what horrors have u encountered today?

Well I'm trying to maintain sweetie status today and if I complain about the actual interpersonal issue I have dealt with I am at risk of pissing myself off dear anon so instead here are some dumb things from my day:

A giant beetle got inside and I tried to catch him and put him back outside because he was so big and lost and I accidentally got scared and fumbled the cup and paper and killed him horrifically in the process. Semi decapitation I had to smush him the rest of the way on purpose to put him fully out of his misery. It would have been better if I had killed him quickly and purposefully from the jump instead of trying to be a steward to nature, he spent his last moments confused, jostled around, and fatally wounded. Do bugs feel pain?

I had to go get gas and it was so busy I waited forever, decided to move and wait behind another car, and that guy went inside forever before coming out with 3 bags of I guess snacks and drinks idfk. I debated moving again but felt like at this point I should just accept my lot. People that don't move their car and go park in a regular spot after pumping when they are going to apparently grocery shop at the fucking gas station should be strung up by their toes to think about their behavior.

I finally opened the bottle of my favorite wine I had been waiting to have one of these weekends and used my cool new corkscrew (it has bat wings my old one had flaking paint and was crazy old) and I broke the cork halfway in the neck of the bottle. I had to push it in and then use a strainer to transfer it into a carafe so I didn't have dissolving crumbled cork in my wine. Except now it won't last as long 😔

The boy sits down beside you with a creaking of old wood. He grimaces slightly, as if doubting that the steps to the shack will support both of you at once, but then shrugs and settles into the bowing plank.

“Saw your piggy friends pack up and leave. Ditched you, did they?”

PAIN THRESHOLD — His words cause an unexpectedly sharp pang, like a blade shoved between your ribs.

COMPOSURE — You try to breathe through the pain and the creeping dread. Your lungs feel shrunken and certainly not luminous.

“It’s none of your business. Fuck off.”

“They left me to die. I���m going to die here.”

“Maybe they’ll send someone for me. Maybe they’ll come back.”

CUNO — He laughs, but it’s not his usual cackle. It’s quiet and cruel. “You stupid, or something? Nobody comes *back* to this shithole. Fucking pit. You either get out or you die here. They’re gone.”

EMPATHY — Gone like his mother, his father, his only friend in all the world. Gone like his one chance to get out.

INLAND EMPIRE — You failed him, just like you fail everyone.

“You don’t know that. You don’t know anything.”

“I’m sorry. I’m such a piece of shit. Now we’re both gonna die here.”

“Kim might come back.”

CUNO — That gives the boy pause. “…Maybe,” he admits reluctantly. “If he doesn’t wimp out and die.”

PAIN THRESHOLD — Another pang, cold and sharp. It doesn’t bear thinking about.

ESPIRIT DE CORPS — Somewhere else in Revachol, somewhere that feels so very far away, the lieutenant is standing on a fire escape, fingers playing at a pack of cigarettes in his pocket. Thinking about another cigarette on another balcony with another person.

You do not know where he is. You do not even know if this image of him is the truth or just a fervent wish. You may never know, now.

FISHING VILLAGE — The sea is a soft roar in your ears, waves brushing the shore like your hand trailing through a dead man’s hair. It’s getting dark now. Dark and cold.

“I’m tired. Goodnight, Cuno.” [Leave]

“Why are you here?”

CUNO — “The Cuno goes wherever the fuck he wants, pig. Cuno’s town. Cuno’s village.”

LOGIC — He probably came to see if he could figure out a way to make you and the other officers take him with you. Then he saw them leave you behind and realized that there was no hope for either of you.

EMPATHY — And then he got scared. He’s afraid you’ll die and leave him all alone in the world.

CUNO — He wipes his nose on his sleeve, bundling his jacket more tightly around himself. “Cuno oughta trash your dumb shack while I’m at it.”

PERCEPTION — He said “I.” He’s still off the speed.

EMPATHY — He’s thinking about a lot of things. He feels small and sad.

INLAND EMPIRE — Like something that no one ever comes back to. Like Martinaise. Like you.

“You can have the shack when I’m gone. I won’t last long.”

“Fine, trash it. Kick me while I’m down. That’s all anybody does, anyway.”

“Please don’t trash it. It’s not mine, it’s Isobel’s.”

CUNO — “Only joking, baconman. The Cuno’s an honorable guy, you know? Not gonna pick on the elderly.” He glances at you briefly, and then away. “Or Isobel.”

DRAMA — Was that… a joke, sire? Did he mean to make you laugh?

