no bc the way nagi has a tendency to try and psychoanalyze everyone she meets… i would pay good money to watch her walk up to josh and be like ‘allow me to share some observations i’ve made’ and talk for like fifteen minutes (she had only spent five minutes with him beforehand) and he just can’t even speak

I think the great thing about TWEWY as a series is that like any well-written teenage bildungsroman, it’s able to look past the bullshit teenagers project about themselves/others and call them out on it while at the same time, being completely understanding towards them. Teenagers in games tend to be incredibly annoying and difficult to withstand for a lot of players out there since teenagers, like you and me probably were/are at some point, are often incredibly annoying, hormonal balls of angst. TWEWY never lets these traits hang, and is always extremely critical of the characters, rather than just implying that they suck, and makes the characters come across as kids going through that awkward phase in their lives.
The other half is that the games are also aware that these characters are human, and these traits don’t just pop up out of nowhere. Neku is dealing with survivor guilt concerning the death of his best friend and feels overwhelmed by the world. Shiki is completely lost in who she wants to be and what to do, hence her imposter syndrome and self-esteem issues. Beat is terrified that his tough guy attitude will hurt the people he cares about but doesn’t know any other way to be, which he hates himself for.
Rindo is deathly afraid of taking responsibility for potentially life-changing decisions and tries to avoid it by clinging onto others for guidance so that if things do go wrong, he has a scapegoat to conveniently pass his responsibilities onto, hence why he lashes out whenever people try to force those choices onto him. Fret has PTSD over his best friend’s suicide and is trying to hide his true feelings out of fear of getting hurt again, hence his overly enthusiastic behavior and seemingly carefree attitude. Nagi is a hyperempath who struggles with trying to find an appropriate channel through which to express her feelings and suffers from social AND performance anxiety. And then there’s everything about Shoka.
When these characters act obnoxious, weird, etc, there’s always a reason, always an understandable way to trace these behaviors. It wants the characters (and by extension, you) to grow past their flaws and allows them to be flawed but nonetheless likable/interesting characters, which I think is really important for the demographic these games are mainly catered towards.

What do you think of the sequel of twewy then? You talk a lot about the original but I'm interested in your opinion of the second part because I saw a few fans disappointed :o
OKAY. Omg.
So first of all? Soundtrack? SLAPS. We won. We won with the sequel soundtrack. I actually prefer some of the new remixes to the original!
The artwork? Stuck to the original style. Can’t complain at all. The new designs? PEAK. They’re so cool. There’s new shopkeepers- who look AWESOME- who have LORE. We can access NPC LORE. I read about one who is married to one of the players? Catch me eating popcorn at that story.
Shout out to the sprites you get when you’re feeding your party members? They’re so cute. In original TWEWY we just had a voice telling us if they liked it after I’ve fed them. NOW we get to know via their face going 🤢 or 🥺 BEFORE they eat so I can give them something they definelty like! and I think that’s fun and funky fresh.
Gameplay? Fantastic. Absolutely brilliant. - the original game had a switch port and honestly? I really think they should’ve done better with the controls. What worked and was beautiful for the ds- felt very clunky on the switch. Especially when playing console? I mean what in the Wii controller buLLSHIT. I need my attacks ACCURATE and on tv that’s very very hard. My friend managed it but? Maybe I just need to get good LSLGFSPALDL. But NEO twewy? beautiful. Perfect. Great for the switch. no complaints on the new battle system.
The story:
edit: THE HUMOUR IS THERE. I FORGOR. I forgot how fucking funny it is. The amount of screenshots I have? Hilarious. Not any like quotable moments like there is in the original game. But there’s so much silly billy shit going on. Bunch of CLOWNS I swear.
Its messaging is not driven home as much as the original twewy is. Like my friend had to explain to me what they were doing because it’s very very subtle. The characters are changing but only just a little. -unlike the first game which, like? At the end of the game? These guys are CLEARLY not the same people who entered the game!! These are Zuko ATLA level transformations!!!: whereas Neo twewy game says? Hey. Your actions are kinda sucky bro. Ever thought about changing up your style? Like it’s THERE. But it’s clearly not the CORE of the game like the first one. And that’s where it falls flat FOR ME. I LOVE and ADORE character development and it’s just not the focus of NEO twewy. But that doesn’t mean I hated the game. I just don’t prefer it over the original.
What NEO twewy DOES focus on is world building which. I think they’ve made some super cool and interesting choices. Even if I, and many Joshua kiryu fans don’t agree with them. 💛 we just straight up ignore the new lore because we don’t like it- the one around Joshua anyway. They bring in some new reapers and some new plot line surrounding shinjuku. That’s fine. That’s fun. But. Joshua? MY MAN? No square enix, you don’t know my blorbo of 10 years better than me :))
So. In conclusion. I was not DISAPPOINTED. I just think they lost the core of what twewy meant to people for the sake of focusing on the new details theyve added. I think rindo and fret and nagi deserved better development.
ALSO IDK HOW I FEEL ABOUT TEAMS? I MISS PARTNERS. LIKE TEAMS IS FINE I GUESS BUT. PARTNER WAS SPECIAL.
Okokok real conclusion is that I was not disappointed. I had fun. I loved a lot about this game. But the original hit home so hard, and the sequel was just a good game.

Preview under the cut
Morning broke, and from within it spilled a city untouched by rapture.
The gentle, lapping water of the Shibuya River blushed indigo, reflective of a sky that fell like a silken curtain over towers buttoned here or there with a warm yellow light, a few windows stirring, blinking sleepily open. Little moved and all was quiet. Well, quiet as it ever could be. Washed in a dusky lowlight burnt only at the very edges by the dayish gold of a still-rising sun, most of Shibuya was still dreaming as Sho Minamimoto emerged from the dark tunnel’s maw, greeted only by the rumble of far-off cars like a cat’s amused purr.
He breathed fresh air. It was tinged with the familiar scents of scathed asphalt and smoke and filled whatever mimicry of lungs he had left in his chest. Notes of citysong danced in his ears. He heard birds chitter, saw airplanes pull white-tufted tails behind them, both swimming the sky’s murky depths, and him, standing inside of it all, a part of it all, was as alive as a dead man like him could ever be.
But he wasn’t supposed to.
‘Incongruent.’
This time was different than before.
