We're so lucky to live near to so much green space in Hackney. Another favourite place to go now is Seventy Acre Lake, which makes up part of the lakes, reedbeds and grasslands of Fishers Green in the River Lee Country Park near Waltham Abbey. Fishers Green is literally teeming with birds; so much so at one point this summer we had to make a run for it when faced with a grumpy swan. In the winter it attracts the bittern. What makes the spot especially brilliant however is that its great for cycling; there are well-maintained pathways that sweep around the lakes and over bridges, giving you great views of the water, birds and wildlife as you go. There is also a sculpture cycle tour for kids called the 'Artway' which means you can jump off your bike and clamber around on giant chairs, or huge logs with mammoth stag beetles. Thanks to regular trips to this green space my son can now easily cycle 5-6 miles and is now ready for his bigger boy bike. How to get there: Jump on the overground orange train to Cheshunt from Hackey and you can access the area from the West. Alternatively, drive and park at Fishers Green car park (paid parking) in the East where there is also a picnic area. It takes about 45 minutes from our part of Hackney to drive and about an hour on the train. #leevalley #riverleecountrypark #fishersgreen #seventyacrelake #walthamabbey #hackneyoutdoors #cycling #birdwatching #birding #lakes #londongreenspace #londondaysout #familiyactivities #wellness #switchoff (at Fishers Green) https://www.instagram.com/p/CGhM42Dh1ZD/?igshid=aoihgy8fvnf8
