Flames

When I started this A4 acrylic piece, it was a test of how well I can draw by now without references, but I really can't remember how I came up with the foolish idea of this particular perspective. I think this is probably one of the hardest possible foreshortenings, right up the nose. When I was done, my vision wasn't quite fulfilled - it was all just dark red - so I added the strands with an acrylic marker. That was nice but still lacking; so I taped off triangles, redrew the strands with a white marker that would colour well, and flooded them with inks in yellow and blue. Now it's more interesting. I’m impressed with @rohrerundklingner_official Sketch ink! It does not fade while erasing pencil underneath, doesn’t feather or smudge while water coloring over the top! The black is rich and deep. A test of ink line and wash on Baohong hotpress paper | Swipe to see WIP video | The fountainpen is @lamy_official Safari Terracota while the ink is @rohrerundklingner_official Sketch ink.

When applied within the hour, the ink can still do washes. But once it's completely dry, it seems to be permanent.

Compared to Sailor Kiwaguro, the R&K sketch ink seems to be easier to control. We shall see how it performs on coldpress paper. ☺️

#FPtober Magenta • Home . Growing up, we moved often, so home was never quite a place. Home was an emotion produced by people, pets, tea, and meaningful objects (like my toy dino). Sungod

A quite experimental piece using collage and painting, based on a rough sketch from my sketchbook. I started with flooding the paper with yellow and orange ink, covered parts with white applied with a palette knife, painted, drew and overpainted with quite a few layers. The collage bits are a thick layer of acrylic pouring I once peeled off a plastic sheet cut with scissors and glued on with simple glue, but later covered with liquid varnish to keep them on. I like how the figure looks somewhat robotic with all the line across the body. I used Daler+Rowney system 3 acrylic paints, Rohrer&Klingner inks, blue and black Faber-Castell ink pens, red and white Molotow acrylic markers, and golden Sakura Calligrapher marker. Blue Rain

A somewhat less realistic style - more artistic, if you will - for this small acrylic painting on synthetic paper with scifi/fantasy mood. I eyeballed her face with all my facial construction might. I had been looking at a lot of Loish's work before and while this isn't anything like what she does so brilliantly, I was inspired. I have mixed feelings about the synthetic Yupo; I like using coloured pencils in the middle of a painting, and since the plastic-y surface of acrylics may not accept it readily, it takes some pressure. On this surface however the paint comes off from that, requiring a delicate touch and often, gesso. I used coloured ink as well for the backdrop, and ink pens for tiny details. Golden Gaze

I try to get some ethnic diversity into my artworks, as here in my recent acrylic sketch with limited palette. This lady was drawn without reference as part of a skill test to myself. I knew I wanted to use this palette starting out - raw umber and simply "violet"; since mixing purple is honestly one of the messier things to do, I like a pre-made one that I can shift. I used palette knives for the background and probably lost track of my lighting plan a few times, partly due to working obsessively without standing up to take a look from further away without lamp glare in my eyes. Yes, my workplace needs some adjusting. For the golden spatter, paper covered the painting wile I used a mouth atomizer, spraying gold hue ink straight from the bottle. I like how the droplets become larger further away when used at an angle. My paints are Daler-Rowney system 3 plus Lukas Cryl, and Rohrer&Klingner ink. Metallic media don't scan all that well so this is more pretty in person. "Golden Gaze", A4, acrylics and ink on Yupo paper. '#unexpectedfriends' The first testing with this month's @upcrate supplies. I really like to work with a #dippen and #ink, so this box came really up my alley. More so because I wanted to try the @rohrerundklingner_official since I saw what amazing things @heikala does with these. They are really nice to work with. The @speedball_art nibs are also great and came in a variety I didn't have. For my first testing piece I choose @tomandjerry who accompanied me with other #cartooncharacters through my childhood.