‘Why am I…?’
Sho staggered. A searing pain tore down through his stomach like a knife plunged in and twisted, blood bursting in his head, filling his sight with a pulsing red haze, ruby dark, growing darker. He shut his eyes. Fumbled in blackness. His legs trembled like that of an infant still fresh to the earth; it took all he had left just to keep himself from collapsing into the embrace of concrete beneath his feet.
He would not fall. No, he would hurt and he would ache, he would fracture into pieces, but he would not let himself go wholly and with quiet humiliation into a storm that had since vanished.
And so he started walking.
Shadows of the overpass criss-crossed his path as Sho dragged himself over the gutter’s sloped ridge, keeping low along the city’s underbelly. They were long and soft in the surrounding dimness. Easy to slide into. He knew someone who would’ve loved them (Who? That was lost somewhere in memory), but for him the angles were too stretched, too obtuse, the encroaching sunlight giving too little space to hide. He would have to keep moving. Even as exhaustion weighed heavily on him, sucking at his heels like torrent water and making him think for one wild, confused moment that it was the river wanting him back.
He tried to shake it off, clean his mind of the clinging, gurgled whispers whose voices he couldn’t tell from his own. It was all the same, anyways. A reprise on unfinished business.
You lost
‘I lost.’
He never stood a chance.
When he flexed his hands to make sure he could still feel them, his fingers pressed with splintered nails into palms that hadn’t once brushed the fantastically inhumane coldness of divinity. They were hot and slicked with sweat and dirt from the ground he’d crawled across. His eyes were not reverent, nor were they holy. They were pained by the light that had filled them. Even when they were closed he felt no relief, the image of His split-grinning face twin tattoos on the insides of his eyelids.
White.
‘No’
Teeth.
‘Stop’
Cherubim faces, child’s hands.
Great shafts of light like sterile dreams.
He grasped his hair, tugged hard until it screamed.
Peach lips. Apple cheeks. Fruit of the Lord, piercing his still-warm core.
(It didn’t help)
Him. Him in the center of it all, when the omnipotent hymns of gold and saintly frequencies fell silent, and he met his violet, ice-chip eyes.
‘It hurts’
When he smiled.
‘It hurts.’
When he laughed.
‘It hurts’
When he saw himself in a smear across the floor, everything he ever was or ever could have been left as a stain on God’s front porch.
+ some bonus shitposts

The Reaper’s Game~💀
I made this one because I was tired of seeing Fret and Nagi be ignored when it came to the effects of the Game. They were there, too! As Rindo faced that horror enough times to know what to expect, Fret and Nagi were going up against it for the first time!
Also, in the end, Rindo saved the city, saved his friends, and found Shoka. He got everything he wanted! But Fret lost Kanon and was forced to face his past trauma of losing his friend. I think that would have lasting effects on him and I’d like to see it explored more in the fandom!

NEO: The World Ends With You - Review
Okay so how many of you are familiar with the 2007 game The World Ends With You on the DS?
... Okay, actually a few of you. Now- Who remembers the 2021 sequel NEO: TWEWY?
... Wow, that’s a severe drop off. Especially considering that NEO: TWEWY is a worthy successor.
Summary:
NEO: The World Ends With You is a 2021 game released on the PS4, PC and Switch (which is the version I have). In the game, you return to the city of Shibua three years after the events of TWEWY in the shoes of Rindo Kanabe, an apathetic teen with little connection to others other than his online friend Swallow in Pokemon Go I’m sorry, FanGo. Him and his best friend IRL Fret go out and pick up a suspiciously familiar red and black pin and get involved in a modern fantasy fight.
Where a truck crushes Fret.
...Wait, I’m sorry. Apparently after Rindo ends up in some weird void thing, Fret DOESN’T get squished and they end up in the Reaper’s Game, where they must team up with other Players compete with the opposing teams in order to return to their version of reality or else risk losing and becoming erased from existence.
So, it’s the same basic idea as the original game with the concept of the Reaper’s Game alongside the three weeks of gameplay. And superficially, you’ll follow similar objectives of ‘defeat thing’, ‘solve puzzle’ or ‘beat bad guy’. But the game puts its own spin on these concepts. Puzzles in the game as more about figuring out random details in the background and sorting them out and both of the combat orienated objectives are heavily affected by a major addition to the game- Rindo can turn back time.
Now before anyone thinks they can use this to save scum bosses or anything-this is a story thing, not directly gameplay. What I mean is that sometimes you’ll be faced with an obstacle that appears seemingly out of the blue and Rindo will turn back time to certain previous events where you can undermine the obstacle and then take them on.
Which I think gives me a good excuse to move onto the gameplay setion.
Gameplay:
Despite TWEWY being well known for its stylish gameplay, utilizing various touch screen commands on the DS to execute attacks while using the D-Pad to fight with your partner on the other screen- NEO: TWEWY might actually have a better combat system.
In the game, you now use certain buttons to perform attacks based on what pins are equipped to your teammates. For example, the A/X button is usually used for mashing a close range attack. After fulfilling a certain condition of the attack- usually ending in a finisher move, get a number of hits or inflict a status condition among others- you get a Beatdrop window where if you hit the enemy in the timeframe you build up your ‘Groove’ for a ‘Mashup’.
‘Mashups’ are basically NEO’s version of Fusion attacks- Super moves that inflict a lot of damage with ‘Groove’ being the counterpart to the fusion stars. But whereas Fusion attacks’ resource could be built up and saved without any kind of loss and just dealt damage to all enemies- Groove can be lost either from not performing a Beatdrop in a while or just from exiting a fight. Meaning that you’re incentivized to play aggressively. Just as well, Mashups also change their properties based on what element was last used to complete a Beatdrop. For example- Fire brings down a giant meteor that leaves behind lingering flames, Electric creates a cage of lightning and Darkness fires razor disks right at the target.
Then you have a ‘Killer Remix’, which at 300% is like Persona’s All Out Attack- dealing pure damage, except by mashing a button for an amount of time. Now, I know it sounds like you should aim for Killer Remixes. Yeah, they dish out a lot of damage...but see, TWEWY has a unique feature. It has a dynamic difficulty setting that can be changed at any time. This affects damage obviously but also enemy aggression and speed alongside increasing your pool of drops. So it’s actually more useful in certain situations to just use a certain Mashup. For more info, check out my friend’s notes on Mashups.
