@senatoriaa - padmé sets a small pile of beautifully wrapped boxes in front of livvy: her favorite treats, beautifully decorated. a dress in the style of naboo, designed specifically for livvy. a silver chain hung with little stained glass charms in the shape of suns and moons and, designed to catch and play with the sun (or any other light). last of all, padmé presents a deceptively simple gold necklace: a crescent moon with the chain attached to both points, cradling a sun as though by magic.

"dormé helped me design this," padmé says, holding it out with the sun and moon resting on her palm. "just like everything dormé makes, it's more than it looks. if you twist the chain attachment here" - she demonstrates, and a tiny halographic padmé flickers into life to say 'happy birthday, livvy.' she's sure anakin was the one who told her that she turned thirteen recently; maybe he'd told her about the river rock the last time he'd opted to spend the night outside of the temple or it slipped months and months earlier and padme, lovely and thoughtful and detail-oriented padme, had never forgotten. it would feel gauche to ask, she thinks.

she can't keep the sheer delight off of her features when padme shows her the features of the locket; she's often thought to herself that holographs rarely do padme's beauty justice, but her voice is clear and bright and lovely as the streams crisscrossing naboo even in the recording. she looks from the tiny padme flickering in her palm to the real thing and back again before closing her hand around the charm and moving forward to throw her arms around the older woman's neck, " i love it, i love it, i love it! " she squeals. the hug lasts just a little longer than strictly necessary, her holding tight and feeling padme's force signature and heartbeat, before she sits back on her heels to look at her with bright eyes, " will you help me put it on? " she's never letting it out of her sight.

Almost as soon as I'd had the thought, a knock sounded at the door. But it was Genya, her tall frame swathed in cream silk heavily embroidered in gold, her red hair piled high on her head to better display the massive diamonds dangling from her ears and the graceful turn of her neck. 

"Well?" she said, turning this way and that.

"I loathe you," I said with a smile.

How was it that Genya had fallen so hard for someone so serious and so quiet and so seemingly oblivious to her gorgeousness?
