Several hours late, but here is my fill of yesterday’s prompt from @breannasfluff’s Ravioli Ship Week!
Music? Check.
Guests? Check.
Outfits? Check.
Decorations? Check.
Food? Did they have enough food? In traditional Lorulian fashion, the guests were all supposed to bring something for the meal. And they’d all agreed to bring sides and deserts to add to the roasted boar (haha. Thanks Zelda) that Zelda had gotten the castle chef to provide, but what if they didn’t? Or what if it wasn’t enough? What if they ran out of food before everyone had-
“If you keep that up you’re going to end up rubbing your hands raw before we even get started.” Zelda’s voice startled Link out of their mental spiral, causing them to jump and spin around to find her standing in the doorway of the room they had been told to wait in.
“Wha-?” Link blinked at her, drawing a snort of laughter from her (one Link still prided themself in getting to hear even after all this time. Zelda never laughed like that in public).
”Your hands,” she elaborated, gesturing down at them. Confused, Link looked down at their hands only to find that their rings were all askew and the skin around the beginnings of their thumbs and pointer fingers were red.
Oh.
They’d been rubbing them again hadn’t they.
“Sorry.” Embarrassed, they quickly straightened their rings (green holy ring, gold joy ring, roc’s ring) before shaking out their hands.
“It’s fine,” Zelda soothed, making her way over to them and running a light hand over the redness. Soft, bright energy sparked across their skin and when she removed her hands the redness is gone. “What has you so worked up?”
“I just…” Link crossed their arms, hugging themself to stop from rubbing at their hands again. “I want today to be perfect, you know? He deserves for it to be perfect.”
“And it’s going to be perfect,” Zelda reassured them with an understanding smile. “You two have put far too much work into it for it not to be. And even if something does somehow go wrong it will still be perfect. Because it’s you and him. And you’re finally getting married. So stop worrying so much, Little Sibling.”
“I know. I know,” Link sighed, reaching up to rub at their face. “I just—”
“You fret, I know,” Zelda’s smile quirked up in amusement. “It’s what you do. But you don’t have to fret about this. You and Ravio have this all planned out perfectly. And Hilda and I have our part covered.”
“Right.” Link nodded. They knew all this. They just needed to convince their anxiety. “You’re right. It will be fine.”

First of the Rifts in Time Links made by @twilightangel83 for @lozriftsintime. I had a lot of fun making these four for the AU and worked with TwilightAngel when figuring out what roles they would have in regards to Nier: Automata. As I finish more I'll work on getting solo references done so it's easier to see the full outfits as the poses make it hard to show them completely and with the size there are details that I have planned and need to omit so it doesn't get too busy. When I do solo references I'll try and go into details regarding their roles and design choices for any of the Links that I finish.

I tried my hand at dyeing a RH doll. I used Rit DyeMore. It looked like people had successfully dyed RH dolls with that dye in five mins or so, with dye taking everywhere but the joints. That was not my experience! She was in there so long she has scoliosis, and her midriff and thighs never really took. So now we’re giving her a mural midriff.

2022 Craft Project Roundup
it’s almost the end of 2022 and I had the thought - why not compile all my projects for the year in one post? It’d be fun (for me). So here we go!!
January - March: Ficbinding of my Taking Care Trilogy
A project I had been dreaming of even while I was writing these fics - I finally made fancy hand-bound copies of my longest fic series ever.
March: Straw Marquetry Panels
Big shoutout to Pipsqueak on the Renegade server who let me know that this shit exists, because it is the perfect intersection of things I like: natural materials, shiny things, geometric shapes, straw!. I discovered that straw marquetry is incredibly fiddly and time consuming and my initial thought of full ceilings or large murals was way overly ambitious. But I still love it, despite all it’s fiddliness
April - June: Various failed experiments with straw dyeing
There is a way to dye straw. It must exist. People sell dyed straw. But despite at least 10 attempts with fiber reactive and RIT dyes with various prep methods, I did not once succeed in getting dye to take to the outer shiny side of the straw. (I intended to make pink straw for the wedding guestbook later in this list)
May: Pieced cubical bulletin board covers
I decided to spice up my cubical a bit with some nice fabric covers over my bulletin boards, after a friend told me it was super easy to remove them & cover them with fabric via tacks. The green fabric I got turned out to be too short 🤦 so I got a jelly roll of rainbow batiks and pieced these funky covers together.
May - June : Pair of dyed historical-inspired tunics
Another project I’ve had in my head for years - using a medieval reenactment tunic tutorial to make my own shirts out of linen. Linen turns out to be fabulous to dye, unlike straw, which is evil. It does wrinkle the moment you look at it, but you just have to be chill with that.
