Can’t Live Without You
In the middle of preparing Kaeun’s gift, Manager Siwan calls Wendy for a meeting. Hugo was officially out of the company, so she wonders whether this has something to do with that. Perhaps the higher ups have found out and that’s also why Hugo was gone? As much as she wants to think it’s only really health reasons, she also can’t help but be paranoid. When she enters the meeting room, she’s surprised, not to mention relieved when the atmosphere in the room isn’t as grim as she expected.
Instead she receives congratulations and a demo and lyrics are handed to her. It’s for an upcoming drama called “The Entertainer” and she has yet another OST to add to her name. Apparently, several idols will be starring in it, including her very good friend Kangjoon. At least, that’s what manager Siwan has gathered from the production team. Wendy almost hugs the manager out of sheer excitement, but she controls herself. Instead, she bounces back into the dorms with all her excitement.
Listening to the demo, the song is probably the most dramatic one she has gotten so far. It is also probably the most vocally demanding one with all the high notes and vocal runs in it. There is also a rap part, that thankfully, she doesn’t have to do. Otherwise, she probably would have been murdered in the recording room when D-Day comes.
Singing for dramas never gets old. Wendy’s mom is an avid drama-watcher, so this is one way for her to show her mom that she’s doing things. After all, idol music isn’t her mother’s thing. Her parents admitted that they only stream AND*ROMA’s songs out of obligation to her. Wendy knows that, after all, they aren’t into idol music. However, both parents watch dramas, so that’s another way for them to support her too. It’s also a more agreeable medium for them.
There’s not much time to practice, as they are also in the middle of promotions. She contents herself with practicing in waiting rooms, in the car, and in the dorms. She almost feels bad for the other members having to hear this song again and again, but she doesn’t really have much time. Wendy knows she has to do this perfectly, especially if she wants more producers to notice her and want to work with her again.
D-Day finally comes, and Wendy comes to the recording studio still dressed in her stage outfit from M! Countdown. She gifts the members of the producing team vitamin drinks and rolls of kimbap. Recording goes as smoothly as it possibly can, at least as smoothly as it can go.
How fitting that this song comes in at this time in her life. It’s not like she and Hugo broke up, but it’s difficult not to have him here anymore. It’s a song that refuses to let go and begging to be saved. Wendy hates that she can somewhat understand the feelings behind the song. She may be strong, independent, and not need a man, but she misses seeing Hugo more than she likes to admit.
Ugh. Even her thoughts are beginning to sound like a K-drama. Despite this, Wendy supposes that it’s good for recording. Especially for a song that’s as powerful and dramatic as this one. She has to bring all the power and feeling she can incorporate.
Sensing that Wendy is overthinking, the producer reminds her to calm down. “You’re here because I think you can do a good job with the song, Gyeoul,” the producer reminds her with a laugh. “Go a bit easy on the feelings though. It’s getting in the way of your breathing. But so far so good.”
Wendy follows his advice. She relaxes a little bit and finds herself breathing much better, thus the high notes coming out more naturally. She tries not to let her relief show until she’s asked to come out again. With this positive mood in mind, Wendy uses this to carry her through the rest of recording.
Once it’s done and the producer lets her listen to how it will all sound, Wendy can’t help but ask the other drama staff for any hints on the plot and why it calls for a dramatic song with a lot of tension like this one. Regardless, she records a supportive message for the drama all the same, making sure to leave an extra special message for Kangjoon oppa who was making his acting debut.
“Please check out my song ‘Can’t Live Without You’, and please be sure to give “The Entertainer” lots of love and high ratings!”

⭐️ — my dear rapper.
