When it comes to reading I got 2 moods.

1. Not reading a book in 5 months.

been having massive bert brainrot this past week…….please spare me ur modern au bert x reader headcanons…..

okay lemme see -cracks knuckles-

Bertie is an acts of service and quality time typa person

Even if you're both doing your own separate things he likes to be in the same space with you

He also has such calming energy that I feel like most things you all do together--if they're his planning--tend to be really lowkey

Like staying in and putting a big puzzle together with eachother while listening to a podcast you're both interested in. Or even new music albums of different artists you like, since I hc Bertie being a musician, even just as a hobby. And he appreciates all types of music! Plus, something like this leaves a lot of opportunity for you two to talk and learn more about eachother!

I can see him being lowkey silly at random moments with his partner. Like for some reason I just got the image of you all showering together in the morning, no hanky panky antics this go around, you've got your eyes closed rinsening your hair and when you open your eyes he's used the shampoo lather in his own hair to swoop it into some silly style and is regarding you with a ridiculous expression and makes you instantly burst out into giggle fits.

Or, being out at a coffee shop and getting a drink with lots of foam so it leaves a lil milk mustach on his face after he takes a sip, just cause he knows it'll make you smile and laugh.

Anytime Bertie sees you wearing something of his, his heart starts to race and he can't help but smile. Like, every single time. No matter how long you've been together, it makes him giddy to see you in his things. Especially if it's one of his big comfy sweaters. Makes him want to stop whatever he was in the process of doing and hold you close.

I think I mentioned it in another hc post but I have this idea that for his birthday--even if you both go visit with his family or have other plans too--that its a day were he likes to learn a new recipe alongside you, that you both make together. I dunno, for some reason lots of my hc of Bertito and Sasha revolve around food lol

Bertholdt is generally very quiet, which makes him a wonderful listener and great observer. While he's open to sharing about his day and experiences, he's much more content to listen to you talk about yours.

What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.

Both characters have a tragic backstory when they entire family was killed, and both grew up becoming stronger to avenge them. What I like about such anime is that it’s admirable to see a character who went through pain and suffering but  emerging stronger as he or she discovers their true self while learning to overcome present challenges with the baggage of the past which is not easy.

I read the book ‘Legends of the Samurai’ and realized that quite a number of historical figures such as Uesugi Kenshin (Nagao Kagetora) had a tough childhood before he became known as the fearless Tiger of Echigo in his adulthood, able to defend his homeland and defeat stronger warlords like Takeda Shingen and Oda Nobunaga.  

When Kenshin was a child, his father went into battle but only to be betrayed and ambushed. With the army in disarray, Kenshin’s eldest brother took control and during the power struggle, Kenshin’s elder brother was killed and Kenshin became the next target as his eldest brother sees him as the next threat to his succession. As a result, he was hidden in Rinsen-ji temple where he spent his childhood years alone without a family, studying Buddhism and martial arts. 

Several years later, Kenshin reunites with his father’s old friend, Usami Sadamitsu, along with a few other loyal supporters of his late father. The reason they suddenly decided to find Kenshin after all these years is because his eldest brother, Harukage, had become a warlord, tearing the province apart. At first, Kenshin was reluctant to fight his own brother, even though his brother tried to kill him as a child and is believed to have killed his elder brother. 

Realizing that he has to take control of the province before it was destroyed by his brother, Kenshin finally agreed to wage war and succeeded in wresting control from Harukage and eventually became the head of the family clan of Nagao Clan, a retainer to the Uesugi Clan at the mere age of 19 years old.

Later, Kenshin provided a refuge to a lord, Uesugi Norimasa (Uesugi Clan), who fled from the expanding Hojo Clan. Kenshin later became his heir and changed the name from Nagao Kagetora to Uesugi Kenshin becoming the Lord of Echigo. Then two more lords requested help from Kenshin to defend their homelands from the expanding Takeda Clan. Realizing that Echigo might be the next target, Kenshin agreed to fight the war on two fronts, against Hojo and Takeda.

They underestimate Kenshin due to his young age and inexperience as a Lord but soon learn he is not someone to be trifle with. Even though he had no experience waging war outside of his province, he had proven capable in defending on his own turfs. Unlike most of the lords at the time, Kenshin had no interest in expanding his territory or becoming a Shogun like the ambitious Oda.

This is why Uesugi Kenshin remains my favorite Samurai of all. Because in an age where Samurai are ambitious for lands and titles, often times, letting power get into their heads and stepping over honor for greed, Uesugi Kenshin is one of those rare Samurai who remembered his place and why he became a Samurai. Perhaps because his hardships and his time with the monks during his childhood years shaped him into a better man than the others.

I recommend the film Heaven and Earth which is about Uesugi Kenshin. The actor’s portrayal of the character is excellent that I cannot see anyone else acting the role as the character is just as what I imagined him to be when I read about him.

"The extension of the Ueno bluff northwest beyond Kan'eiji leads into the area known as Yanaka - today, as in the Edo period, a quiet area dense with Buddhist temples and their cemeteries. It was in this area that three temples from the mid-eighteenth century entered into a friendly competition to create unusual gardens to lure visitors from downtown Edo. In time these came to be known collectively as the "Flower Temples" (Hanimidera) or the "Temple Gardens" (Jiin Rinsen) of Nippori, and in the spring many visitors came from the city to enjoy the flowering landscapes. Hiroshige has here depicted the middle of the three temples, Shushoin, which together with Myoryuji to the south (out of sight to the right in this view) was known particularly for the curious arrangement of artificial mountains and fantastically shaped rocks and trees in its gardens. Against the right margin, just above Hiroshige's signature, there is a topiary boat pointing leftward, an evident attraction of Shushoin that also appears in views of that temple in Hiroshige's Ehon Edo Miyage (vol. IV) and in the Edo Meisho Zue. In the middle distance, at the top of the bluff, a gate leads out onto the ridge road, beyond which Suwa Shrine lay. To the left of the gate appear the roofs of a shrine lying within the temple's precincts, identified in the Edo Meisho Zue as dedicated to "Banjin." Literally "Watch God," this curious syncretic deity was an assembly of Shinto gods whose duty was to guard the Buddhist sutras in rotation, one for each of the thirty days of the lunar month.
