Play wrestling with your gf Robin Buckley, but Steve walks in and practically shrieks because he thinks you two are doing something wildly different
In Steve's defense, you are biting Robin's thigh. But you're biting her thigh to overpower her, which- doesn't sound much better. But you're wrestling - really wrestling, not wrestling.
You've got her pinned to the wall, and you'd dropped to your knees to gnaw at the sensitive skin of her inner thigh. The pinch from your teeth is meant to make her knees give out, and once she's on the floor you'll grab her wrists and pin them to her back. Then you'll declare yourself the winner before she can escape. It's meant to be a foolproof plan, but- well, Steve Harrington has been called a fool before. Perhaps no plan is foolproof enough for him.
He's accustomed to walking into Robin's room like it's his own, but this time you're sure he wishes he'd knocked. He finds you kneeling between Robin's legs, face buried in her thigh a little too close to what's between them for Steve's comfort.
He screams. He screams, and slaps a hand over his eyes, and stumbles backwards all at once, which means he goes tumbling back down Robin's staircase. Her bedroom is right at the top of it, and the hallway is evidently not wide enough for Steve to stop in before he falls right back down the way that he came.
You both dart to the staircase and watch as he lands at the base with a sickening thud, and a groan that you've come to associate with visits to the emergency room.
"Steve?" Robin calls, feet pounding against the stairs as she races to his side. She prods at his temple, and when he grumbles something incoherent in response, she lifts his head off of the floor. She cradles it in her hands, checking for his pulse, "Steve, can you hear me?"
"Yes, dipshit, stop poking me," He swats her hand away when he regains the wind that was knocked out of him, and he sits up while glaring at you where you stand at the top of the staircase.
"That was fucking disgusting." He accuses. You're fairly certain you have the right to do whatever you want with your girlfriend in her own home, but you'd just caused Steve possible brain damage, so you don't point that out.
"We were play-fighting," Robin huffs, rubbing the back of her hand where Steve had smacked her, "You're the one who didn't knock."
"I'm sorry! I'm sorry, I've been your best friend for two years," Steve gripes, struggling to his feet and rubbing at the back of his head where you presume it hit a step, "I didn't know I had to alert the presses to my arrival. Listen- you two," He turns his glare back to you, "I'm- happy for you, okay? But don't- don't ever do that shit again. Close the door, put a sock on it, put up a sign, I don't care, just- never again."
Steve chooses to ignore your rather snippy 'Yes, sir,' in favor of exaggerating a wince as he prods at a sensitive spot near the base of his neck. "Un-fucking-believable," He scoffs, "Another concussion, and this one didn't even come from an interdimensional monster.

"What's wrong?" Robin asks, bumping her arm against his as she joins him leaning against the counter, staring out the front door of Family Video.
Steve doesn't bother to lie. Robin would know, she always does. "I'm not sure wrong is the right word, but it's, it's something."
"Wanna talk about it?"
"Yeah," he says, taking a quick glance around. It's just after 11pm on Saturday. They've got another hour of work before they can officially close, but Hawkins closes down at 9. The store is empty currently, and since they're facing the door, they'll know if someone comes in. "I just don't know- I don't-"
"Gather your words. Speak when you're ready. I'm not going anywhere," Robin says, and it speaks volumes that she didn't call him dingus. Steve's never upset by the nickname, not really, but sometimes, when the conversation is heavy, he can't deal with nicknames. Especially not ones that are meant teasingly now but started as an insult.
"I feel- I feel ungrateful and, like, selfish, because I'm... I'm not happy with Eddie," Steve says, then immediately frowns because that's not right. It's not wrong, either, but it's. "I'm not unhappy with Eddie. I love him. I love him so much, Robin."
"I know you do. It's disgusting."
"And I got into this relationship knowing what Eddie's like. I love him 'cause of those things, not in spite of-"
"You don't have to convince me you love him."
"Right. Right. It's just. It's like, I thought, I don't know, that I wouldn't have to always be the guy?" Steve says, and it's followed by such a long pause that he looks over. It startles a laugh out of him at how much Robin looks like him right now. Confused, brow furrowed and mouth slightly open. That's his perplexed expression, and it's mirrored on Robin's face now.
Well. Not now because he laughed so she's glaring at him.
"Sorry. It was like looking into a mirror for a moment there."
She wrinkles her nose at him and says, "What do you mean 'always be the guy'?"
He lets out a sigh. "I just mean- Eddie's the first guy I've ever dated. And there was, like, unwritten rules when dating girls. Don't give me that face, I already know the rant about straights and their het-ro-norman-whatever-"
"Heteronormativity."
"Yes, that. I know it's bad, working on unlearning it, etcetera, etcetera. Can I just get through this using the words I do have?"
"Yes. Sorry."
He waves off her apology and continues, "So, the unwritten but absolute rules of straight dating. The guy asks. The guy plans the date. He pays, if it's something that requires money. He gets the door, offers his jacket if it's cold, gives the flowers and chocolates on Valentines Day and- sorry. The guy does all that. I do all that. And I just. I want to not, not have to?"
Robin's eyes soften and she gives a sad smile. "Eddie doesn't do those things?"
Steve frowns. "Not- he's done some of those things but it's not... It's never been romantic. Never felt... intentionally romantic. Which is why I feel so ungrateful and selfish. 'Cause Eddie's not a romantic. Not like I am. And I shouldn't expect him to be!"
She frowns. "But you don't expect him to be."
"I mean, yeah. I don't. Which just makes this worse, right? Because Eddie tries. In his own way. And I'm still..."
