Nostalgia- (1960s- 1970s)
Nostalgia has always been my friend. When no one was around, the feeling of nostalgia was a company. Even though I did not have the privilege of being born during the golden period, 1960s and 1970s, I don’t know what it’s to be like living in that era, yet a bittersweet nostalgia engulfs me when I think about it.
The allure of Rajesh Khanna movies, the purity of old-fashioned romance, and the timeless classics by Kishore Kumar all carry a sense of comfort and warmth.
There is a deep, emotional connection to something I’ve never witnessed, people I’ve never met, lifestyle I’ve never come close to and feelings of simplicity I don’t think I’ll ever experience.
The elegance of a cotton saree, the richness of authentic Indian culture and the modest way of life—they transport me to days gone by. I yearn for the time when people found solace in reading dusty brown books lining in cracked shelves.
Above all, i miss the significance of letters. The lost art of pouring out emotions on a piece of paper when it becomes difficult to express yourself into spoken words.
When innocent gazes from right across the street could lead to people sending love letters and igniting a lifelong love…
When lifestyle was humble, cherishing valuable moments with family was appreciated and people melted their day’s exhaustion over a cup of chai and good company.
And When people lied at home and sneaked out to watch Shammi Kapoor’s latest hits.
From Trams, rickshaws, telephones to vintage cassettes on the radio, I find myself obsessing over the simplest of the retro things.
I cannot put into words how I feel when I stumble upon a 1970s cassette set or when I come across pictures clicked in 1963.
It leads me to contemplate my hypothetical existence as what my life would’ve been like if I was present in that moment. Would I have chosen a path as a teacher? Or a skilled weaver?
Perhaps, my role would have involved fostering a sense of community by hosting the neighborhood children for a cup of chai and some namkeen. My heart feels full and my eyes become blurry when I think about “what could’ve been” , “how would it feel” , “when could’ve been better” .
These feelings and thoughts occupy my mind and leave me thinking some parts of me belong to an era which has no clue about my existence.
I feel a disconnection from my own generation as if I am displaced from my people, not being able to resonate with any of them.
When the present fails to provide any of those sentiments that I ache for, I find myself engaged in the past, seeking nostalgic experiences. It is fascinating how an era we never personally encountered can have such a deep and emotional impact on our lives, resonating with us in so many ways, leaving an indelible mark on our lives.
This bittersweet feeling makes me want to wear a Banarasi silk saree and lie down on a hammock, listening to Lata Mangeshkar Ji’s “Ehsan Tera Hoga Mujhpar” .

Knowing how to choose the right petticoat for a saree
Tumblr media
In the rich tapestry of Indian culture, the saree holds a special place, symbolizing elegance, tradition, and grace. Draping a saree isn't just about wrapping fabric around oneself; it's an art form, a timeless expression of femininity and sophistication. While choosing the perfect saree is crucial, what often gets overlooked is the importance of the foundation garment - the saree petticoat. Often relegated to the background, the right petticoat can make all the difference in achieving that flawless saree drape.
Indian saree petticoats are more than just a supporting garment; they play a vital role in ensuring the saree drapes beautifully and enhances your silhouette. From the fabric to the fit, here's how mastering the art of saree draping begins with selecting the right petticoat.
Understanding the Role of a Saree Petticoat
Before delving into the nuances of selecting the perfect petticoat, it's essential to understand its role in saree draping. A petticoat provides the foundation for the saree, lending it structure and shape. It acts as a base onto which the saree fabric is draped and tucked, ensuring a smooth and graceful fall. Moreover, the petticoat holds the pleats in place, preventing them from slipping and maintaining the saree's elegance throughout the day.
Choosing the Right Fabric
One of the critical factors to consider when selecting a saree petticoat is the fabric. While cotton petticoats are popular for their breathability and comfort, silk petticoats are preferred for their luxurious feel and smooth texture. Depending on the saree fabric and occasion, you may opt for a petticoat that complements the saree material.
