i need. i need chip to become violently aware of his attraction to his best friend and very suddenly, being in the same space as gillion makes him feel like hes going to spontaneously combust or do something stupid - maybe both in that order. gillion, of course, dense as a brick wall, has No Fucking Idea and thinks chip is like. mad at him or something and thats why hes avoiding him out of nowhere

gillion progressively looking more and more kicked puppy-like the longer chip seems to be fleeing from his presence. when gillion eventually puts together the courage and determination to ask what he did wrong and how he can fix it, he cant even take one step in chips direction before chip stiffens and immediately scurries away. he catches chip watching him train or work from a distance quite often, now, but the second chip sees him looking he turns and walks away. gillion is confused and hurt and doesnt know what to do :(

chip however cannot stop daydreaming about gillion. gillion holding him, gillion kissing him, gillion in the moonlight, gillions smile with big flashy teeth, gillions hands on his cheek and the small of his back, gillions lopsided grin as chip offers him part of his meal. and he feels like hes going to explode, like the love hes felt for gillion has somehow changed until it doesnt fit. like his love for his crew has always found a way to feel too big for his body, and gillion as his best friend was no exception. but now its changed from a squeeze in his chest to a writhing thing that threatens to burst free of his ribs. hes had to ask queen to patch his jacket five times already from the flustered smoldering before she just reinforced the shoulders with a flame-proof material, and there are scorch marks in the deck and railing from his magic acting up in response to that overwhelming surge of emotion.

and the worst part of all this? the worst part is chip is Scared. hes head over heels for his best fucking friend and he is scared. he doesnt know what to do with this. hes never felt like this before, not this strongly, at least, and its as overwhelming as it is dangerous. hes terrified hes going to fuck it up. just by existing. hes going to ruin this, ruin this good thing he somehow managed to wrench out of a world that seems to want him in a pit of misery. hes scared hes asking too much of it, now. that he'll lose his grip and lose this entirely. he was already scared that hed taken more than he deserved by putting together a crew this good, god help him if he tries to take this, too.

i love the Ferins and their fire motif

Ava Ferin is a controlled blaze, she is a fire that burns what it is supposed to, she is strong and her flames rarely lash out but when they do they burn who they touch. She has control and poise and elegance. She is the beauty that comes in destruction. The unfortunate thing with a controlled burn though is it will go out, and it goes out by those who set its hand.

Jayson Ferin is the match, he started all the fires. his fire is destructive and it destroys what it wants. there is a control to it, setting what he wishes ablaze yet it burns bright and powerful. He is the fear that goes through your gut when you smell smoke.

Drey Ferin is the embers, his fire has been burned out but he is still fighting still trying to burn despite the dark smoke that curls away. He finished his destruction yet he won’t go out. those around him nurture the embers trying to relight that blaze inside him.

Jay Ferin is a wildfire. she was started by man, yet she broke from her confinement, she burns out of control. she is a bright flame that licks out at everyone around her. She is an angry blaze that refuses to be contained and tamed by that which made her. She will not be put out, she will burn herself out eventually but on her own time. She will not go down without a fight. she is destruction, she is warmth, she is light.