"What does Eddie do to try?"
"He loans me jackets when I'm cold. And it's- it's like a throwback to the upside down. He'll fold it all nice and then throw it at me full force. Like with the battle vest," Steve smiles at the memory, despite his sour mood.
"That doesn't sound very romantic. That sounds like an inside joke. He could do that same thing while not dating you and it wouldn't be weird."
"Can't an inside joke be romantic?"
Robin nods as she turns, back to the counter so she can hop up on it. "Can be. And I guess if you find get pelted in the face by jackets romantic, that's your kink."
"Why do I talk to you?" Steve groans, and Robin shrugs. "Anyway, I guess I just... I want to be the one taken care of, sometimes, but not just when- God, I'm so selfish, aren't I?" He paces away from the counter, running a hand through his hair.
Eddie's a good boyfriend. He listens when Steve rambles about sports and stats, asking questions and actually engages in conversation. He takes care of Steve when a migraine leaves him all but useless; gets him his meds and water and combs his fingers through Steve's hair softly until it lulls Steve to sleep. Eddie pays attention enough to know the little things about Steve that he doesn't say out loud.
"Not just when?" Robin prompts, and Steve realizes he quit talking.
"Not just when I'm hurt. I want doors held for me, and for him to plan a romantic night, either out or in! And I- I want him to give me his jacket by wrapping it around my shoulders like I do for him."
"I'm going to say something, and you aren't allowed to be upset by it."
Steve nods.
"You have to tell him. Eddie's not gonna know you want these things unless you say so."
He nods again, because he knows that. He does. It's just... "I got with him knowing he wasn't a romantic person. I don't want- I don't know how to say it without making it sound like I want him to change. Or make him feel like he's not enough, or that he's a bad boyfriend for not having done this and-"
"Steve! Jesus, now who's the mirror? It's Eddie. He loves you. He'll listen. Even as you fumble your way through an explanation. A conversation is not the make or break of this relationship."
Steve swallows even though it feels like there's stones piling up in his stomach. A single conversation broke his last relationship, but Eddie's not Nancy.
"Yeah. You're right. I think I'm just... I'm afraid of making Eddie feel that same way Nancy made me feel, when she called us bullshit. I was blinded-sided by it all and I don't, I can't do that to Eddie."
"You won't. 'Cause this situation is different. You love Eddie, and Eddie loves you, and that's real and true. I think it would hurt Eddie more to think there's this whole other category of shit he could be doing for you, but isn't, 'cause he doesn't even know you'd like it, much less want it."
Steve nods as she speaks. It's all true, and he feels less like there are stones in his stomach. "Thanks, Bobbin. I don't- I might give it a few days before I talk to Eddie about it, but I will."
"You better, dingus," she hopes off the counter and looks at the clock, groaning when she sees it's still not midnight. "Think Keith will kill us if we close early?"
"No way. He'd have to cover all our shifts until he can hire replacements. We're too valuable to him to die."

Part 1
Part 3
Part 5
Part four of roommates idea
The officer clicked his pen again, signaling he took to long to answer. Steve faced him again, “Sorry I- Shit. Eddie he wasn't- he wouldn't do this shit. He's afraid of fucking dogs. Not even the real big ones either, he definitely wouldn't kill someone. He cries when he watches Bambi and gore freaks him out.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yes! I'm absolutely-fucking-positive! He looks all tough and shit but he's not, he's just scared. Fuck that sounds- so bad but- God why don't you believe me and Wayne?”
The officer sighs, ”Eddie sold drugs, did drugs, it's entirely possible he had to many and did something…Not entirely in his regular character.”
Steve bit his lip, “He wouldn’t.”
-
Steve sat in the family video, he's been distant since the shift started and Robin couldn’t understand why.
That was, until the TV showed the news of a Hawkins student dying. Did he somehow know?
Not much later, Max and Dustin came in yelling about phones, and were quick to start using them.
Steve didn’t even seem shocked when they talked about Eddie being accused. When they finally got a lead about a ‘Reefer Rick’, his eyes lit up.
“I know where he is.”
-
“Hello?”
Steve looked around the boathouse, “What a dump.”
His eyes landed on tarp covering a boat, “Eddie?"
“Eddie, are you here?"
Now, Steve wasn't an expert, but that tarp looked a lot like it just moved, and if it wasn’t Eddie then-
He grabbed an oar that was leaning against the wall, and began poking it.
“What are you doing?”
“It moved.”
“So take the tarp off!”
Steve gave Dustin an incredulous look.
“If you're so brave, why don’t you take the tarp off!”
It was silent for a moment, then-
“…Steve?”
The man in question let out a relieved sigh, and smiled. “Eds!”
Steve drops the oar, a resounding clatter banging off the walls as he flings the tarp off the boat.
And there he is, Eddie Munson in all his glory, sitting in a fetal position and clutching a broken bottle to his chest like a lifeline.
As soon as he seemed to see Steve, he quickly threw the bottle to the side and stands up to step out the boat.
“Steve, thank fuck.”
Eddie engulfs him in a hug, pressing his face into his neck.
Steve bites his lip, “Hey, hey its okay.”
Steve slid them down carefully, positioning his back against a column. It was a bit awkward, with them being similar height, but he made it work.
“She- I didn’t kill her! I don’t, she started fucking floating. Then her limbs snapped, god Stevie, please you gotta believe me.”
He looked over to the party, Robin’s eyebrows were pinched, Max was darting her eyes between the two, and Dustin looked like he was about to say something.