June: First longstitch bookbinding
Inspired by the amazing works of queercore-curriculum I had decided to use a criss-cross longstitch for the wedding guestbook I planned to make for my friend A. This was my initial testbook, which I did on graph paper thinking I could use it as a journal. The graph paper turns out to be very thin and bad for journal writing but the book itself I am quite proud of :)
July: DIY alcohol stove (& knots!)
So in July I went to a natural building/strawbale construction workshop and I was going to need to cook for myself on the first day of camping - hence a brief research binge on alcohol stoves & how to DIY them. This is the simplest possible alcohol stove made out of a cat food can & while youtube will tell you to optimize by making it much more complicated it works fine for boiling water/making fancy curry mashed potatoes.
Also around this time I learned how to do several knots for having up my camping hammock, which isn’t exactly a craft but it’s not knot a craft ;)
July: Part of a house
oh fuck it, the house goes on the list. As part of the aforementioned workshop I (along with about 40 other people) assembled the strawbale walls for a family home. It was by far the most amazing experience I had in 2022. Like adult summer camp with more powertools & while learning skills I hope to someday turn upon a home of my own.
September: Pajama pant spectacular
In September I made two new pajama pants (one of rockin’ flannel and one of a nice purple shot cotton) and also repaired several old pairs (new elastic, added pockets, patched some holes etc). Yes I do patch pockets on pajamas, they’re not fashionable but they’re much more convenient for phone access while cooking.
October: Wedding Guestbook
A guestbook for my friend’s wedding, done in the style of that other longstitch book, but with more fancy things :3
November: Small notebook
Made a small notebook with the offcuts from the wedding guestbook for a friend gift exchange. I was very proud of this one; simple and sweet and finished in a single weekend (it helped that the pages were already deckled to size).
December: Paperboard desk organizer
I keep my downstairs stuff (pens, wallet, keys, etc) in a little basket downstairs so I don’t have to wander the house looking for them and I decided to finally make organizers for it so it wouldn’t be a melange of mess. Used scraps from my bookbinding supplies & they turned out pretty good considering I have 0 box making experience.
December: Tablet weaving/work lanyard
Another craft I’ve wanted to try for years: tablet weaving! I finally thought of an excuse one day at work while contemplating how much I hated my lanyard - it flipped around constantly and the keys made unending clanking noises when I walked. I might make a post on tablet weaving bc I am in love. I need to think of more excuses. It’s so good, so satisfying. It’s like the opposite of straw marquetry in terms of how much I enjoy it in the moment :p

White noise fan fiction: The Cynn vs parenthood
Chapter one: little miracles
The biggest fear for anyone who has children is said children going missing.
One child going missing on there way home from school bad enough, but a whole spate of children going missing in the space of a week?
That was nightmare inducing.
So when series of abductions rocked Edonia, RIT put on the case very quickly. Yesterday quickly.
A trail of missing kids, suspicious produce vans, and the footage from a freshly installed domestic cctv system led them to a small warehouse, set in the far corner of an industrial estate, just outside city limits, which by all means was seemingly abandoned. No lights, no sound. Just the wind, the rain, and the sounds of other businesses going about their day to day business in the back ground.
But, the RIT team was patient. Very patient. Intel said that they buyer was gong to be arriving soon to pick up the live cargo.
And just before sun set, they did.
A white van, displaying the logo of a produce company from the next island over reversed up to the cargo dock, the driver hopping out to open the bay doors and back the van in some more. As they did, RIT moved in closer- stealth was a key factor here. Traffickers liked there emergency teleport spells, and one small slip would be catastrophic.
The two with wings hopped silently onto the roof, finding a skylight, they watched as the traffickers, 5 of them in total, from a range of species, dragged a whimpering line of children out of some storage containers. The children where paraded past the buyer, who inspected them each individually, inspecting there age, breed, and how much they were worth, arguing with the trafficker every now and then over little details.
With each second, RIT crept into position, using hand signals and walkie talkies to communicate and finalise the trap.
Inside the warehouse, Money was estranged.
RIT pounced.
-
“Well, that was easy.” Teige carrol said breezily, pushing the last of the traffickers, and grumpy looking jackalope with a broken antler, into the waiting police riot van. The whole operation had gone down with out a hitch. with the traffickers being taken by surprise, they had had no time to activate any of the teili spells, or to destroy any evidence. They had been tackled, cuffed and had there magic bound in under a minuet buy the 7 strong RIT team, and the buyer had not gotten far, being slammed into the floor by a 6’10 ball of grey fluff and fury called Hawk press the moment they tried to run for the van. The same van that was now loaded on the back of a tow truck, on its way to the local police compound for forensic tests.
They were having a bad day.
Once the prisoners had been bagged and tagged, all eyes when back to the gaggle of children that where now sitting on the cold cement floor, watching there rescuers with looks of awe, tinged with just a little bit of fear.