And of course, you’re probably thinking you can button mash to get easy Mashups. Well, don’t. Aside from the fact that the reboot system for Pins has returned too, you get an upgrade to your Beatdrop window where hitting at the right timespan gives you extra Groove with the window changing for each different kind of attack. Also- TWEWY’s enemies, Noise, still do not play by ‘wait your turn.’ They will attack you from off screen a lot if you don’t pay attention so you better keep an eye and finger on the dodge button.
And finally for pins- Certain pins will also have certain special effects. More often than not, they’ll cause more damage in certain scenarios. Like tackling Pins will deal more damage if an enemy is immobilized. You can easily use this to chain together certain pins for massive damage, recovered health or even more Groove. SO make sure to use as many different pins as possible.
As for stuff related to stats and more passive combat elements- You have Stats and Threads. Stats are exactly what you think- they determined how much damage you can take, dish out and reduce through HP, ATK and DEF respectively. Like in most RPGs, Stats can be boosted through equipment, or Threads in TWEWY, along with supplying you with additional buffs. However, said buffs are locked behind a fourth stat- Style. As in, you’ll need a certain amount of Style on the character to access the buff. And unlike in most RPGs- Your stats aside from HP DON’T increase. They only increase through eating food. And you can only eat so much before your character gets full but it gets lowered from going through combat. So another reason to engage with the combat- through grinding, it snowballs into getting easier.
Which you’ll need because the game encourages you to be as low of a level as possible. See, just like the difficulty, your level can also be adjusted. With lower levels equaling less HP but better drop rates. And for certain drops, you’ll want to be at Level 1 with equipment that increases the drop rate because 20x drop rate sounds good until you face an enemy with a pin you want at like....3% chance of dropping. So have fun.
Which is pretty easy, given that the game has an addictive combat loop that’s almost rhymic. Which brings us to-
Music
The original TWEWY was known for its amazing and actually super expansive music thanks to an ingenious trick by the developers to save space on the cartridge. Here’s some sample hits for reference.
... Yeah, pretty bombass huh? Especially since everything I linked was the OG DS version. Fun fact, that ingenious trick i mentioned earlier was formatting the music using the same format for voice lines, which saved space and gave more room for music. Which, if you haven’t caught on from the game’s terminology- is pretty damn important to it.
Which brings me to NEO’s own music. Obviously it’s made in a similar vein to the original, that being pop, techno and rock. But saying that the OG and NEO have the same kind of music is like saying a great specialty can of soda and a well brewed coffee are the same kind of drink. The OG is bold and sweet with a certain smoothness that makes it memorable, especially for something like the DS. But NEO? NEO’s songs are a bit more subdued but in exchange have a greater depth of flavor and feel.
To demonstrate my point, let’s revisit one of my samples. Transformation is a very boastful song, meant to convey an arrogant but powerful enemy. Like a storm that hits you in the face as you struggle to withstand the wind and rain. All conveyed by a loud, consistent guitar that matches the powerful drumbeat alongside a bold, consistent voice.
But NEO’s Remix goes a complete different direction with a suspenseful beginning, bursting into a raging chorus as the guitar enters and the drum picks up, returning to a suspenseful verse but with the guitar remaining as a reminder of the storm before. The background is filled a building chant as tension rises before exploding at the end back into that raging chorus. It transitions to that familiar bridge, repeats one last time before hitting its apex and the verses merge into the background as the chorus rages forth.
Akin to an unmatched force of nature, a storm but evolved, forcing you to ride it out and hope you make it out.
NEO’s songs simply have a better narrative woven into them. Which once more carries us to-
Story and Themes
(Okay, no getting around this- Spoiler Warning)
So, the original TWEWY was also really well known for a well written story with clear and concise themes- themes of the power of thoughts, of learning different perspectives, of reaching out to others and forging connections with people all through Neku’s own personal growth. So, does NEO live up to this legacy?
Yep.
Rindo actually shares a few things in common with Rindo- an obsession with certain pieces of tech (Rindo’s phone and Neku’s...earphones), being rather snarky and easily exasperated (with Rindo tending to keep it to himself) and lacking a real connection to other people in general (Rindo’s due to apathy vs. Neku’s misanthropy).
If you paid attention, you’ll notice that the real difference between Neku and Rindo is that Neku’s flaw is more upfront and active whereas Rindo’s is more subdued and passive. And that’s the point- Rindo is far too passive in his life. He’s a teen who, instead of asserting himself so harshly that he pushes away others, relies on others superficially while never truly bonding with them because of his lack of input. The kid is the definition of ‘indecisive’, just not in a blatant way.
And that’s the really cool part of NEO’s writing- it’s more subdued than the original’s. The name of the series, The World Ends With You, is directly explained by the clear mentor character fairly early on in the original and made it’s point VERY clear. Meanwhile, the name and theme of the series in NEO is more implied and demonstrated through the use of teams as a central driving conflict, forcing Rindo to make connections and shape up not just for his sake but for others as well.
He’s not the only example. The first person he truly recruits is the emotional fangirl Nagi, who is outwardly very dorky and expressive but shows a keen insight into people’s emotions. If you pay attention to her reactions and interactions with others- she tends to like people who are more open with themselves while acting cold towards those who aren’t and distant to those who hide a villainous side to them.
Or, to dig up someone who isn’t a main character- the leader of one of the opposing teams, Kanon. At first, she acts as a modern kind of Femme Fatale- an exceptional attractive woman who emphasizes such to try and take advantage of others, like how she steals Rindo and Fret’s points in the first week. But as time goes on, she turns out to be one of the more honorable and fair characters, to the point of being a major ally later on.
All in all, it’s actually quite engaging. Now, is there anything else to add onto here? ... Oh yeah.
Visuals
It’s the OG game but in 3D, using perspective and the new 3D to make Shibuya look truly enormous. As in, the 104 Building now clearly towers over the player now.
... Hey, TWEWY’s original graphics were damn on point. Not much can be improved. Especially for a game that has to run on the Switch.