Finally, he gathered the courage. “ Eddie, we believe you. What you saw, it’s been happening for years. Well, not this particularly but the supernatural.”
Eddie peeked his head out, “ What do you mean?”
Dustin crouches down awkwardly, hands together. “Theres another world. Its kind of like this one, but its terrifying. There are things there. Its called the upside down. We’ve been fighting it since 1983 when Will went missing.“
Steve feels him tense. “ ‘We?’ ‘Fighting?’, How do you fight an invisible force?”
“Demogorgons, demodogs, government people, russians. We’ve had to face them for years. Steve and I were there in 1983, Max in 1984, and Robin just joined in last year with the Russians and the mall.”
Eddie’s eyes widened, and he turned his head slightly to face Steve. “ Is that why you were so beat up last year?”
Steve shrugged, “ Yeah. Pretty much.”
Eddie burrowed his head into his neck again. “ Jesus H. Christ.”
“Look, we’re here to help you Eds, that murder in the trailer? They were asking me questions, they think its you. Wouldn’t let up on the idea no matter how much I insisted it wasn’t.”
Eddie looked at Steve with a mix of fear and gratitude, “What do we do? Can’t exactly waltz up and tell them it’s supernatural.”
Steve hummed, “We need to figure out what happened to that Chrissy, and clear your name.”
Max stepped forward, “We’ll help you, Eddie. We’ve faced worse than this.”
Eddie nodded, “Okay. Shit, we’re really doing this..”
Robin glanced around, “Not to interrupt or anything, but maybe we should do the whole story? Like, you guys didn’t even mention the super power girl, and shes like major isn’t she?”
The long haired metalhead nodded, giving Steve a squeeze before letting go and standing.
He turned to face Robin a grimace on his face, “ Right, yeah, full story. Super power girl, sure.”
Steve patted his shoulder, when did he even get up, and after a second, bumped him with his hip.
“Buckle up, Eds. This is gonna take a while.”

Its nearly halfway through the movie when…
Steve: Oh, oh, I forgot- *reaching back into the bag of snacks that he had brought for movie night, retrieving two Ring Pops and handing them to Eddie and Robin* One for you… and one for you.
Robin: What are these??
Steve: They’re rings, but the diamond is actually candy, so you can eat it.
Eddie, already tearing open the packet: Steve, that’s very sweet, but we’re not eight.
Steve: *rolls his eyes and goes back to watching the movie*
Eddie: *immediately turning to Robin* What do you got?
Robin: Grape. Yours?
Eddie: Red.
Robin: Trade you?
Eddie: Yes!

'Lucky Guy'
@steddiemicrofic 🍰🍰🍰 < me sending you virtual slices of cake for the glorious offerings this month's prompt has brought so far.
August Prompt: 'Cake' Word Count: 311 | Rating: T | cw: Steve is really drunk but just being an annoying chatty-cathy.
“Eds... E-Eddie...” Steve croaks, speaking directly into his ear as he lays tucked in behind him, “I’s juz goin’ downstairsss for someofmybirthdaycake!”
He moves to swing his leg over but Eddie swats at him, groaning in frustration. How is this slurring chatterbox still conscious!
“Think maybe you should sleep off some of that beer before you try for the staircase Birthday Boy,” he whispers, patting his leg, “Had enough trouble getting you up here.”
“Wait!” Steve says clear as day, clamping a hand on Eddie’s own. He can feel Steve lift his head, “Why aren’t you spooning me?”
With great effort – and hindered by Drunk Steve’s jock strength –Eddie turns over and is met with a set of very sad puppy-dog eyes glistening back at him.
He cocks his head to the person snoring like a human garbage disposal behind his boyfriend, “Robin is spooning you, sweetheart.”
She’s holding onto Steve so tight, they look like one big pile of clothes and brown hair.
Steve’s eyes shine bright as he nods to himself, grinning, “Robin totally needs some cake!”
He barely lifts his head before his eyes roll back into his alcohol-filled skull.
“Wha-t’s hap-ing?” Robin rasps, stirring from their communal pillow.
At the sound of her voice, Steve’s lip quivers.
“Rob,” he sniffles, helicopter-kicking at the sheets until he is on his back and almost squishing his platonic soulmate into the mattress in the process.
“I’m just so lucky, Robs…” he hiccups as Robin shuffles around, teetering dangerously close to the edge of the bed.
Miraculously, Steve forces an arm around her – and squeezes Eddie impossibly tight against him too.
“Such a lucky guy,” he continues, humming contentedly as he slowly moves his head from side to side with every word, “I’ve got my boyfriend! And my best friend... And cake! Allonmybir-th... day...”
He fades into a snore.

Mike's faith in Will being alive circa season 1
Since s5 is supposed to go full circle back to s1/2 I neeeed there to be an acknowledgment towards the fact that Mike was the only one (aside from the Byers -- initially just Joyce) who had faith in Will being alive. Mike and Joyce's love for Will knows no bounds. Of course this doesnt mean that Jonathan and the other boys don't love Will, of course they do. But Joyce and Mike were so stubborn about the fact that Will was still alive and out there somewhere. What Joyce has for Will is a mother's intuition, but Mike also has this like, 6th sense when it comes to Will being endangered, he notices when Will isn't doing well and always checks up on him (movie theater scene in s3).
