The 70's did mold many musical types into different shapes and some of them eventually evolved into something distinct later on in the decade. I mean, funk had some of the best eras then, but the genre also paved the way for disco. To be honest, many musicians in the former styles ended up playing in the latter, though that didn't feel like pandering. No, they achieved the natural development of their idioms with Kool & The Gang being one such case. I mean, listen to their early 70's records. While you can trace the crumbs to their later dancefloor anthems, this is funk at one of the greatest times. The groove is so strong as you can hear on the link and one does notice they asked themselves – how to make this even groovier?

In acting class, we learned about Stainislavski’s Theory, and a big part of that is Objective. So I took my RtC Pokemon AU and analyized it for Objective!
also, feeling obligated to tag @margo-mania, the kool moot who is helping develop this goofy au!
Stainislavski’s Theory as used in my stupid RtC AU
“Objective”
Group objective: To find, study, and befriend (and maybe fight) the mythical Pokémon Deoxys
Singular Objectives:
Ricky: Wants to study the Pokémon that come from a land beyond our own. Spends hours staring up at the sky, looking for something, anything, that proves other life exists. Once he catches wind of Deoxys’s landing, he knows he’s found his evidence
Noel: Wants nothing more than to draw and write about the beauty and magic of Legendary and Mythical Pokémon. He tags along with Ricky because he’s starting to get lonely when it’s just him traveling alone with Absol.
Ocean: Your stereotypical “wants to be the very best” trainer. She gets caught up with Noel and Ricky after her Vaporeon accidentally attacks them. She has been recently defeated at a Gym, and once the boys tell her about their quest to find Deoxys (Quest for the Other Worlds, as Noel calls it in his journal) she tags along in hopes that defeating Deoxys will make her strong enough to become the Champion.
Constance: She’s lived her entire life cooking at her family’s inn. She loves her family and her home region, but she also longs for adventure. While they’re staying at the Inn, Ricky lets her look through his notes on space Pokémon. She is intrigued, and in the night, knocks on the group’s door. The four of them then run off into the night.
Mischa: A real man of mystery. His objective is entirely unclear. All the group knows is that he’s from a land far away and he’s been training with his Zoroark. It’s later revealed that he used to be a recruit of Team Plasma and feels really bad for it, so he’s distant. It doesn’t help that he and Noel are falling in love throughout this entire story because I am a sucker for Nischa. (Yes the others tease them the entire time)
Penny: Oh, dear sweet Penny…she’s on the run from the cops the entire time. She’s an ex Team Magma member who never quite abandoned her team. She’s mostly with Team Cyclone right now because they’re protecting her from law enforcement!

Hiram Bullock – Way Kool
On the follow-up to his Atlantic debut, guitarist and producer Hiram Bullock pulled out all the stops and dove wholeheartedly onto the “funk” side of jazz-funk and left out the jazz. No, that’s not a bad thing. If anything, Way Kool feels a lot more like a funky rock record than anything else. With a handpicked cast of studio greats, Bullock set out to make a party record and he did it ... (Thom Jurek/AllMusic).
Bass – Steve Logan Drums – Steve Wolf Keyboards – Dave Delhomme , Ricky Peterson Percussion – Don Alias Guitar – Hiram Bullock

Fez's Tentative List of Favorite Bands/Artists...
1. Prince
2. Michael Jackson
3. Queen
4. Village People
5. Stevie Wonder
6. Milli Vanilli (yes, even after they're outed as frauds)
7. Elton John
8. David Bowie
9. Wham!/George Michael
10. Boyz II Men
11. Bob Marley
12. A Flock of Seagulls/a bunch of gimmicky 80s stuff
13. Ricky Martin/the Macarena/a bunch of gimmicky 90s stuff
14. Enrique Iglesias
15. Whitney Houston
16. The Police
17. KC and the Sunshine Band (and everyone makes fun of him)
18. Kool and the Gang
19. Earth, Wind, and Fire (Eric listens when no one is looking)
20. Gloria Estefan/Miami Sound Machine
21. The Commodores (Eric likes the song "Easy")
Note: From all the inklings of him liking disco/R&B (such as specifically stating he likes Stevie Wonder), I'm like ninety percent sure that he only likes most of the rock stuff the rest like to fit in (or, like the hard rock stuff for Eric, it's just a phase). The only rock I see him actively enjoying is Queen (he really likes Freddie Mercury; it's complicated), David Bowie, and The Police.