Conclusion
Look, if you think this is expansive or anything approaching the sort- it really isn’t. There is so much more to discuss about the combat, themes and music. There’s even elements I didn’t bring up, like how the theme of teamwork is further emphasized through a perk web-system called a ‘Social Network’ that gradually expands as you progress through the game, showcasing how you’ve helped and affected others. It’s just that I feel like this is the proper way to introduce you to the game. Because I genuinely want people to pick up and try out NEO. It’s criminally underrated and I think the effort and passion that went into it deserves to be seen and recognized.
Seriously- The game is 28 bucks on Amazon. Go get it.

🎉 General Audiences
🎉 1.9k Words
🎉 For the @twewysecretsanta event!
Shibuya was hosting its very first Pride Parade, and it was doing so in style!
With his feelings affirmed and orientation determined thanks to his sister, Beat had decided to join the group today on a personal mission.
Finding out if Neku was interested in guys.
A little something I forgot to post for my giftee Eddie on the @twewysecretsanta spring edition!
I decided to incorporate the theme of Pride for obvious reasons, plus I thought the prompt was vague enough to have enough wiggle room for something like this. Also love giving my HCs for character's sexualities!
Hope you all like it! 💗
“Damn, dawg. They really went all out on this, huh?”
“You can say that again.”
The duo of legendary players stared in awe at the display around them, taking in their surroundings as they walked side by side down the street.
Everything seemed to have been passed over a giant paintbrush, bringing out all colors of the rainbow in various forms— posters and banners on lamp posts, food stalls by the usual restaurants now serving strangely colorful samples, not to mention the large groups of people wearing clothing that sported all sorts of logos that Beat had only recently learned the names of.
Shibuya was hosting its very first Pride Parade, and it was doing so in style.
Some months after saving the city and returning to their regular lives in the RG, the Reaper's Game survivors had been hanging out as often as they could, catching up on the time that'd been lost. This also included their new friend group of The Wicked Twisters, which brought a new meaning of chaos to their everyday life whenever they spent time together.
And on one such occasion, Fret had almost instantly jumped out of his seat in excitement as he waved his phone around for everyone to see. It was an advertisement for the Pride Parade that was planned to be hosted the first weekend of June, and the brunet was quick to try and convince his friends to have them all go together.
It didn't take long for most people to agree.
Including none other than Beat himself.
As part of getting back into the rhythm of things, the blond started going through different aspects of his life that he'd never considered before. School, self-care and even relationships, with this last one being of particular interest.
Beat had never dated before. Not because he didn't find people attractive, but mostly because at the time of his teenage years he was more focused on taking care of Rhyme. And later, fell into the death game that consumed him for the following three years.
It wasn't until recently that he started contemplating his love life. Or rather, lack thereof.
“So, Rindo says that Fret and Shoka wanted to check a shop by Spain Hill on their way over…” Neku slows his pace as he looks at the group message on his phone. He then turns to Beat with a soft smile and nods ahead of them. “I say it's safe to say we can start without them. It might be a while.”
The blond could feel a flush going through his cheeks at the expression. He hated how that smile rendered him speechless. “F-Fo' sho! Can get some food fo' the others while we at it!”
With a nod of agreement from the redhead, the duo resumed their walking through the streets, and Beat could only sigh to himself with sweaty palms against his pants.
His crush on Neku had come to a surprise to him, and was something he'd only accepted about a month ago.
In preparation for attending the parade, Rhyme explained to him the meaning behind the different flags of gender identities and sexualities that he wasn't aware of. Of course they couldn't cover everything since there were just so many, but there was a particular one that stuck with him while scrolling through the website his sister and him were at.
Pansexual— the attraction towards all people regardless of their gender identity.
Beat felt like this definition encompassed him the best, since he truly didn't care for things such as gender and simply found people to be either attractive or not. But most of all, he came to the realization that he cared mostly for someone's personality and traits rather than anything else.
And his mind instantly drifted towards the boy he'd been searching for so long in the UG.
The skater boy would've never considered Neku as a potential romantic partner in the past— he was selfish, arrogant, closed off from the world, and overall only cared about himself. If anything, who would even want to date someone like that?
But that was before he got to know the real Neku Sakuraba. The guy who was loyal to the bitter end. The guy who would never give up on you even if you gave up on yourself. The guy who was now probably the nicest person Beat had ever met in his life.
And so with his feelings affirmed and orientation determined, Beat had decided to join the group today on a personal mission.
Finding out if Neku was interested in guys.
If the redhead was anything like him, he probably never stopped to consider his sexuality before. For all Beat knew, the other could be as straight as a ruler. He did care an awful lot for Shiki during their time in the game and wanted to do everything in his power to save her. Anyone on the outside looking in would rightfully assume that the two were an item.
Of course, their friends knew this wasn't the case. But that didn't stop the possibility from being there.
This parade was the perfect way to ease into the conversation without it coming out of nowhere. He'd hoped he could slide the question in while they were all looking at the stands with the rest of the group, but now with it just being the two of them, his previous confidence was starting to dwindle.
“How do ya even ask this sorta stuff, man?” Beat began fiddling with the hem of his hoodie while trying to come up with a new plan. He couldn't just outright ask, since Neku would definitely find it suspicious. But with no one there to support him, he wasn't sure where to begin.
He was never a ‘touchy feely’ kind of guy to begin with.
“Hey Beat! Check it out!” Neku's voice resonated against his ears bringing him back to reality, only to find that they'd somehow walked all the way to O-East without him even noticing.
His companion was standing over a particular stall filled to the brim with what appeared to be pins. The salesperson behind the counter merely smiled. “Welcome! Please, feel free to take a look! We also offer discounts the more you buy!”
Beat walked over to take a closer look, and was pleasantly surprised at what was staring back at him.
These were indeed pins, but nothing like the ones they were used to back in the Reaper's Game. They seemed more like badges that one could place on their clothing or backpacks. And each one featured a different flag, along with its iconic set of colors and different puns or phrases that had the blond chuckling before he could stop himself.
“Figured we could snag a couple of these for the others as a gift. They aren't that expensive anyway.” Neku started sifting through the pile and set a couple to the side. Bisexual; for Rindo and Shoka. Lesbian; for Shiki. Aromantic and Asexual; for Rhyme and Nagi respectively. And gay; for Fret.
Starting to look into his own pile, Beat was pleased to find the now familiar set of pink, yellow and blue on a particular pin. He snickered at the phrase printed on it.
‘Pansexual Pirate: Likes all kinds of booty!’