Captain James Marinos turned to the rest of his team. It was important that this kids where taken to a safe, warm place for medical attention before they were reunited with there families.
“PRESS, CARROL, yes, you two! Keep an eye on these kids. VINCENT! You and Pascelli fetch the Minibus AND TURN THE HEATING ON- not all of us have thick fur to keep us warm. Murry, you go with the cops, fill in any info they need, we will pick you up on our way through. I will call back to base the give them the good news, and tell them to contact parents. NOW SNAP TO IT!”
RIT snapped to it.
~~~~~
Hope and hearth hospital was used to having trafficking victims brought through there doors for treatment, being the largest nonhuman hospital in the symphony archipelago. Once Marinos had given them the heads up to the large group of preteens (there was 15 children in total, aged between 5 and 12) was heading there way, one of the paediatric wards was quickly isolated for the children to reside in. 15 beds, for 15 kids, with a small army of nurses to preform health checks and provide food and cuddles where needed.
It was a small miracle that none of the kids had been hurt physically in any way, apart from some bruises and one damaged ego. They where lucky. Very lucky.
Hawk and Teige where still on kid watch duty, and they both looked rather out of place, in there dark blue uniforms, stormy feathers and inky fur, ageist the bright and cheerful, flowers and happy critter wall murals that set the children wards apart from the rest of the rather bland hospital. The two of them guarded the only door into this particular ward, keeping an eye on the coming and goings of the staff in there purple scrubs.
“so, sunshine. Ever been in the kiddies ward before?”
“nope. You?”
“me? Ahhhhh, no. One of me sisters? Yup” Teige yawned, scratching at one of his curved ram horns. They had been on the go since before sun up, and now it was late. In mid-summer. They were tired.
“what she do?” hawk shuffled his wings, stretching his wings a little, trying not to yawn himself.
“lets just say that the words ‘hey, watch this!’ was part of it. Ma was at work, so guess who had to take her stupid butt to hospital. …….Stop laughing sunshine. Not everyone has self-healing sisters.”
“annnnd there one of the reasons that I an’t ever been to the kiddies ward. That and Em would’ve never been able to foot the bill.”
“ahh, point.”
A commotion from the doors behind them, leading out to rest of the hospital. Hawk glanced back through the windows on the (closed) doors and winced slightly. Teige cocked his head in response to hawks expression.
The rest of the RIT squad had arrived, along with 13 rounds of panicky parents.
Ironically, it took longer to get the parents to settle down then it did the children in the first place. But once the panicky round of ‘oh gods thank the heavens you are all right you are so grounded for eternity we love you’ where over and done with, the ward matron laid down the law. The kids where to be staying for at least the next 12 hours for observation (just in case. it was standed practice for all incoming trafficking victims, young or old), and would be given an obligatory tetanus vaccine before they left (also just in case, you never know). Parents could stay, but there where no space for spare beds. Please keep that in mind.
Once the announcements where over, and the ruckus had calmed down, most of the parents of the older children opted to go back to their homes, safe in the knowledge that there kids where safe and sound at the hospital. They would be good for one night- and it gave them time to inform other family members of the good news. That left 7 of the 13 sets to pull up some plush chairs that had been provided, so that they could stay the night with there little ones.
A relieved calm settled over the ward as the children and most of the remaining adults drifted of the sleep. The nurses on duty switched shifts, and Hawk and Teige where told, in polite terms, to go and get some shut eye in one of the adjoining rooms. They would need to be back at the hospital with the rest of the RIT squad with in 8 or so hours anyway to finish up the paperwork that needed to be done (report writing was the worse part of the job, in both opinions). So they both decided to catch some sleep where they were instead.
“ we could still go bother Vlad” Tiege grumbled snuggling His stoat form into a pillow. The room the two of them had borrowed was not huge, and was probably a little office at some point. It was just big enough for Hawk to stretch out his 6’10 frame, wings and all. It was still kind of snug, but it was not the worse place that the two of them had slept. This room had air con, for example.
“An’ why would we do that, this place is comfy enough” Hawk settled into the small pile of blankets and pillows that had been provided, smiling at the thought of the friendly spirit He called his roommate, and the brilliant cooking that the two of them would whip up some nights. Chuckling, Hawk reached over and promptly dumped one of the thin, but very warm blankets on Teige, covering the grumpy phooka completely. Teige’s lamp like eyes glared out from under the edge of blanket, glaring at the younger, taller man. Hawk grinned at him. Teige huffed and curled up under the blanket. He started fell asleep and snoring almost instantly.
