Neither of them can remember what they were bickering about, words shriveling up and dying in their throats as they stare.
"Why it's that Angel fella!" Angel barely had enough chance to shove the bag in his hands into Spike's before he's embracing a familiar woman, her husband behind ehr with a happy smile. "Good to see you son."
"Mom, you're gonna break him in half!" A familiar giggle squeezed Angel's long dead heart into mush, and somehow it was Fred to pull her mother away, her smile blinding as Angel wobbled in place. "He just got back from a trip."
"Oh we know the feeling!" Fred's mother laughed, slipping an arm around her daughter as Angel shook her husbands hand. "Y'all have done well for yourselves, and picked up a new team member?"
"Name's Spike luv." Spike purred, his free hand reaching out to shake hers, going s far as to kiss her knuckles. "Pleasure is all mine..?"
"Trish, and my husband is Roger." The older woman blushed at the gesture. "You're an absolute peach."
"On my best day." He winked, shaking Roger's hand before stepping back beside Angel.
"Well, we're going to see Fred's lab before we have to leave, our flight is in a few hours," Roger tipped his head toward his daughter and Wesley, the former Watcher having plastered on a smile that didn't reach his eyes. "If we have time we'll check in with you boys."
"Sounds good, now come on you two, time's a wasting." Fred giggled, Roger and Trish both missing the absolute look of anger from Angel as she ushered them away and up the stairs across the lobby. Neither Angel nor Spike could come up with the words to register what had just happened, for now busying themselves with delivering the head they'd been able to fetch in Rome before going to Angel's office and straight to the liquor cabinet. Spike wasted no time in drinking, idly listening to Angel upgrading the trip for the Burkle's as the whiskey burns its way down his throat, trying to drown all those nasty little feelings that were beating against the inside of his chest. He doesn't have to ask how Angel is doing, the poorly suppresed anger scenting the air so heavily it made poor Harmony jump when she entered to drop some files off, the younger vampire fleeing with a nervous smile as Angel stared at the paperwork.
It's no surprise when Wesley joins them a while later, the three sitting in silence as time passed by in a blur. They don't know what to do next, what to say to the god who had thankfully fucked off for now, so they just sit and drink.
It's all they can really do right now.

Thoughts about these last several days of trump and the persistent turmoil he creates
Each day, and frequently many times during each day, I try to assemble my thoughts about trump and all that has happened over the past several days. I settle on some thoughts or conclusions about a few issues and prepare to share them, but then he does something else, or some republican politician does something else that creates a fog over everything. So, back to the drawing board, this evening or tomorrow, and the process starts again, until I reach the point where I convince myself to go hermit and not give a damn until I vote in November and watch the election returns on TV.
Then today, when I learned that trump commuted the prison sentence of former Illinois governor rod blagojevich, pardoned several other white-collar criminals and commuted the sentences or pardoned several others. In total, today, he commuted the sentences of, or pardoned, 11 people.
Others he treated to a present include Michael Milken, a financier who was known as the junk bond king who wrecked havoc on the financial markets. Besides trump, who supported Milken’s pardon? Here’s some of the people on the list: Sheldon Adelson, Maria Bartiromo, Ron Burkle, Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao, William Ford, Rudy Guiliani, Robert Kraft, Representative Kevin McCarthy, Rupert Murdoch, Sean Parker, John Paulson, Nelson Peltz, and Gary Winnick.
The commutation of the sentence of blagojevich is particularly heinous to me, and maybe to most if not all residents of Illinois. That man redefined public corruption, which was a tough thing to do in Illinois, which is regularly redefining public corruption. (Besides, he ran me over while I was walking to a friend’s house from a Cubs game, while he was a US Representative. He wasn’t paying attention, and his stinky, sweaty body ran into me and knocked me down. I hated him from that moment forward.)
In the meantime, he’s verbally assaulting the prosecutors in the Roger Stone case and Judge Amy Berman Jackson, even though wink-wink Attorney General Barr asked him to keep the quiet thoughts quiet, and he’s going after Robert Mueller, again, and threatening to sue everyone. Wait for the pardon of Manafort, Stone, Flynn and anyone else involved in his Russia thing. It will never end.
And as this goes on, the carnage in the Democratic Party is getting more intense. We knew this would happen. And as the carnage continues, trump’s troops are laughing their asses off, knowing that as the Democratic Party continues and intensifies its internecine warfare, the odds improve each day that we get four more years of trump.
That’s ok, because we will be moving to Namibia. I love sand dunes, cheetahs and elephants.
