Another updateeeeeee

I tweaked Brandi Broke and her sons: Dustin, Beau, and surprise baby boy you get when you load their household for the first time in the Sims 2 (I always named him Ricky).

I think I'm also going to upload their pink trailer home for you guys as well, that way you can just download everything and go right into game!

My goal for Dustin was to make him look a little awkward: I wanted an Axe body spray and Monster Energy for breakfast kind of vibe, so I hope that was achieved. He is not using face wash, he is cranky and smokes weed in the bathroom lmao. As a tween playing TS2, I always thought Skip and Dustin looked a lot alike, and I wanted that likeness to read.

On the other hand, I wanted Beau to look like a perfect mix of Brandi and Skip (Beau was always my favorite, and I'm a chronic teen Dustin Broke hater I'm sorry lmao). I wanted there to be an even balance of whimsy, gentleness, and melancholy conveyed with Beau. Ricky has a dirty and haphazard look because I think he would be quite the daredevil. In TS2 he is the only child that favors Brandi the most (having her black hair) while having Skip's green eyes. I wanted both of the younger boys to look like they're wearing hand-me-downs that don't fit quite right (not pictured but Beau's shorts are too short, and Ricky's shirt is quite loose and hanging off of his thermal undershirt that matches Beau's socks which I imagine came in a set, but the shirt is too small for Beau now). I also wanted all the boys to have haircuts that look like Brandi is the one cutting their hair.

For Brandi I just opted to make minor tweaks to make her look more unique - the biggest change is the droopier doe-esque eyes, which I think suited her super well, and I updated her hair. Idk what it is about her but I just think she's sooooo pretty.

oooo RTC hcs!! here's a few that popped into my brain that i've used in writing before and/or brainstormed for this:

Noel submits french songs as suggestions for the choir "to feel closer to his culture"

Mischa learnt sign language for Ricky, he knows what it feels like to be on the outside always looking in (iykyk) and doesn't want Ricky to feel alone like he has

Speaking of Ricky, he doodles. A LOT. The back of all his test papers have drawings of Zolar.

undecided but I kinda love the idea of Ocean being aspec somehow? like, she doesn't need romance or sex to be complete, she's a badass future president and has a friend in constance and that's enough?

Constance is a dreamer, she gets caught in her fantasies and writes stories in her mind during class / choir, the others find it endearing as heck

Penny has stickers EVERYWHERE. Her locker, her sketchbooks, her choir books. Her drink bottle. She even has a little doll attached to her backpack "for safekeeping and to take on adventures". Everyone admires how much she knows herself.

Do portwell/EJ stans not realize that Gina didn’t get together with Ricky until AN ENTIRE MONTH passed after she broke up with EJ? And pws entire relationship only lasted for around 2 months?? How long was Gina supposed to wait before it was acceptable by your standards to get in a new relationship?

I swear the way some of you fans treat and talk about Gina like she was the problem in that relationship (she in actuality she was the one putting in the most effort to FIX that failing thing more that Elton John ever did) is so gross.

Gina was one of the most supportive girlfriends and constantly forgave and encouraged EJ all throughout season 3. I will gladly name off every instance if you want me to. And she only lost her patience after he lied, hid the truth from her and constantly broke his promises to her. And no, before anyone says anything, EJ WAS NOT WORKING HARD JUST FOR GINAS SAKE! IT WAS FOR HIS OWN TO PROVE TO HIMSELF AND HIS DAD THAT HE WAS CAPABLE OF MAKING A NAME FOR HIMSELF! EJ in the show and Matt Cornett in interviews stated as such! It’s why since the beginning of the season EJ was so stressed - he wasn’t prioritizing his relationship with Gina before he got the letter from his dad so you can’t blame his actions solely on trying to save in relationship and stay in salt lake.

