Brontës work so well because of geopsychology. Imagine those novels in a warmer climate. Heathcliff dugging Cathy's grave with a sand shovel. Rochester straight up wearing hawaiian shirts. No.

3, 8, 9, 10, 11, 15, 16, 20, 21, 22, 25, 27 for Isaac and Joshua. (Whoa, I have a lot!! My brain is rotating them around.)
one essay about the boys coming right up 👍
3 - isaac was a bit intimidated the first time he saw joshua, mostly because he thought joshua was way cooler than himself and he didn't want to say anything embarrassing (and a lil bit because joshua had an early growth spurt and was like a foot taller than him at the time lol). joshua thought isaac was just an annoying, trying-to-hard class clown until they properly talked for the first time. nowadays, they've discovered they have much more in common, and joshua's come to genuinely enjoy isaac's joking around ❤
8 - since they both grew up in the extremely edgy early 2000s, they both have a tendency to mainly communicate through joking insults. isaac has an easier time knowing when to be earnest than joshua, who even after his character development still kinda feels like expressing his emotions = showing weakness. sadly being a non-human entity does not make him immune to toxic masculinity 😔
9 - unshakable loyalty
10 - isaac is much more comfortable expressing his thoughts and feelings in an honest way than joshua, who will either talk around his problems, just scratch the surface of what's bothering him, or on his worst days, outright lie to avoid the conversation
11 - its interesting, because their dynamic tends to flip depending on the situation. in low-stress moments, isaac is the goofball while joshua acts as the straight man, whereas during crisis times, isaac will become the voice of reason while joshua defaults to self-sacrifice or self-destruction. there's also the way isaac tends to direct his anger or fear inward, while joshua will lash out
15 - they have a ton of trust in each other, especially following the events of 2009 for fairly obvious reasons. even though they're starting to bicker with each other more while staying with eli in toronto, their trust in each other is not the issue there
20 - for isaac, it's hearing joshua purr while awake for the first time, which he did following the first big bout of rain after moving to rochester. for joshua, it's sneaking into his first ever concert - a slipknot show during 2002 - with isaac.
21 - for isaac, it's joshua hitting him during their big falling out in the house. for joshua, it's isaac finding him after luce ripped his legs off.
22 - kind of obvious answer, but the whole journey to rochester after isaac pulled joshua out of the Nightmare Sand Pit
25 - they'd probably assume isaac is only hanging around joshua out of pity, seeing as most people still don't view cael devils in a favorable light (worth noting that most people in cdtaville also don't have nearly as negative a reaction to the cael as the red circle ppl either)
27 - they've pretty much already risked their lives for each other: from joshua trying to distract luce resulting in the leg yoinking, to isaac's search for joshua after he was kidnapped, to the whole blood magic in the church scene. and they might even do it again at some point but ssssshhhhhhshshshshh

Tell me a few things you love about Wessa!
Ahhh another ask from my fav Shadowhunter blogger! Wohoo! These are the first two things that comes to my head. But there are MORE ;)
Their dark academia aesthetic
The Dark academia aesthetic of their relationship. Now while this may come across as superficial, its more then just "loving books". It's the chaise and adventure they find in books that they then live by in their real lives. How they challenge each other in a conversation and insider jokes they share tethered in the novels they consume. Let the other rant about their favourite things and celebrate novels that invite the reader into more journeys beyond just their own. And the way they talk about characters, morals and plots as experiences and people they know almost intimately. How their choice of words matters, and they are economical about their feelings. Dark over light academia bc London is a dank dark city ahaha. And they feel well deep rather than feather light.
Their timeless love
Somewhat still related to novels, but I feel like what Cassandra Clare did with Wessa was the melting pot of all our favourite literary tropes/heroines in classical literature. Which gives it a sense of timelessness and makes them feel like they are 'endgame'.
I wrote previously that Tessa is the perfect blend between Jane Eyre and Elizabeth Bennet. She retains Jane Eyre’s contemplativeness, slight shyness, physical features, dry sarcasm and strong sense of self-actualisation. But also Elizabeth’s wildness, snappiness, boldness, passionate love and will for happiness, all without the arrogance that came with Austen’s heroine.