Since we're fairly certain that the first episode of s5 is "The Vanishing of Holly Wheeler" then what if Holly goes missing and Mike obviously feels like it's his responsibility as her older sibling to go search for her, and Will also volunteers for this mission which leads Mike to being like 'hell no i'm not letting you put yourself in danger again' and Will is like "Well, you helped look for me when everyone else thought I was dead, you were the only one who believed I was still alive. You saved my life. So now I'm gonna repay the favor" and Mike getting flustered like "Well it wasn't just me" (cause it was him + Byers + El who all really had faith). Mike cant argue with Will's point so he decides that it's okay to bring Will along on this mission and this is actually okay with him because he'll be right in Will's vicinity in case anything bad happens (since lets be honest Will has the biggest target on his back especially since he left the last season supernaturally unharmed, I cant speak for emotionally...he was definitely emotionally harmed)
Still trying to figure out the fact that apparently Byler + Robin are a team this season, like obv there are lgbtq implications there but having Robin third wheel is kinda craaazyy . Maybe they run into Vickie?

Vickie: I don't know what's wrong with me. It's like sometimes my mouth is moving faster than my brain, and it's like this runaway train, and I can't seem to get it to stop no matter how hard I try. . .you know what I mean?
Robin: Uh, yeah, I think I know what you mean. . .
Vickie: *gives her the monster of a pb sandwich* It's a gift.
It is a gift that Robin has found someone who understands her brain. They'll be rambling like a runaway train for the rest of their lives. The cutest scene in the history of scenes. THE WAY VICKIE LOOKS AT HER LIPS. 😍

Robin and Steve went up to sing a few more times, though Steve was still emotionally rattled a bit. Give me your phone, Eddie had said, come to the show any day this weekend, he said, just text me and I’ll come out to give you a pass. What the fuck was Steve’s life right now? Once he told Dustin about this, Steve was going to have bragging rights for the rest of their lives, the kid would never have the high ground again. No matter what his ego said.
Eddie was back at the table with his band mates. Jeff and Gareth, Eddie had introduced them. Steve was just a little bit tempted to do a Corroded Coffin song to fuck with Eddie, but he knew he wouldn’t be able to pull off the vocals anyway. The band had refused to go up at all, said they had to rest before their show tomorrow, that causing a commotion wouldn’t be a good idea either. Steve was a little bit sad he wouldn’t get a personal show in such close quarters, that would have really made Dustin jealous. As it was, Steve could probably claim this as the kid’s birthday gift for life. Not that he would.
He was almost more excited just to tell Dustin than he was to go to the show at all. Though, he was very excited, this all still felt like a hallucination. Robin had pinched him multiple times, just to check he wasn’t dreaming. Not that he asked her to, she just did.
He couldn’t tell what Eddie was saying to his band mates, but Steve could still see the wide smile on his face, and for once Steve didn’t choke on his words or skip a breath.
Across the bar, stage lights in his eyes, he could see Eddie throw his head back and laugh - the pull of his skin making Steves mouth water. He was so drawn to Eddie, to the soft edges and eyes that held fireflies, and sure he was nervous around him, who wouldn’t be? But at this point, Steve could either not do anything and he’d never see Eddie again, or he’d shoot his shot and if Eddie rejected him the outcome would be exactly the same; Steve had nothing to lose. If he had to wrap himself just a bit in King Steve in order to finish the song calmly and walk over to Eddie, that was his business. Everyone needed armor now and again, and growing up the center of attention taught Steve exactly how to pull that armor out and engulf him.
After their song, probably the last of the night, Steve marched right up to Eddie’s table with a new-found determination. He had nothing to lose.
“Hey Eddie, can I talk to you?” He asked, lightly brushing his fingers against Eddie’s forearm. He didn’t want to grab and seem too forward or pushy, didn’t want to seem crazed or too much.
“Sure!” Eddie replied, glancing once over to his friends (who shot him mocking looks and little smirks) and leaned heavier into Steve’s touch. He followed Steve over to the dark hallway past the stage, the one leading to the bathrooms. It was a bit dingy, but perfectly quiet and out of the way for what Steve wanted to say.
Steve turned around to face the rockstar, felt closed in with him in this little space. The worst Eddie could do was take back his offer to go to the concert this weekend, that’s it. Steve kept repeating it over and over again in his mind, trying to convince himself he could really do this. Before, in school, Steve had been so cocky and so confident. It didn’t matter that Robin always told him to cool it, to humble himself, he was a Harrington, he was King Steve, all the girls wanted him and all the guys wanted to be him, it was easy.
But then a high school girlfriend, one he was genuinely serious about, had called his love bullshit. She said he wasn’t worth it, that it was all an act and their relationship was another bullshit dance their parents had pushed onto them. He never felt like King Steve after that, not really. He felt the mask and the act and the character he played but he never felt like that person again.
Here, in the back of the bar with the lights dimmed and the music from the stage dampened between the close walls, with Eddie looking at him with so much patience for someone he only met yesterday, he felt like it didn’t matter if he had the kings mask on or not. He could be Steve and that would be okay.
“Steve?” Eddie asked when Steve hadn’t said anything. His fingers trailed lightly against Steve’s forearm, gently gliding into the palm of his hand. Steve clasped onto the soft touch, turning his palm into Eddie’s.
“I was wondering how long you were going to be in town?” Steve said, his inflection pitching up into a question.
“Tuesday we’ve got another show about two hours from here. Going back to our roots, so to speak, and after that we’re back on the road,” he replied. So, four days. They had performances Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, and Steve worked the weekends anyway. He could take Dustin to the show on Friday and then maybe… if Eddie was free, maybe Monday…
“Would you go to dinner with me?” Steve asked, tugging on the hand still held in his own. He pulled Eddie toward him just a step, letting the musician get closer if he wanted to. If he chose to.
