s a curse.

Is there an ETA on when Rolescape will be up and running? After tumblr's latest round of censorship I'm getting worried.
Release has been pushed back a bit while we work on security. The Log4j vulnerability was released and Judah is currently doing mitigation. Releasing a safe, secure site is one of our top priorities, as is making Rolescape the best it can be. The good news is, we're moving closer to our goal every day! Alpha testing is still very much under way and we'll need more testers in the future, so stay tuned to the Discord (link in source) for updates!

So, for what it's worth I'm gonna chime in here on the whole 'points-no-points' thing.
To those who may not understand why some people would want a points reward system, and I'm not saying this applies to every one of them, I can tell you personally that my particular brand of neurodiversity thrives on incentives like this. It's not about bragging rights, it's a way to get myself to do things my brain goblins normally say no to. Normally it's an incentive system for doing chores I dislike but sometimes it needs to be similarly implemented in other areas of my life, like writing and role-playing.
That's not to dismiss your concerns by any means, it's more so to point out a thought process you may not have considered. Having read both posts I did notice that both times it was said that you can opt out of the points system. That's a choice that Tumblr has never given us, so I think that's also something to keep in mind.
As for the concerns about clique culture, while I fully understand why you're worried about it I can also tell you that it never goes away. It has nothing to do with the platform or features implemented and everything to do with the people perpetrating the behavior. Points systems aren't what encourages them to be cliquey entitled jerks, it's likeminded people that encourage the behavior. If not a points system they'd find something else to latch onto and make them seem better than everyone else.
Again, this is not to dismiss your concerns, this in particular is me sharing close to 30 years of experience with being looked down on, picked on, and left out of things because that kind of behavior exists in various parts of life, including the workplace by grown adults who supposedly know better. This is not something the developers are going to be able to control no matter what they do or what they implement.
Finally, to end this commentary I'm going to say this. No one is going to like 100% of the features on a website that's designed to include all walks of life. There are going to be things that are helpful to one person but seem ridiculous to the next person. Again, we are being given an option to opt out of points, which is more than I can say for majority of other sites I've been on. We as roleplayers do get a say in what goes into the site, but we also have to remember that we aren't the only ones using the site and that different things are going to work for different people.
Thank you so much for your message! This was not only beautifully worded, but hit the nail on the head in a lot of areas. I think people would greatly benefit from hearing your experience / opinions on the matter so I’m going to leave this here.
I also personally thrive on incentives like that, and have a hard time enjoying my hobbies if I don't always get something tangible out of them.

Just a small note to say how excited I am for RS! I know a lot of messages/anons are being kinda rude about it so I wanted to remind you there are definitely still people out here who want it just as it comes and we're so excited for when it does come out! Hope you are well. x
Thank you for your support! We are super excited to have you!
<3 I hope you're well too. Remember to drink water and take care of yourself.

please release this site to the public before tumblr goes bye-bye
We are working on it. If you'd like to help out, please join the discord! Until then, it's just me spinning in this chair listening to I'm So Lonely by the Chipmunks (not Akon) while I write code by myself.

Might there be a way with Rolescape to only follow/see posts for certain muses if you follow a multi-muse? Sometimes someone might have horror muses or add a muse you don't want to see, and it would be fantastic if we could unfollow a specific muse without unfollowing the multi completely. Thanks for all you're doing!
Yeah! So, when you follow a multi-muse, you won't see posts regarding their muses unless you're following that specific muse as well and are subscribed to that muses posts. You will see anything the multi posts themselves, and you will see when they create new muses, but won't see muse content unless you want to.
So for example, you may see that they have created a horror muse, but you don't necessarily have to view any of that content if you don't go to that specific muse page and subscribe to it, allowing any posts that the multi-muse decides to share to that blog to appear on your feed. Does that make sense? It's kind of hard to explain, but I'm hoping it will make sense when you all use it. All following the multi muse does is *allow* you to view those muses if you want to, and to keep up with that muns posts.
So, if I were a multi muse blog with a bunch of muses, I would use my main profile to reach out to others and be like hey interact with me, these are my muses. And then you'd have the choice to pick from the muses you want to write with.