Meanwhile Will's darker side reminds me of Mr. Darcy in how he pushes those he loves away. John Thornton from North and South who is set in his ways slightly stalkerish (i'm a sucker for the stalker trope sorry not sorry) Will retains the mystery of Edward Rochester, where there is more depth to him that meets the eye and heck even Tessa says at one point that his mood swings remind him of the treacherous Heathcliff. Most of all he reminds me of Alexander from The Bronze Horseman (which only came out in the 90's but technically it came out before TID and is already considered a classic). Alexander and Will overlap in how they sacrifice their love and longing for a greater peace (War and to not upset a family) all for the love of their other one. They are deeply flawed and challenge the reader on their tolerance for forgiveness .
“I love you. I’m blind for you, wild for you. Sick with you. I told you that our first night together when I asked you to marry me, I am telling you now. Everything that’s happened to us, everything, is because I crossed the street for you. I worship you. You know that through and through…” (The Bronze Horseman)
“Alexander, you broke my heart. But for carrying me on your back, for pulling my dying sled, for giving me your last bread, for the body you destroyed for me, for the son you have given me, for the twenty-nine days we lived like Red Birds of Paradise, for all our Naples sands and Napa wines, for all the days you have been my first and last breath, for Orbeli- I will forgive you. ” (The Summer Garden).
And you find you can, because their love and longing for their partner is almost holy and like a religion to them. Those we love the most, hurt us the most, but in turn, they are also those who deserve the most grace and Mercy. If not for them, then for who?
"You are not the last dream of my soul. You are the first dream, the only dream I ever was unable to stop myself from dreaming. You are the first dream of my soul, and from that dream I hope will come all other dreams, a lifetime’s worth." (Clockwork Prince).
This, coupled with the stakes of their relationship then as a unite (and also separately) echos a timber that reminds me of the setting we find in 19th century Russian literature (but with an HEA tysm CC my heart can't take it). This tragic longing we see in Anna Karenina where any choice Tessa makes she looses something in the same breath. The high apocalyptic war torn feel of War and Peace alongside the feeling of doom you get right at Chapter 1 in Clockwork Angel like we did in Crime and Punishment, when Raskolnikov kills a man, and it's all downhill from there.
Conclusion
CC wrote these two with the aim that they remain true to the history of their time, but blended it in with fresh modern air for us to be able to relate to and TRULY succeed. Who knew a historical romance about two book lovers could escalate so highly in the ranks? Now while they are so high up in the ranks of GOAT-ed couples in literature, they aren't without their flaws. Mainly not bc of the narrative or the character's choices but more to do with CC's discontinuation of their story linearly past TID. But that's a different ask for another time and tbh, that's where I seek out lovely fanfictions like the ones you create in order to fill in the blind spots CC didn't fill.
Thank you for this ask! I hope this was worth the read ILY @ibrushmyteeth-donttellanyone♡

some things I highlighted in jane eyre
Though it was now dark, I knew he was awake; because I heard him fulminating strange anathemas at finding himself lying in a pool of water.
&
‘In the name of all the elves in Christendom, is that Jane Eyre?’ he demanded.
&
I looked, and had an acute pleasure in looking – a precious yet poignant pleasure; pure gold, with a steely point of agony: a pleasure like what the thirst-perishing man might feel who knows the well to which he has crept is poisoned, yet stoops and drinks divine draughts nevertheless.
&
'You need not think that because we chanced to be born of the same parents, I shall suffer you to fasten me down by even the feeblest claim: I can tell you this – if the whole human race, ourselves excepted, were swept away, and we two stood alone on the earth, I would leave you in the old world, and betake myself to the new.’
&
All I had now to do was to obey him in silence: no need for me to colloquise further. I got over the stile without a word, and meant to leave him calmly. An impulse held me fast – a force turned me round. I said – or something in me said for me, and in spite of me – ‘Thank you, Mr Rochester, for your great kindness. I am strangely glad to get back again to you; and wherever you are is my home – my only home.’
&
Is this my pale little elf? Is this my mustard-seed? This little sunny-faced girl with the dimpled cheek and rosy lips; the satin-smooth hazel hair, and the radiant hazel eyes?’ (I had green eyes, reader; but you must excuse the mistake: for him they were new-dyed, I suppose.)
&
And then there are other chances in life far more thrilling and rapture-giving: this is solid, an affair of the actual world, nothing ideal about it: all its associations are solid and sober, and its manifestations are the same. One does not jump, and spring, and shout hurrah! at hearing one has got a fortune; one begins to consider responsibilities, and to ponder business; on a base of steady satisfaction rise certain grave cares, and we contain ourselves, and brood over our bliss with a solemn brow.