Hawk settled down into his makeshift bed, still smiling. It was late. He was tired. But they had saved some kids, and stopped the traffickers from getting away. All in all. A good, productive day. The rest of there squad had been summoned back to base, for a debriefing, but they had been asked to stay by some of the staff. Hope and Hearth did have a security team, but it had been agreed that the presence of the two of them would be a good way to reassure the children when they woke up. It gave peace of mind to the parents as well. The hospital had to provide somewhere to sleep in return.
It would do for the night. Besides, there was a much nicer bed waiting for him back at Vlad’s. and at his wonderful boyfriends..
Hawk fell asleep with the images of star studded bedding and hairless cats in his mind.
Day 15: Well there has been a major turn of events on the Tour De Rex today. What was a slight oil drip, has now turned out to be a pretty big oil leak. Also, our brakes have started grinding badly and desperately need new pads (hopefully they still only need brake pads and not new rotors 🤞🏽). So the Tour de Rex has come to a halt in Holley, NY. The good news is that Uncle Bruce and Aunt Bette were the last family stop along the tour. From here on out it was just going to be the journey back to Alabama without any notable points of interest or family to see. So on what now is the last day of the Tour de Rex, we left Fairhaven and headed to see Aunt Chanda (Panda) in Port Bay, NY. It’s amazing that she was able to buy my Grammie and Grandpie’s old cottage and now lives there full time. I remember as a kid going fishing there a lot. As we walked down to the lake side, we spotted a bald eagle! Ethan and I were lucky to see it when Aunt Chanda spotted it; too bad the rest of the crew missed it. Aunt Chanda told tales of dinosaur bones and her love of pandas with the kids. She gave the kids all kinds of trinkets and treasures and then we were off to Rochester. We stopped at Marla’s other sister’s, Aunt Kristie and Uncle Al’s. They fed us well with a BBQ meal of burgers and local hot dogs called Zwleigles; both red and white. 😋 The kids were banished to the basement to play…well not exactly banished, but they were happy to have their own space to play, and the adults were happy they weren’t running amuck upstairs as we got caught up with each other. At this stop we confirmed our decision to end the Tour de Rex and booked our flights back home. We will be leaving from Buffalo NY; the AL crew will fly to Huntsville, and the CA crew will fly San Diego on Thursday. So we’ve had to cut our tour short by five days. Tonight we are parked at Uncle Bruce’s and may be spending our last night in Lazy Daze…for now. Lazy Daze has returned to her original home to recover! We’re hoping the local mechanic can take her in tomorrow and start working on her soon. If that’s the case, we’ll spend our last night in Bruce and Bette’s house…in real beds! Woo hoo!😃. Uncle Bruce and Aunt Bette welcomed us with open arms and we hobbled up the drive. The kids dusted off the tree swing and had fun swinging around. They played frisbee with my new RIT frisbee from Uncle Al in the side yard. And of course they looked around for frogs at the pond. Aunt Bette lured us in the house with the promise of more ice cream! 🤣 We played a few rounds of Uno with Uncle Bruce in their beautifully hand painted-mural dining room! Now it’s off to bed for possibly our last night in Lazy Daze on the Tour de Rex. It’s been an amazing journey and adventure up to this point! Kudos to the tour planners, Dad and Marla, aka Grandma and Grandpa!! Even though the trip is being cut short, we don’t feel jipped at all. We’ve seen so much and had so much fun! We’ve created a lifetime of memories on this trip! All of us are so grateful for this amazing adventure! Once Lazy Daze is up and running, we’ll look forward to our next adventure! We’re already talking about a northwest tour; possibly Yellowstone…🤔😄
Character Asks 2
Ask: Bunny Mural, What do you think about your bunny form?
Mural: I’m a hare actually. But eh. shrugs it’s got its uses. More so if I can figure out how to do it on command. I’ll take it over what so many other people turned into in the Dark World.
Levidromes
A levidrome is a word that when spelled backwards makes another word.
Well, at least not yet. It is not in the Oxford English Dictionary.
Levi Budd is a six-year-old boy from British Columbia in Canada who has coined the term 'levidrome' after spotting that the word 'STOP' spells 'POTS' backwards. After realising that there is no such word in English for this phenomena, a social media campaign has started to get this word in popular usage (hence this post).
I wrote a short Python script this morning that will pull all of the levidromes from a dictionary file. The full list is copied below.
It is interesting to note that some levidromes are also palindromes. I wonder whether we need a new word to describe this phenomenon also? Furthermore, there is no word in English for "a word that you make up in order to make another word make sense". I suggest: "emordivel" ?
Ohio by way of Niagara Falls and the Rustbelt
My grandma was turning 85. There would be a surprise party...in Westerville, OH. It’s not often everyone on my dad’s side of the family all get together anymore. We are multiplying (in fact there would be my cousin’s new baby to meet) and live all around the country. In the spirit of avoiding the weddings or funerals mindset, I knew I wanted to make this trip happen.