For instance, if you're wearing a silk saree, a silk petticoat would be the ideal choice as it ensures the saree drapes seamlessly without any creases or wrinkles. On the other hand, if you're donning a lightweight chiffon or georgette saree, a cotton petticoat would provide the necessary grip for the fabric to hold its shape.
Ensuring the Right Fit
The fit of the petticoat is paramount in achieving a flattering saree drape. A well-fitted petticoat not only accentuates your curves but also provides the necessary support for the saree to fall gracefully. When selecting a petticoat, ensure that it sits snugly at your waist without being too tight or too loose.
Additionally, consider the length of the petticoat, which ideally matches the length of your saree. A petticoat that is too long can cause the saree to drag on the floor, while a shorter petticoat may result in an awkward drape. Aim for a length that allows the saree to skim the floor gracefully, with just a hint of the petticoat peeking through.
Exploring Design Options
While functionality is paramount, saree petticoats also offer an opportunity to experiment with different designs and styles. From basic solid colors to intricate embellishments and lace detailing, there's a myriad of options to choose from based on your personal preference and saree style.
Opt for a neutral-colored petticoat like white or beige for versatility, or add a pop of color with vibrant hues like red or royal blue to complement your saree's palette. Embroidered or printed petticoats can also add a touch of glamour to your ensemble, especially for festive occasions or weddings.
Maintaining Care and Comfort
Lastly, caring for your saree petticoats is essential to ensure longevity and comfort. Always wash them gently by hand or on a delicate cycle to preserve the fabric and prevent any damage. Hang them to dry in a well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight to avoid shrinking or fading.
Additionally, consider investing in multiple petticoats in different colors and fabrics to cater to various saree styles and occasions. This allows you to mix and match effortlessly, ensuring you always have the perfect foundation for your saree ensemble.
For quality saree petticoats that enhance your saree experience, explore the exquisite collection at Women India, where tradition meets innovation.
In conclusion, mastering the art of saree draping begins with selecting the right petticoat. Indian saree petticoats not only provide the necessary support and structure but also contribute to the overall aesthetic of your ensemble. By paying attention to factors such as fabric, fit, design, and maintenance, you can elevate your saree game and exude confidence and poise with every drape. So the next time you adorn a saree, remember that the perfect petticoat is the secret to mastering this timeless art form.

In this article, we will explore the world of fancy sarees, their types, how to choose the perfect one, styling tips, and more.
The Rich Heritage of Sarees
Tumblr media
Sarees have a rich history and diverse regional variations across India. They are often made from luxurious fabrics like silk, chiffon, georgette, and cotton. Traditional sarees are known for their intricate handwoven designs, vibrant colors, and exquisite craftsmanship.
Embracing Fashion Trends with Fancy Sarees
Tumblr media

These sarees incorporate modern elements such as embroidery, sequins, prints, and unique draping styles. By wearing a fancy saree, you can make a bold fashion statement while still honoring the roots of Indian culture.
Types of Fancy Sarees
Embroidered Sarees
Embroidered sarees are a popular choice for weddings and special occasions. They feature intricate threadwork or beadwork that enhances the overall beauty of the saree. You can find embroidered sarees in various designs, including floral motifs, paisleys, and geometric patterns.
Designer Sarees
Designer sarees are crafted by renowned fashion designers, combining traditional craftsmanship with contemporary aesthetics. These sarees are often one-of-a-kind creations, featuring unique embellishments, unconventional draping styles, and innovative fabric combinations.
Printed Sarees
Printed sarees are a versatile and affordable option for both casual and formal wear. They come in a wide range of prints, such as floral, abstract, geometric, and ethnic motifs. Printed sarees are lightweight and comfortable, making them suitable for everyday wear.
Sequined Sarees
Sequined sarees are perfect for glamorous events and parties. These sarees are adorned with sequins or small reflective discs that create a shimmering effect when caught in the light. Sequins can be scattered all over the saree or concentrated on specific areas like the border or pallu.
