In 1862, it was occupied by Union soldiers. But two years later, Confederate General John Bell Hood and his officers planned for the Battle of Franklin. “The bottom, the north side where the piano is, was actually used as a surgery [ward], with pieces and parts being thrown out the window, soldiers interred in the yard and locally through here as well,” Chuck Byrn told News 2. At times, the home can feel cold and heavy, and many can still hear, see, and smell the spirits of the past – from rosewater perfume to the hair tonic of a well-groomed man. News 2 didn’t use any special equipment when we visited, but when we got back to the news station, we heard what sounded like a baby crying during our interview at the mansion.

Tear down and rebuild, even after death.-------🍷 The history of this place commenced on December 6th 1818 when the founder Nathaniel Frances Cheairs IV was born. When Nathaniel was a young adult he had met a woman named Miss Susan Peters McKissack, daughter of Master William McKissack II. He wished to marry Miss Susan but Nathaniel III had a rule. All Nathaniel's must marry A Sarah, and she was a Susan. The want for tradition was so strong that Nathaniel IV was offered $5,000 in gold to find a bride named Sarah. Nathaniel decided to marry Susan. Due to Nathaniel IV following through and marrying Susan he was offered by his father-in-law offered Nathaniel all the brick and slave labor he needed to build his home. Nathaniel III eventually conceded and let the marriage happen. On September 2nd 1841 was the date the two married, and received $5,000 in gold as a gift. For the first ten years of their marriage, Nathaniel and Susan lived in two-story log cabin located on the back of the property. It was in that cabin that Susan gave birth to three of their four children. In 1851, the Cheairs completed construction on a smokehouse and kitchen house. In 1852 the Cheairs had begun the construction on what is now the Rippavilla mansion. The family lived above the kitchen house in that time until 1855 when the mansion had finished. Soon after Susan gave birth to their 4th and last child in the mansion. The family lived happily in the house until 1861 at the start of the Civil War. -------🍷 In the Civil War the house had been used as a Hospital and a Headquarters for the Confederates and the Union soldiers. On November 29th 1864 the Union soldiers had crept through in the night and snuck through the barricaded highway in front of the Rippavilla mansion. When the Confederates were alarmed there was a battle outside the house with 850 total deaths right outside the house. -------🍷 Jeannette Cheairs, one of the five children born to Nathaniel Francis and Susan Cheairs of Rippavilla, which is reported to be haunted. It is reported that she will turn the nursery light on and off and has been spotted as an apparition going down and up the stairs, she has also been spotted walking down the main upstairs hallway. Other things that have been reported are sounds and flashes of light that can only be described as cannons.

A summary of 2017

2017 hasn’t been the best for me, admittedly. I had high hopes for the year but to show you as my good friend @ellynore-moonwood did, I show you each month of the year in summation.

January: Nothing much really happened this month except practicing for my first audition.

February: My first audition for America’s Got Talent. Didn’t go the way I planned and it was one of the most gut wrenching feelings I’ve ever felt. Trying to put on a fake smile only to break down into tears behind closed doors. “A Date With Markiplier” came out which sparked my interest in the ego, Darkiplier. The same day, my boyfriend and I went to see Fifty Shades Darker(Which I still want to punch him for)

March: Jacksepticeye’s Pax intro was one of the coolest things Jack had done at that time. I don’t remember but it was around this time I ran into voiceover work from @distortional and they eventually started @theglitchedsystem

April: My first true anime convention. Reunited with an old friend from elementary school that I hadn’t seen in a long time.

May: Left my first job and got with a new job, making more money.

June: Started play Friday the 13th The Game not long after watching a voice actor named Sebastian Todd play it

July: Lost my job. Something that could’ve been prevented but the blame fell onto me. “Darkiplier vs Antisepticeye” is released. My boyfriend’s 28th birthday

August: “Kill Jacksepticeye” was released, revealing Anti coming back with more bite than bark this time.

September: Went on my first ghost hunting event and was not disappointed. Went to a place called Rippavilla Plantation in Spring Hill, Tennessee. My American Idol audition. Was told my voice “Wasn’t strong enough”

October: My 21st birthday and Markiplier’s You’re Welcome Tour stopped in Nashville, Tennessee. I was so happy to see one of my idols. It was an amazing event and was so excited to see @markiplier @crankgameplays @lordminion Tyler, Bob, Amy, and Kat(I know Molly was there but she was probably backstage). “Who Killed Markiplier” was released, shedding new light onto Darkiplier and Wilford Warfstache and their origins. Anti is teased in a pumpkin carving video called “Jacksepticeye The Silent Movie” Was originally called something else but don’t remember.

November: A year since I’ve dyed my hair purple.