We decided to drive, in part because we love road trip adventures, and in part because there is no easy way to fly to Ohio from Rhode Island. Also, according to virtually everyone we mentioned this trip to, because we are crazy. We had only four days and 1600ish round trip miles to cover.
Thank god Cody is a morning person, because these types of trips only make sense when you leave well before sunrise. By the time the sky was turning red, we had already made it to our first pit stop. We were treated to this rainbow sky behind the iconic golden arches in an almost empty parking lot, save for a few over the road truckers.
I had been daydreaming about taking the kids to see Niagara Falls for a while. I was there just once in college, while visiting friends at RIT; this would be Cody’s first time. After looking at the map, I decided it would be a great way to break up the drive. We had learned there are bike paths all around Niagara Falls, so decided this would be the perfect opportunity to try out our bike rack on its first long trip.
Our drive took us right along the Erie Canal. Coincidentally, Willa’s 3rd grade chorus was in the process of learning Low Bridge, so we all had that song stuck in our head for days. We got off the highway in Canastota, NY and got to see a painted low bridge up close.
Cody is an expert at the backroads, and this is one of my favorite things he brings to our adventures. Miles of highway can get so monotonous - from the interstate, everything looks the same - but one reprieve into a small rustbelt town is enough to light a fire of interest and curiosity in all of us.
There’s a toe path that runs along parts of the Erie Canal and through this town - you can see it just beyond that arch in the picture. We didn’t have time to get our bikes out, but we walked along it for a little and saw some beavers working on their dam.
Small towns like this make me feel at home, and it was relaxing to walk around and just see life happening on a sleepy Thursday morning. I like how the murals gave us a small glimpse into what the town might have been like back in the canal’s hay day.
“A House Held Up By Trees” - Other perks of taking back roads - seeing a house held up by trees that looks just like the pictures in the book we have by the same name.
After playing a friendly competition of Eye Spy (a farm animal - 5 points, a silo - 7 points, an Amish person - 10 points), we got back on the highway to log some more miles. We took this opportunity to listen to every podcast we could find about people going over the falls in a barrel. Next stop - the Canadian border!!
We crossed the border at the Lewiston-Queenston Bridge and just followed signs for Niagara Falls. We weren’t sure what to expect. The last time I came here, we walked across the border from the US side during a time when you didn’t need passports. This route took us along the Niagara Parkway and we saw that right beside us was a bike path along the Niagara River.
We parked the ramvan right near the Butterfly Conservatory and unloaded the bikes, resisting the urge (mostly mine) to first go look at the butterflies. It was about 2:00 in the afternoon, and we were all ready to be out of the van and stretch our legs.
We had no idea how far we were from Niagara Falls, and purposely didn’t look at a map to find out; we figured we must be pretty close.
It felt great to have reached out first destination and be out in the fresh air in one of the first warm days of the spring. The mood was slightly less jubilant as we kept riding for 7 more miles before we finally reached the falls. Oops! Didn’t think it would be quite that far, but there were a few picturesque places to stop along the way.
Someday I would love/be slightly terrified to ride one of these gondolas across the Niagara River. By the time we got to this junction, we could start to hear the roar of the falls (good thing because the kids were beginning to lose patience).
It was so worth it to have the anticipation build and get to slowly approach this view by bike. I was trying to put myself in the shoes of someone who had no idea what to expect, but it was also just as awe inspiring the second time around.
It was a beautiful sunny day, but it had been a long cold winter and the falls were still pretty pretty frozen, so the Maid of the Mist tour boats weren’t running. While I would have liked the experience of getting so close to the falls, it was kind of nice to not have to feel like we were missing out on something if we decided to view the falls just from above.
It got more and more crowded as we got closer to the horseshoe falls. The temperature dropped a solid 15 degrees as we walked through the mist coming off the falls.
We were now closer to the main streets of town, and could see our hotel in the distance. We were staying at the Marriott on the Falls and it was just down a little farther and one street above us. We had come so far - we decided to just keep walking/riding to get to our hotel and then send Cody back to get the van once we checked in. There was an incline car to get up to the main street from the falls, but there was one problem - no bikes allowed. We were so close, yet so far away. We ended up on a trek through a big parking lot that we were sure would lead to a road to the hotel. Instead, we found a dead end. We saw a dirt path through the woods above that said no trespassing, but it seemed like our only option. After convincing the kids that it is okay to sometimes break rules at times like this (MY HEART VOICE SAYS TAKE THE PATH!!), we made it up to the main road, and finally to our hotel.
There were no falls view rooms left, but we could walk right around the corner from our room to the elevator alcove for this amazing view. The hotel stored our bikes for us while Cody rode his to get the van. The parking lot in the above picture is the one we rode through.
