he’s so grateful for this break in what has otherwise been quite a stressful month, but he can’t say he’s entirely thankful for his apparently non-existent social skills and lack of party experience once he’s actually inside the venue, in costume and looking around the room at all the people he’ll never have the guts to talk to. he’s standing awkwardly at the side, back pressed to the wall the best he can without damaging any part of his costume. ( after all, he doesn’t know how generous the company is feeling — are these outfits theirs now? either way, seungcheol is too respectful. ) members of convex pass by him every so often, stop to chat, then go on their way and he can’t blame them. for some, this is the best chance for them to see their friends again between their busy schedules, not to mention that it’s a chance to meet scandal-free. but seungcheol doesn’t know anyone here that he hasn’t already spent the last two years training with to debut, so he’s perhaps a little out of place. 

“hey, jihoonie.” he mumbles as the younger falls into place beside him. he offers him a sip of his drink before realising he already has one. “are you having a good time?” his head tilts ever so slightly, his gums just poking through his smile. “you know parties aren’t really my scene, but the food... so worth it.”

he's excited. despite the departure news, the amount of changes and adjustments they've had to make-- and despite the few negative reviews they've received from netizens, woohyun knows that the halloween party is definitely what he needs to up his spirits a bit. he spends a lot of time trying to figure out what to do; to go all out, or keep it simple. try and find something else or pair up with someone. thankfully, yixing didn't mind matching up with him-- and woohyun's bouncing in his spot, looking around at all of the costumes and attendees. everyone is so cool to look at, everyone is so fun and scary and adorable, and woohyun knows this is exactly what he needed after everything this month.

"some people really went all out..." he breathes in awe, playing with the strap of his goggles idly, before twisting and turning at the leader. he grins widely, happy as he nearly bounces in place. "i think we look really great, though. especially you, yixing-ah~"

《 ★ rkjoohyvn 》 he doesn’t recognize the costume at first and it isn’t because of the general obstruction his costume creates. as heavy as the headgear had become, he got aware with taking it off for parts of the night, lugging it around to proudly show off the full costume whenever prompted. when he can’t figure it out and ends up asking one of the group members, he’s all oh’s and aa’s until a bigger question forms and he’s laughing at himself for not thinking about it first. because he might not have been able to figure out who she was dressing up as at first, but he certainly knows who she is. they’ve crossed paths enough times for yixing to recognize her right away and he calls her by name when he approaches, quick to cover it up with her role for the night too. “aa, instead of apples and witches, we have a lovely peach and the beloved tifa lockheart. do you think they named her knowing she would steal away so many hearts?” cheesy, he knows, but she grew up with minho from what he remembers so he can’t be as bad. 

“wait...” brows scrunching up, he looks around her. “are you... i thought this party was for idols only. did they invite people from the mgas too? aa, i don’t mean that it’s not nice to see you again but... are you here with someone then?” no one would dare bring a date either, right? not to an industry event like this with all the media coverage roaming about. he couldn’t imagine it.

DATE: October 31

they were told by their manager that many important people were going to be present at the party. it wasn’t a time for them to let loose (not really). press were going to be there, ceos, people of the industry but most importantly: other groups. being the social butterfly she was, she had multiple friends who were in other idol groups. the party was an opportunity to actually catch up with her friends after such a long time apart. texting and occasional video chats worked mildly but everyone was busy with their own schedules. sometimes it was hard. having a night to hang out in person wasn’t something to give up, even if they were being watched closely throughout the night.

upon arrival, sohee is sure bow at any person she encounters. it’s hard to tell who is who when everyone is dressed up for the party. it would be a shame if sohee didn’t bow and it turned out that the persons he disrespected was a ceo or something. for the first thirty minutes of the party she settles at the k.arma table just to keep up the appearance that she isn’t too eager to mingle. it was important to retain her image even if she so badly wanted to say hi to her friends. she made conversation with her members, texting her other friends to make sure they arrived first before she got up to wander around listlessly.

when per_se is settled, she texts jungwoo to meet her by the snack table. remembering they were in costume, she reminds him she was dressed like an overwatch character. just so he didn’t accidentally go up to some other girl thinking it was her. sohee got up right after the message said delivered. hanging out by the sweets was her best bet. it was easy to spot the treats but also made it easy for people to congregate and engage in conversations. she had to contain her excitement seeing him again after so long. she realises they have so much to catch up on and they have to find someone to make it work in the allotted time of the party without spending the entire night together.

A casual mic check makes the guests stop their conversations and turn their heads to the small stage where a Samsung Group’s representative is ready to make an exciting announcement. He’s a zombie version of a Joseon scholar and asks for everyone’s attention because he’s about to announce the ‘Best Dressed’ title to the most creative idol of the night. “I believe everyone is curious about the mysterious prize, so I will reveal it first. The winner will be granted a three-nights trip to Maldives for two, all expenses covered by Samsung.” He gives them a moment to react to the news and create suspense. “Kim Jinwook, congratulations!” Applauses follow the announcement and Jinwook is invited up to receive the symbolic prize. Photographers register the moment and finally allow Kim Jinwook to return to the party. 

the halloween party is the most fun he’s had in a long time, as far as idol schedules go. jinwook’s been enjoying it since the minute that convex arrived, mingling with other idols, admiring their stylists’ handiwork, and making the most of the free food and beverages along the way.

by the end of the night, he’s forgotten about the competition element entirely. when the zombie-representative reminds everyone of the little contest, jinwook is all too excited to scan the crowd, curious about the big winner. only for the spotlight to land on himself. “what—” his reaction is genuine shock, and jinwook brings both hands to his face, as his jaw drops. all he has time to do is mumble it should’ve been you? at seungcheol before he is pushed to make his way on stage, quickly adjusting his cowboy hat as he goes.

jinwook glows afterward, making sure to sufficiently show off the award, basking in the spotlight no matter how unsure he is whether it’s deserved. his mind is buzzing with the stipulation, trip for two. several people come to mind — seungcheol, his costume partner, for one — and he wishes he could ask them all, but there’s one woman he thinks deserves it most. at the very least, he wants to ask her first.

soon, he ducks out to make the phone call, hoping she’ll answer despite the late hour. “umma..?” when he hears his mother’s voice, jinwook clutches the phone with both hands, pressing it close to his face to block out the noise. “mom, i.. i won a prize! at the halloween party!” he closes his eyes and lets the distant wave of cooing and support wash over him, an easy expression of contentment on his face. “yeah, it’s.. it’s a big one.” he hasn’t even gotten to the best part yet. jinwook grins even wider. “do you know where maldives is?”

OOC: Congratulations! Kim Jinwook won the costume contest at Samsung Wonderland ‘19 and will receive a three-nights trip to Maldives for two. As explained later, all expenses (lodging and flight) will be covered by Samsung Group. Kim Jinwook has a year to claim the prize and it can be scheduled as he desires as long as it doesn’t conflict with promotional months.  Any other question regarding the prize should be sent to Event Mods Bianca or Gab, as well as the ooc notification of his decision.