Also just so people in this fandom know because some of you seem to really not: PEOPLE ARE ALLOWED TO BREAK UP WITH THEIR SIGNIFICANT OTHER FOR ANY REASON! It doesn’t matter what EJ did in the past, Gina wasn’t happy in the direction their relationship was heading and decided to end it early to spare both of them further pain and she isn’t the bad guy for it.

Meanwhile, Penny is dead sprinting into the water

A moment later, she’s screaming because here comes Mischa, and he nearly jumps right onto her

Constance is still on the bay going, “sunscreen!! sunscreen, everyone!!!”

Ocean out here with the rash guard again!

Noel prefers the river over the beach

It’s a lot more relaxing

Nice setting to write some poetry

Ricky likes to sit in the shallows and make dams out of rocks

Mischa and Penny want to go explore the riverside, so they take Ocean with them to “supervise”

Poor Ocean is having to clamber up all these rocks that these two INSIST on climbing up

She doesn’t have much upper body strength

Or any body strength

Meanwhile, Noel is sunbathing and enjoying the silence that isn’t broken by the sound of the hooligans (Penny and Mischa) romping around, Constance is reading peacefully in the shallows, and Ricky’s dam is slowly but surely growing

Penny brought THIS

She and Mischa tried to ride it down the river together

But their added weight caused it to sink

They have to fuckin scoot across the riverbed to even move

And the other choir members are just gawking from the bay

The kids also decide to go tubing while they’re at the river!

That means they have to hike upstream, and Rocky insists he can just stay behind, but like hell they’re leaving him out

So Penny and Mischa take turns pulling him in a tube through the water

Ricky is traveling in style 😌

Walking upstream is a pain in the ass, but SOMEHOW Mischa and Penny are undeterred

Noel and Ocean, on the other hand, consider stopping short because this is EXHAUSTING

FINALLY, they find a good spot, hop in the tubes they’ve been having to lug with them, and begin the ride down

It’s so peaceful…

Penny: i love peeing as hard as i can, makes me feel like a pressure washer

Noel: i know too much about you

In the deeper part of the river, there’s this rock sticking out of the water that is the BEST jumping spot

Noel climbs up there just to take in all the scenery and has no intention of jumping, but Penny looks him up and down once before shoving him off the edge

His scream is quickly interrupted by the loud SMACK as he hits the water

He was LEERING up at Penny from beneath his flattened hair all over his face

He looks like a wet cat

Constance jumps off, and then Mischa jumps off almost immediately after because sometimes he doesn’t think, and he doesn’t realize what he’s done until the last moment, and he’s so worried he just leapt straight on Constance’s head

He just BARELY missed her

Penny is trying to decide the best jumping pose she should do when Noel comes CHARGING at her and knocks her off, going down with her

REVENGE

From the bay, Ocean’s FOMO is starting to kick in, so she wants to join in on the jumping! Or, at least, she wants to sit up on the rock and be around the others

So, she gets on that stupid dolphin blowup (because remember, this bitch can’t swim), and Penny pulls it over to the rock

…Or, Penny was SUPPOSED to

Penny though it was funny to abandon Ocean halfway to the rock and pushes her away

Ocean is stranded

She just starts YELLING for help

She looks like a disowned baby red panda clinging to the back of this goofy dolphin blowup

Constance rescues her

Finally, she gets to the rock!

And then she promptly slips because it’s slippery and busts her ass on solid stone

Long story short, her tailbone is cracked

At one point, Ocean lets out the most shrill scream, and they all turn to see one of her Crocs floating away down the stream

Let’s be honest, I fear if Ricky had done half the things he did for Gina this season (aka, being the worlds biggest cheerleader to his girlfriend), Nini probably would’ve made several snide comments about feeling coddled by him.

Things are moving on up for the Broke family.

Dustin however is looking to flex his pickpocketing muscles, and incidentally his friend Ricky Cormier wants to hang out. Dustin feels a little bad bringing him Downtown, in case they get caught and Ricky gets wrapped up in this mess. But Dustin isn't known for making great decisions.