We contemplated walking down to the busier part of town for a restaurant dinner, but it was getting late and the kids wanted to swim (always get the hotel with the pool!). Cody took them down to the pool while I unpacked and laid out this dinner spread. I had packed a ton of food for this trip and we ended up not eating out at all. After dinner, we turned on a movie for the kids, and Cody and I took our wine and went around the corner to sit by the hallway window and look at falls. People coming off of the elevator probably thought we were nuts, but we just wanted to soak in that view. And it’s a good thing we did - when we woke up the next morning, it was so foggy that you couldn’t even tell the falls were there. We took that as our cue to leave - but not before a morning swim. Onward to Ohio!
We took a slight detour to drive through the town of Erie. It was a part of PA I had never been to. The city center still had kind of a 1960′s vibe and it was easy to imagine what life might have been like back then. Cody led us down to Presque Isle State Park, which is a peninsula that juts out into Lake Erie. It was still pretty foggy, so we couldn’t see much. We stopped for a picnic lunch and planned our next move.
There are 21 miles of bike paths throughout the park. It had started raining a little, but we decided we couldn’t pass them up.
We rode for a few miles and found an End of the Rhode type of beach with dunes perfect for jumping.
It was nice to have some time to explore and stretch our legs, because after this stop, it was hammer down to Ohio; we were expected by dinner.
After hundreds of miles of driving, coming from two completely different places, and not talking all day about our travel plans, the Wolfe’s pulled into the parking lot of my grandma’s apartment at the exact same time we did. Twin powers unite! We only had about 36 hours in Ohio, so we were going to make the most of them. After a pizza dinner with everyone trickling in as they arrived, we went back and slept at my aunt and uncles’ house. On Saturday, there would be a Bunny Hop 5K run, an Easter egg hunt, lunch and a tour of my grandma’s new apartment building, and the surprise party.
It was a busy day, but so worth it to get to spend it with these people!
Sunday was Easter. We had originally planned to get up and leave pretty early, but we decided to enjoy a more leisurely morning. We had a nice breakfast at my aunt and uncles’, then headed over to my grandma’s where the kids rode their bikes on the bike paths that surround her apartment while the adults “visited” (as my mom calls it). We took some final photo ops and were on our way around noon.
At our first gas station stop, the kids were excited to discover that the Easter bunny had left their baskets and some eggs hidden in the ramvan! Each time we stopped, there would be a couple more eggs hidden, filled with lego people they could put together and play with in the car. That Easter bunny sure is a tricky guy.
We weren’t sure if we would try to drive the whole way in one shot, or if we would have to stop overnight somewhere. The kids fell asleep in the car around 9:00, and by the time we got to NYC around 11:30 hardly anyone else was on the road. We knew at this point it would take us twice as long to drive the remaining 200 miles in morning traffic, so we just went for it. And by “we” I mostly mean Cody. I just did my best to stay awake and pick good podcasts.
4 days, 1700 miles, and a whole lot of fun. And we even all made it to school and work the next day!
entre deux parterres exotiques les lèvres du gouffre s’écartent nous laissant de part et d’autre un pied, verzutti rit
je suis entrée en colère dans l’exposition d’Erika Verzutti, chargée de colère depuis l’exposition précédente, art et biotechnologie, et c’est avec cette colère s’atténuant, atténuée par les oeuvres d’Erika Verzutti que j’ai parcouru,
j’ai parcouru parce que parcours comme dans un jardin,
l’espace était scénographié comme un jardin - qui s’ouvre, c’est pratique pour un jardin, sur l’espace extérieur et urbain
comme un jardin, un jardin exotique & français, exotique contenu, agencement français, encore qu’exotique, c’est peut-être le fruit du plaqueminier, les bananes assemblées scolopendre immense, Centipède (201), mural scolopendre, c’est la jalousie, c’est mon souvenir de La jalouise de Robbe-Grillet transparaissant, souvenir par anticipation, dans Les aventures d’Orphée Foëne (et de Juan de Lisboa) à Dos Romeiros, c’est
Seules ses antennes se couchent l’une après l’autre et se relèvent, dans
un mouvement alterné, lent mais continu. A son extrémité postérieure, le
développement considérable des pattes — de la dernière paire, surtout, qui
dépasse en longueur les antennes — fait reconnaître sans ambiguïté la scutigère,
dite «millepattes-araignée», ou encore «millepattes-minute » à cause d’une
croyance indigène concernant la rapidité d’action de sa piqûre, prétendue
mortelle. Cette espèce est en réalité peu venimeuse ; elle l’est beaucoup moins,
en tout cas, que de nombreuses scolopendres fréquentes dans la région.
