olympics coming up…… athlete aus on the mind….. satoru as a swimmer….. unreasonably large wingspan…. huge hands..... thinks “official” competitions and tournaments are boring because he can’t use the goofy purple googly eyes goggles he likes to practice in…… practices at ungodly hours solely because he likes when the pool is empty because that means you’ll dip your feet in at the edge and be there to greet him with a kiss when he’s finished his laps….. they bring up the stats board and it’s just his name ten times before the next fastest person and he could still lap them, and even tho he’ll always put so much pressure on himself to be the best, it’s worth it to have you hold his face and tell him you’re proud of him... he’s gotten so much merch from events and sponsorships and he used to think they just created clutter but that all changes when you start to wear his clothes (esp the ones with his name on it… he’s not proud to admit that does Something to him)…. always looks up to the stands when he finishes a race and if he knows you’re not there, he looks right at the camera, draws an infinity sign with his fingers, and blows a kiss (which, some commentators routinely call “unsportsmanlike conduct” but he doesn’t care, and always, publicly says he’ll pay the fees if it means blowing a kiss to his girl at home)

I like obsidian a LOT. I like the cutting edge, and how it looks knapped. I like the shine, and the weird sorta-glass-like appearance. It is a cool rock, in my opinion. What are your thoughts?

Obsidian is very cool! Here is one of my favorite pieces.

This is the best piece of obsidian in my collection. This is a piece of gold sheen obsidian. And they call it "gold sheen" because it does this.

That is completely natural, that's not a manmade effect at all. What that is, is obsidian is volcanic glass and so it cools and it hardens very very quickly, and this piece has cooled and hardened so quickly that it ended up trapping a lot of microscopic air bubbles inside.

And so that gold sheen effect that we're seeing is actually the light reflecting off of all of those microscopic air bubbles trapped inside the volcanic glass.

In any case, painting this sure was a trip, especially since I'd never really seriously done anything like it before, and have only dabbled in ruining minis. Nothing here photographs well at all, sadly, so you'll have to just take my word on it that it all turned out pretty damn cool.

And now she can chill and guard my plants in her full resplendent glory.

She is... huge. But this is only right and appropriate. The level of tiny detail on her still meant I had to resort to toothpicks and needles (with the occasional Gundam marker assist).

And still I spent hours becoming intimately familiar with her elaborate... coccyx armour or whatever that is there. Also, getting her weird pseudo-marble statue skin colour right was very much a challenge.

The next thing I do, I think, will not be painting Isobel just yet (sorry). Instead, I might reach into the depths of my gunpla stack and build Aylin a fancy flying buddy.

And then pose them so they're doing a wing high five or something equally silly.
