Some schools are really serious about tennis. Enjoy these rather serious tenifacts, or Sanada will slap you!

Rikkai's tennis club meets every day from monday to saturday, and on every second sunday (only the 1st and 3rd sunday of the month are off).

On every 1st and 3rd saturday, they practice with the Rikkai high school tennis club. Every 4th saturday, with the university tennis club.

Sundays are for interschool practice matches. The last team they played against was Kakinoki JHS - because Akaya was late to the match, they replaced him with Urayama Shiita with a seaweed wig.

Today's tenifacts are from page 71 of the fanbook + some addition from volume 8 of the tenipuri manga kanzenban.

Name: Kagurazaka Eri Year: 2-B Physical Appearance: Platinum blonde hair (tied up in a crown braid), turquoise eyes. Things to Note: Captain, no-nonsense mindset, strict and intimidating but has occasional soft spots. Has a one-sided rivalry with Keiko.

Name: Ginoza Mikoto Year: 2-A Physical Appearance: Cherry brown hair with blunt bangs (Below shoulder/above waist length), dark red eyes, wears oval glasses. Things to Note: Vice-captain, part of the Disciplinary committee, a person of few words, more intimidating than Eri. Has (or rather, had) a complicated relationship with Yukimura in the past.

Name: Kise Yui Year: 2-C Physical Appearance: Dark chocolate brown hair with golden blonde ombre (Shoulder length, wavy, ties it in a low ponytail pulled over her shoulders), amber eyes Things to Note: Rikkai's Girls' Team's manager (co-manages with her twin Yukio), the headmaster's granddaughter (nepo-baby). Optimistic and a bit of a doormat but isn't an airhead as much as she presented herself as one.

Name: Otonashi Nozomi Year: 2-F (Held back a year) Physical Appearance: Black hair with purple streaks (bob-cut, wavy), purple eyes, wears a surgical black mask (even when playing tennis), tallest among the girls. Things to Note: Everyone at Rikkai knows and fears her (except for some teachers), despite her friendliness. Has a strong sense of justice, survivor's guilt of some sort and a past that she doesn't like talking about.

Name: Ayase Keiko Year: 2-C Physical Appearance: Silver hair (shoulder length wolfcut), hazel eyes. Has a beauty mark on the left side of her chin. Things to Note: Former Hyotei student & tennis team captain, transferred to Rikkai. Doesn't really see Eri as a rival as much as the other girl does. Is the cousin of a certain someone. Laidback, observant and calculative.

Name: Ibara Rinne Year: 1-A Physical Appearance: Black hair (hime-cut, waist-length, straight), gray eyes. Things to Note: A valedictorian who transferred from Hyotei to Rikkai. (Overly) Cautious, says very little words but compensates with her actions, a softie (really has no bad bones in her, no matter how bad someone treats her).

Name: Nozawa Yuuna Year: 1-D Physical Appearance: Light blonde hair with pink ombre, dark pink eyes. Things to Note: A Hyotei student who transferred to Rikkai. Mean and rude in every way possible, materialistic and full of pride. Rinne is her constant target for 'fun'.

Name: Inamura Kanae Year: 1-A Physical Appearance: Dirty blonde hair with blue ombre (tied up in low pigtails), icy blue eyes, wears oval glasses. Things to Note: Yuuna's lackey/'friend'. Another person who considered herself as Rinne's rival. Doesn't say a lot but knows a lot, sensitive (takes a lot of things personally) and sharp-tongued.

Name: Wada Ayumu Year: 1-D Physical Appearance: Orange hair (above shoulder length, tied up in twin braids with different hair bobbles every day), violet eyes. Things to Note: Akaya's childhood friend, neighbour and classmate since kindergarten (Their moms are friends). Loud, childish and has a lot of guts for someone that's the shortest among the girls.

Name: Sakuragi Hana Year: 1-D Physical Appearance: Soft pink hair (wavy, waist-length, wears a white bow hair clip), sky blue eyes. Things to Note: The transfer student from South Korea, half-Korean half-Japanese (her father is Japanese). Shy, acts a little awkward and is trying her best to fit in.

Name: Fueki Ichika Year: 1-D (Held back a year) Physical Appearance: Rust-coloured hair (below shoulder-length, tied up in a simple bun), dark forest green eyes Things to Note: Tamagawa’s ex-girlfriend, former gymnast ace. Distant, kinda gloomy and always keeps to herself/deep in thoughts.

Name: Ootani Shiori Age: 27 Physical Appearance: Chestnut brown hair (pixie cut), light brown eyes. Things to Note: 1-A's homeroom and History teacher. Rikkai alumni. Witty, snarky, intimidating and takes no nonsense. Teachers and students alike call her 'The Iron Lady'.

i finally understand why i want to learn japanese. the only active npot translator around these days is filo (and fellow rikkai trash) and i find her translation *impeccable*

then a month ago i found myself typing lines from RAW manga scans based on my kana knowledge, fed it to google translate, then shared MH my findings. i felt so cool and accomplished and subconsciously thought, "hey i want to do more of this"

On the 3rd year upperclassman (who often are shipped with ryoma) (all opinions are my own. I use Ryoma/Echizen ename wise interchangable because I prefer saying Ryoma. Sue me.):

