I don't think I will check out the rest of the series from the library. I am okay letting The Killing Joke stay in the past.

If you're a fan of The Batman (2022) I highly suggest this comic
The Riddler year one
First of all, the cover is gorgeous and the art is phenomenal. Stevan Subic's dark yet semi-realistic style really works well with Edward's (The Riddler) state of mind.
But it's also filled with pages from Edward's journal (?) And we can see his descent into his ideologies. At first its somewhat clean and readable but it gets more and more jumbled. There are even binary codes and I had fun translating them (most of them are just "the Riddler" and question marks, at least from what I got).
And if you're obsessed with Batman like I am, he is too! Here are my favorite pages
"Your beam lights the sky and I look out the window. Waiting. Silently calling out to you. Just think what we could do together! It's getting harder to live with this. To hold this alone. In my darkest hours I need you, and your light is there for me. "
And (months?) later, when anticipating meeting him
"I wish I could tell you that I will turn myself in. I wish I could tell you not to worry, it's all part of the plan. That you and I will be safe aboard the ark. But I can't. This (the plan!) Is the only way for me to find you. (Believe me, I have tried.)
This is the only way for us to meet. It will all be worth it in the end.
Together we might call it a beginning. "
It reminds me of the Joker's obsession with Batman in The Batman Who Laughs (or anytime really), but in a more "we could be a great team" with a dash of parasocial relationship.
All of that to say, if you see this comic, grab it!
I got the book 5 out of 6 and it's not confusing at all, I'll be looking for the other ones.

slightly too tall but looks ok? 🤔🤔⭐ -like normaly i would say this is too tall, but its not that bad which is why its in hmmm territory. at least this is ok territory
end tip is terrible 🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑 -its thin, why is it pointy!! it might be used to be a good weapon but give up on walking with this right now couse nopeee you cannot even lean on this! never mind walk!
handle looks amazing!! ⭐⭐⭐ -its stylish, its comftrble, i will say that the tip of the quastion mark looks slightly too big, but its just so nice, and looks like its good support!
design is nice! basic but good ⭐ -what can i say i like the gold! very classic kind of riddle stick for sure. the handle just works and apart from the terrfible tip that makes this not useful, its good
does it make sense character wise to have this spasific mobility aid: yep! ⭐ -once again the business man vibe is exeptinal, also i truly think this works with this design of riddler! all serios but still flashy enough to be menacing!

The Batman, 2022
Matt Reeves has masterfully crafted a proper crime thriller and just like Zodiac, Prisoners and Se7en, I immediately wanted to re-watch this one. Refreshing to see satisfying and self-contained storytelling in the DC universe. Robert Pattinson is THE CHOSEN ONE. Paul Dano understood his assignment.

#steam in review#kind of love how we've got the arkham trilogy at the top but then arkham origins gets beaten by ebf#if steam in review counted days a bit later ftl would've shot up on some of these stats#imagine arkham and ebf crossover. i kind of need it now#i've already drawn anna with poison ivy#could think about comparing batman's obsession with protecting gotham and pushing his allies away with lance's war crimes#out of fear of the monolith (but he also is a shitty person)#but also it would be really funny since arkham is gritty and 'realistic' but then we have these cartoon characters#also imagine batman doing a stealthy predator mission then nolegs uses his limit break and summons godcat#matt and nolegs are criminals. imagine if nolegs teamed up with catwoman. imagine matt accidentally becoming a rogue#imagine these goofy goobers in gotham city#imagine matt endlessly complaining about all the puzzles riddler leaves while natalie tries to solve them