Edit took a step closer, then another, the tips of their shoes stopping against one another.
“I’d love to,” he whispered between their shared space. “Does Monday night work for you?”
Steve huffed out a laugh, “Monday is perfect,” he said. “I’ll probably stop by your show tomorrow, if that’s okay?” Steve still wasn’t quite sure he was awake and not hallucinating, that he wasn’t drugged and unconscious in a hospital bed somewhere. He just wanted to double, triple and quadruple check that he was fully awake and welcome to just show up at this concert without a ticket.
“I said any day this weekend, of course you’re allowed to come tomorrow.”
“Well, sorry for kind of not believing this is actually happening after a rockstar I met yesterday said I could just show up to his concert completely unannounced without a ticket and waltz right in like some kind of famous lunatic or something!” Steve shouted a bit more than he intended to, quieting quickly and glancing around to make sure he wasn’t causing a scene.
Coast clear, his eyes darted back to Eddie who was pulling a strand of hair over his lips, and very clearly trying to hold back his laughter. Steve rolled his eyes. He couldn’t believe how quickly he was thinking fondly of this rockstar, like he knew him, like was comfortable being around him.
“Sorry, sorry,” Eddie laughed, “I promise it’s allowed. Just text me when you’re outside and you’ll be lead into the venue, okay?”
Steve nodded, tugging on Eddie’s hand just to remember the feeling.
The two groups dispersed shortly after their conversation, Steve and Robin heading back to their apartment while Eddie and his band mates went back to their hotel or bus or wherever musicians on tour stayed while in town. It was late, around 1am, but Steve couldn’t wait to tell Dustin the news. The little twerp would be awake anyway, Steve was certain.
He called the second they got back to the apartment, Dustin picking up on the second ring.
“What’s up, what’s wrong, what happened, are you okay? Is Robin okay?” He answered in a panic.
“What, I can’t call my favorite duckling just to talk?” Steve replied, trying to lighten the mood so Dustin wasn’t worried.
“Duckling? Steve what the fuck, it’s one in the morning!”
He rolled his eyes, though Dustin couldn’t see, “oh what, like you were asleep? Tell Suzie I say hi.”
“Hi, Steve!” a soft voice crackled through the line. Dustin and Suzie always FaceTimed until one of them passed out, talking about nerd things until some ungodly hour. He smirked down the line.
“Yeah, okay, whatever. Why are you calling?”
“You’re gonna want to sit down for this, Buddy, are you sitting? Are you planted firmly on your ass?”
“My ass is firm,” Dustin joked back, a small ‘very firm’ chirped in the background.
“I… did not need to know that, never ever say that to me ever again. I hate you so much.”
Steve could practically hear Dustin rolling his eyes over the speaker. The kid was predictable, Steve could probably guess his every move on the other side of the phone.
“Yeah, yeah, I’m the love of your life, what do you want? Why do I have to be sitting?”
“Robin is the love of my life and you know it,” Steve said. He took a deep breath, preparing to give the best news of Dustin’s life. “So you know that band you’re obsessed with?”
“Do I know the band I’m obsessed with? Yes, Steve, I know Corroded Coffin.”
“Okay, you keep up this little attitude of yours and I won’t tell you I just got tickets for their show tomorrow,” Steve blurted out. He was half expecting Dustin to continue through more arguments about his attitude, completely bypassing what Steve just said. Of course, Dustin was never one to miss the important information.
It was silent on the other end.
Steve pulled the phone away from his ear, waiting a few seconds before the inevitable scream from the other end. He could hear Dustin yelling back and forth between asking Steve questions and relaying the information to Suzie. He wasn’t loud enough to hear any actual words or questions, but there was no way in hell Steve was going to put the phone back to his ear with Dustin going berserk on the line. He didn’t want to ruin his hearing before even stepping foot inside the concert venue, how ironic would that be?
“Dustin!” Steve shouted into the receiver to no avail, “Dustin… Dustin! I swear to god I will answer your questions but you have to ask them one at a time, bud.”
There was a deep breath, a few muffled reassurances from Suzie, and then it was quiet again. Steve hesitantly placed the phone to his ear, waiting for the first question.
“Steve… how the hell did you get tickets? The show was sold out! All the days are. I know, I checked!”
“Okay, so I… didn’t technically get tickets,” Steve cringed.
“… WHAT? YOU-,”
“Dustin! I swear to god, I’m getting us into the concert tomorrow.”
“How, Steven?? HOW are you getting us into a sold out concert tomorrow for the biggest band to perform in Indy in years, the day before opening night?”
“Okay first of all, never call me Steven again. Ever. You got that? Never ever. And second…,” he paused, mulling over his choice of words, “I uh… I know a guy who’s working the venue.”
Steve could only hear Dustin’s breathing over the speaker. He didn’t know if he broke the kid or if he was trying to decide if Steve could be trusted after nine years of friendship. Maybe Dustin thought he was delusional, he wouldn’t be the first person to think that tonight.
“Is this a rich person thing?” Dustin finally asked.
“A rich- Dude, I make $20 an hour, no this isn’t a rich person thing, Jesus Christ,” Steve muttered. A snort like a lawn mower revved from behind Robin’s bedroom door, and Steve contemplated the pros and cons of shaving her head in her sleep for the third time that night.