&
‘But I apprised you that I was a hard man,’ said he, ‘difficult to persuade.’ ‘And I am a hard woman – impossible to put off.’ ‘And then,’ he pursued, ‘I am cold: no fervour infects me.’ ‘Whereas I am hot, and fire dissolves ice. The blaze there has thawed all the snow from your cloak; by the same token, it has streamed on to my floor, and made it like a trampled street. As you hope ever to be forgiven, Mr Rivers, the high crime and misdemeanour of spoiling a sanded kitchen, tell me what I wish to know.’
&
‘Brother? Yes; at the distance of a thousand leagues! Sisters? Yes; slaving amongst strangers! I, wealthy – gorged with gold I never earned and do not merit! You, penniless! Famous equality and fraternisation! Close union! Intimate attachment!’
&
‘My first aim will be to clean down (do you comprehend the full force of the expression?) – to clean down Moor House from chamber to cellar; my next to rub it up with bees-wax, oil, and an indefinite number of cloths, till it glitters again; my third, to arrange every chair, table, bed, carpet, with mathematical precision; afterwards I shall go near to ruin you in coals and peat to keep up good fires in every room; and lastly, the two days preceding that on which your sisters are expected will be devoted by Hannah and me to such a beating of eggs, sorting of currants, grating of spices, compounding of Christmas cakes, chopping up of materials for mince-pies, and solemnising of other culinary rites, as words can convey but an inadequate notion of to the uninitiated like you.
&
‘Let us rest here,’ said St John, as we reached the first stragglers of the battalion of rocks, guarding a sort of pass, beyond which the beck rushed down a waterfall; and where, still a little farther, the mountain shook off turf and flower, had only heath for raiment and crag for gem – where it exaggerated the wild to the savage, and exchanged the fresh for the frowning – where it guarded the forlorn hope of solitude, and a last refuge for silence.

Bio:
Gideon Gorelieu was born almost nothing to a pair of indentured servants in French Louisiana: his father repaired the local magnate's fishing fleet, his mother a maid in one of the minor sugar baron's households. he watched his two older brothers die in a hurricane that wreaked horror on their coastal community, and his younger brother never lived past childhood –– dead of sickness and starvation, and his mother died of grief soon after. with a decent knowledge of fishing boats and weather patterns, he took to sea on a merchant vessel as a green hand, but showed promise and eventually made his way up through the ranks. as an officer, he was instrumental in staging a mutiny against their captain, and the ship became a profitable smuggling operation rather than a legal merchant ship. with her dark grey sails and unique capacity for escaping the notice of the law amongst the sandbars and coves, the schooner took a new name: La Petite Revenante.
for a while, Gideon bent his head to the new captain, but in an outburst of his soon to be infamous temper, killed his only competition in a duel of honor. when they put to sea again, he raised the prospect of piracy: any dissenters had their throats slit and were tossed to the sharks, leaving only the most merciless, and callus, among them. after a few minor prizes, cutting their teeth as buccaneers and filling out their ranks, Captain Gorelieu set his sights on a Spanish frigate. the revenante's crew swarmed aboard, and slaughtered almost every single man, leaving only a few to swim ashore and tell the tale of the newly-named CAPTAIN BARTHOLOMEW GORE.
Gore rapidly became a successful pirate with his flagship, La Tuerie, in his command, taking several prizes that he allocated to the command of his officers and building out a sizeable fleet. the Louisiana governor, wishing to keep Gore as an ally rather than an enemy, offered him a commission as a privateer, a plot of land, and some political influence if in exchange he would show mercy to the colony and share his ill-gotten wealth with them instead of elsewhere. Gore could not refuse, and began construction on the place which put fear into the hearts of all those enslaved and indentured who worked on it: Bloodmere Manor. to separate the privateer who now lived in privilege and wealth ( and hard won fear and respect ) in New Orleans from the bloodthirsty pirate captain, Gore occasionally used the name Roberts in other ports like Nassau, Port Royal, and Havana, but the people of Louisiana always attributed the stories of bloodshed to their own captain.
on one of his returns to New Orleans to check on the progress of his new mansion, Gore dined with the governor and a few of the city's socialites and was introduced to Miss Priscilla de Claire, a lovely, innocent nineteen year old heiress who –– kept in the dark about Gore's piratical exploits –– was charmed by the older captain who could be most gentlemanlike when he wanted to be. he began courting her, swaying her with expensive gifts and endless attention, and the two were set to be married as soon as the manor was finished. Gorelieu began integrating himself more completely into landed society and into his role as a plantation owner, befriending the de Claire's and most of the other New Orleans families with a by-and-by more polished exterior. but by night, he drank heavily, and every time he closed his eyes began to be haunted by the faceless masses he had put to the sword.