Just finally watched Battinson and while I'm troubled with replacing the Kane family's position in Gotham's history with the Waynes for some reason, I am interested in the choice to give Martha history with Arkham. I'm not exactly known for being a fan of Flashpoint or anything, but trying to make it more realistic and logically follow is hardly something I can argue with.
More thoughts follow.
I did like the way Riddler tapped into the zeitgeist, with his angle, his illness, his powerful parasociality, his paranoid anarchist fringe streamer audience. I REALLY liked how Edward, Bruce, and Selina found their paths shaped by the core identity trait of being an orphan. Good contrast. I did expect a little bit more for E, thought it was aiming to imply his father was the reporter, then I thought it was heading towards Hush and half-brother, but I also can appreciate how it is ulltimately more unsettling for him to be thoroughly unmoored in backstory. That emphasizes, again, his parasociality, used I believe to effectively contrast both Bruce's isolation and Selina's constant involvement in the thick and dirty of Gotham.
Watching with @pastelbelmont, we discussed how this was an interesting way to set up the birth of Bruce Wayne as an alias. All of the themes of renewal, masks, identity, the use of the money for civic good, Bruce's present alienation from the city, Thomas's goals and influence, hope and the future and direct action in affecting change— We saw the billionaire Bruce, but not the playboy Bruce or philanthropist Bruce. (You know, the important part of the character playboy Bruce that literally only West and Clooney have been able to convey, much as I liked Batfleck.)
I liked Bruce helping with the victims of the flooding. I liked the riddles (very important). I liked B's detective equipment, for what we saw of it. Set dressing for Edward's apartment was great. Costumes were good. Bat sound effects were great, I've had one hanging around my window this past week so I know. I liked the pun with Réal's name. I wish the Officer Martinéz guy had been Reneé Montoya instead though. I liked Bruce struggling to reconcile his stunted and childish views on good and evil through his father and the idea of vengeance, and how that leads him to resolve the no-kill rule.
In my onion, R.Battz The Batman does manage to bring something new to the table, despite in many ways remaining as gritty as its predecessors. It's worth seeing for people who are attached not just to the idea of Batman, but to the comics specifically and Gotham City itself. The ideal audience would be someone who can appreciate the intellectual and emotional aspects, it's not really just a flashing lights action blockbuster. I can see how Reeves set out to create the Batman film he would want to see, because I'm impressed by the feeling of authenticity and comprehension in the story and direction. I don't agree with every decision, but that didn't greatly detract from the experience for me. I don't think it requires much knowledge of the comics, but that certainly makes the experience richer. I particularly appreciate that this is a great take on Year Two. Because the original Year One run has. Some problems.
I really liked the writing and acting in this take on Riddler, which leaves me tentatively joyful for the Joker sequel hook. It's so exhausting seeing everyone need to involve The Joker because I actually don't think he's one of the more meaningful rogues in the gallery, writing-wise. This may be the first film Joker I think actually is worth seeing as a take on the character. Not to say that Nicholson and Ledger were ill-suited as actors, just that the writing was really wildly one half or the other. This might toe the line appropriately between ridiculous and menacing in a well-integrated way. I adore the intro of him in Arkham, because that means we might be seeing a really interesting take on Dr Quinzel on the horizon. Also hoping we see Barbara introduced instead of Dick, since Jim was a major player in this film. Since this film began on Halloween, we also joked about Calendar Man making an appearance. Cas was especially excited for the setup of Oswald becoming a major player. This film took what worked about Nolan and Hathaway's Catwoman and kept it going. Obviously Zoë Kravitz is a return to form with lightskinned biracial Selina, as well as being hot and talented. Totally on-point as my headcanon Selina in as many ways as I can think of. I think her casting was actually better than her partner's, bless him, because he's just a little too pretty to be Bruce. Like he's got a more delicate jawline and somewhat twinkier body than anyone's version of Bruce, which is why it was so striking that he barely played Brucie since he'd be better suited imo. Just not solid or hunky enough. It really interests me as a choice. Because his acting is, again, being kind of wasted, on Bruce-as-Batman, I know he can do so much more even if he probably really wanted the role. It's also funny to have yet another British actor as Batman. Really liked the suit, again fwiw.
Every time Bruce pontificated in narration about Hope, I couldn't help sneering a bit and thinking of Snyder. Unavoidable really. Oops.