Choosing the Perfect Fancy Saree
When selecting a fancy saree, there are a few factors to consider to ensure it complements your style and occasion.
Consider the Occasion
Choose a saree that matches the formality of the event. Opt for heavily embellished sarees for weddings and festivals, while lighter and simpler designs are suitable for casual gatherings.
Identify Your Body Type
Different draping styles and fabric choices can enhance your body type. If you have a petite frame, opt for lighter fabrics and delicate prints. If you have a curvier figure, choose sarees with vertical patterns or slimming designs.
Play with Colors and Patterns
Experiment with different colors and patterns to express your personal style. Bold and vibrant colors make a statement, while pastel shades offer an elegant and subtle look. Consider your skin tone and the occasion when selecting the color palette.
Explore Different Fabrics
Each fabric has its own unique drape and texture. Silk sarees exude elegance, while chiffon and georgette sarees offer a more lightweight and flowy appeal. Cotton sarees are perfect for casual settings and hot climates.
Styling Tips for Fancy Sarees
Blouse Designs
The blouse complements the saree and can significantly impact your overall look. Choose a blouse design that suits your body type and personal style. Experiment with different necklines, sleeve lengths, and back designs to create a fashionable ensemble.
Draping Styles
The draping style of the saree can transform its appearance. You can opt for traditional draping styles like the Nivi or experiment with modern and innovative drapes. YouTube tutorials and online resources can help you learn various draping techniques.
Accessorizing
Complete your fancy saree look with the right accessories. Statement jewelry, such as necklaces, earrings, and bangles, can elevate your outfit. Consider the saree's design and colors when selecting accessories to ensure a harmonious and balanced look.
Taking Care of Your Fancy Sarees
To maintain the beauty and longevity of your fancy sarees, it's essential to follow proper care and storage practices.
Proper Storage
Store your sarees in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Fold them neatly or hang them using padded hangers to avoid creasing. Consider using fabric bags or covers to protect them from dust and moisture.
Cleaning and Maintenance
Follow the care instructions provided with your saree. Some sarees may require dry cleaning, while others can be hand-washed or machine-washed. Treat stains promptly and avoid using harsh chemicals or bleach. Iron the saree at a low temperature or as recommended by the manufacturer.
Conclusion
Fancy sarees offer a delightful blend of tradition and contemporary fashion, allowing you to transform your look with elegance and style. By choosing the right type of fancy saree, experimenting with draping styles, and accessorizing thoughtfully, you can create stunning ensembles for various occasions. Remember to take good care of your sarees to preserve their beauty for years to come.

HISTORY OF INDIAN CLOTHES:
The history of Indian clothes dates back to ancient times, and it has evolved over the centuries, reflecting the influences of different rulers, invaders, and social, political, and economic changes.
During the Indus Valley Civilization (2600 BCE-1900 BCE), people in India wore garments made of cotton and silk, and there is evidence of jewelry and accessories made of precious metals and stones.
The Mauryan Empire (322 BCE-185 BCE) is known for the development of the dhoti, a long rectangular piece of cloth worn by men that is wrapped around the waist and legs. The dhoti was also worn by women during this time, along with the saree, which was draped around the body and over the head.
The Mughal Empire (1526 CE-1857 CE) had a significant impact on Indian dress culture, introducing new styles and fabrics, such as the churidar, a form-fitting legging, and the anarkali, a long, flowing dress. The Mughals also brought with them the art of embroidery, which became an important part of Indian dress.
During the British colonial period (1858 CE-1947 CE), Indian dress culture was further influenced by Western fashion trends, with many Indians adopting Western-style clothing. However, traditional clothing styles remained popular, especially among the rural population.
After India gained independence in 1947, there was a renewed interest in traditional Indian dress, with designers and fashion houses exploring new styles and fabrics. Today, Indian dress culture is a vibrant mix of traditional and modern styles, with a wide variety of clothing styles and designs available for both men and women.

