Guys imagine...

It's 11:59 PM in the night of Sunday

The alleys are dark

Demons in human skin are laughing

Women are being raped

Protestors are doing candle marches

An old lady, very old, watches the TV with horro in her eyes and folds her palms, looks at the small Laddoo Gopal ki murti in her Pooja Home and says, "Ab to aao Girdhar Gopal, kabse aas lagaye hai." (atleast now come, Girdhar Gopal. We await you to to come {and annihilate evil}.)

Away from all this at a small house near a river, the loud cries of a woman rattled the whole house as she pushed at her stomach, the pain being unbearing as she cried out for help, the midwives helping her. Lightning started to crackle in the sky, heavy rain started pouring down with lightning and lightning, the river was in full swing.

With a final cry the pain subsided, her face drenched in sweat and tears as she felt herself fainting, when her eyes were snapped open as she felt something on her chest.

"You have birthed such a beautiful baby boy, look!" The midwife had cried out happily and she teared up, looking at the dark skinned small bundle of joy, who was crying, covered in a thick blanket.

Suddenly her eyes were dazzled by the effect of a bright light, and she closed her eyes in between. She slowly opened one eye and looked up, and was stunned. The huge silhouette of a man with four arms holding different things stood in front of her, as she looked wide eyed at the huge silhouette in front of her, and then slowly looked at the baby.

After gaining a little more information about Omashu from the games, I'd like to go into the South Asian/SEA references of the city.

The common headdress for men in Omashu are turbans. They wear it the same style of the Cabbage Man which @atlaculture has matched it to a Khăn Vấn, a vietnamese turban:

The turban does have a similar shape, but depending the style, the Khăn Vấn can be wrapped like a headband that shows hair in the back, unlike the Omashu turbans that wrap completely around the head. Turbans have a long history that spans many cultures and religions, so here are some other turbans I thought looked similar:

These are the Sikh turbans, also referred as a Dastār. This particular style shown in the example is called the modern Dumalla. I thought the wrapped style was similar to the turban design in the game.

Another kind are the Islamic turbans found in South and South East Asia, such as Indonesia, Malaysia, and Bangladesh. The turban can come in different colors and patterns (I found only white ones for the examples, but I've seen green, yellow, and checkered before).

The women in Omashu also wear head coverings and this one in particular reminded me of the hijab style I've seen Indonesians wear.

Another cultural reference @atlaculture covered is how King Bumi's rock candy he encased Sokka and Katara with is like the rock sugar used in Asia. The method of developing rock sugar, or Misri, was invented in India and is the oldest refined form of sugar. It's used as candy or a sweetener for milk and tea. In Karnataka, it's served with water for guests in the summer.

Lastly, Bumi's name has ties to South and South East Asia. @cyndaquillt has already done a wonderful post going into Bumi's name from a South Asian view:

Bhumi (भूमि, pronounced bhoo-mi) is a Sanskrit word that means ground. The root of the word is Bhu (भू) which means earth.

There's also @ririsasy additions, that Bumi is the Indonesian word for Earth. In Indonesia, Bumi is a name usually given to males, while Bhumi is a name commonly given to Indian women, and is the name of the goddess of Earth in Hinduism.

There's many overlaps between these cultures and more, but overall Omashu leans towards a more South Asian/SEA setting than East Asian compared to the rest of the Earth Kingdom. Any additions or corrections are welcome!

Salaar Scene Analysis: Velamgadi Trial!

When Varadha and Deva were brought to the trial and Naarang started walking towards them, Varadha was concerned for Deva. While Deva was ready to face all consequences, Varadha was afraid that Naarang would kill Deva. He keeps looking between Deva and Naarang.

Then Naarang started walking towards him and he straightened himself to face him.

But the moment Naarang looked at Varadha, Deva's nonchalance turned into anxiousness. Deva didn't wait for Naarang to come to them, he went forward to beg to spare Varadha.