Turning to his friend after hearing the laugh, Neku chuckled alongside him while reading the comical inscription. “That sounds like you alright.”
Beat was about to retort with fake indignation, only to find Neku roaming through his pockets, most definitely ready to pay for the pins they'd selected. But the blond could only count seven, including his own. Which meant Neku was missing. “Yo, Phones! Ain't chu gonna get one, man?”
The redhead stopped midway through pulling out his wallet, and proceeded to give him a sheepish grin in return. “It's fine, I don't really need one. Besides, I didn't bring that much cash with me, so I'd rather spend it on the other stores with everyone else!”
“Is he sayin' that for reals or…?” Beat's mind instantly went to the worst possible outcome. Perhaps his gut feeling was right, and Neku was indeed only interested in girls. A fear that he thought could be true, but he still didn't wanna give up hope, at least until now.
“Actually, young man!” The cheery voice of the salesperson interrupted their conversation, the sweet smile never leaving their face as they gestured towards the stall once again. “Your purchase qualifies you for a free pin! So please, I insist that you take one!”
Both Beat and Neku stared wide eyed for a moment, but the redhead was quick to get back on his feet as he grinned at the salesperson. “Well, thank you. Guess I can't refuse a freebie.”
At that, Neku started sorting through the pile again, but this time Beat's eyes were glued on him the entire time. Could fate be on his side?
It didn't take long for the legendary player to find his desired pin and add it with the rest of them, paying in full and receiving a paper bag with the goodies protected inside. He reached his hand, and pulled out what he was looking for.
Various tones of greens and blues with a singular white stripe in the middle, along with a funny phrase of its own—
‘Come to the gayside! We have rainbows!’
Before he could stop himself, Beat was already shouting in both joy and disbelief. “You into dudes?!”
His face immediately flushed as he realized what he'd said, even after slapping his hand against his mouth as if that could take it back. Neku was startled, but suddenly chuckled and smiled in that way that had Beat's stomach doing backflips. “Um, yeah! I thought everyone knew! Guess I was wrong about that?”
Then suddenly, the smile on the redhead's lips melted into something softer as he looked at his best friend. “Although to be honest, I have a very specific criteria for my perfect guy.”
Letting curiosity get the best of him, the blond lowered the hand that was covering his mouth and tried regaining any dignity he had left with a smirk in the other's direction. “Yeah? And what would that be?”
Seeming pleased that Beat was playing along, Neku started casually placing the pin on his fleece jacket. “Well for starters, the guy has to be funny. I can't be stuck with someone who can't make me laugh. Also these are personal preferences, but I'd say I'm pretty into blond skaters who love their siblings more than anything else…”
The description only quickened the other's heartbeat in anticipation. Perhaps it wouldn't be such a bad idea to give it a shot. “What about dudes who got stuck in a Reaper's Game and maybe became a Reaper once or twice?”
Neku chuckled at that, and reached into the paper bag to pull out Beat's pansexual pin. He approached the taller teen and started fixing it into his skull hoodie, the smile never leaving his lips even when Beat stiffened under his touch. And as quick as lightning and as light as a feather, the redhead's lips brushed against the blond's cheek in a gentle kiss. “Especially those.”
Pink spread across Beat's entire face, yet he could honestly care less as he let the grin on his face take over.
By the time the duo reached their friends, cheers erupted within the group as they saw them hand in hand, smiling and blushing as they tried their best to keep up with everyone's inquiries.
He'd never experienced a Pride Parade before. But if this one was anything to go by, Beat could guarantee that he'd be looking forward to the many more to come, surrounded by the people he cared about most in the whole world.
And in his book, there was nothing better than that.

More obscure muses ( Introduction ) series.
Fandom: The World Ends With You.
Muse #2- Shoka Sakurane.
Age 16-20 ( games )
Shoka Sakurane is a Reaper in NEO: The World Ends with You who belongs to the Shinjuku Reapers. She is a low-ranking Reaper whose job is helping new Players become accustomed to the rules of the Reapers' Game and signing them up for the Reaper Networking Service (RNS). Despite her initial hostility towards Rindo and the Wicked Twisters, she later becomes a Player and joins their team as a party member.
Shoka is introduced as a rude, stubborn, blunt and bored young woman who is extremely snarky and sardonic. She can be very abrasive, arrogant, mocking and condescending towards those she disagrees with, such as Rindo and Fret, to the point where she is arguably a bully. She quickly says that she expected Rindo and Fret to get "slaughtered" as soon as they entered the game. She also tells the duo point blank about them being dead and in the afterlife. Other, lesser instances of her bluntness is her calling their initial team name stupid and dubbing the duo as losers. She seems to enjoy teasing the players and likes getting a rise out of people and treats Rindo as if he were a helpless baby, calling him "Rindykins", asking if the missions are too tough for him, and always departing with a "Later, losers."
At one point, having had enough of her negative attitude, Rindo tells Shoka to shut up and get lost, causing her to wander away after saying he's no fun when he's mad. It is hinted that Shoka is not used to people valuing her opinions; at one point, she tells Rindo that he may have luck with his objective at Shibuya Hikarie. Shoka is astonished when Rindo actually takes her advice and she begins to berate him for doing what she suggested, causing him to call her out on what would even satisfy at her at this point and if she would prefer to be ignored entirely instead.
Shoka is less than enthused with her job of monitoring the Players and views it as one would view any other boring job, not caring about climbing up the Reaper corporate hierarchy as it just means more work. She is quick to leave once her shift is done, even if that means leaving new players in the lurch without proper explanation for the game (it is possible she did this to Nagi Usui hence her confusion). Having grown bored of the Reapers' Game in its current state, she not-so-secretly hopes someone will come along and shake things up. She shows considerable annoyance toward Players who are slow to learn the rules, such as when she calls Rindo and Fret "dummies" and "bozos" when they were unaware of the UG. Despite this, she does also provide some helpful information such as informing them of the need to come in first to escape the game and explaining the differences between the Realground and Underground. She even helps more directly while a Reaper. This is usually done in secret or through her Swallow account.
Shoka is an avid fan of Gatto Nero, enough for the Reaper who tasked them with dressing up with the brand from head to toe to instantly regret it, her saying that the task itself is a 'piece of cake' immediately after it is given out. Her smartphone case is themed after Mr. Mew. She describes herself as being directionless until finding Gatto Nero upon arriving in Shibuya.