on the very night they were wed, Gorelieu hosted the de Claire's and other prominent families in the richly-decorated mansion, but while he entertained his in-laws, Priscilla snuck off alone to explore her new home. in the basement, she discovered a chest full of relics of his pirate's life: weapons, and maps, and worst of all, the bones of his enemies, kept like souvenirs and not all of them cleaned. she confronted Gore, horrified, threatening to have their marriage annulled. Gore was incensed. ( alongside the loss of his love, he stood to lose her dowry, too ) in a fit of rage, he dashed his bride's head against the wall, and bricked her body up in it.
while the de Claire's searched the bayou endlessly for their missing daughter, assuming she had balked from married life and fled the obligations of becoming his bride, Priscilla ensured her husband could not enjoy his newfound wealth, or find any peace in the expansive house: her ghost tormented him to madness, until he fled again to sea ( hoping to escape some suspicion, as well ). but he found no respite from his bride, there, either, and the visions followed him until –– his ears filled with endless screams –– he hung himself from the yardarm, a ghostly specter on a ship of death, leaving the mansion empty of everything but ghosts.

5 Common Deck Repairs in Rochester and How to Fix Them Efficiently
Your deck is a vital part of your outdoor space, providing a place to relax, entertain, and enjoy the fresh air. However, exposure to weather and regular use can lead to wear and tear. Recognizing the signs of damage and addressing them promptly is key to maintaining a safe and attractive deck. Here are five common deck repairs in Rochester and how you can fix them efficiently.
1. Rotting Wood
Rotting wood is one of the most common issues for decks, especially in areas with fluctuating weather. Moisture seeps into the wood, causing it to decay over time.
Signs: Look for soft spots, discoloration, or mould growth on the boards.
Solution: Replace the affected boards with treated or composite wood, ensure proper sealing, and apply a high-quality protective finish to prevent further damage.
Why Go Professional: A deck builder in Rochester has the expertise to identify the root cause and recommend durable, long-lasting solutions.
2. Loose or Damaged Deck Boards
Over time, deck boards can become loose or develop cracks due to wear and tear or improper installation.
Signs: Boards that creak, move underfoot, or show visible cracks.
Solution: Tighten loose boards using screws or nails and replace cracked or splintered boards.
Why Go Professional: A professional deck builder in Rochester MN ensures the repaired boards are properly aligned and securely fastened for a stable surface.
3. Unstable Railings
Railings play a crucial role in deck safety, but they can become loose or unstable due to rot, corrosion, or poor installation.
Signs: Wobbly railings, gaps between rail posts, or corroded fasteners.
Solution: Reinforce the railing by tightening or replacing fasteners, replacing rotten posts, or opting for a new railing system installation in Rochester for enhanced safety and aesthetics.
Why Go Professional: A professional ensures your railings are not only secure but also meet safety standards and blend seamlessly with your deck design.
4. Rusted or Corroded Hardware
The metal components of your deck, such as screws, nails, and brackets, are prone to rust and corrosion due to exposure to moisture.
Signs: Rusty hardware that weakens the deck’s structure or makes it visually unappealing.
Solution: Replace corroded hardware with rust-resistant options like stainless steel or galvanised fasteners.
Why Go Professional: Hiring a deck builder in Rochester ensures proper hardware replacement and secure fittings for a safe deck.
5. Fading or Peeling Finish
Over time, your deck’s finish can fade or peel due to exposure to sunlight, rain, and temperature changes.
Signs: Dull colour, uneven tone, or peeling paint and stain.
Solution: Sand the deck’s surface, clean it thoroughly, and apply a new coat of stain or sealant to restore its appearance and protection.
Why Go Professional: Professionals use high-quality products and ensure an even application for a long-lasting finish.
When to Consider a Deck Renovation
If your deck has widespread damage or no longer suits your needs, it might be time for a deck renovation in Rochester. Renovations can address structural issues while incorporating upgrades like custom deck design in Rochester or additional features to improve functionality and value.
DIY vs. Professional Deck Repairs
While some repairs, like tightening screws or touching up paint, can be handled on your own, others require professional expertise. Structural issues, extensive rot, or railing replacements often demand the skills of a professional deck builder in Rochester MN to ensure safety and durability.
Conclusion
Keeping your deck in top condition requires regular maintenance and timely repairs. Whether it’s addressing rot, fixing unstable railings, or refreshing the finish, these common issues can be efficiently resolved with the help of a professional. For more complex problems or to enhance your deck’s overall appeal, consider working with an experienced deck builder in Rochester.