Watching Deva, who was so proud that he wouldn't even take cover when shot at, beg for him, Varadha got emotional. He tried to stop Deva, but Deva was so far gone in his desperation to save him that he didn't even hear him.

Deva reminded Naarang that he was the one who killed Vishnu and finally Naarang's focus shifted from Varadha to him. When Naarang was going to strike at Deva, Varadha rushed forward to draw Naarang's attention towards himself, saying he was the one who was responsible as Deva killed Vishnu for him only. He even called Naarang Anna, putting himself in a lower position than him. That too after being insulted by him the last time they met.

And then Naarang made the biggest mistake of his life, that would not only cost him his hand, but also his life. He held Varadha's collar and the look in Varadha's eyes said, "you have just dug your own grave." He knew exactly how Deva would react, you can see it in his eyes.

But when Deva actually cut off Naarang's hand and then his head, he was overwhelmed. He couldn't believe Deva would go this far for him, even though he knew it would happen. At the same time he was guilty. He felt he destroyed Deva's chance of a normal life away from Khanshar's violence. Maybe he thought he let Amma down as she didn't like Deva being violent. His gaze was focused on the cut hand, while everyone else stared at Deva in fear and awe. He only shifted his gaze when Naarang's head rolled towards his feet.

When Baachi questioned him about Deva, he was too dazed to react. As if he could listen to Baachi, but couldn't understand what he was saying. He was immersed in his guilt and overflowing emotions.

It was Deva's 'sorry' that pulled him out from that dazed state. And what was his first reaction? He apologized for bringing him back to Khanshar.

And that's why Varadha is different from the conventional hero's best friend, who normally cheers or feels proud of the hero's bold actions. It's not that Varadha isn't proud of Deva. From the way he replied to Baachi in Mahara when he asked him to stop Deva, you can clearly hear the pride in his voice.

But when Deva takes risks for him, Varadha behaves like the 'love interest' who is overwhelmed by the love the hero has for him, who can't believe someone can do such things for him. He's more concerned about how the actions would affect Deva than how he would benefit from them.

This is totally opposite to Ugramm, where Bala intentionally provoked Agastya to fight for him and enjoyed the benefits that came from his actions.

This also contrasts with Aadhya's reaction during the coal mine fight scene, when she sat on that truck and watched the fight with wonder and reverence. Unlike Aadhya, Varadha won't judge Deva for not standing up for him. But he would rather have Deva safe than put himself in danger for him. He brought Deva to Khanshar as a last resort to save Baachi, not himself. He neither expects or wants Deva to fight for him.

Varadha's love for Deva is like a concerned, self sacrificing spouse who puts their husband's interests before him.

This is another proof that Varadha is the real heroine of Salaar.

Deva was a violent man. He was aware of that fact a lot more than it looked like to others and he was comfortable with it most of the time. That was how his home town was, that was how other boys from his tribe were, that was how his father was and that was how Varadha was.

Varadharaj Mannaar. He was probably the only person who loved him like he was, even if he was covered in blood. It never changed the way he looked at him. Varadha always looked at him with this soft look, like he was looking at something worth the world and it messed with his brain so much because holy shit that was a lot of love for a man like him.

What he felt for him was more than simple friendship they claimed and he knew it and he knew that Varadha knew it too because why else would he look at him like that. Why else would he talk to him in that soft voice, slowly guiding his mind of that red haze and why would he caress his face with that tender touch.

He has casued issues for him. He knew what ceasefire meant, he has studied the constitution of khansaar under his father who was very strict about him following that book but his rage was always above everything, that wrath showed everything and everyone to him in a shade of red.

Everyone but the man who sat at the other side of the bars, leaning against them to allow him to hold his hand in his own. Claspped between his colossal palms was a battle hardened hand yet it was a lot softer than his own.

