wada sez: Reader, there was no Part 2. Per remarks by Rob Queen on his own repost for the strip, he’d originally hoped to have an official IDW artist draw the strip, but obviously this didn’t happen. This is the first strip in the archive to be inspired by More than Meets the Eye; part of what I find interesting about Mosaic as a time-capsule is that it perfectly predates the enormous influence James Roberts and John Barber had on the franchise and the fandom. If Mosaic happened just a few years later, it’d be 90% MTMTE by volume. Even this strip feels quite tonally different to most modern fanworks in this vein! Even at the time, Brainstorm’s briefcase was obviously foreshadowing for something in the comic, so I’m not sure why Queen thought he could safely comment on it; suffice to say, Prowl did not commission it.

THE BAD SEED RETURNS (2022)

😿Dog/Pet Dies

In my Bad Seed well (Part I, Part II, Part III) I found one more movie, The Bad Seed Returns. Made five (5) years after the first film and when our titular character is now fifteen (15) years old. Vastly similar to the first film though I must admit I missed Rob Lowe. It seems like they took more from the original film this time but too little too late.

Our movie begins with a bang again but this time Emma is the one directly committing the violence to the animal that dies within the first five (5) minutes of our movie. Our not-so-little Emma frequently practices what she is going to say in front of her mirror to perfect it for others. It is very creepy to say the least. There may have been a shadow of this in the first movie but in this film she does it constantly almost like an alien or a robot who needs to practice being human. It is so off-putting. Things are working pretty well for Emma other than her uncle who wants to send her to a boarding school halfway across the country which Emma is NOT happy about. She also isn’t a fan of her younger cousin who nearly has an accident by the pool… hmm… ANYWAY.

Things are getting complicated at school because Emma wants to be Dance Captain but she also is being plagued with a girl who went to her old school, the one where Emma kinda killed that little boy. But no one knew that but her dad and she got him killed so all is well, right? WRONG. This new girl is onto Emma and that is stressing her out! Things are much harder for the teen than they were when she was just a kid, she has to manipulate her environment much more to get what she wants. She collapses a car on top of her uncle while he is working on it, whistling away while she works. He nearly died but made a miraculous recovery to Emma’s chagrin. Next her strongest competitor for Dance Captain’s dog goes missing and is found mutilated. This doesn’t knock her out of the running though and she ends up winning which is devastating to Emma who then messes with her medicine and causes her own friend to have a seizure and DIE. 

Emma is so obviously a psychopath it is wild that it takes so long for her to be discovered as one, especially after the events of the first film, just too many unlucky things happen around that girl to consider it coincidence. The Aunt is finally coming wise but she leaves her very vulnerable husband with her probably killer niece? Wack. This results in Emma inviting over the girl from her old school, the one who thinks she is a killer, and Emma drugs her hot cocoa (like father like daughter) then sets the house on fire with the uncle in it. The Aunt gets home barely in time to try and drag the uncle out but they both perish. Emma makes it out “clean” again, blaming her crazy classmate for setting the “suicidal” fire. She and her young cousin are the only survivors and Emma is more than ripe to kill again.
