are people really mad about team rocket winning because its "just going oh gender!" because that is not true. vivian is canon trans but meowth was for nearly a decade voiced by a trans woman (maddie blaustein) that credited the experience to part of why she was able to come out! a significant amount of the votes towards team rocket will be a result of this (and the common man in a dress jokes around james, something that while intended as just a repeated punchline is commonly reclaimed by trans fans.)

I recently re-read that arc where Steph is kidnapped by the gang, and after your post about her relationship with Arthur, I finally realized what was bothering me in the last page. Steph beats Arthur, who is in prison, chained up and unable to defend himself, and it's implied that she will continue beating him for another 10 minutes as long as the guard at the door doesn't care. But this is not the behavior of a hero. Like not at all.

Hero vs villain fight? Good. Protecting yourself or your mother from an abusive dad? Yep, right job, girl. But here Steph turns from a victim into an aggressor and it's scary. Don't get me wrong, Arthur is an asshole and deserves a lot of bad things. But it says more about Steph that she sees nothing morally wrong in beating up a defenseless person.

Whoof. Yeah, I feel you anon. Arthur is admittedly not handcuffed here, they take those off in the previous page right before they let him walk in the room (which... they wouldn't have done that, I'm pretty sure. Not in an unattended visitation room with no glass between him and his visitor, that's just asking for trouble).

But yeah, it's certainly part of a trend where it's okay because he deserved it for making Stephanie mad. Y'know, like her ex-boyfriend/baby-daddy.

Which even skeezier than I remember because he did literally fucking nothing. This scene is only the second time he's ever been mentioned, the first time being during the Cataclysm earthquake when his big crime was... not sticking around in a collapsing building during a city-destroying earthquake.

The dialogue before this makes it very clear that he did not know she was pregnant, she only found out after she started dating Tim. There's nothing to indicate that he's older than she is, that he pressured her into anything, or that he was even the one who broke up with her. She even says in the last panel that she's not even mad at him, she's mad at Tim. For caring about a girl who got shot in a gang fight.

But this is portrayed as a-okay because... Stephanie's angry, and that means she has the right to hurt whoever she wants, I guess. Which is also why it's okay when she stalks Tim's friends, nearly gets an innocent boy shot and then tackles him to the ground in an allyway with the intent of beating him because she thinks he's her boyfriend.

Or when she's so hurt and upset by her dad dying that she screams insults at her mother, destroys their stuff, and then runs away from home for a few weeks to check into a hotel and go on spree of unhinged vigilante violence that nearly gets her and Tim both killed.

Or how Jordanna from Batgirl is immediately dismissed as a vapid, hateful bitch purely because she doesn't immediately peg Steph as the bestest person who ever lived and start talking about how amazingly special and wonderful she is like the rest of the cast.

Or how Tim ""deserved"" to be insulted and belittled by her in his own damn Pride book until he groveled for forgiveness for the crime of (check notes) "not immediately coming out to her, his ex-girlfriend, when he hasn't even chosen his own damn label yet."

Or hell, even this bit -- one of only two time she's ever actually shown standing in (but not actually attending) a high school -- where she's set up with two random students to talk to just so she can insult them and then later talk about how stupid and immature they are compared to her.

But, y'know. They deserved it, so it's all okay, I guess. The Stephanie Brown Double Standard.
