Someone linked me to some pages from the comics "Spock Reflections" and the short of Regeneration by OTOY, and to say I'm devastated is not enough to describe it. Spock's process of Kirk's death is not even highly sad or angst, and I think that's what gets me?? They treated this with such reverence and care?? As you may know I'm a newbie in the Star Trek fandom so things such as Kirk being presumed dead before his actual death escaped my knowledge so when Spock receives Picard's message it just feel like cruel?? Imagine you thought your soulmate for years, and suddenly they tell you they were alive in another universe just to follow to learn they passed away.

And then the damn 2 minutes of Regeneration that just hits you like a truck. How they show you an old Spock in Veridian III, a fraction of second the Enterprise-B on flames and cut to young Spock how a slight tilt of his head feels like something snapped inside him.

They tell you Vulcans aren't emotional, but those mf feel so much and thrive on telepathic bonds being T'hy'la the rarest and most profound of them all, and you lose it twice. "I know it's illogical" Spock says as he brings Jim remains to his childhood home in Riverside.

Idk the whole thing feels so pure, so intimate... There's no sadness to see or sad music to hear, just reverence, care and love for someone that meant so much in Spock's life and to the ppl who watched/read Star Trek whose life James T. Kirk also changed that it just brings tears to my eyes. Is the perfect farewell to such figure and character as Captain Jim Kirk.

I’m sitting here in my office pondering on the crossroads of my career path. Ever since I was in high school I dreamed of becoming a history teacher. In fact, I wrote to a historian (who is HELLA conservative, wack, and we won’t talk about her lmao) about working for her for free because I LOVED the idea of digging through archives. 

I went to community college and religiously met with Dr. McGowan to talk history. I remember being so HYPED that I found history books from 1899 and bandaids from 1943 (ew) that I thought he would find just as interesting as I did (which I don’t think he did but he humored me). I helped start the history club at NVC, dealt with WAY too much male (lowkey incel) energy as one of the VERY FEW females into history, and transferred with the AA-T in History with the goal that I was going to take McGowan’s job one day. 

I transferred at UC Davis and fell in love with a different kind of history. Filipino American History had me in a mf CHOKEHOLD and it was the HILL I WAS WILLING TO DIE ON. You want me to go to Detroit and risk my mf life to do research on the Manongs? Fuck yeah, sign me up B!! You want me to sit in a room full of snooty ass know-it-alls for 3 hours to measure our academic dicks and see who knows more? FINE, I GUESS. I jumped all the hurdles, did all the rituals, and finally WROTE THE DAMN THESIS. 

Now what? I think, in my mind, I thought that getting into the PhD was THE END -- not a path. Now I’m here, I just got accepted to UC Riverside’s History PhD program and yo, just to be HELLA REAL, I’m freaking out. And not even in the whole OMG I CAN’T BELIEVE I DID IT I’M SO FUCKING RAD YADJFJHDALKFHJDKFJHA. I mean, WHAT AM I GOING TO DO UPROOT MY ENTIRE LIFE IN THE BAY AREA TO MOVE TO THE STOCKTON OF SOCAL?! And for what?! 

Like I said, I’m sitting in my office, in the nice chill San Mateo region living my best gadam life. I’m in my own office, I make coffee every morning, I sit at my desk and I bullshit with my coworkers, talk to students, deal with the institution in a manageable way, and I go home to my cat who will watch tv with me until bedtime. I’m genuinely happy where I am. So WHY. THE. FUCK. WOULD I LEAVE ALL OF THIS TO GO TO RIVERSIDE, CUT MY SALARY IN HALF, GET TALKED DOWN TO BY SNOOTY ACADEMICS WHO’VE NEVER HAD SEX BEFORE PROBABLY, LIVE WITH FUCKING ROOMMATES, AND SAY GOODBYE TO THE SOCIAL LIFE I HAVE UP HERE TO DO A PHD? Somebody answer me because that’s what I’m trying to find the answer to right now. 

Let’s save the, “I’m still processing the femtor trauma” for another post. For now, these are my thoughts.

I used to lucid dream a lot when i was depressed (unsure if that's correlated??) but it sucked bc one time i was being chased by the IT clown down this grassy riverside bank and I was like "fuck this, actually," and started flying... so my brain was like "wait, that's not fair :(" and THE CLOWN STARTED FLYING TOO. Another time I was in my school's art building but it was a twisting labyrinth of glass hallways and a mummy was after me, and I just suddenly had the thought that I could just. beat the shit out of it. so I turned right around and socked that mf and then I woke up. my dreams are generally super surreal tho, I can't remember the last time I had a normal dream w/o something being Very Off

It could be, I too noticed I most often lucid dream when I am under a lot of stress or in a bad place mentally.......

AHAHAHAHAHA THOSE ARE WONDERFUL!!!! You sure showed them who is the master of your mind. Punching a mummy in the face is a metaphor. And ohhh I have a friend like that, some people truly do have really Surreal Dreams TM. Not very relaxing.

Like Wilbur and then are just like 'what's cuz they haven't seen you in a few years.