As a traditionally/ historic het/OC shipper within the tenipuri fandom...I've had contradictory/conflicting opinions about OT4/5/6?? I don't even know who gets kicked out at what stage lol. (Note— the OC community back in the day WAS strong LOL. Never as large as the typical ships, but def a larger force than current)

I’d agree with the heartwarming aspect of the original post as during my most-recent read through this time of the manga I definitely saw it. Historically I didn’t and honestly, outside of the screen clips of that anime-canon only SanadaRyoma filler episode, I didn't see much there. I think this time, being both older (and the overall world viewing LGBTQ+ rights in a much different light), I've picked up on either more of the ships & potential basis and/or viewed characters I used to not-care for slightly differently. I used to not like neither Atobe nor Sanada (still quite eh on Atobe but much more favorable opinion on him; I quite like Sanada now. Surprisingly. Lol)

For the national tournament, the fact that Atobe used his personal helicopter to both 1) help Seigaku locate Ryoma & 2) decide to play him to help Ryoma jog his memories back is SUPER heartwarming and honestly speaks a lot about Atobe. He can be more than just rich prissy arrogant monkey king of Hyotei, and for things within his power/wealth that he believes is right he's willing to use this to bring forth those he wants to. Would it be to the point of "always rooting" for Ryoma? That...I'm not sure I've seen enough to that extent. They're still rivals by school and strong competitors against each other. Atobe has no stakes within the national tournament as this point, and I don't really see anyone (minus the Oshitari cousins, which is familial bickering on Osaka vs Tokyo ; Kansai vs Kanto) really playing out regional support for schools. Hyotei's fully out at this point, but Atobe feels that everyone should have a fighting chance to try to get the national title. I don't think he has any Tokyo needs to win over Kanagawa in him here.

Sanada...his heartwarming action I see to be of a much deeper extent than that of Atobe's. He's the vice-captain of Rikkai who is currently playing against Seigaku for that national title and Rikkai had already lost to this school earlier in Kanto Regional tournament and Ryoma handed Sanada's loss to him. To Rikkai, where to be Rikkai is to always win. His captain, Yukimura, had surgery the same day Rikkai lost for the first time in their three years and they were late to his surgery/ arrived later than than had wanted to. Yukimura, who was bedridden and couldn't bear his own weight, who fought tooth and nail and still was going to play Singles 1 against Ryoma. At this point, Sanada also knew that the singles 1 games also would impact if they win nationals or not, and yet he still goes with Atobe to go play with Ryoma, and shows him (part of/) FuRinKaZan/FuRinKaInZanRai to help Ryoma truly gain full recollection of his memories. Even with all this through, does Sanada truly always root for him? No, I don't believe so. I think it's the missing teammate/care about him as the whole that is missing here canonically.

Both Atobe & Sanada want to fight their opponents at the best strength they can at a given moment. They don't want to seize upon weaknesses brought by outside forces, but they'll still take advantage of anything that was foreknown.

Of the three, I only see Tezuka to truly always root for him, not just as his captain, but as a competitor and rival in tennis. (This continues into shinteni...which I have various opinions about. I also think shinteni wise, I don't know if I'd say Atobe & Sanada always rooted for him. I do think Tezuka silently may have/could potentially have). However, without the captain/teammate relationship, I don't think Tezuka would've always looked out for Echizen's interest at all. However, given that they always will have their captain/ teammate history and background, Tezuka understands Echizen and want's him to become the true tennis player that he can be and reach his full potential.

Now...for shits & giggles, lets throw in Fuji & Yukimura to round out high-level rooting thoughts on this.

Yukimura- short answer, no. I don't think Yukimura understands Ryoma and I don't think he always roots for Ryoma's success.

Fuji- This one is tough; I think I'm going to say no here as well though. I think Fuji & Yukimura character-wise have LOTS of similarities. I think the difference is I think Fuji understands a lot about Echizen, but it's more of a superficial understanding since the core of Fuji's belief and Ryoma's is so different. I do think however that Fuji may always be rooting for Ryoma. If not always rooting for, he always understands at least superficially why Ryoma does what he does. (This compare/contrast Tezuka and Fuji on Ryoma could honestly be its own post. Superficially here is meant as in Fuji can potentially list out the reasons and impact but put him to the standa and have him argue it and he'd falter. flashback to myself in intro to theology when I could point out reasons but at the core couldn't write persuasive arguments for various essay. god. such pain)

I'd argue that for both Fuji & Yukimura-- their "why" for tennis differs vastly than Ryoma (especially for the tenipuri-- verdict still out for shinteni. Fuji is getting there. Yukimura... let's talk post Tezuka/Yukimura match). Tezuka and Ryoma have a much similar "why" for tennis....Sanada and Atobe I feel like their "why" and level of intensity is more akin to each other.

Tezuka, Sanada and Atobe's understanding of Ryoma is so heartwarming. They get him and are always rooting for him.

Notebook and pencil board: A Rikkai University-brand notebook for classes. Key points are color-coded in three colors, and he always uses a pencil board

His calligraphy: “Always victorious and undefeatable,” “Clear and serene as a polished mirror and still water.” He writes during his breaks and as a hobby. He carries the first one with him since he vowed to be “always victorious and undefeatable,” and the other’s for his home. He’s given all of the members his calligraphy

His family stone: A stone that’s been passed down his family for generations since the Meiji Era. It’s used for training and he keeps it at the bottom of his shoulder bag. It weighs approximately 12kg
