🌺⚽️🎨 Review: Cruel King by Rina Kent

Where do I even start with this book? Buckle up y'all its gonna be a wild ride. I just love Rina Kent men (I should seek help).

Astrid is quiet & to herself and honestly just trying to make it out of RES unscathed. When Astrid meets Levi unexpectedly, any plans that she had for laying low and flying under the radar her senior year of RES just went out the window. Levi is intent on making sure that doesn't happen. He's set is sights on Astrid and he's determined to break her. Now she's got RES's Cruel King's attention and he's not going anywhere.

Levi is possessive, broody, alpha, and everything we love in our fictional bully boyfriends. Levi might be the KING but Astrid definitely showed him that she's the QUEEN. Whatever Levi threw her way she gave it back tenfold. She is such a powerful FMC and we love her for that.

Astrid's story really got me in my feels, I deff cried a couple times. She struggled through so much. Her life was plagued by stress, trauma, death, and lots of family issues. If I could square up with their stupid stepmom I WOULD. Levi has also been through some shit. His father is dead, he lives with his Uncle who he hates, he's got reason to be as cruel as he is. Levi is a complex character in the best way. The way Astrid and Levi are connected is so INSANE. The twist is so good you won't even see it coming. Levi was HOT. H.O.T HOT. The spice was spicing as usual in Rina's masterpieces.

Beautiful start to set up the rest of the Royal Elite Series🥀.

ZANE ANGST // about how much zane struggled to accept the fact that he isn't human, but is in fact a robot and how everyone reacted to that. (no lloyd because when this all happened my man was still in his boarding school. and, and nya when she wasn't a ninja bc obviously she wasn't one yet when this happened!)

Zane had recently found out he was not human. he was a robot. safe to say, that was something that not many would be able to get used to quickly. he ended up unlocking his full potential after finding out this part of himself, but this didn't stop him from having trouble accepting things.

how had he gone so long just.. not knowing? he was so different from the other ninja, his "brothers". and now he knew why. he felt, out of place. even more now. he felt the way the other ninja looked at him. the way they no longer called him human. they weren't wrong, but the words stung. was he less of a ninja now? everyone told him it was cool, but he could tell that it made everyone, even master wu, weirded out.

for ages he shut himself away, not accepting the fact that this was him now. this wasn't going to change. he needed to think logically now, but he just couldn't. what would the public think now? he was a freak. he wasn't a real ninja.

when he went in public after figuring out the was a "Nindriod" (as jay called it) everyone looked at him weird. either they thought it was cool, creepy or something along those lines. he certainly didn't blame anyone for staring.

it was such a struggle to accept his new body. all of his fellow ninja supported him as much as they could, but there was still an empty void in his "heart" (or lack of). there always felt like something was missing in him, compared to the other ninja. and now it was more than ever. everyone assured him that he was no less of a ninja. but what if there was?

JAY POV :

honestly it was so weird to him. but, he wasn't any less of a ninja or his "brother". right? he knew how much zane was struggling so he tried to help!

he would crack jokes about zane unlocking his true potential first and being a robot, but also made sure to reassure him when he was training his new powers that he was still the ice ninja! he was the first ninja to unlock their true potential, thats some achievement!

KAI POV :

he didn't take the news well. he thought it was cool, but he was SO jealous that Zane unlocked his true potential before him. it was not fair at all.

he lashed out quite a bit, calling zane weird which he is not proud of. but he came around, and apologized. even though he's forever jealous that it wasn't him.

COLE POV :

SO supportive. he thought it was so cool zane was a robot and such an achievement for him to unlock his true potential. he was so reassuring that zane wasn't any less of a ninja now. even though he doesn't understand a thing about his fellow ninjas new discovery on himself.

he was comforting, even when zane didn't ask for it. a bit overbearing, with constant reassurance and he always offered to help zane train. whenever zane shut himself out, cole was the first person to go check up on him, and comfort him, get him active!

NYA POV :

she always knew that something was different about zane. her initial thoughts were nothing like him turning out to be a robot?! or ninja-robot, nindroid? whatever you call it.

she tried her best to comfort him and get him used to his new discovery, but it was hard when even she couldn't really accept it. there was times where she said the wrong things and upset him, and she always feels guilty for that. she reminds him every day how proud everyone is that he unlocked his true potential though.