“Well sorry! Forgive me for not believing you!” Dustin shouted sarcastically, the earlier hysteria bleeding into his words again (though thankfully not as much as before). Steve told Dustin to take another deep breath before continuing.
“He told me to text him when we got there, they’ll let us through. I already told him we’re going tomorrow, he’s prepared and reassured me like three times that he’ll personally make sure we’re let in. Do you want to go or not? I swear to god, kid, I could still rescind the offer.”
“Steve if you take this back I will shove my hand so far up your ass-”
“Oh like you could take me, Henderson, I don’t think-”
“You lost to Jonathan, I think I could do just fine.”
“Sounds like you don’t want to see a concert tomorrow, I think what you mean to say is ‘Oh my god, Steve, this is the best news of my life, you’re the greatest guy ever, I can’t believe I know someone who can get me into a concert for my favorite little rock band’,” He taunted, raising his voice to a pitch that absolutely wasn’t Dustin’s, but he knew it would rial the kid up anyway.
Henderson’s put-upon sigh crackled through the receiver, and Steve couldn’t help the smile that tugged at his lips. Dustin could be exasperated all he wanted, Steve knew this was going to be an amazing experience for him, even if they had the shittiest seats possible.
“They’re metal, Steve. Metal.”
“Yeah, yeah, pick you up at 7!”
“This better not be a trick, or-,” Steve hung up before he got caught in another round of banter. Cutting Dustin off always brought Steve a sick kind of pleasure, the kid could go on and on and on, honestly it was self preservation. He headed to his room to finally sleep, kicking Robin’s door as he went. She would be spared from a buzz cut tonight, he was in a good mood.
I’ve started tagging these as ‘the upside downers’ because that’s what I’m naming Stobin’s band, if you want to follow that tag specifically! I also always tag helpimstuckwriting for any of my writing

Introducing: The Prologue of the Most Unhinged Steddie Fanfic I've Ever Written
(The full fic is currently unfinished and 30k words with highlights such as the Harrington 'Skank Week' and religious trauma)
“I… guess I get it. Objectively he’s…”
“You can say hot, Rob.”
“It’s weird to say it about a dude.”
“Even if it’s true?”
“Touche… but I thought he was with that guy he always talks about—Jake, or something.”
“So?”
“...So he’s taken.”
“Rob.”
“Oh—Steven. We talked about this—”
“But it’s Eddie.”
“How does that make it any better? You promised.”
“I promised I would stop competing for girls—this is Eddie.”
“You’re insane.”
“C’mon, Rob. I miss the thrill of the competition! I used to be so—”
“Shitty? Misogynistic? Arrogant?”
“Rob—”
“I’m not finished—lame? Horrible? Cruel? Stinky?”
“Now you’re just making things up.”
“You can’t fuck around with Eddie’s feelings just because you like winning games.”
“That’s not why.”
“Then why?”
Quiet.
“...Oh. Oh, so like—”
“Yeah.”
“Oh… since when?”
“A while. He’s just…”
“I get it, I think.”
“Yeah.”
More quiet.
“So? Do I have your blessing?”
“I can’t believe it but you actually do.”
“Let the games begin, baby. Slutty Steve is back.”
“Go shelf the returns, idiot.”

Robin’s First Date.
| 12:36pm |
“Wow, okay, I’m not taking advice from Mr. Polo for everyday of the week.”
“Hey, those were a gag gift—”
“Right, a gag gift you spent twenty minutes looking for. I got written up cause you couldn’t wear a Saturday on Tuesday.”
“I’m sorry I have standards.”
“Mm-hm.”
“Whatever. Come on—when have I ever steered you wrong? I’m off at 5, plenty of time before your date—”
“No! No. Not that I don’t appreciate it, cause I do and your great and all but...well...our styles don’t exactly mesh.”
“Right, well that’s cause one of us has eyes and one of us has clashing patterns, so—”
“Oh, and the stripes? They don’t ever—”
“Which is good for you! But I know what the ladies like, Bobbin. I also know what this lady likes. And I know what’s going to get you laid.”
“Gross—“
“So are you gonna let me help you or what?”
“I’m calling Eddie.”
“Eddie?! No—”
 12:57pm
“Munson Mansion. This is Eddie, trapped in the wine cellar, speaking.”
“Eddie, I need your help.”
“Oh, hey, hi, what’s up?”
“The date’s tonight and I don’t have anything to wear.”
“Okay...”
“Not anything, but what I wanted to wear was in the washer before it broke and now it’s not gonna be dry in time and everything else is too bright, or too boring, and I’m getting sweaty and maybe developing a rash which is just perfect, I’m going to show up red and gross and she’s never going to talk to me again. God, maybe I should just cancel—“
“Heeey there, settle down. Breathe, in—out, there you go.”
“Sorry.”
“Don’t worry about it. I’ll be over in 10.”
 3:09pm
“This is the Wheeler Residence. Looks like you’ve just missed us! Feel free to leave a message—“
 3:33pm
“Wheeler Residence, this is Karen speaking—“
 4:17pm
“This is Hop.”
“Oh. Um. HI Chief Hopper, or, Officer? Uh—“
“Who is this?”
“Robin. Buckley. Sir. Robin Buckley. I’m a friend of Steve’s?”
“Right.”
“Right. Right, uh yeah.”
“Well, he’s not here, so—“
“Right, right, no! I was, uh, calling for Jonathan? Is he—is he around?”
 4:21pm
“Robin?”
“Jonathan! Hey! Buddy...how’s it going?”
“Is everything alright?”