So I just watched The Batman (2022)
I loved it, it was hilarious, great pacing, the sound design was AMAZING (which makes sense). Now, onto the rant. Gordon was MVP in this whole thing, he is Bestest Boy, he is just doing his best(tm) and I love him. Batman/Bruce Wayne is a sad emo boy and he’s so funny, he looks like a drowned rat half the time it’s hilarious, love him, especially when he’s there as Bruce Wayne. He’s got like a million brain cells, and simply elects not to use them, and we should respect that. Alfred is a Good Boy but he doesn’t get Bestest because he’s a Thomas Wayne apologist. He still doesn’t deserve this shit, like when he gets accused as soon as he gets out of a fucking coma (settle down emo boy). Catwoman is an icon, she is the moment, she is also a disaster(tm) but she hides it better.
Selina has my heart and the little cat ears on the mask were adorable, she’s such a disaster, I love her so much. She skywalkered her way right through the movie and I was rooting for Falcone to die, but I’m glad she didn’t have to dirty her hands. I was cackling every time she dissed “privileged white boys” in Batman’s face. I love identity shenanigans.
Now for this part, this is a bit more delicate because I do not like the riddler (please for my sake skip the rest if this will evoke rage in you). Tumblr people, know that i am small and scared before you come for me. I think he’s a great character, I like how smart they made him and all, but I kinda hate the guy as a person. Which, hear me out, makes sense, since he’s evil, and not in any ways I like. He’s very similar to an incel, and that kind of people both INFURIATES me and really creeps me out irl, so he just makes me deeply uncomfortable and I wish I was strong enough that I knew I could punch him if I met him, but sadly as I’ve said before I am small and scared. Also, those poor rats he put in an overcrowded cage did not deserve this and that bat stuck in the other cage like that was even worse. Also, his grand plan was fucking awful and not evil in a fun way, he didn’t even have a theme! The goal was just kill as many people as you can! I could sorta get the ‘eat the rich’ message he was going for, but then in the end he just goes for trying to destroy the whole city. That’s weak and rude. I liked the riddles though, they were fun. I’m shit at them so I was really impressed Batman figured them out. In sum, the Riddler is too much of a creep for me to like, though that last video blog he made was hilarious.
Hopefully the stans don’t find me if i tag anti-riddler. Don’t murder me online, I will cry and I will get snot on you.

height is pretty good! weirdly enough! ⭐⭐ - it looks a little too tall in the photo but it also looks like the hands in this art style are a little short so this works
end tip meh 🤔🤔 -its like, thiner then the reguler cane lengh, so like, could unstabalize him easily
poor guy having to use this handle 🛑🛑🛑 -round, painfull, its clear he is using this cane for style, so its better then nothing, but the round handle is so uncomftrble to lean on. ouchy riddler ouchy ouch. no clear space to grip it right and having the extra problem of having to grip it tightly to hold on to it
design is ok i guess 🤔 -like ok, he is a fancy man ill give him that, so i get the nice and sleek design, but come on Riddler, have a propper riddle stick! not even one question mark? i can't even count them?
actually walking with it: walks pretty good!! ⭐⭐⭐ -even for a fancy ass cane that is just for show and to use againstr batman in pulling out weird traps, he walks with it correctly! mirroing his leg perfectly
does it make sense character wise to have this spasific mobility aid: yep! ⭐ -the history of the riddlerstick is an interesting one for sure, but for this riddler it makes sense! it adds to his weird business man vibe in the time he went for a toy company. in general, he uses it to show his offical seriosness and i like it!

detective comics #662 (1993)
robin actually gets to do stuff, huntress joins the party, and batman has a pretty great fight with firefly that further illustrates what dire straits he's in. another pretty good but not great issue in an arc that really is greater than the sum of its parts.

#I was looking for a Riddler popmart and then this happened to me instead#genuinley need the riddler one but all of the eBay listings look dodgy#(this phantom one is from a UK seller with extremely positive reviews - the others popmart sellers are all abroad and are using stock image#only - giving aliexpress vibes so I’m not sure whether they’re legit or not)