👻 What is your wildest headcanon?

Wildest HC, well...I'm kinda mild on my hcs. One I go down a rabbit hole on is Tech understanding and writing algorithms. Since I'm a computer science major I can write with a slightly deeper understanding of the process and some of the struggles a programmer may experience.

🦈 Which character is the toughest to write?

For me, Echo and Crosshair I tend to struggle with when it comes to being a main focus character. For Crosshair, I want him to have more depth than snark and there are times where I struggle with this. In the case of Echo, I don't want him too angsty so it may be a matter of reading up on more fics for more details to grab onto.

💡How many WIPs do you currently have?

Way too many lol, but if I had to ballpark it I'd say 10 - 15 WIPs currently.

🎨 If someone were to make fanart of your work, what fic or scene would you hope to see?

First off, I would be thrilled if anyone decided my writing was worthy of fan art. I had one scene I really enjoyed writing which was actually a bit of a surprise for @photogirl894 in "Old Folk Blues" it was mostly a quiet scene with Kimber and Rina chatting but I could see that scene with shadows with the hinting of warmer shades of the setting sun creeping through the windows. It's a little oneshot I was proud of.

oooooh I've had an idea in my head for an s/e piece inspired by visuals from the blood sweat and tears mv for like 5 years but no matter how hard I throw myself at it I can never get it to look right so i've just been waiting until i manage to catch lightning in a bottle i guess :< (((I also found a few notes in an old "to draw" folder from like 2 years ago that include but are not limited to: jjk band au with guitarist brothers yuuji+sukuna/bassist megu/drummer nobara; gojo in crocs. ))))

HHHHH its the same crowd as usual i am so hides face in hands bc they intimidate me /pos :'))))) vacuumchan, ohprcr, gloomyhome, trickywagon, meru90 to name a few ANYWAY RUNNING HIDING

this is a tough one im such a hater and everything inconveniences me ,,, when the perfect csp brush costs money >:C,, when u cant find reference from this One Specific Angle >:C,, when u dont realize youve merged the wrong layer until you've been working for hours and all of a sudden your folders are out of order and its a mess >:C SPEAKING OF MERGING LAYERS hot take i think that they should invent a way to let u merge layer modes without converting them all to the same type. let me put my multiply with my glow dodge !!! cowards.

16. What’s the most daunting part of your process?

rendering :') so much of it is trusting the process and there are so many ugly phases that make u wonder if u were ever good at art to begin with

hdsj i mean im a fanartist so i think it goes without saying that I'm mainly inspired by the content I like ,, but i also am very inspired by fashion !!!! saw a guy walking the other day with a hoodie that said CASH FOR SOULS | COLD HARD CASH | CA$H4SOULZ.com and i had to take a picture of it like a creep bc tht + Sukuna ??? hello??? anyway yea ive got a pinterest board dedicated to insp-y clothes and a notes folder dedicated to jotting down cute outfits I see in public

18. Do you have any larger projects you’d like to pursue?

I've always wanted to do speedpaints ! but even more than that I want to do something aNYTHING with my ocverse but alas...time.....planning....plot.. so in the meantime they simply live in my head bouncing around like globs of wax in a lava lamp

22. When is your prime time to work on your art?

usually mid to late afternoon but it depends on the season because it gets so HOT in my room in the warm months which I dread >:( How it works is if I start in mid-late afternoon then I'm able to hit my stride and draw basically through the entire evening (also because of the aforementioned Heat I vastly prefer drawing in fall/winter because that means I don't have to evacuate my room at 4pm sdfhdgshd)

23. Do you listen to music or watch shows while you work? If so, what’s your favourite?

I have to have music or something on while I'm drawing or the fans in my cintiq will drive me insane . Sometimes i listen to music that matches/drastically contrasts the piece I'm working on but most of the time I can't be bothered and just throw on my youtube mix which consists embarassingly of mainly vocaloid and utau ,, though sometimes if a piece is kicking my ass and I need to just hunker down and get shit done then I'll put the entire discography of an artist I like on shuffle (some favs include 1D/waterparks/former vandal/harumaki gohan) and for some reason the Predictability activates intense productivity mode?? I cant explain it gdsj its like I have music on that I like but it's not jumping around between artists so I don't get too distracted or excited whenever the song changes