Je rentre dans la maison.
Juan de Lisboa n’est pas arrivé.
La bête est immobile. Soudain la partie antérieure du corps se met en marche,
exécutant une rotation sur place, qui incurve le trait sombre vers le bas du
mur.
c’est la trace ou ce qui donnera la trace du mille-pattes écrasé sur un mur blanc, l’immensité du centipède, annelé régiments de bananes, 4 par 4, bronze, noir, ce pourrait être des bananes séchées, si séchées que, non, ce n’est pas tout à fait ça, ce n’est pas tout à fait ça, le Centipède absorbe un peu de ma colère, me la renvoie,
et pourtant,
le nombre des oeuvres
la quantité d’oeuvres dans chacun de ses parterres est
vertigineux,
cartographie pour moi impossible,
je me souviens de trois ensembles,
dont le cygne,
le cygne, est-ce : art topaire ?
(l’art qui des arbres vivants fait des formes
ici, quoi fait office d’arbre ?, le socle ?)
mais au centre m’attire ce que je reconnais comme ne le reconnais pas
l’ombre d’un piano qui n’est pas celui de Beuys, qui n’est pas feutre, mais gris tout comme,
j’ai besoin de le toucher, papier mâché, son poids s’envole
en même temps que vient cette question :
ai-je vu ou reconstiué-je ce que là, dans l’oeuvre de Erika Verzutti, je veux voir :
les convoquent ?
peut-être avec la Venus-Yogi approche-t-on de ce que Chris Sharp nomme l’ambiguité, de l’importance de l’ambiguité titre-t-il son texte dans le catalogue de Erika Verzutti :
de quoi ?
est-ce là où cherche Verzutti ? à la naissance des mythes ?
anthropologie et ethnographie et art ?
quelques soient les mythes, je veux dire qu’ils soient
civilisationnels ou les mythes de l’art, ses grandes figures
les grandes figures de l’art moderne qui elles-mêmes replongent
cherchent quelque chose d’un art primitif
et aposent colonial sur les formes épurées des masques africains,
par exemple de certains masques africains
le fantasme d’un art primitif, d’une primitivité de l’art
d’une origine de l’art
comme il y aurait une orgine du monde
un point d’origine
alors même que les formes regardées par les colons
de leur histoire, du temps où ils s’inscrivent on ne sait rien :
ne pourrait-on pas imaginer que les peuples qui ont été considérés comme moins évolués
ne soient au contraire l’aboutissement d’une évolution
dans laquelle notre civilisation n’en serait qu’au premier pas ?
shéma presque aussi idiot dans sa symétrie
cependant
on retrouve dans ces questions celles afférentes à l’histoire
aux histoires
des peuples décimés du continent d’Erika Verzutti
de celles du sexe d’Erika Verzutti
les enjeux se croisent
dans le travail de Verzutti
il y a le centipède que j’ai vu à la fin,
il y a la tortue que j’ai vu piano-monstre
il y a le cygne topiaire,
il y a la petite chambre aux tablettes
il y a l’accumulation d’objets au sol qui dessinent une topographie mentale, c’est Orozco qui le premier m’a appris la beauté de tels displays,
il y a, qui m’a agacé l’autre cygne, avec un pinceau qui fait pourtour du bec rouge par un pinceau plouf plongé depuis et dans une forme blanche signifiante, plouf plouf, j’aimerai te dire Erika Verzutti, c’est une bonne blague, et j’aime bien les blagues, mais c’est une blague trop située, clin d’oeil appuyé, ainsi séduisante, ainsi libidinale, ainsi trop commerciale, non, pas d’ambiguité là, pas du tout, alors cette blague me fait fuir, m’a faite hésiter à poésie critiquer
il y a tous les totems
à vrai dire, je crois que ce que j’ai aimé c’est une simplicité des formes
et de leurs matériaux qui parfois se dérobent, là, oui, l’ambiguité
la simplicité des formes, d’assemblages de formes simples
cette lisibilité là, dans l’accumulation,
ce minimalisme-ci
à vrai dire, je crois que ce que j’ai aimé c’est aussi une habitation de l’espace,
pas en tant que telle : pas de saturation, saturation impossible dans cet espace-ci
mais de la profusion, et aussi, ce mot à l’entrée, l’engagement de Verzutti envers l’espace
le fait de faire de l’art topiaire de socle à même l’espace
je crois que j’ai aimé que ce sentiment ait été traduit
parce que je pense
qu’est vivante celle qui a travaillé ici
pas vivante versus morte, il y a des mort.es très vivant.es
mais vivant.e comme généreuse
ces formes viennent d’un geste généreux
du désir d’être généreux dans les formes,
ce sont des formes qui ne font pas les malignes
il y a une humilité
qui frise l’arrogance, parfois juste ça
oui, mon sentiment reste ambigue
j’aimerai rencontrer Erika Verzutti
comprendre
comprendre si le travail depuis un fruit
est comme le travail d’Ana Mandieta depuis la terre
l’affirmation de la beauté d’une simplicité à portée de main
et le geste
(la trace de la main)
vient souligner cette beauté
et puis c’est tout, c’est beauté à côté de beauté à côté de
mais encore une fois, je me cabre :
la forêt fait si bien cet agencement
que faisons-nous quand nous créons des parterres
qu’agençons-nous qui difficilement vit ensemble
qui tel arbuste acide, tel autre meurt,
cette végétation de rond-point m’assassine les yeux
ne faudrait-il pas les pièces accessibles et caressables ?