@rkhugo
week two is perhaps the most stressful seven days meiqi has ever experienced. minus that one time her cousin was in the hospital, and that time she failed her first ever audition, and when she—okay, so maybe it’s not the worst, but it’s definitely in the top ten, because the extent of meiqi’s rapping skills is her ability to follow along with a drake song which, even then, is more of a monotonous way of singing rather than showcasing actual skills. how the fuck is she supposed to manage one stanza, let alone a whole performance?
it’s the second day of the week and she still hasn’t even decided on a song. frankly speaking, meiqi doesn’t think she can keep up with the likes of the hip hop artists whose music she enjoys. she needs a second opinion if she doesn’t want to be eliminated from the sn project due to incompetence.
meiqi finds herself in front of hugo. oh, her trusted hugo. he’s her only hope. “hey, hugo. my friend. my creative soulmate. you know, i don’t think i’ve ever told you how nice your hair looks? or how well of a rapper you are? or... i don’t know, how sweet it is that you’re always willing to help your friends?”

Bouncing with the Enemy
@rkhugo
Standing a bit away from it, Seulgi was taking in one of the bounce houses the festival had provided for entertainment. She really only saw kids going on it, which made her a little nostalgic for her younger days where she wouldn’t feel so self-concious about that sort of thing. Because honestly? It looked fun. She hadn’t been in one of those in a long time and she really wanted to just go right in and go for it.
Studying the castle from the outside was making her lips turn to a slight pout as she watched the pure joy some of the children had jumping around in it. She finally broke her gaze and looked to her side, seeing a male had wandered over to the area as well. “It looks like a lot of fun, doesn’t it?” she asked, not sure if the guy would mind her talking to him or not. “I kind of want to go in, even if it’s not meant to be for someone our age. Is that weird?”

━━━━━━━ & ! ☾ AUGUST EVALUATIONS , . . . CRAZY / 4MINUTE
FEATURING: BAEKHYUN ✖︎ HYOJONG ✖︎ RACHEL ✖︎ HUGO ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
he’s used to having eyes on him. from the time that hyojong was a child, making the neighbours laugh with his antics or, as he grew, made their eyes draw with fondness to all his talents, he’s always craved the affection that comes with putting on a show. the ability to make an audience feel something that maybe, they wouldn’t ordinarily feel: wonder, happiness, excitement, all of it has been something dear to him since he was a young boy still learning about himself. that’s how it all turned into a dream.
and the dream is being realized, slowly but surely - one step at a time. with each evaluation, hyojong can feel himself grow stronger as a performer, and maybe they don’t think he’s ready yet, but something tells him that he will be one day. one day, it’ll be the royal boys time to shine.
thus leads them to this evaluation. he’s not a stranger to eyes on him, so the idea of being the center in a performance isn’t one too daunting. after practicing with rachel, baekhyun, and hugo all month, he’s feeling ready. hugo may not be the best dancer, rachel may have teased him once, and maybe he feels a little bad that baekhyun with his voice like a nightingale didn’t get a bigger part but he’s feeling confident that they can all at least put on a show that’ll catch the eye.
that’s what this is about, isn’t it?
hyojong has taken on more lines than most of the members, since he’s taken two parts in jiyoon and hyuna’s rap roles. he thinks with his odd high tone rap, he matches their parts well and it’ll give him more time in the center as the focus of the song. it’s part of the reason why he chose crazy, because he knows the song would sound off if he tried taking the part of a rapper with a deeper tone. even if hyojong seems a little bit dazed or airheaded at times, he thinks more often about everything - he thinks in details.
as the music plays, it’s all power moves and body waves. the thing about hyojong is that he knows how to use expression well; wild, taunting faces accompany lyrics and the twist of bodies. there’s only one slight twist to the choreography and to the lyrics, during one of jiyoon’s parts. a constant rap to prove she’s a crazy ass bitch more than likely, hyojong had the idea instead to use his members to his advantage. a slight lyric change -
i’m the crazy boy in here, you’re like gossip girl; and he takes rachel by the chin, body close. this is where she teased him during practice, because they didn’t know each other well and he was obviously a little shy no matter how many acting classes he’s taken by now. but in this moment, he’s no longer an awkward boy with his hands, instead he’s in charge and swiping his thumb across her chin dangerously close to her lips when he says hey, call my girlfriend.
and then things are back to normal, the same choreography and the same lyrics. it’s meant to be a powerful performance, one to shock and awe. finally, when the song is coming to an end and hyojong knows it, on his face is the craziest look that he can muster - taunting, smirking, and hardly one that anyone who knows him would recognize. the final move is a pop of his chest with the raise of his arms and as the music ends, his hands fall slowly to his hips with the look still on his face.
today, with this performance, hyojong thinks he’s improved far more than what he thought at the beginning of the month. and even if no one else thinks it matters, it means a great deal to him.

