Maar door alle labels met hetzelfde ERP-systeem te laten werken, één uniforme way of working te introduceren, collegiaal werk aan te dragen en de backoffice diensten te centraliseren, kwam het bureau er snel bovenop. “Digital Agency Group is een fundament dat je laat omgaan met de dynamiek van constant veranderende markten.” Ook de verhuizing naar Rotterdam is een stap. Onlangs werd de bovenste verdieping van het Hufgebouw betrokken. Een aansprekende locatie waar de komende jaren veel vertrouwelijke gesprekken zullen worden gevoerd met collega-ondernemers. Onderwerp: strategisch samenwerken. Of, concreet, overname van de meerderheid van aandelen. De Vries: “Onze expertises liggen op het gebied van digitale media, creatie, IT en data. Als je naar digitale media kijkt, dan bestaat voor bureaus het inkoopvoordeel niet meer. Op tv misschien nog wel, maar op digitale media gaat het alleen nog om performance. En creatie. Dat is het enige waarmee je nog onderscheidend kan zijn. Het verschil tussen above en below the line bestaat niet meer.” Van Laar over het soort bedrijven dat ze bij dat profiel zoeken: “Ze moeten complementair zijn aan onze huidige expertisegebieden. Uiteraard op een gelijkwaardig niveau werken en handelen als de andere bedrijven binnen onze groep. Dat is essentieel. We zoeken ook bedrijven die het glazen plafond hebben bereikt. Als ondernemers hebben we zelf ook in die fase gezeten en weten hoe dat is. Als onderdeel van een groep ben je sterker. Dat bieden wij.” Overnames worden gefinancierd uit eigen middelen en met de bank. Er is geen ander extern kapitaal. Alle labels Digital Agency Group hebben eigen management en moeten aan de winst bijdragen. Een overname betekent niet het einde van het ondernemerschap. “Elk label heeft zijn eigen identiteit, is wel onderdeel van het totaal. Om dit te benadrukken krijgt elk label de pay-off: ‘We are Digital Agency Group’.” De entiteit Digital Agency Group is meer dan alleen een overkoepelende naam. Naar de markt toe is het ook een organisatie om gesprek, pitch of leveranciersafspraak mee te maken, maar dan wel met daarbinnen meerdere expertises.