“Yeah, totally, why wouldn’t it be? Unless, everything’s not alright with you? Are you okay?”
“Yeah, everything’s fine. Just don’t get a lot of calls from you.”
“Right. Well, you know work. Busy, busy! Ha ha...”
“Okay...did you wanna talk? Or...”
“Yes! I did, I did...OW! Sorry, sorry, banged my knee against something annoying. So...I can’t do this, this was a terrible idea...well, you shouldn’t have encouraged me—”
“Hey, if you’re busy—“
“Sorry, that was..my dad! Yeah, he needs help with the car. Tire busted and he’s not strong enough to lift the wheels so he always asks me, cause you know. Guns of steel and all that. But we should talk more. Yeah! Okay.”
“Yeah. Definitely...”
4:55pm
“Family Video. This is Steve.”
“Steve.”
“Robin.”
“...”
“You need me to—“
“I need you to come over.”
“Yeah, that’s what I thought. What’s Eddie got you in?”
“Well...it’s creative?”
“Robin doesn’t want to go metal, even though metal clearly wants to go Robin. Hi sweetheart.”
“Hi babe. Rob, this is why you shouldn’t’ve asked him. He has terrible taste—“
“Ugh! You love this!”
“I do. For you. And more specifically, taking if off of you—“
“O.K. gross! Disgusting! Stop! Can we focus on me? I’m in a crisis!”
“Alright, alright. Let me clock out. Don’t let him near your scissors.”
6:14pm
“This is the Wheeler’s, it’s Mike.”
“Mike! Oh, Michael, thank God I thought I was gonna have to hangup on your mom again.”
“Robin? Why are you calling my house? Is someone in trouble?”
“No! Why does everyone keep assuming that? Don’t answer that. Listen, I need your help.”
“What? No, I have a campaign going.”
“It’ll take like two minutes—did he say a campaign?—then you can do whatever—no, don’t—What campaign?”
“Eddie?”
“What campaign? Unless I’m mistaken, and I rarely am—HA—we don’t have a Hellfire meeting scheduled till Friday. What is this? A mutiny?”
“No! No I promise! It’s just a one-shot, just to get Will back into things, I swear.”
“You swear, huh?”
“On my life! On The Knights of Mystic Fire!”
“Yeah, you better. I’ll let this slide if you help out Robin. No buts! Or Sir Miklan is getting disadvantage on every throw next session.”
“Fine. What do you want?”
“Can you go check and see what Nancy’s wearing?”
“What?!”
“Not like that! Just! We’re, uh, hanging out tonight and she didn’t tell me where we were going and I don’t know if I should bring a jacket, so just go and check, okay?”
“I’m not doing that.”
“What? Why?”
“It’s weird. Here, just talk to her yourself—“
“What—no, Mike—”
“Robin?”
6:19pm
“Nancy. Hi.”
“Hi, Robin.”
“...”
“I didn’t mean to hang up. I’m sorry.”
“It’s okay. I figured it was an accident or something.”
“Yeah. You know me, love slipping on things and hitting buttons I can’t..unclick..”
“Yeah, I do. It’s really cute.”
“Ah, well, I mean, if you say so. Most people find it annoying, but I mean, if you think—ah, well, thank you. I think your cute too, obviously. Um. I mean, not for that, also obviously, cause I don’t think you’ve tripped on anything in your life, uh, so—“
“Robin.”
“Yes!”
“Are you nervous?”
“Yeah! Could you tell?”
“Hm!”
“I don’t know what to wear. I had an idea, and then it vanished and nothing else in my closet felt right. Steve just kept trying to cinch my jeans cause he said that’s what girls like, and Eddie kept suggesting leather, but I sweat a lot in leather, you know? And then I called Jonathan—“
“You called Jonathan?”
“I know, Steve already chewed me out for that. I didn’t really talk to him anyway, I just didn’t know who else to call—I don’t have a lot of friends. But—I don’t know. The outfit needs to be perfect, cause the girl I’m going on the date with, is perfect. And...I really like her. A lot. Like, makes my head dizzy, a lot.”
“Oh, Robin.”
“That’s not a pitying ‘Robin’ is it?”
“No. It’s a ‘you’re very cute and I’m very excited for this date’ Robin. Look, don’t listen to Steve. I’m pretty sure the jeans are more about him getting to check out his own ass than anyone else, and Eddie’s into whatever everybody else isn’t. Just wear what you feel like. You could pull up in PJ’s and I’d be happy. I don’t want the date to be perfect, I want the date to be us.”
“Naaaancyyy! Oh my god that was so perfectly sweet.”
“Does that help?”
“Yeah, that makes me feel better. Still a little anxious, cause on a practical level I still don’t know what to wear, but I do feel better about the not-knowing.”
“Well...if it helps, I’m wearing purple. So you should wear something green, that way we match.”
“That’s smart. I love green.”
“I know.”
“You know?”
“Yeah, that’s why I wore purple.”
“You were trying to get us to match?! Nancy, do you have a crush on me or something?”
“Well I’m glad to see you’re feeling more confident. Even if it’s at my expense.”
“Ha-ha yeah. Okay, gotta run, I’ve got—oh my god, I’m gonna be late. Okay, I’ll see you at the diner—dressed! Bye, Nance!”
“Bye, Robin.”