Though My Heart Tells Me
AND*ROMA Gyeoul February 2020 Schedule Practicing and Recording “Though My Heart Tells Me” (Love Poten OST)
When their manager calls in Wendy for a meeting, she isn’t quite sure what to expect. There’s so many things that could happen. It could be about her re-entry to Yonsei, something she did... God forbid she got in trouble. However all those fears are laid to rest as soon as the bomb drops on her.
It’s the soundtrack for a web drama that will be airing soon, and someone in the team wants her to sing it.
Holy shit.
This has to be some joke right? She almost says as much to the manager, but she keeps quiet. For a rookie like herself, she hadn’t expected to catch the eye, or in this case, ears of any producers. She It doesn’t feel real until the lyrics and the audio demo are handed to her. She can’t help the giddy smile she lets slip once she confirms that this isn’t a dream.
This is the first time she gets to do something on her own, without the other girls. She has to represent the team well.
Holy shit intensifies.
Recalling her list of goals for this year, one of the items on her list was to record an OST. After all, that was one way to get her name (and her group’s) out to people who don’t pay attention to idols. She wasn’t exactly skilled at variety and wouldn’t be the first choice for acting roles. Besides, singing is what she does best anyway. Wendy has always wanted to sing for dramas. Although this is a web drama, she’s assured that she’s heading in the right direction.
She listens to the demo as she studies the lyrics. It’s a sad, emotional ballad about a love that’s trying to be saved. The more Wendy listens to it, the more she wonders how the drama will go. Apparently, it stars Royal subaenim of CONVEX and her friend Sejeong. She makes a mental note to send Sejeong a congratulatory email, in case the other girl still doesn’t have a phone.
She gets to work on mastering her lyrics, both for the soundtrack and their comeback single. It can be a bit confusing mixing up both at first. There had been instances wherein she accidentally sang the lyrics of “Cushion” to the tune of the soundtrack... leading to comedic results. Sometimes, it had been the other way around, to even more bizarre results.
On recording day, Wendy brings over energy drinks and food to give to the song’s producers and the drama staff present at the recording. After all, she has to make a good impression on them. She asks both the producer and the drama staff as many questions as she can just to get a better feel of the song’s story and message. However, when she asked for any potential spoilers, all Wendy got was a shrug from the song producer and a secretive smile from the drama crew.
If Wendy thought memorizing and getting the song right was the challenge, she ended up being proven wrong. She had been focused on singing the song correctly that she hadn’t had time to internalize the feelings required for her to sing it. “I know you can do it,” the director says. “Imagine yourself going through a difficult relationship that you think is still worth saving. You’re desperate, but you’re still strong.”
It’s particularly difficult trying to capture the emotions of the song, as it’s not exactly something she has experienced. However, Wendy likes to think she has enough imagination. Wendy blinks as she tries figuring out what the producer is saying. All relationships are difficult, aren’t they?
However, it suddenly hits her. It’s difficult to have a relationship with her line of work, isn’t it? She realizes that one day, Hugo oppa can wake up and decide that he’s tired of her. After all, she isn’t the easiest to love. She’s not affectionate. She can’t express her emotions well. Wendy is cold, rational, and realistic. She lacks the warmth and softness required to be a good girlfriend despite her best efforts.
“We can’t break up, we can’t get farther apart” she sings to the producer, trying to imagine she was saying it to Hugo oppa.
“That’s the feeling we’ve been looking for!” the producer says, relief evident in his voice. “Keep going. You’re on the right track.”
Wendy lets out a sigh of relief. At least they can finally record the song without her having to overthink the emotions. Now that she knows how she’s supposed to sound, she confidently steps back in the live room.