The silence between them was always comfortable for it was never forced. He could read it like a book, just like right now, he knew Varadha was tired, mentally more than he was physically and it made that red comeback at the edge of his vision but after every few minutes the hand in his hands would squeeze his own in a tender clasp and the red would fade away.

He really was down bad for the eldest prince of the city.

Will never get tired looking at this hug the way Varadha was taking a big stride towards deva almost running into his arms and throwing himself in his embrace with such force that their bodies and Varadha's whole jewelry shook from the impact.

Deva pulling Varadha closer hugging him impossibly tighter his expression was clear like he's determined and already made up his mind at that point that nothing can separate them anymore. Just look at that possessive hold he has on Varadha's body, the way his fingers dig on his back pressing so closely or that grip on his waist, he will never let Varadha go ever again. And Varadha, Varadha hold Deva like he had missed him so much he can barely stand it, he looks so young and fragile in Deva's safe embrace, like there's nothing he want to do in his life except to be held by Deva's strong hands.

Deva didn't even want their hug to end, Varadha literally had to pull their body away because Deva wouldn't mind at all to stand there just like that for eternity, but Varadha, he wanted to see Deva's face up close, to see how much he has changed, to just take a moment and marvel at the fact that he finally could touch the man that's been occupying his mind and heart all these years.

Deva didn't break eye contact, he keeps on staring at Varadha like he's afraid he might disappear again right in front of his eyes.

Varadha's soft gaze almost shyly looking at Deva from the top of his head then slowly his gaze lower to observe all of Deva, to take in all his image in his memory so he will never forget about him, his lips waver almost like he wanted to say Deva's name over and over again to make sure that this moment is real that Deva is real.

This hug is really one for the reunion and I love how Prashanth build the mood for this hug, even after they have done hugging they still linger with each other like neither want to rush the moment especially with the way Varadha still holding on Deva's arm even after they realized that Amma was in the room with them, he released his hold on Deva by slowly caressing his arm as he let go.

Usually this kind of hug it would just be like two bros hugging and nothing intimate in the way it was frame from the camera angle but this hug was intentional from the background of the fan to build up the romantic atmosphere, and the lingering, gosh, even though I don't mind if it was a longer hug but this was more than enough of what I usually get lol so yeah this hug is like my top three of best reunion hug of all time. 👏👏👏💯💯💯👑👑👑

Here’s my most recent project. My husband, David, goes by @digitalsodamusic and this is his music. I created the video with my own animation couple with some video-editing.

David’s music is instrumental, and digitally produced with Ableton and other song apps. Some of it may remind you of movie soundtracks… It’s a wild mix of orchestral or symphonic music, ballads, heavy metal, “elite” elevator music (one of his friends coined that phrase lol), house music, and sometimes it’s ambient music… There are several amusing themes, and some of the music sounds like a movie soundtrack. Many of the songs could be played while doing tasks, or to meditate. It’s quite eclectic!

DistroKid distributes David’s tunes over a wide array of apps such as Apple and Google Music, YouTube, Deezer, Spotify, Amazon, Tidal, Veco, Boomplay, and TikTok, to name a few. He pays $22.99 for a year, but there are several different packages offered. DistroKid keeps none of the income: it all goes to the musician.

I usually use FlipAClip to create the videos. It’s a simple enough program for me. I find animation, art, and photo/video editing much easier on FlipAClip. It’s a great for animation, videos, or even just drawing art. Sometimes I need more audio control so I may have to use Splice. Splice also has free sound effects, music, and provides several more fonts than FlipAClip. There are also some extra effects and filters on Splice that aren’t on FlipAClip.

In February 2024 I started making this video on FlipAClip, and finished it at the very beginning of August 2024. That’s 2283 single panels! 😮‍💨

If you read the description on the YouTube post, you can find out more information. You will find all the people credited for the cat content I edited! There are a lot, and some I can’t seem to find. So if someone else finds them, I’d love to know so I can update the description.