Still, they have a pretty good time.

And while Ricky's not paying attention, Dustin tries to get a wallet from an unsuspecting townie...

But upon further inspection, she didn't have pockets to pick.

A gentlemanly observer just so happened to walk by and show him how it's done.

I'll never understand why people act like the first season of HSMTMTS is or should be deemed the best?

Don't get me wrong, it's totally fine to have a sense of nostalgia because you might recall season 1 being the first time you fell in love with the show or you're reminiscing about what drew you into it in the first place, but most arguments about season 1 never involve talking about any aspects of the show other than the fact that it ended with the R*ni love confession, and it makes it difficult for me to believe that there's any other reasons why you deem the season so superior to the others.

When you remove the nostalgia blinders, season 1 only gives a semblance of justice to a tiny amount of characters. Ricky and Nini get the most attention devoted to them, but whether it's because of the writing or simply the fact that she's the best actress on the show who's also capable of elevating any material that's given to her, it's Gina personally that stands out to me this season. Yet while it was airing, she was getting harassment from R*nis who were ignoring the obvious issues in their relationship to take all of their anger out on Gina. This would go on to happen for two more seasons.

Everyone other than Ricky, Nini, Gina, and maybe EJ, gets abandoned or shoehorned into things that age in a horrific way. I would argue that Kourtney's character suffers the most this season, and it was actually jarring seeing someone as vocally talented as Dara Reneé play a character that wasn't initially a singer. She wasn't even supposed to have a role on the show that lasted beyond two episodes, and yet she has one of the strongest, if not the strongest voice in the entire cast. For a show that was meant to revolve around theater kids, that alone was unrealistic and as a black woman, I can't ignore how colorism played a role in that. No one with a voice like that would have been given a supporting position if they were nonblack. Somehow the likes of M*tt C*rnett were given more solos on the show, and he is easily the worst male "vocalist" of the cast.

I won't even get into the fact that other than Gina, EJ was one of the most hated characters that season singlehandedly for getting in the way of R*ni, yet once the chances of R*ni making it to endgame status were getting increasingly lower, everyone decided that he was their favorite person and became P*rtwells. Not because they saw potential in anything (we all know one of the biggest plot points of season 1 was Rina getting closer, no matter how many people want to ignore it) but because they hated the idea of any character involved in R*ni being happy with someone who wasn't a part of their ship. Because I'm saving that for a later conversation.

The point is, like every season, season 1 had more flaws than most of the fandom wants to acknowledge, especially in the characterization of the ensemble cast, which was never the right move for a show that would not be as strong without their ensemble. Nostalgia as well as the plague of real life shipping has made people believe that this season was somehow unbeatable, when I would even argue that at the show's absolute worst in season 2 we would already see the improvements and corrections that season 1 failed to expand on. Such as giving underutilized characters like Kourtney and Carlos more depth by introducing their storylines with dealing with self doubt and acceptance.

I've always said that the episode that really made me stick with the show was episode 5 of season 1, and it isn't just because I'm an avid Rina. One of my favorite parts of the episode will always be the Born to Be Brave group number. Seeing Carlos start off dancing by himself and then Ashlyn going up to join him was one of the first moments of the show where I noticed just how strong the ensemble was and just how much heart they all brought to the show.

One love confession that didn't even manage to end up being the best love confession on the show is not what made the show what it is now. Delusional nostalgia is trying to tell you that despite other seasons allowing characters who were overdue in getting their own storylines finally have their moments to shine, nothing will ever amount to season 1 because of what you shipped. Season 1 didn't even deal with their deepest subjects. In retrospect, the entire season was essentially like a trial run. Even the first 4 episodes were written by a different show runner. The entire thing was an experiment. And while it was a good start and while I do understand why it's a season that's so loved, I just wish more people would unpack the reasons why they loved it and stopped dismissing the fact that there were seasons that did things better, even if your nostalgia is trying to tell you otherwise.