j’ai eu besoin de caresser la tortue,
est-ce que Verzutti se fait interdire par le champ de l’art
cette approche-ci ?
cette approche-ci qui fait scène cygne pour Vinicius Massucato ?
mais encore : artiste et artiste
et, la sensualité et le vivant
sont ici la reproduction de formes du vivant
qui cohabitent et forme de nouvelles formes du vivant
si on ne peut pas les toucher
toucher avec les yeux ne me suffit pas
j’aimerai cueuillir et soupeser chacun des fruits
la gymnastique intellectuelle de la soupesée et de la projection ne me suffit pas
alors,
en douce
peut-être les tablettes sont-elles, comme cachées dans une petite salle, une clé de l’exposition : ce sont des tablettes, comme des jeux vidéos, des magazines, des tablettes d’argiles, des palettes de maquillages, des paysages, et des tableaux abstraits,
ce sont des objets de la modernité tombées en pierre
ou en bronze, ou en nimporte quoi : sans usage autre que
décoratif, est évoqué, proposé écran de projection
ce sont des reliefs d’une civilisation, la notre
dans la narration spéculative d’une autre
qui accroche encore au mur
alors n’est-ce pas encore la nôtre ?
et les parterres alors ne s’astreignent-ils pas à n’être que cela ?
qu’est-ce que serait art vivant
et sculpté
si ce n’est vivant et réchauffé par le sang chaud
de ses regardeureuses ?
et pourtant, pourtant, il y a là de la beauté
du je-m’en-fous, qui n’est pas du je-m’en-foutisme
un je-m’en-fous très sérieux qui fait, qui voudrait faire ?, ce qu’il veut
je me demande si les pièces de Verzutti
ne sont pas des pièces d’atelier,
des pièces nécessitant son atelier
et puis reregadant les photos des oeuvres,
je me dis
je les aime ces oeuvres
comme ça
j’ai envie de les aimer ces oeuvres
il y a quelque chose de l’ensorcellement
While the abrupt was admirably straightforward – the ancestors required three bedrooms and an breezy accepted amplitude for apathetic anniversary active – it was the armpit and the mural that assigned the architectonics of the house.
‘The activity appropriate a adequately continued action because of the attributes aegis regulations of the specific site,’ says Pablo Rebelo. ‘The armpit had these slopes adverse an absurd view, that abominably faced arctic west. We absitively to actualize a attenuated architectonics with openings to both sides, so that we could accumulate the angle but still accept a acceptable lighting orientation.’
Rebelo and adolescent founding architect Pedro Pita, who Wallpaper* featured in the Architects Directory 2018, drew large, yet cardinal openings into the adhesive walls, that anatomy patches of authentic attributes or angle into the basin and horizon: ‘As you access the abode you accept this advanced window adverse the basin absolutely affected by the canopies of the trees,’ says Rebelo.
The abruptness accustomed the abode to bury into the site across two levels. The living, kitchen and dining space is accessible to the outside, advised about a central hard maple panelled box at its amount – the lower akin with the bedrooms has a ‘more alveolate and attention feel’.
From the bland accurate attic in the house, to the accurate baptize catchbasin outside, while abstracts are simple, anniversary band of the architectonics is thoughtful.
Modest architectonics becomes an asset, and a accurate assiduity of the peaceful attributes of the landscape. The collapsed rectangle of water in the catchbasin becomes a quiet cogitating pool, and a foundation of the amusing alfresco amplitude that connects to the absolute granite bank of the armpit and a rural aisle for animals that meanders carefully by.
Forja Abode finds accuracy and artlessness in the sloping neighbourhood, brindled with schist-built houses that anniversary chase their own set of characteristics and ideas. The architects aimed to architectonics a abode that was a contrast, and a abstinent footfall abroad from a jumbled, accumulating colloquial style. ‘Most of them abort to archetype old typologies, and we capital to ambit ourselves from this, bold this abstruse aggregate anchored in nature,’ says Rebelo. §