Tumblr media
Introduction: In a world dominated by mass-produced textiles, there's something truly captivating about the timeless charm of handcrafted fabrics. Khadi, a fabric deeply rooted in India's rich cultural heritage, stands as a symbol of sustainable fashion, craftsmanship, and the spirit of self-reliance. Let's delve into the captivating world of Khadi and discover why it continues to enchant fashion enthusiasts across the globe.
A Historical Legacy: Khadi has an illustrious history dating back to India's struggle for independence. It was Mahatma Gandhi who recognized the potential of Khadi as a means to empower rural communities and promote self-sufficiency. Natural and Sustainable: One of the defining characteristics of Khadi is its sustainable and eco-friendly nature. It is made from natural fibers such as cotton, silk, or wool, without the use of any chemical processes or machinery. This manual process not only preserves the purity of the fabric but also reduces carbon footprint and promotes sustainable practices.
Craftsmanship and Artistry: The beauty of Khadi lies in the intricate craftsmanship and attention to detail that goes into its creation. Each piece of Khadi fabric is meticulously handwoven by skilled artisans who imbue their expertise and creativity into every thread. The handloom process allows for customization, resulting in unique patterns, textures, and designs that cannot be replicated by machines. This craftsmanship not only preserves traditional weaving techniques but also provides livelihood opportunities to countless artisans, keeping ancient skills alive.
Versatile and Timeless: Khadi is a fabric that effortlessly transcends trends and seasons. Its versatility makes it suitable for a wide range of apparel, from elegant sarees and kurtas to contemporary dresses and shirts. The breathable nature of Khadi allows for excellent air circulation, making it ideal for warm climates. A Symbol of Empowerment: Khadi holds a special place in the heart of India as a symbol of empowerment. It has played a significant role in supporting rural economies, empowering artisans, and preserving traditional skills. By choosing Khadi, we contribute to sustainable development, fair trade practices, and the revival of local communities. It's a way of embracing fashion that respects the environment and values the hands that create it.

Sari Blauj Pairing Guide: Match Your Blauj with Different Saree Fabrics
The perfect saree look is incomplete without the right blauj. A well-matched blouse enhances the elegance of a saree, bringing together colors, fabrics, and designs in a harmonious blend. Whether you’re styling for a grand occasion or an everyday ethnic look, choosing the right sari blauj combination can elevate your outfit instantly. From luxurious silks to breezy cottons, this guide will help you pair your blouse with different saree fabrics effortlessly.
Understanding Fabric Compatibility
Tumblr media
Not all blouse fabrics complement every saree material. The weight, texture, and drape of the fabric should guide your choice. A heavily embroidered latest blauj might not suit a lightweight georgette saree, just as a simple cotton blouse may not do justice to a rich Kanjeevaram. Let’s explore how to pair your blouse with different types of sarees for a flawless look.
1. Silk Sarees with Embroidered or Brocade Blouses
Silk sarees exude luxury and tradition, making them perfect for festive occasions and weddings. To enhance their grandeur, pair them with embroidered or brocade ladies blauj. These fabrics add an extra layer of sophistication without overshadowing the richness of the silk.
Best Blauj Styles: Zari work, velvet, Banarasi silk blouses

Tumblr media
Banarasi silk sarees, with their timeless elegance and exquisite craftsmanship, have been a symbol of luxury and tradition for centuries. If you have a special occasion coming up and you want to make a lasting impression, there's no better choice than a Banarasi silk saree. In this article, we will guide you through the process of selecting the perfect Banarasi silk saree that will enhance your beauty and create an unforgettable look.
Understanding Banarasi Silk Sarees
Tumblr media
Banarasi silk sarees, originating from the city of Varanasi in India, have a rich history and cultural significance. They are handcrafted using pure silk threads and are known for their intricate weaving techniques and opulent designs. The craftsmanship involved in creating Banarasi silk sarees has been passed down through generations, making each piece a work of art.
