Idea: A Summer "RockFest" on AO3?

So I’ve been trying to brainstorm some different ways to encourage more writers and readers of band/rock fiction to start using the AO3 archive - because it’s definitely underused for such stories (in fact even lacking in some bands completely in the music category, or their tags haven’t even been properly wrangled.) And one idea that hit me today was to organize a fest or challenge for this year, modeled a little bit like an actual music festival. Call it RockFest or BandFest 2015 or something.

And here’s what I kind of had in mind:

* Set up a Tumblr account to organize/admin the Fest.

* Start off ahead of time by putting together a starting list of suggested bands/artists - who we’d like to “see” at the festival. (Anyone from The Beatles to the Foo Fighters to Metallica to Elvis Presley, as long as they rock. This is an imaginary festival so the sky’s the limit as to who might be there!)

* Interested authors can “claim” a band/artist and thereby commit to writing and posting one new story for the fest, let’s say a minimum 1,000 words in length. More than one author can claim a band, but there must be at least one claim for the band - and a new story - for it to be included in the festival.

* Each day of the fest (it could run a week, two weeks, a month if there’s enough interest), have a spotlight on the band/artist of the day. The new story/stories revealed on A03, with a promo on the Tumblr page. Other participants could submit story recs, artwork, favorite vids or anything related to the band to the Tumblr on that day as well. That way each band gets its chance in the spotlight, a time where fans could promote their band(om) and why new people should give it a chance.

* Like any good festival it should end with a crazy all-star jam as well. We could have a thematic prompt for the last day wherein anyone/everyone could submit a fic, drabble or anything related to the theme to close out the fest. (That way, even if someone wanted to include a band that wasn’t on one of the featured days, they could get a chance in the spotlight as well.)

What do people think? Could it work? Would anyone be interested in participating? I’d love to hear thoughts or other ideas you might have.