Prior to this time, Shoka was rather uncaring about life in general, and rarely made her own decisions, instead going along with whatever happened. She claims that she didn't care whether she was erased or not when she first played the game, and she also became a Reaper in large part because she simply saw no reason not to. At first, Shibuya made her uncomfortable because it forced her to make decisions and define herself among the people of the city, but once she found Gatto Nero, she became more enthused with creating her own style and defining herself on her own terms, eventually bringing her to love the city. The fact that she did not care about returning to the RG also greatly suggests her human life was quite lonely and that she never received much love or appreciation when she alive.
Shoka's brash and uncaring exterior hides her true feelings, to a certain extent. While she did genuinely enjoy being a Reaper, she also ends up becoming disillusioned with it when things go too far, putting Shibuya and the Wicked Twisters in jeopardy. Shoka becomes distressed at this, and ultimately chooses to side with the Twisters during week two in order to help save both them and the city she has grown to love.
Being fired from the Reapers and her FanGO accounts being lost causes her to re-evaluate her life priorities, and her smug attitude begins to dissipate once she experiences vulnerability when she is left to fend for herself against a Noise and is almost erased. Rindo's sympathy for Shoka, asking if she has anywhere to go and if she wants to join their team, transforms her personality as she forms friendships with Rindo, Fret, Beat and Nagi, and decides that she doesn't want to lose them to Shiba's plans. She cares deeply for the team even if she is not the best at expressing it, in particular with Rindo, with whom she played FanGo for three years, and who she eventually becomes friends with in real life. She also has strong friendships with many of the Shinjuku Reapers such as Ayano, who she considers a big sister, and even Shiba and Susukichi, though she seems to not want to admit it.

Tokyo Revenger boy's Reaction to you hide that you’re in the Hospital from them, and they find out.
_Mikey | Baji | Chifuyu | Kokonoi | Mitsuya | Sanzu | Shinichiro | Izana | kazutora | Kukucho | Ran | Rindo | Inui_
M i k e y
Mikey would be on a warpath once he found out you were in the hospital.
But when you woke up, he had worn himself out from being angry.
You would wait for him to wake up, and when he did he would be startled to see you awake.
He would ask you so many questions: “You’re awake? Are you okay? Do you hurt anywhere? Do you want me to get a doctor?” Mikey wouldn’t express anger directly at you until after you were discharged.
But he would stay with you as much as he could, and would hardly get any sleep because he was so worried about your well being (even though you weren’t going to stay for that long).
C h i f u y u
Chifuyu would be extremely worried about you. He noticed you were a little sick lately, so when he heard you were in the hospital,
it was a worst case come true. He would instantly go to the hospital and would pick a fight with anyone who tried to deny him entry to visit you. You would wake up and he would be sitting with his head in his hands.
When he noticed you it was instant fretting over you. When you assured him you were fine and that it was something minor, he would sigh and lean back in his chair.
“You think I care that this is something minor? I care that you are here in the hospital and I knew nothing about it! Tell me if you aren’t feeling well and we come here together! But please… Don’t hide this from me.” Chifuyu may get a bit emotional and would tear up.
You would have to soothe him and promise to tell him. He would stay with you in the hospital for the day you had left there, and wouldn’t sleep– both from worrying about you and to make sure you were sleeping alright.
B a j i
Baji would be sitting on the edge of the bed staring at you when you woke up.
His number one concern would be how you were feeling and if you were in any pain. You assured him that it was nothing serious, and he just didn’t seem satisfied with your answer.
“If it was nothing serious, then you could have told me about it. Even if it was something serious, I would like to know this sort of thing. Your health is important to me, so please don’t hide this from me. I think I almost passed out from the shock.”
You would apologize to Baji and said you didn’t want to bother him. “It would bother me so much more if I didn’t know until after the fact!”
You would apologize and acknowledge your mistake. Baji would visit whenever he could find time, and more often than not he would bring you a snack or two in when he came.
K a z u t o r a
Kazutora is the type who would be a bit restless when he arrived. When you woke up he would be asking the doctors what was wrong with you.
When he noticed you were awake, he would direct all of his questions to you. Any attempt to calm him down wouldn’t go well at all.
You would have to talk him down from his anger, and once he was no longer angry, all that was left was worry for you. “How could you not tell me you weren’t feeling well? Why didn’t I tell you to go to the hospital?”
You would have to assure Kazutora that things like this happened and it was your fault for not checking yourself in sooner. “That really doesn’t make me feel better… Nothing will make me feel better until you get to get out of here.”
You would have to mess with Kazutora in order for him to finally crack a smile, albeit a small one. Kazutora would keep you company for the day or two you had to stay in the hospital. He would argue with the doctors if they tried to kick him out, and if they succeeded he would simply sneak back in later.
Shinichiro
Shinichiro would be crying when you woke up. When he heard your voice, he would instantly race to your side as if it was the end of the world.
He would hug you and you would have to repeat over and over how it wasn’t as bad as it may look.
He wouldn’t say much but would try to listen to you. Shin wouldn’t have to say much to you for you to understand that he was deeply hurt, by your decision to not tell him.
He would wear that on his sleeve. Once he stopped crying, he was relieved that it was nothing major and felt silly for crying so much. You would feel bad and promise to tell him how you were feeling truthfully from now on.
He would pick you when you were discharged and wouldn’t leave your side the entire day. “I want to make sure your a hundred percent.”
M i t s u y a
Mitsuya would be silently reading when you woke up. He would glance at you and continue to read his book.
You could feel the anger steaming off of him and were too scared to say anything at first. He scared you out of your skin when he asked, “Well? Aren’t you going to say anything?” You would begin to apologize for not telling him about the hospital, and he would seem slightly confused.
“Oh… I guess I should be upset about that too…” You’d ask why he was upset if not for that reason, and he would say he was mad at himself. He should have forced you to come to the hospital the instance you were sick.
You’d insist it wasn’t his fault, but he would continue. “No, it was my mistake for not saying what I thought. So I think I’ll have to be much more forward with you from now on.” It sounded scary to you. Mitsuya essentially would come when he could, and would give you the silent treatment for the next several days to come.
S a n z u
Sanzu is much more stubborn. I feel like he would be tempted to visit you a lot, but he would be too angry to do it.