Wendy completes recording the song after a few changes, restarts, and technical difficulties. One take had her laughing when the producer accidentally shouted into the microphone after a drama staff member stepped on his foot.
It’s difficult imagining herself in the shoes of the song’s persona, but the thought of losing Hugo oppa scares her more than she’d like to admit. Wendy’s always tried being more affectionate and loving. It’s something she has to consciously practice.
No more, you can’t know about this Even if you’re a bit far away, that’s enough for me Because my precious love, my hidden love Resembles you so much Even though my heart tells me
“And that was perfect! No more. We’re done here!” the producer says as soon as the last notes of the song fade away. Wendy smiles in relief as she finally lets go of the sad and heavy emotions she had been keeping with her while recording the song.
Wendy finally steps out of the live room, bowing in thanks at everyone who helped with the recording. She makes sure to thank everyone for their hard work, expressing her best wishes for the upcoming web drama.
“Royal sunbae, fighting! Sejeong sunbae, fighting! Love Poten, fighting!”

} by a thread [ SNM2W4 ]
There's something about the crowd waiting on the other side of the stage, something electrifying. Ricky's been in the midst of it several times, and it gets no less electric, not when every audience is new, not when every performance is different, though sometimes exactly the same. There are at least three cameras pointed in their faces and a stylist makes a round, dabbing a swatch of powder on Ricky's nose before disappearing into the shadows of backstage.
The cameramen don't say anything, but Ricky, who spent his childhood in front of silent cameramen, can feel the question hanging impatiently behind their lenses.
“I'm nervous,” he answers them, into the nearest camera, with an almost smile, aftter pulling his eyes away from the nearest monitor, bobbing once, up and down, on the balls of his feet. The lip balm they gave him is a little sticky, and tastes vaguely of strawberries and cream, and he has to remind himself every five minutes to resist the nervous temptation to chew it all off.
He has plenty if anxieties, even now, as they wait on deck for the cue to go, when almost nothing can be changed. What if they'd picked the wrong songs? What if they'd rehearsed it with the wrong moves or energy or words? What if they were all doomed for the humiliation of falling from so high to the lowest they could? They should've picked different songs, he was sure of it, fixated on the absurd, useless thought, played it over and over again in his mind until strawberry cream was back between his teeth where it didn't belong.
And then something, someone, grabs his hand as they ascended the steps to the stage, yanking him out of his anxious musings like a fishhook in his lip. He glances down at the hand then looks up from it to the face attached to it, releasing his lip from his teeth as if he's embarrassed to be caught chewing. It's Jungwoo holding his hand, which feels dissonant with reality, and yet somehow comforting; before, it was easy to compartmentalize his own future as the only future that mattered, as distinct from the futures of his peers. Now, the four of them, Hugo, Huidong, Jungwoo, Ricky, had been locked into one future together, if only for a month, and would now have to dive into it all at once, headfirst.
Just as quickly as it had made its presence known, the hand was gone, and the team filled the stage with four bodies set physically apart, yet tethered together by the threads of fate and electricity pulsing through the air, readying themselves (as best as they could) to take the leap.

i told you so ;
everyone’s first thought following the assembly probably was something along the lines of: fucking finally.
though give or take the amount of profanities along with the main sentiment. sunmi definitely was amongst those who felt as though something like this was long overdue. however she couldn’t help but feel a bit cheated. there’s nothing but questions for what’s to come for the next 3 months. only that things were going to happen. there were no guarantees and worst of all, no hopes to any answers to their questions. despite the anticipation, sunmi was a bit rightfully trepidation concerning the project.
it was painfully obvious that sunmi didn’t carry the same excited energy as most others did. rather than burst at the seems with ideas and anticipations, sunmi merely hangs back. she doesn’t expect this to make her a target for conversation from anyone. in fact, she expects people to steer clear because of this. however that’ll never be a deterrent from a certain chipper nova boy. not even sunmi’s worst moods could ever keep him away. the moment he has his sight locked onto her, sunmi knows she’s in for a conversation with no escape.