“Fuck off, Cuno.”

“Har har.”

CUNO — Another brief glance out of the corner of his eye, and then away. His hands are restless in his lap, wringing themselves, tapping tattoos against each other. He’s rocking back and forth just a little.

ELECTROCHEMISTRY — On top of everything, the withdrawal is starting to hit him hard. You know the signs all too well.

COMPOSURE — He’s trying not to let on just how scared and alone he feels without Cunoesse. The world feels big and silent to him now.

VOLITION — He needs you. And you need him.

CUNO — “So…” He clears his throat, wrapping his arms around himself and shivering as a cold wind sweeps past. “What are you gonna do? Even the pigs don’t want you. Rotten meat.”

“I’m gonna die. They know I will and they left me anyway.”

“Fuck them. I’ll tear shit up, then. Burn this town to the ground. Fuck everything.”

“I’m gonna get so drunk I forget that I ever cared about them.”

“I’m gonna keep on solving cases without their help, just like I solved this one. I don’t fucking need them.”

“I’m gonna find change for the pay phone and beg them to come back for me.”

“I’m staying right here in Martinaise. I’m not going anywhere, Cuno.”

CUNO — He wipes his nose again, but says nothing. His expression is difficult to read.

EMPATHY — He doesn’t know what to say to that. Doesn’t know if he believes you, either. But he’d like to.

FISHING VILLAGE — Seagulls call to one another in the distance. The ocean continues its gentle ministrations. The sun sets and the day ends. Still, life goes on.

on a more hater note, regardless, that exact range of character seems irreparably unable to really escape the fantasy theyre created. for? around? whatever.

(now leaving shuzo azide for the moment) like if they refuse the guy's advances, for 'petty'/personality/logical/legal reasons, theyre still playing into the coercion rape/adjacent part of what the female characters do generally but obvs also the minors aspect. but if on the contrary or in conjunction with the former, if theyre portrayed as more sensible than they seem as the plot progresses (which on principle isnt necessarily wrong, yk theyre still young and human) then that also plays as an extension of the explicit coercion kind or the one interested on vulnerability from the get-go..

no because i read the first like, four chapters of the outlaws webtoon and was immediately like "haha, no?? why is jay acting like bruce never thought of him as his son? why does this author have it out for b so bad?". i'm glad to know i made the right choice if it just got worse

I could understand the ‘wow, I guess I never really found a family with Bruce if this is just always how it’s going to be with him’ mindset, especially if Bruce was being particularly cruel with him.

He can be cruel. Exploring Jason’s thought process, how he resolves this in his mind and comes to forgive Bruce again and again is something they could have at least touched on. Instead, they not only did nothing new to move the disagreement forward, but they also muddied it further, in a bad way. If they want to complicate (or worse, attempt to resolve) Jason and Bruce’s decades long conflict, that should be a separate comic entirely.

They could have just had Jason cut Bruce off completely (even if temporarily) with the set-up they had, but they did nothing with it (even though they could have avoided the mess they made if they took this route).

Bruce again does something unforgivable to Jason (but now his friends get fucked over too), only for there to be a half-assed make-up conversation that didn’t really address the real issue, and then there’s no further mention of it. Bruce put the outlaws in a simulation for months without their knowledge, and the conversation Bruce had with Jason later wasn’t even about this. Screw Artemis and Bizarro, I guess. They’re expendable because the core conflict is actually about Jason and Bruce.

I wouldn’t say the bad Brucie moments are too ooc based on how he is in canon. The abuse, and him being big on mass surveillance/never trusting anyone while being the one to repeatedly betray other people’s trust. It’s just all the other characters being so tolerant/accepting of his actions is kinda funny, it’s almost like they’re NPCs lol. But also again why are Bruce’s trust issues which cause a strain on his relationship with Jason a main theme in the outlaws book lmao

Ultimately what this webtoon did was take every irritating plot from Jason’s canon appearances, amplified them tenfold, and mixed in even more unresolved plotholes and horrible mis characterizations.

gazprice fan here. found your blog first but will be reading from your ao3 soon. considering what I've read so far, I want to save the gazprice for the end to save the best for last but tbh your work is already enjoyable so I'm not sure what would count as "the best" here.

also imo it's genuinely sad that there are three times as many konig x reader fics than gazprice fics on ao3 when there are half as many fics with konig compared to gaz since konig is not a canon character (yes I am ignoring the difference in the number of fics with gaz as a character compared to the other 141 members). regardless, thank you for your efforts for gazprice o7