You weren’t willing to tell him that you were in the hospital to begin with, so why should he visit you? He would find himself standing outside the door, unable to enter.
In the end, he would call you from outside the door and scold you over the phone. “Next time, we can go to the hospital together… Just please don’t do this ever again.” Sanzu would believe that you didn’t trust him enough to tell him this, and you apologized if you came off that way.
You would say that you knew he would panic, and that would cause him to open the door and argue with you in person. You would laugh as he scolded you. He would stay with you and glare at you every once in a while. He would also help you when you were discharged.
K a k u c h o
Kakucho is very lost when he finds the news. He doesn’t know what to do when he sees you in the hospital bed and is just lost.
He seems out of it till he hears your voice. He comes back to life and yells your name. He asks you several questions and if you didn’t answer him right away, then he would hit the button that summons a doctor to answer them.
He would cause chaos in his own caring way, and you would have to scold him for causing disarray at a hospital.
Leading him to scold you for hiding this from both of you. Essentially, the remainder of your visit would become a bickering fest between you two with no clear resolution other than your discharge.
From then on, if you so much as sneezed in front of Kukucho he would grab his coat and drag you to the hospital to get it checked out.
I n u i
Inui was concerned about your health before the hospital, but once he heard you were in there? He was in full on mothering mode.
He would bring you food and nag at you to eat and take care of yourself the entire time. He wouldn’t touch much on the fact that you hid the truth from him, and would be so much more concerned about your well being. That said, once you were healthy, prepare for an earful from Inui.
“You can’t just wait until you’re about to pass out to go to the hospital!! That’s crazy talk!” Inui would now give you a look whenever you coughed in front of him, a look that read: “If we go through what we did last time, I swear I’ll go insane–”
I z a n a
Izana would fight a lot of people. Since he came in angry, the hospital was reluctant to let them in.
The doctors would tell him he had to do something, he wasn’t going to be happy go lucky doing it. He was fuming just sitting beside you in the hospital. You’d expect that he would direct that anger at you once you woke up, right? Wrong.
He would actually be caring at first and ask about how this happened and how you felt at the moment.
But once all of those “formalities” were out of the way, then he would direct that anger at you. “How could you hide it until you are in the hospital!? Do you know how worried sick I was to hear about this? Don’t ever do this sort of thing again!” Izana would always turn a little serious from then on when he saw you and asked how you were doing.
R a n
Ran is in full on nag mode when he finds out you are in the hospital. You don’t have to be awake for him to start nagging.
The instance he opens your hospital door and sees you asleep, he would start nagging. “I swear to GOD, you must be out of your mind if you thought you could hide this from me forever! AH! So help me when you wake up I swear I’m going to give you an earful, just you WAIT!” Essentially, Ran would hype himself up so much that when you finally did wake up, he wouldn’t have much to say. So? He would play it off as if he was angry and shove a tangerine at you.
“Here! Eat IT!” Ran would sincerely worry about you and help you at discharge, and would take you to hospital upon hearing a single cough.
R i n d o
Rindo is another one to be silently angry when you first wake up.
He would ask you how you were feeling, and you’d say you were fine. “Is this the truth, or am I going to turn around and find out you really aren’t?” You would feel guilty and apologize.
This is one of the few times that Rindo would seriously scold you. It truly hurt him when he had to find out from his brother that you had wound up in the hospital. After you were discharged, Rindo would be lost in his own thoughts. It would take a little while, but he’d be back to normal if you gave him some time.
K o k o n o i
Koko wouldn’t really know what to do. He would be angry at you and himself, worried about your well being, and concerned with how you would feel seeing him.
He had all these thoughts going through his head as he waited for you to wake up. When you did, he wanted to be tough and stand by himself.
You shouldn’t have hid it from him. But he was just so relieved that you were okay that his facade melted away almost instantly. He just so glad to see you okay and well and that it was nothing major. Koko would realize a lot from worrying about you– like how much he cares about you and your well being.

The World Is Yours
God I love this song.
When we initially hear The World Is Yours, we don’t hear it as its own beast. We instead hear it as part of NEW GAME, the opening theme of NEO: The World Ends With You, which could also be argued to be the entire game’s main theme. As NEW GAME progresses, the “remix”-y nature of the song becomes clear as sections from other pieces of the soundtrack are blended in (Twister, INCONGRUOUS, and We’re Losing You). That initial sound becomes muddied amidst the other songs, breaking out its chorus at the halfway point for a brief moment before it’s lost again.
Why does that matter? Because that serves as a beautiful reference for where Rindo begins the story at. Symbolized by his face mask (the speak-no-evil to Neku’s hear-no-evil headphones), Rindo is terrified of making decisions. Whether for himself or his friends, we see in the beginning of the game how much he struggles to both speak up and speak his mind.
We get to see Rindo’s inner monologue; constantly doubting himself, second guessing decisions and laboring over every little detail. To an unhealthy degree, often. It’s too much effort to make all the big decisions, so he simply lets Fret or Nagi figure it out. In those situations where his time travel is needed, he agonizes over every decision and mistake and rippling effect. Facing the consequences of his actions proves to be too difficult, and he continues to defer to his friends even though they are relying on him to lead them through the Game.
Rindo has no voice of his own, and that is reflected in NEW GAME. The fucking sick guitar riffs and vocals struggle to break through the wall of noise (haha get it) of the other pieces present in the song. Even when compared to their reprisal in The World Is Yours, they sound just a tad bit subdued; the guitars don’t blare as loud, and the vocals seem to drone instead of scream.
Somewhere in the middle, the entire game happens but The World Is Yours is eventually revealed as the other side of this musical coin. Leaving this until the very end, the literal final boss theme, was a genius move even outside of the song itself. We hear all of the other tracks that are part of NEW GAME throughout the game well before this one, and you may be left wondering “hey, what song do those fucking sick guitar riffs come from?”. It made me grin ear-to-ear, at least.
So Rindo, at the end of his journey, is facing the literal embodiment of his mistakes; a phoenix forged of those malformed souls left behind from alternate, abandoned timelines GOD THIS GAME IS SO GOOD. And as the phoenix screeches in a swirling void reminiscent of the Xemnas fight from KH2, the opening preamble to The World Is Yours starts up; a fantastic build up to a killer track and the perfect anthem of Rindo’s growth throughout the game.