I'm submitting this for an actual school assignment
This is Ricky, he got turned into a vampire by a grindr hookup with a suspiciously 80s vibe and now works nights at McDonalds and subsists on cherry kool aid and iron supplements. He is a pathetic man and I get to draw him in Outfits and get marked for it in school. Hell yeah

Quotes that are jarring if you read them in the voice of Wonka from "Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory"
Ken Kesey, The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test: "I smoked pot, drank beer, and stayed out until 3 in the morning."
Dave Eggers, What Is the What: "Martha, my dear Martha, please don't slurp that soup. It is ruining your wig."
Mark Twain, Huckleberry Finn: "I found out I am an Existential Determinist, which means that I am never wrong."
From a lecture on Mark Twain and Huckleberry Finn by Ricki London, someone who apparently really does talk like that

Ronald Nathan Bell (November 1, 1951 – September 9, 2020) known as Khalis Bayyan, was a composer, singer, songwriter, arranger, producer, and co-founding member of Kool & the Gang.
His father would often bring home his jazz friends’ recordings. It was during those years on the road that his father became friends with Miles Davis and a roommate to Thelonious Monk.
“It was those albums that my dad brought home that drew me to jazz,” says Khalis. “As I child, I was influenced by Miles Davis, John Coltrane, and Cannonball Adderley. I taught myself how to play the saxophone by copying records by Lee Morgan, Art Blakey, and Wayne Shorter.”
The family moved to Jersey City in 1960. In 1964, he and his brother, Robert “Kool” Bell, joined neighborhood friends Spike Mickens, Dennis Thomas, Ricky Westfield, George Brown, and Charles Smith to create a distinctive musical blend of jazz, soul, and funk. At first, calling themselves “The Jazziacs”, the band went through various name changes - the New Dimensions, The Soul Town Band, and Kool & the Flames before settling on Kool & the Gang launched in 1969.
He converted to Islam in 1972, joining The Nation of Islam. He was given the name Khalis Bayyan by Imam Warith Deen Mohammed. He was married to Tia Sinclair Bell and had 10 children. His son, Rachid, released his debut album in 1998, and achieved a top 40 hit on the Dance Club Songs chart with his debut single, “Pride”. #africanhistory365 #africanexcellence

In a career that has lasted over fifty years, Kool & the Gang have been essential innovators in the sound of funk, soul, disco, and R&B, creating rock & roll’s most danceable anthems.
Kool & the Gang is an American R&B, soul, and funk group formed in Jersey City, New Jersey in 1964. Its founding members include brothers Robert "Kool" Bell and Ronald Bellaka "Khalis Bayyan", Dennis "Dee Tee" Thomas, Robert "Spike" Mickens, Charles Smith, George Brown, Sir Earl Toon, Woodrow "Woody" Sparrow, and Ricky Westfield. They have undergone numerous changes in personnel and have explored many musical styles throughout their history, including jazz, rhythm and blues, soul, funk, disco, rock, and pop music. The group changed their name several times. Settling on Kool & the Gang, the group signed to De-Lite Records and released their debut album, Kool and the Gang (1969).
Kool & the Gang are one of the grooviest and most sampled bands of all time, with a recognizable sound that resonates across generations and has brought joy to millions of fans around the globe.
Kool & the Gang took their funky groove all the way to the top with a mix of pop songwriting, fantastic vocals, and a killer horn section. Formed in Jersey City, New Jersey, in 1964, brothers Robert “Kool” and Ronald Bell got their start in clubs, mastering a repertoire of jazz standards and Motown covers. In 1969, they signed to newly formed De-Lite Records and released the up-tempo instrumental “Kool & the Gang.” They subsequently released two live albums showcasing their ability to produce brilliantly crafted songs and blistering jams over an infectious beat. Their big break came in 1973 with the album Wild and Peaceful, which leaned deep into funky grooves, horn arrangements, and chanted vocals on the songs “Funky Stuff,” “Jungle Boogie,” and “Hollywood Swinging” – three instant dance floor classics. They slid easily into the growing disco scene, with their “Open Sesame” featured on the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack.
In the 1980s, Kool & the Gang added lead vocalist James “J.T.” Taylor and released two massive hits, the bumping “Ladies Night” and the smooth “Too Hot.” With this, they accomplished something rare in the music industry – maintaining the fans who loved their funky roots, while reaching an entirely new audience tuned into their growing pop sensibilities. In 1980, they blew the roof off with the international hit “Celebration” and produced nineteen charting singles during the decade.
Kool & the Gang’s impact cannot be understated – from the throwback grooves of Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars to the inclusion of the group’s songs in almost every party playlist. Countless samples of their music laid the foundation for some of hip-hop’s biggest hits by artists including Eric B. & Rakim, Tupac, Lil’ Kim, and JAY-Z.