robin’s relationship with el after starcourt hadn’t been bad, it just hadn’t been anything at all. in the haze of everything that came after, robin’s poorly timed comments on bones and where-they-may-or-may-not-have-been on the soccer field her sophomore year hadn’t remained important in el’s memory.
neither steve nor robin were that close to el, though. obviously steve had dustin and max, and robin totally thought erica was the coolest fifth grade she’d ever met; but with robin new to the game and steve usually subbing in with the twerps they weren’t particularly in with el. they still stopped by the byers in the days and weeks leading up to their departure. the party was congregating every day to eke out every minute of summer sun they could while they were still together, and robin was sitting out front in the passenger seat of the beamer nearly just as often. she hadn’t really been inside the house, but had sat up front while steve picked el and max up for the arcade. they’d probably play air hockey while el stayed slumped on the side of dig dug, watching max as she chewed her lip and focused on the screen.
air hockey was one of the only arcade games they could agree on after spending enough time there, surveying while waiting on dustin and lucas to haltingly show erica some pac-man. steve was a fan of the more physical ones, of course: he snagged tickets shooting hoops in the corner and racked up the highest pinball score on the karate kid-themed game. robin hadn’t really gone in the arcade that much before the summer, even though it was one of the only places in town with reliable air conditioning before the mall opened up. so she didn’t really have a preferred game beyond air hockey, which was fun with steve when they were both competitive and stagnating in finding a new job.
when max had slowed to a clunky pace on the dig dug cabinet, she and el wandered back to the air hockey table where she and steve were still sending the puck back and forth. they watched a round of the two of them trading goals and max half-heartedly heckled them. el drifted closer to the edge of the table, staring intently as they lunged and twitched their hands. she waited, and watched them slow to a stop when robin scored a point above steve and started cheering.
on their way out, robin trailed behind steve and max, trying not to eavesdrop on the little league soccer coach-style clap on the shoulder he gave her as part of his pep talk. el drifted up to her side, dragging her feet on the brightly colored carpet.
“what’s… your hand? you and steve. you match.”
robin startled in surprise and stared uncomprehendingly at the back of her hand. before too long el reached out a finger and pointed at the bracelet slowly loosening on her wrist from wear. it had been lime green and buttery yellow and a too-bright cobalt blue. now the yellow had gone a slightly sickly beige and the blue had dulled significantly, but it still gave her a little thrill to see steve’s matching bracelet.
they’d made them in that first awful week after the fourth, when steve hadn’t left the buckley’s house in four days and counting. they’d cycled through robin’s childhood collection of muppet movies and the old black and white classic she had grown up watching with her parents. mr buckley had come in from work one night when they had just started singin in the rain, and he had joined them for most of it while standing behind the armchair and resisting offers to sit down. they’d been snickering through bringing up baby, curled up on the couch in the middle of the day and still pretending they were A-Okay when robin realized they’d migrated through the entirety of the buckley’s front room furniture and most of the floor near the tv. robin liked the heavy comfort of being around steve, but her hands were starting to sweat where they were tucked up with steve’s, and she felt undeniably restless as she tapped her fingers on the back of his hand.
steve broke first. “it’s not that i’m like. uncomfortable. or even bored! but it is like ohmygod my legs are like lead weights right now.” with this, he flung his legs out in front of them, splaying out in front of the tv.
robin had groaned and slumped down onto his chest, then thought of the play-doh she kept in her desk for when she was working on difficult homework. she dropped to the floor with another groan, then sat up and dashed to her room, coming back with purple and teal-capped play-doh jars. they’d made little figurines and stars and hearts with it while the movie played out, and had scavenged robin’s room for craft supplies before slumping back in front of the tv with their spoils.
steve had gathered up robin’s shockingly extensive collection of construction and scrapbooking paper and a pair of scissors. robin had taken the embroidery floss out of the pale purple trunk in her closet, and scotch tape and the glue stick she kept in her backpack. they’d snipped and shaped and tied, and had ended the night with mostly matching bracelets and cheesy out of season valentines for tammy thompson and nancy wheeler.
for the bracelets they chosen a kermit-y lime green, a pale but warm yellow, and a navy blue that felt grossly familiar. robin showed steve how to make simple stripes and it felt like tying off a birthday present, or locking a door. they’d traded bracelets, and worn them every day since.
that was what el was pointing out. “oh well, you know… me and steve, we’re like each others party so.. we just thought we’d do something to you know… commemorate. or something. to celebrate getting each other.”
robin cringed at the word choice, but el didn’t seem to notice the potential accidental slight. el nodded seriously at this and looked ahead at max and steve, her eyes flickering around steve’s bracelet where it hung around his watch.
“i could show you? how to do them, i mean! i’ve still got some stuff left over for it, and you could take it on the car ride so you’ll have something to do! i heard it’ll be, like, a forever car ride, so i hope it’d help.” el met her eyes and nodded seriously once, before thanking her and giving her a small smile.
robin had kept that pale purple trunk in steve’s car until the next time el was a passenger, and had showed her the two styles she’d learned from her mom as a kid. el had chosen shades of pink and yellow for her first try, before moving on to something like steve and robin’s, only with a vibrant orange rather than yellow. she added a bright pink, and knotted the string into a thin band. el had beamed when she finished her first one, and robin had felt just a little bit better about seeing her off so soon.
by the end of the first week of the byer’s departure, robin received a letter via steve. el’s name was printed neatly in the corner over an address in california, but it had been addressed to robin at steve’s house, the only address el had been able to get. the letter was short and sweet and ended with an embroidery thread bracelet taped neatly to the bottom of the page. it was lilac and dark blue and a fun light orange, and the letter was signed love, el with a doodle of a sweet smiley face.
