Torn: Chapter 4

Story Summary: You start work as a make-up artist for The Umbrella Academy and meet two of the most handsome people you’ve ever worked with, both of them vying for your attention

Chapter Summary: After David’s unexpected actions, you talk to Robert and learn his intentions aren’t what you’d originally thought them to be.

Pull away. You’ve only known him two days. He’s your client. One voice said as my heart started beating faster.

Don’t push away what feels so right, stupid. The other voice said. I gave in to the second and leaned closer, breathless as he pulled away.

“Wow.” I sighed heavily, my eyes fluttering open.

“I’m sorry.” David muttered as his forehead pressed against mine.

“Don’t be. Please don’t be.” I whispered and looked into those soulful brown eyes.

“You probably think you should quit doing my make-up for the show. I shouldn’t have done that.” He sighed and walked away, pacing in front of me.

“Stop. I definitely don’t think that. I’m just a little surprised.” I explained. I was still trying to catch my breath from the kiss as I looked at him.

“Surprised?” He asked, stopping in front of me.

“Yeah, I just didn’t think…” I started before he walked over to me again. He wrapped his hand in my hair and kissed me again, harder and more powerful than before. I smiled nervously as the kiss broke, looking up at him again.

“You just didn’t think you were attractive enough?” He smiled, his eyebrow cocked as he looked at him. I nodded and broke eye contact with him. I could feel my whole body heat up as he lifted my chin gently.

“You are gorgeous and talented. You’ve turned my head. Robert’s mesmerized by your work. Justin thinks you’re the most beautiful soul he’s ever met. His exact words.” David whispered and ran his thumb over my cheek.

“You’re being a suck up.” I chuckled nervously, shuffling my feet.

“It’s all true.” He said with a smile, grabbing my hand gently. “I mean it. You caught my attention the first minute I laid eyes on you.” He cooed.

“Well, you caught my attention too.” I whispered and batted my lashes. “But there is something I need to do. Meet me back at the make-up trailer tonight?” I asked and patted his cheek.

“Yes, ma’am.” David chuckled with a wink before walking away.

I leaned against the back of the truck, rubbing my temple as I sighed. I could still feel his lips on mine, a fire still on my skin. I ran over what happened and smiled. He was so gentle and sweet with me that anything I had started to feel toward him felt right.

“Focus.” I muttered and walked away to find Robert. I laid eyes on him and waited with the crew until the scene he was filming with Aiden was done.

“Robert? Can I see you for a few minutes?” I called out, biting my lip.

“What can I do for you?” He asked quietly.

“Follow me.” I whispered and led him behind the make-up trailer. I looked up at him, his smile wide as I took a deep breath.

“Talk to me.” He chuckled and rubbed my arm gently.

“Do me a favor and be honest with me. Did you ask me out because you’re attracted to me?” I asked.

“W-Well, I-I..” He stuttered and ran a hand through his hair.

“Be honest. Please.” I murmured.

“I was actually hoping you would help me with Rachel. You are beautiful and lovely, but Rachel is my type.” He replied, grabbing my hand. “I hope I haven’t upset you.” He added with a concerned look.

“Not at all. I’m a little relieved actually.” I laughed, releasing my stress as I looked at him.

“So, you’ll help me with Rachel? I’d offer my help with David, but by the way he was smiling a few minutes ago, I don’t think you need it.” Robert said with a sly smile.

“Of course, I’ll help you. I already know she thinks you’re cute.” I laughed and hugged him.

“You are an absolute saint. I’ll see you later?” He asked with a smile.

“Not too much. I’m going to dinner with David again.” I blushed as I said it.

“You guys are good for each other. Trust me.” Robert whispered as he hugged me.

“Maybe you, me, Rachel, and David will go on a double date sometime.” I chuckled and tapped his chest before walking away.

“I look forward to it!” He called after me as I walked into the make-up trailer with a wide smile.

“I haven’t seen you smile like that since you hooked me up with Daveed. Spill. Tell me everything.” Emmy gasped as she saw me.

“I can’t tell you everything. But let’s just say we’ve only been working for two days and big changes are coming.

“For who?” She asked, her jaw almost on the floor.

“Rachel and I.” I replied and wiggled my eyebrows.

“Are you telling me…” She started before Justin walked in.

“Emmy, they need you. Something about your dance scene.” He said before walking out.

“We’ll talk later.” She giggled and ran out.

I laughed out loud for the first time since yesterday, trying to wrap my head around everything. I kissed David. I’m going to help my best friend get a date with Robert. It was only the second day and there was already so much happening.

I got myself together as a knock on the door pulled me out of the trance I was in. My heart that had just started slowing down began to beat faster as David walked in, a smile on his lips.

“Hey.” He chuckled and walked toward me. He looked even better in his costume, the light in the trailer reflecting off the hilts of his knives.

“I hadn’t seen you in your costume yet. It looks good.” I said and bit my lip.

“Then maybe you should spend more time on set and not talking to Robbie.” He whispered and stood in front of me.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” I said innocently.

“I saw you talking to him. Something I need to know about?” He asked quietly.

“Are you jealous?” I scoffed before walking away to make sure Rachel wasn’t around.

“No. Just curious.” He mumbled.

“Well, if you must know.” I sighed, crossing my arms and sitting down. “I was talking to Robert because I thought both of you liked me. Turns out he was being friendly because he wants my help. He likes Rachel. Rachel’s my best friend.” I explained as he looked down at me.

“That makes sense.” David responded as he started playing with the ends of my hair.

“Does that put your mind at ease?” I asked, standing up and facing him.

“A lot.” He smiled and rubbed my back softly. “Now, about dinner tonight. I just found out I’ll be here super late filming. Our best bet is going to be to grab something in between and eat here. Since you’re probably going to be here too.” He explained, his fingers brushing mine gently.

“Trust me, I’ll be here. Rachel is generally a night owl and I love her, but I don’t want anyone messing up the work I’ve done on you.” I whispered and ran a finger over the strap belt on his chest.

“See you in a bit?” He asked as his fingers interlaced with mine.

“See you in a bit.” I cooed and smiled. I watched him walk away and sighed, feeling genuinely happy for the first time in years.