December: A year since my boyfriend and I started dating. Soul Calibur 6 and Devil May Cry HD Collection for the PS4 was announced. My interest in voice acting started to grow. “The Last Jedi” is released and it was amazing! Jacksepticeye’s Save The Children Livestream along with the Overnight Watch. Anti appears, making me afraid of him and paranoid into the morning hours as I work. The end of TheGlitchedSystem. Will not go into details of what happened but as far as I’m concerned, people should burn in Hell for some of the things they have said and done. I will never betray my good friends.

And there you have it. It may seem like there were some good things that happened but it seemed like they were rare. I hope and pray that this year will change for the good

We recently had the opportunity to visit sites associated with Confederate General John Bell Hood’s Nashville Campaign during the Civil War. Launched in the fall of 1864, the campaign featured Hood’s desperate attempt to reverse the tide of war in the west after the fall of Atlanta to Union forces led by General William T. Sherman. Determining not to attack Sherman’s numerically superior force, Hood decided to make a bold march into Tennessee and threaten Union-held Nashville. Hood began by marching his army west into Alabama looking for a place to cross the Tennessee River. Failing to dislodge Federals at Decatur, Hood eventually crossed at Tuscumbia on a pontoon bridge to begin his northward movement.

The Old State Bank in Decatur was standing during the Civil War and is today a museum.

The bank is the starting point of an entertaining walking tour highlighting sites and structures in Decatur which played a role in the campaign.

A pedestrian bridge connecting Tuscumbia and Florence now spans the site where Hood’s army crossed the Tennessee River.

Hood’s first goal was to attack and destroy an isolated Union force under John Schofield before it could reunite with the main force stationed in Nashville. Hood managed to get in between Schofield and Nashville at Spring Hill on November 29, 1864, but failed to cash in on the golden opportunity when Union troops literally marched right past Confederate bonfires unopposed and escaped the trap.

Hood’s army arrived at Columbia on November 26 where it found Schofield had entrenched. Hood crossed the Duck River a few miles away in an attempt to cut off Schofield’s route to Nashville.

St. John’s Episcopal Church, where Confederate General Patrick Cleburne (killed at Franklin) was buried before later being exhumed for burial in his home state of Arkansas.

  The failure of the Confederate army to block the road to Nashville at Spring Hill was one of the most inexcusable blunders of the war. For Hood’s plan to have any chance of success, he had to defeat the Federal armies in detail. The site of the fighting at Spring Hill is marked by an interpretive trail beginning and ending at Rippavilla Plantation.

The failure at Spring Hill led to a suicidal attack at Franklin the next day. Featuring some of the most vicious fighting in the entire Civil War, the failed late afternoon assaults on a strong Federal line on November 30 decimated Hood’s army.

The battlefield at Franklin is an urban one but important sections of it have been well interpreted and preserved from development. Visitors will want to see the walking trail opposite of the Carter House, which provides a synopsis of the battle and marks the spot where General Patrick Cleburne fell.

The Battle of Franklin raged literally on the grounds of Carnton, which served as a hospital after the battle. At one point the bodies of four Confederate generals were laid on its back porch while the army passed by to pay its respects.

General Hood observed the fighting at Franklin from nearby Winstead Hill. The site contains an assortment of monuments and a detailed bronze map of the battle showing the terrain over which it was fought.

Left with no other option, Hood limped on to Nashville one step behind the Federals he had encountered at Franklin to besiege a city protected by an army larger and much better supplied than his own. After a short standoff during a bitterly cold winter, the now-united federal force under George H. Thomas moved out of its entrenchments to attack Hood on December 15, 1864. Hood’s line barely held, but when the attack renewed on the 16th the once proud Army of the Tennessee was routed and retreated into oblivion.

Shy’s Hill, named for Col. W. M. Shy of the 20th Tennessee who died in the fighting here, witnessed a pivotal part of the action on the final day of the Battle of Nashville.

It is preserved as a small interpretive park in a residential neighborhood.

The Peace Monument celebrates the valor of the fighting men of both armies.

We traced Hood’s army from Decatur all the way to Nashville. We were surprised at the amount of interpretation that exists. Spring Hill has a nice driving tour and Franklin ranks as one of the best Civil War preservation stories of the last several decades, as key parts of a battlefield has literally been rescued from development. It was only a few years ago that a fast food restaurant sat where some of the most poignant events of the war in the west unfolded. Thanks to the diligent work of the Civil War Trust and numerous like-minded local groups, visitors can now better appreciate the ebb and flow of an epic battle. Urban sprawl in Nashville has claimed most of the Civil War sites in the area, but there are a few places that contain surviving earthworks and markers and proved well worth the effort to find them. We highly recommend this tour to anyone interested in the war in the West.
