GOOD MORNING. I need a haircut real bad but I'm not going to do it. I have been digging my shaggy mane (not really pictured here, it's all compressed from bed) but last week I had to send in a head shot for something and I suddenly realized I had gone from looking like someone who really likes BEETLEJUICE to looking like actual Beetlejuice ("the Beetlejuice itself" as my favroite eastern european barista once said). There's "that awkward phase" and there's also a crazy phase. It's becoming wellness check hair, but I'm not letting anyone touch it until it's in a place where I can "accidentally" lose several inches and feel OK. Recently I referenced a mutual who went in for a trim and lost about a year's worth of growth to a haircutter who kind of said "I meant to do that" like it was technically necessary for some reason, and I was thinking that the same thing has happened to me on more than one occasion; I tell someone I want JUST a trim of split ends but to keep as much length and body as possible because I'm still growing it out, and then I open my eyes and I'm missing several inches and I get this big explanation of how that's the correct procedure for my needs somehow, even though if that were true you'd think that when I ask for a teeny tiny trim at the beginning they'd then say "That's not possible and here's why" instead of silently chopping off 3" and explaining it to me later when I might freak out. It's a conspiracy I tell you! But maybe I will risk it next month for my birthday. I hope you already know what you're going to get me before you run out of time. If you need a hint, it is Horns, Pronghorns, and Antlers by by George A. Bubenik and Anthony B. Bubenik. It's only $160, don't be stingy! What if I don't have many birthdays left? If you don't buy me this book you might hate yourself.

The truth about hair is that I have always been very attracted to severe and shaved looks on both men and women. I love the feeling of my own shaved or very short hair, but I'm feeling like at my age and shape long hair is the way to go. Also as I have noted elsewhere I believe I have a mole right on the middle of the top of my head and I'm very short and it would be the only thing anyone could look at, and so I will not be shaving my head even though I am anxious about hair flopping around my eyes and ears and touching my face and stuff. In a perfect world maybe I could get someone to mold my hair into horns. I'm not a furry and I don't fantasize about that kind of thing, but I just love horns. I would love to replace all friendly physical contact with social headbutting; maybe people would be more comfortable with my no-hugs policy if I gave them something else to do. I think it would also be a lot of fun to smash things with my noggin. Could today's scientists and/or aestheticians have the answers I seek? Watch this space for more as this story develops.

Description

With its warm southern sunlight and leisurely interactions between herders, this painting of the Italian countryside would have affirmed urban Dutch perceptions of rural areas as places of innocence and peace. The son of a painter, Adriaen van de Velde was also inspired by the cattle pieces of Paulus Potter and the Italianate pastoral scenes of Nicolaes Pietersz. Berchem. He achieved a harmonious balance of elements by studying the landscape from life as well as by sketching the cattle in the pasture and the human figures in the studio.
