this episode was great. this ending in particular reminded me of another ending. i love the grandparent unsuspectingly keeping photos of their grandkid in their wallet trope. i love how the contrast of this is that rick was looking at something he yearned for (diane) and chose to walk away and choose his family (morty) while goldie was looking at something she yearned for (having a place in scrooge's life and by extension, family) and chose to walk away and reject said family (louie in particular) (for now)

So… remember all the way back in The Wedding Squanchers when Rick assumed that the wedding invitation was an invite to Birdperson’s ‘annual Oscars party’?

And then in Juricksic Mort Rick was desperate to host the Oscars and refused to take Curtis as a plus one?

And notice the way Rick deliberately looks at Birdperson when he says ‘makes sense he recognises me, we both hosted the Oscars. It’s a pretty exclusive club’?

Now I’m not saying that Rick manipulated the President into getting him the Oscar host gig in hopes of impressing Birdperson… but that’s totally what I’m saying.

even though rick didn't go down with morty in the hole, he still stayed waiting for him. he didn't seem to panic or call anyone, because i think deep down rick accepted that morty is 10x braver than him and knew (or hoped) he'd come back, which morty did

rick wasn't there during morty's journey with closure, yes. but he was there at the end of it, waiting for morty. when it mattered.

the journey of true self reflection and changing oneself internally can be really fucking hard, this show has pushed that message many times. but it's harder trying to navigate life after starting/completing the process. it helps having someone, something, a support system to keep you grounded. getting outside reassurance/opinion helps. rick has to know that because he needs that too.

i like to think rick was lying when he said only one person can go into the fear hole. how would we know? he didn't know about it, the guy didn't mention it (as far as i can recall). he didn't go in because he was terrified and knew that because his fears are considerably more heavy and fucked up (compared to morty's) he would not have been able to handle it and he likely would've died. morty is way more resilient than rick and he knows that (at least now).

i wouldn't be surprised if a part of rick is jealous of that resilience and ability to bounce back while also still being forgiving, compassionate, and empathetic; all traits rick arguably doesn't have, or isn't good at expressing.

but he wants to be able to have those abilities and traits too. it's gonna be a slow process for rick but he already did the hardest part which is taking that first step towards changing. starting is always the hardest part (imo anyway)

Does Prime even know that his Morty is alive?

Like- Prime might not know Morty’s existence. He did ask Jerry in his own universe about Rick and Morty, but what if that was because he didn’t realize the Cronenberged universe was his? Even after he did know it was his universe, he could’ve assumed his Morty was dead due to the Cronenbergs.

Does this make sense? I dunno anymore lol

RICK AND MORTY S7 EP 10 SPOILERS

THIS EPISODE WAS SO GOOD! My favorite part is that we get more of a look into who Dianne was as a person.

I always thought that she was smart or was at least a lover of science like Rick was, considering I don’t think it’s likely Rick would have married someone who didn’t share his love of science.

We’ve been able to get hints before of what her personality might have been like through Ricks Garage:

Both have been modeled after Diane and use her voice and both of which have always been sassy or sarcastic towards him.

We also know that Summer reminds Rick of Diane as he’s said twice before in S6 Ep1 and S7 Ep 7 and we all know what Summers personality is like lol

We’ve now gotten the best glimpse at what Diane was like and a hint of what Ricks job was before he invented portal travel:

It’s seems he might have met Diane

1) while he had been working for the government and she may have also been a scientist employed by them

Or 2) she had been arrested by the robot that Rick had built while working for the feds.

(Either way both options are funny)

We see that Diane went to university and received a masters degree and probably loved science like Rick did

We see how her personality is similar to his when they join a drinking contest together, but also how Diane might have been more of a “party person” than Rick was when they were in college.

(I mean this episode suggested she was arrested by a law enforcement drone Rick built)

Considering how she comments on how he used to be a “lightweight” and later on tells him that “her dying made him cooler” (suggesting he didn’t used to be the drunk unhinged man that we’ve become so accustomed to seeing him as) we can assume that she was probably the unhinged one

IN CONCLUSION DIANE IS A SMART AWESOME BADASS WOMAN THAT NERDY YOUNG RICK FELL HEAD OVER HEELS FOR BECAUSE HE THOUGHT SHE WAS COOL IN THIS ESSAY I WILL-

SEASON 7 SPOILERS AHEAD AND WORD VOMIT

A lot of people see morty as becoming detached to rick but i actually think the opposite is happening. I think that rick and morty are closer than ever??

LIKE ok… end of s6 rick lets morty in on the biggest most IMPORTANT thing hes been working towards for DECADES In e1 we see that riffing bit with the coffee— morty coming to check up on rick and his progress?