If you guys will add feature to save icons and user use them in the post without having to upload every time from folders that will be epic!
Absolutely! A media library with this concept will be a feature, and you can read more about it here and more about Rolescape's design in this tag.

i haven't been able to find any questions or answers about this, but how will rolescape approach group rping? like rn on tumblr, people who want to start a group have a main account for the group to keep track of applications, characters, plots, events, etc. and then players follow that account from character accounts. will rolescape be like that? will people be able to have mains/group characters on one account? or is rolescape going to be geared more towards indie rpers?
We have a special area for groups on Rolescape. It will not be like Tumblr since Tumblr doesn't give the option to create groups. When people make groups on Tumblr, they're making an entirely separate blog. On Rolescape, since we're geared toward roleplayers of all kinds (not just indie rpers), Groups are created by whoever wants to create them and from there, others can request membership, insert their application, and the admin can approve or deny. Admins can also invite others to join their group. All groups are given their own forum, dashboard, media area, custom pages/fields, journals(cross between document editor & wiki) and folders to organize them.

This might be looking too far into the future, but: what are your plans, at least so far, to prevent rolescape from turning into another Tumblr? Ie. what are your plans to ensure it won't be bought out by a company that ultimately ruins it, or sells it to another company that then ultimately ruins it? I know these websites are run wonderful at first, then as soon as the devs cash out, they fall apart. I'd hate that to happen here!
Well, primarily, our first plan is to actually listen to our userbase and discuss things with them openly.
In terms of it being bought out--I don't have a whole lot of concern for someone wanting to buy it, nor can I say I've ever given that possibility much thought since my goal with Rolescape has never been to make money aside from simply funding the site so I don't have to do so out-of-pocket.

Hey guys!
A bit random but a good suggestion i think would help is temporary bans for offenders of harassment / like they do on flist. On there they IP bam you for X amount of weeks/months/ or even years. Just a suggestion since from the three rp communities ive been on (flist, tumblr, twitter) flist gave me the least amount of issues with people because everyone had no choice but to use the block button and mind their damn business lmao
Hey, thanks for the idea! Right now, Rolescape allows users to fully block other users—those users will not show up anywhere on the site, and it will be as if neither of you exist to one another. In addition, we will allow reports and investigate all of them to ensure the comfort and safety of everyone roleplaying and interacting on Rolescape. You can also make posts viewable to friends only, and make your profile private. We hope this is sufficient enough as we had heard something along the lines of this before and the community brought up the concern of issues arising when more than one person shares an IP address, as well as the fact that there is the possibility of spoofing IP addresses. If you have any feedback on that, we’re always open to hearing it! There are a thousand ways to achieve the same end goal, we just have to figure out which way is the best.

For multi-muse accounts, will the parent-blog have an avatar that can be set separate from the avatars ones for each character?
Yes, avatars are separated! Multi muse blogs will have their own avatar and then for each muse you make, the form to create them will ask you to upload an avatar so your muse can be featured in the muse directory and so you can easily find threads/content that you've created with/for them in your folders and tags area.

I think when it comes to the word "premium" people just have a visceral response and end up thinking about sites with "pay to win" features, even if that's not necessarily what you plan on doing. coupled with the recent post+ nonsense tumblr just did.
Lol totally agree! We are changing the name because premium doesn't really define the experience. Someone suggested a supporter account.

I think the "user-deletes, their-replies-get-deleted" might be a dealbreaker for me. I write very long, invested threads, so it's a huge blow to lose thousands of words worth of rping. People may also just copy and paste the replies to tumblr or another site for "safekeeping" if that ends up being a thing. Maybe a good compromise would be, if a person deletes, the replies for a thread get hidden (not deleted, hidden) for everyone except the rp partner(s) who actually did that thread with them?
I think that's a good idea. There are also plenty of areas for you to copy and paste content on Rolescape for safe keeping too. You have private journals/document storage, so I can see that being used as well. I will brainstorm some ideas, or at least allow threads to be handled differently.
Obviously, it's all going to be up to how smart I am in figuring it out so bear with me lol.