By prioritizing maintenance and professional repairs, you can ensure your deck remains a safe, beautiful, and functional part of your home for years to come.

In this blog post, we’ll explore the benefits of hardwood flooring, the types available, and why Rochester is the perfect place to invest in this timeless material.
The Benefits of Hardwood Flooring
Durability: One of the most significant advantages of hardwood flooring is its durability. When properly maintained, hardwood floors can last for decades, making them a cost-effective investment. Unlike carpet or vinyl, hardwood is less prone to stains, odors, and wear, which is particularly beneficial for families with pets or young children.
Aesthetic Appeal: Hardwood flooring adds a touch of sophistication and warmth to any room. The natural grain and texture of wood create a unique look that can complement a variety of interior design styles, from traditional to contemporary. With a wide range of species, colors, and finishes available, homeowners can easily find the perfect hardwood to match their aesthetic preferences.
Ease of Maintenance: Maintaining hardwood floors is relatively straightforward. Regular sweeping or vacuuming, along with occasional damp mopping, is usually sufficient to keep them looking their best. Additionally, hardwood can be refinished to remove scratches and restore its original luster, allowing for extended use without the need for replacement.
Allergen-Free: Unlike carpets that can trap dust, allergens, and pet dander, hardwood flooring is a more hygienic option. Its smooth surface makes it easy to clean and does not harbor allergens, making it an excellent choice for allergy sufferers.
Types of Hardwood Flooring
Rochester offers a variety of hardwood flooring options to suit different needs and budgets. Here are some popular types:
Solid Hardwood: Made from a single piece of wood, solid hardwood flooring is known for its durability and can be sanded and refinished multiple times. This type of flooring is available in various species, including oak, maple, cherry, and hickory.
Engineered Hardwood: Composed of multiple layers of wood, engineered hardwood is designed for stability and can be installed in areas where solid hardwood may not be suitable, such as basements. It offers the same aesthetic appeal as solid hardwood but is often more affordable and easier to install.
Pre-finished vs. Unfinished: Homeowners can choose between pre-finished and unfinished hardwood flooring. Pre-finished boards come with a protective finish applied in the factory, making installation quicker and less messy. Unfinished hardwood, on the other hand, allows for customization and a more seamless look once installed and finished on-site.
Choosing Rochester Hardwood Flooring
When selecting hardwood flooring in Rochester, it's essential to consider factors such as species, color, finish, and budget. Local suppliers and flooring experts can provide valuable insights and help you navigate the options available. Additionally, visiting showrooms can allow you to see and feel the flooring in person, helping you make a more informed decision.
Conclusion
Rochester hardwood flooring is a timeless choice that offers beauty, durability, and ease of maintenance. Whether you're renovating your current home or building a new one, hardwood flooring can elevate your living space and create a welcoming environment. With a variety of options available, you're sure to find the perfect flooring solution that fits your style and lifestyle. Invest in Rochester hardwood flooring today, and enjoy the elegance and warmth it brings to your home for years to come!

Transform Your Outdoor Space with Professional Composite Deck Installation by Premier Deck
Upgrading your outdoor space with a new deck is an exciting project that can significantly enhance your home's aesthetic and functionality. One of the best options available today is composite decking. At Premier Deck, we specialize in professional composite deck installation, providing you with a beautiful, durable, and low-maintenance outdoor living area that you can enjoy for years to come.
The Benefits of Composite Decking
1. Exceptional Durability: Composite decking is made from a blend of wood fibers and plastic, resulting in a material that resists the common issues that plague traditional wood decks, such as rot, splintering, and insect damage. This durability ensures your deck will withstand the test of time and the elements.
2. Low Maintenance: One of the standout features of composite decking is its minimal maintenance requirements. Unlike wood decks that need regular staining, sealing, and sanding, composite decks only need occasional cleaning with soap and water to maintain their appearance.
3. Aesthetic Versatility: Composite decking comes in a variety of colors, textures, and finishes, allowing you to choose a style that perfectly complements your home’s exterior. Whether you prefer the look of natural wood or a more modern design, composite decking can meet your aesthetic preferences.
4. Eco-Friendly: Many composite decking materials are made from recycled content, making them an environmentally friendly choice. By choosing composite, you’re contributing to the reduction of waste and the conservation of natural resources.
5. Safety: Composite decks offer better slip resistance compared to traditional wood decks, providing a safer surface for walking, even when wet. This makes them an ideal choice for families with children and pets.