It's supposed to be hard If it wasn't hard, everyone in the world would do it The hard is what makes it great Making mistakes is proof that you challenged The world is yours
And then we’re hit with the full weight of the guitars, the drums, the defiantly screaming vocals, and eventually the trumpets (??) of the full song, which I can safely say is the definitive theme for Rindo (at least, as far as I’m concerned).
I won’t go into every lyrical nugget because this has already gone on longer than I expected, but the rest of the song echoes that opening verse; Rindo has finally found his resolve. He has found his voice. After losing everything and being given the chance to set things right, he tears through the noise of the other tracks of doubt and fear in his mind, and screams a song of confidence and determination in their wake.
The world is yours, Rindo.
(P.S. Can we appreciate the genius of the lyrics:
Watch it burn Like a firebird I’m coming back
Like bruh. The double meaning of fighting a literal phoenix but THEN ALSO the reading of Rindo rising from the ashes of his mistakes, of the marred timelines he gave rise to, in order to set things right? This game is a masterpiece.)

I think playing neo without having the twewy context must actually be a pretty interesting experience.
Just imagine. You're as confused and lost as Rindo and Fret are. You don't know what this guy Minamimoto's deal is. You are shocked when you learn they are dead. You truly buy into the Neku hype only to be a little disappointed (as Rindo was) when you learn it's someone else.
This makes the experience more real since the player will relate even more to Rindo by being just as confused as he is.
Also imagine the last day? Imagine not knowing a thing about the og twewy and seeing a weird guy with a very high-pitched voice appear and just. do nothing but you know that he must be important somehow? Since Neku and Beat know him? And then after letting you defeat the boss he just comes up, reveals that he's like the big boss of the UG and then makes Shoka disappear?? The nerve of the guy?? I'd be yelling at my screen and hating Josh with all my heart.
If anyone sees this and has played neo without any twewy context beforehand please tell me what were your reactions because that must've been something.
#it would be funny to like play neo and then play twewy#the true rindo experience#imagine having played neo until the end#knowing neku as the legendary player nice and supportive and forgiving and then you launch twewy and he's the biggest jerk on earth#i love twewy so much#no matter how you discover it it's always an experience#twewy#ntwewy#neo twewy#ntwewy spoilers#neo twewy spoilers#léa rambles

So... flipping heck, where do you even start with this?
Rindo blinked and everything was set right by the vertical blue sky beam, dropping in to save the day after fore shadowing its heroism across countless action movies, except the sky beam missed a spot/was a bit late and all of Rindo’s friends, the whole of the rest of the Wicked Twisters, are all still gone.
But like, gone gone. As gone as can be. Rindo’s memories seem to be the only place they still even exist.
That is messed up!
I wanted to say that if I were Rindo, I’d go home to that mother of his that was just confirmed to exist and talk to her about all this because he’ll need help processing all this trauma (and I’d hope that if anyone was to help him with that, it’d be his mother) but then it hit me that he’d have to explain the entire plot of this game to her and establish that he has a group of friends that he heavily bonded with over three weeks that would likely be perceived as an overnight event to her, and that said group of friends no longer exists but he alone can remember them.
Rindo would sound like he’d lost his mind. He can’t explain that to her, or anyone for that matter. He’s suffering from an incredible loss that we know means pretty much everything to him because we’ve seen that, especially given how close his friendships with Fret and Swallow/Shoka was, but he can’t share that pain with anybody. He can’t explain it, he can’t vent and he can’t even look for answers or try to do anything about it.
He really is well and truly alone.
After going through a whole game’s worth of finding love and unity with his friends.
And now he’s lost all of that and is stuck feeling like everything he did was inconsequential. Like he tried so hard and got so far but in the end, it doesn’t even-[gunshot]
This is like the emotional pain I felt watching No Way Home’s ending, but like, so much worse.

Conversation
To Rindo, how does it feel knowing the Identity of Swallow.
Rindo: I mean, what am I meant to say? That it shocked me, that all that time, my best friend whom I known online was... her?
Fret: Gotta say, calling Shokie your best friend, it kind of rubbed me the wrong way, like, I thought I was your BF.
Nagi: Admittedly, I too have misinterpret you and Lord Tosai where in a A rank relationship.
Rindo: Sorry man, but comparer to them, you wasn't up to be the one person that I relayed on.
Nagi: Indeed, you did relayed on them for quest that you was uncertain upon, even if the question in answer was clearly there.
Rindo: And that just it, I offend ask Swallow for Advice, even my every day life. Not just FanGO.
Rindo: Like, it would be like you having someone on the other end that help your in your life and everything on EleStra.
Nagi: Well I do sure my wisdom upon EleStra on anyone that seek my wisdom upon.
Nagi: So realistic, I'd would be in Lady Shoka places.
Fret: Mind you Rindude, it really creepy if you think about it, you have a dead girl, from the beyond the grave, helping you.
Rindo: I... I really don't want to think about that Interpretation.
Rindo: I don't even blame her for not telling me that she's Swallow.
Rindo: Along with why she acted the way she was to me. I'd would push her away from finding out that I was her Rindragon if I was in her shoes.
Rindo: And man, I only knew about it when we both was about to died in a fallen Shibuya, she only told me after she give her life to save me.
Rindo: And she was about to let herself be erased, giving up her power as a Reaper, all for that to save Shibuya and me, without me know that she was Swallow?
Rindo: I don't even want to know what'd happen if I didn't know. Or if Joshua didn't send her to RG to be honest.
Rindo: I mean, it a mistake, and she own up to it. But man, I'd be more lost without her... without them.
Nagi: You know, I did talk to Lady Shoka about this and she said in her own words "I just thought he'll be find without me, like he could had find another FanGO member that could help him in life, or hell get some from you, Fret, Neku, even Worms-for-Brains. I just didn't think I was that special to him." That 'you' were referring to me, of course.
Rindo: And she not wrong. I could have. I just couldn't bring myself to befriend another FanGO member. And I guess she did thought of that I'd would, given how I saw her new account "Griffin" in the friend request without any idea that was her.
Fret: And hey, if you did came to us, we would happily help you Rindude.
Rindo: Dude, You don't even play FanGO.
Fret: Y-Ye know what I mean, right?
Rindo: I guess.