IDK BUT IM GETTING PARTNERS VIBES morty isnt just a sidekick anymore! Plus rick trusting morty to run dangerous errands on his own??? Also!! If morty was becoming detached from Rick— i feel like selling drugs goes against his morals/values from previous seasons? Seems like something he would be reallt against… but here he is out doing shady work for Rick LIKE?????????? Morty relishing the power ricks name has in the universe had me going WILD such a sassy boy

And not to mention the part where morty is like fuck you and your freaky Friday shit imma handle this myself and get myself out of this mess HAHAHAH hes becoming so capable!!

LIKE THE sass directed at rick.. hes no longer afraid of holding back and rick is letting morty talk to him like that. I see that as a positive sign that the power balance between them is evening out. I hope to see some of that bad ass partner chemistry like in “run the jewels” this season but we will see!!!!

So I actually read the comic, and why didn’t anyone tell me Doofus Jerry got an ambiguous death scene? A giant worm falls on top of him, him losing an arm as its mouth covers him, and Rick zaps it away — with what was later established as a teleporting gun, not a disintegrator! So we could potentially see him return one day (be it in a comic or the TV series).

(spoilers for comic issue 23?)

Ohhh that panel is such a memorable scene for me. 😂😂 (not to mention he looks pretty good here too-)

though I don't think that gun will teleport him anywhere since earlier we saw the gun (that I think doofus jerry made it?) being used on one of the rick guards and he doesn't seem so good. (unless he did teleport away somewhere)

and the same gun was used later when he got crushed by the worm. so i don't think the gun could teleport him anywhere unless I'm missing something here 🤔🤔

also, I think it'd be hard to bring him back in the comic since these issues came out quite a long time now (~6 years now), and the main rick and morty comic series have already ended... I haven't seen them make a spinoff with characters from the comic before.

don't get me wrong, I'd LOVE to see him make a comeback of course! 😭😭😭 it'd be so interesting to see him on the show or something like that 🥺🥺 I feel like there are so many things to play with. I mean he gets his body crushed and all but it's NOT like we really see the body..... 🫣🫣 and the worm... or clone him back with those body parts..... (orz)

Though I could see him making it into the show one day, but with some rewriting and a new introduction. since:

we are not sure if Doofus and Jerry are still friends cuz in S6E1 they confirmed that Jerry was swapped during S2E2. So the jerry that met doofus rick was actually S1E7~S2E2 jerry (Season 2 jerry) (but they could also have them befriend off-screen)

I used to be against the idea of bringing him back cuz I don't really trust the writers? 😭 But curiosity got the best of me. And since he's getting recognization because of S6, I'd say not all hope is lost! :D

I FINALLY finished s6 so I can start reading your analysis posts again! I’ve had the Rick and Morty tag filtered for a while to avoid any spoilers but it feels amazing to not have to worry about that anymore lol. this episode hurt so baaaad

being fresh off the betrayal and the new imminent danger to the planet coalescing into morty crying when the president insults his light saber want. its so real. hes a kid and everything is a lot

i personally started crying when robot rick got all torn up, and then later on in the episode when he 'died'. )':

and the ending left such a bad taste in my mouth. i think the viewers would have felt at the very least some catharsis if morty were able to just say no fuck you rick im not helping you out. but alas. i worry things will go the same trajectory as early season ricks treatment of things, mainly morty.

something i notice about rick is how hyperfixated he gets on certain things and just tunnels in on them- like the crows(tho tht was more of a manipulation technique imo…), the gotron ferrets, etc. when he encountered prime rick's base he was dead set on it, not caring if he died, just tunneled in on getting that fucker. i feel like he's still in the same place mentally as he was then and might neglect morty as he had in the earlier seasons. i.e caring more about what he's tunneled in on than external factors. he needs to stop avenging the family he lost and cherish the one he has. or he's going to end up with none at all.

also… im very curious about rick prime being in all those locations at once. clones? TIME travel? does this tie into his regeneration? can all the clones* regenerate????? curious. and so very hurt

I love how these last two episodes have a similar theme- a near opposite one to the brand of nihilism from seasons past. This season hammers in that every life matters to the people within it.

Cronenberg family were abandoned to die, and they were real people who suffered consequences and lost harshly. Bouncing Dimensions and Timelines doesn’t erase tragedies. Space Beth and Earth Beth, sure one is a clone, but it doesn’t matter actually because they are both people and both receive affection and protection.

Marta was just a small percentage of Morty within a video game, a video game that until now has been a casual running goof that questions the value of life and what reality is. But those people, even aware they were actually part of a 14 year old boy, they valued their lives and their loved ones. It was real to the people inside. And Rick, who in earlier seasons would’ve taken as much Morty he could get (if he’d have bothered at all), he waits till he can get every piece he can and respects Marta Morty’s wish to have her own life play out in the game. He says he loves her.

I love how this is fully continuing what the revelation in season 5 demanded. Rick cares. He isn’t souless in his nihilism. He deeply cares about his Diane and Beth, he loves his current family. He stayed on the vengenance quest for decades instead of trying to replace them bc it was those people he loved who mattered and they were gone. Rick will protect his Morty, the grandson and the entire family he has come to value personally.
