Thinking about H.Bomberguy’s Roblox_oof.mp3, and I can’t help but imagine the real backstory for how might have all happened to him.

He’s looking online one day in 2020, 2021, and sees an news article about how the Oof sound effect originated from Messiah.

He writes it down as a possible video idea, but puts it on the back burner so he can cover more important topics, like how Anti-vaxxers are destroying the world or how Deus Ex: Human Revolution is mid.

Finally, in late 2022, he decides to take a break from his longer, months-of-research deep dives, and picks the Oof story to make a short video about.

When he gets to the point of talking about how Tommy owns the sound effect, he writes up a biography section of the video, talking about a lot of Tommy’s past accomplishments, and sets aside the Amico disaster for its own section, since it’s fairly well documented and there’s overlap with the discovery of the Oof sound effect.

While working on the main bulk of the episode, he notices the discrepancy of who actually MADE the sound effect, and looks into it further, only to realize Tommy’s been pretty shady about all of it.

He begins double checking Tommy’s biography and credits, since he wants to see if there’s any precedent for Tommy personally working on Sound Effects.

While doing so, he sees the Sonic claim again, and immediately realizes “Wait, there’s no possible way that’s right”, because even someone who doesn’t know two things about Sonic could figure out that Tommy wasn’t the first American to work on it, and he begins checking ALL of Tommy’s claims against more verifiable sources.

Five simple facts later, and it’s blatantly obvious Tommy Tallarico is a pathological liar who was once taken to court for lying so much.

And the rest is history.

To get to him, I will slit throats and pull teeth and burn buildings. I will be hideous. Tonight I am to knock over the first domino. I am going to kidnap the man who launders money for the local mafia and go from there.

This, an accusation: I can’t tell you because then I will give them a reason to kill you.

As if she hasn’t already?

This, a deflection: “I’m going out.”

Mercy finishes her laces and stands. She doesn’t turn around to look at him. She knows herself well enough for that, at least.

“That’s it. That’s the plan.” Twist the knife so he won’t ask again. “Why do you care, anyway? You hate going out with me. So just stay home.”

This, a rejection: they always leave eventually. So she does it first. It’s easier this way. Isn’t it.

this week

movie: glass onion: a knives out movie (2022). seen in an actual cinema, in fact seen at one of the small screens at the lido that feels like a private screening room, which absolutely added to the decadent vibe of this treat of a movie. i cannot wait to nudge @door into giving a comprehensive breakdown of all the influences this movie indulged in.

music: and in the darkness, hearts aglow, by weyes blood. every track released before this album drop made me feral, so having an entire album turned me into some kind of unknowable cryptid. twenty twenty's karen carpenter, i love you.

youtube: defunctland's disney channel's theme music + hbomerguy's roblox oof.mp3. i want to hold down every person who's ever written "credit to the artist" underneath anything they've ever reposted somewhere online and force them to watch all three+ house of these video essays. the defunctland video in particular really stabbed me in the eye.

democracy!: victoria had a state election yesterday, and although i did not get a democracy sausage i did help turn my electorate green for the first time, which is better than a sausage.