Types of Banarasi Silk Sarees
Tumblr media
When it comes to Banarasi silk sarees, there is a wide variety to choose from. Traditional Banarasi silk sarees feature classic designs like the Katan, Georgette, Organza, and Shattir. These sarees often showcase intricate motifs inspired by Mughal architecture, nature, and mythological stories. In recent times, contemporary variations of Banarasi silk sarees have also emerged, incorporating modern designs and motifs to cater to different tastes and preferences.
Choosing the Right Banarasi Silk Saree
Tumblr media
To choose the perfect Banarasi silk saree for your special occasion, it's essential to consider several factors. First, determine the occasion and purpose of wearing the saree. Whether it's a wedding, festival, or celebratory event, the saree's design and embellishments should align with the theme. Next, consider the fabric and design elements. Pure silk sarees offer a luxurious feel, while blended silk sarees provide affordability without compromising on elegance. Additionally, the color and motifs of the saree should complement your complexion and personal style.
Authenticity and Quality
Tumblr media
As Banarasi silk sarees are highly sought after, it's important to ensure authenticity and quality when making a purchase. Genuine Banarasi silk sarees bear a special identification mark, such as a government seal or a handloom mark. These sarees undergo a meticulous weaving process, resulting in rich textures and intricate patterns. When examining a Banarasi silk saree, pay attention to the weave, zari work, and the overall finish to determine its quality.
Finding the Perfect Fit
Tumblr media
Apart from the saree itself, the way you drape and carry it plays a crucial role in your overall appearance. Explore different draping styles to find the one that suits you best and complements your body type. Consider your height, body shape, and personal preferences when choosing the right draping style. Experimenting with different styles can help you create unique looks and enhance your comfort while wearing the saree.
Maintenance and Care
Tumblr media
To ensure your Banarasi silk saree retains its beauty for years to come, proper maintenance and care are essential. When not in use, store your saree in a muslin or cotton cloth to protect it from dust and moisture. Avoid hanging it for long periods as this can strain the fabric. When it comes to cleaning, handwashing with mild detergent is recommended. It's advisable to consult a professional cleaner for stubborn stains or intricate zari work.
Selecting the Accessories
Tumblr media
To complete your ensemble, carefully choose the accessories that will enhance the beauty of your Banarasi silk saree. Consider the occasion and the saree's color while selecting jewelry and footwear. Opt for traditional gold or silver jewelry to complement the richness of the saree. The blouse you pair with the saree should complement its design and colors. Additionally, select appropriate footwear that adds elegance to your overall look.
Where to Buy Banarasi Silk Sarees?
Finding a trusted source to purchase Banarasi silk sarees is crucial to ensure authenticity and quality. Local stores and showrooms in Varanasi are renowned for their wide range of Banarasi silk sarees. If you prefer online shopping, look for reputable platforms that specialize in handloom products and have positive customer reviews. It's advisable to buy from sellers who provide detailed product descriptions and offer return policies to ensure a satisfying shopping experience.
Cost Considerations
The price of a Banarasi silk saree can vary depending on various factors. The type of silk, intricacy of the design, and the amount of zari work contribute to the overall cost. Set a budget for your saree purchase and research different options within your price range. It's important to strike a balance between your budget and the value for money you expect from the saree. Remember that a high-quality Banarasi silk saree is an investment piece that can be cherished for a lifetime.
Customization and Tailoring Services
If you desire a unique touch or want to personalize your Banarasi silk saree, consider exploring customization and tailoring services. Many designers and weavers offer bespoke options, allowing you to choose specific design elements, colors, and motifs. Customizing a saree not only adds a personal touch but also ensures that it perfectly matches your vision for the special occasion.

Wearing a Banarasi silk saree is an art in itself. Here are a few tips to help you master the art of draping and styling your saree:
