Fictober Day 3: "I know you better"
That '70s Show Fanfiction
Fez had finished tempering chocolate in his industrial kitchen at home. He was trying out a recipe he created for Halloween candy. Rhonda designed packaging, and he hoped the manufacturer would deliver it in time.
The molds he'd designed himself months ago. He poured chocolate into them and slid the tray into his refrigerator. The pumpkin- and gost-shaped candies needed twenty minutes to set. It should go well, but his insides were melting with anxiety.
He wiped his sweaty hands on his apron, and Rhonda shouted, "Cocoa Puff!" Rhonda behind him. He stumbled from the refrigerator to her arms. "I'm sorry," she said and positioned him upright. 'I forget that you disappear into a different world when you're working."
"Yes. I did not expect you back for a half-hour."
"It's already past two. I'm starving!" She grasped the refrigerator handle, but he shouted at her to stop. "What's wrong?"
He grabbed frozen pork chops from the freezer. "Wrong? Nothing is wrong."
"I know you better -- and your voice is two octaves higher than usual."
He put the foil-wrapped pork chops into a pot, placed the pot in the sink, filled the pot with hot water, and weighed down the pork chops with a ceramic canister. "They will be defrosted before your hunger devours you."
She cupped his chin and pecked his lips. "Thanks. Now what's devouring you?"
Ah, his mashed potato was so perceptive. He wouldn't know what to do without her, and that was the problem. Her parents had discovered oil on their Mississippi dirt farm, taking them out poverty to the rich life. They were the real Beverly Hillbillies, except they had remained in Mississippi.
"I'm worried my candies will not be good enough for Miss Kitty's Halloween party."
Rhonda laugh-snorted. "It's only October third. You've been working on this candy for a month and have another month to perfect them. So what's actually bothering you?"
Fez glanced around the industrial kitchen. Their house in Kenosha was bigger than he believed he would ever live in. "What am I offering you?"
"Fez -- " she gestured to the sink -- "you're making me lunch."
"Ai, that is not enough! You're getting a PhD in kinesiology ... did I pronounce that correctly?" She nodded, and Fez continued. "Your career will help people. Becoming a chocolatier will make me happy. I hurt you to make me happy, too, but you forgave the unforgivable."
He ripped off his apron and tossed it to the floor. His life was a sham.
Rhonda picked up his apron. "Hey, that was over a decade ago, and you were under a bad influence."
"Do not use Casey Kelso to excuse my behavior. I am a horrible, horrible man."
"What's bringing all this up now? I don't get it. We're happy. Having a career that makes you happy will help other people. Remember Willy Wonka -- the movie version." She held his apron to her chest and sighed. "Gene Wilder is so sexy in it."
"Yes, he is. I suppose ... well ... " Fez ran his palm over the cold granite counter top. "Halloween is our favorite holiday -- and the anniversary of when we reconciled. This year, it feels more important than ever."
Rhonda slipped the apron over his head and embraced him. "Mr. and Mrs. Forman basically said it is. They've recruited all of us for her party. Even Kelso, Brooke, and Betsy, and they live in Chicago! We're only in Kenosha."
"And Jackie and Hyde live in Milwaukee. Perhaps the pressure is bringing up feelings I have not completely dealt with."
"We're gonna turn thirty next year. We have a lot of plans. I can't be your shrink. I can only tell you that I love you and want us to stay together past when you've gone bald and I've gotten arthritis."
She tried to kiss him, but Fez gasped and stepped backward. "I am not going bald! My father still has his hair."
"Gray, then." She attempted to kiss him again, and he let her. "I've got contacts at my university. I'll get the number of some shrinks for you ... if you're willing to try therapy."
"I'm willing to try anything as long as it means I can enjoy everything we have together."
She clasped his shoulders tightly. He winced, and her grip loosened. She had become better at assessing her own strength but not perfectly, and maybe that was the answer. Unlike chocolate, tempering his guilt did not have to be a perfect process. It could not be by its very nature. He was human, not candy.
Although he wouldn't mind being candy if Rhonda were the one who ate him.

Fez and Rhonda for the mbti thing
Hi there, Poorni! I really hope you like this a lot!
Rhonda Tate's MBTI Type, Big Three and Enneagram Type
Tumblr media
MBTI Type: ESTJ [The Executive]
ESTJ types are very high energy. They’d rather spend their time with other people than alone.
They tend to pay more attention to the details of a situation. They make decisions based on what they see right now.
Executives base their decisions on what makes sense, rather than what feels right. They listen to their head, not their heart.
They are responsible and like to plan ahead. They hold themselves accountable by making lists and following set processes and rules.
Big Three: Cancer Sun, Aries Moon and Virgo Rising
Cancer Sun: Ruled by the Moon, Cancers are emotionally mature, intuitive, sensitive, and artistic. They are guided by their tender, loving, and protective hearts.
Aries Moon: Lunar Aries are known to be emotionally responsive and impulsive at times, as they lead with fiery passions over than logic or reason.
Virgo Rising: Virgo ascendants are the fact-finders and checkers of the zodiac. They are fair-minded and slow to anger.
Enneagram Type: 6w7 [The Confidant]
Basic Fear: Six wing sevens’ fear losing their support system. This may be expressed through self-deprecating humor, in which they seek affirmation and assurance from other people.
Basic Desire: Their basic desire is to feel safe and supported. They show this by being loving and supportive to others. They honor their commitments and are very loyal to their friends.
Like other sixes, Confidants defend themselves by projecting their feelings, which may lead them to misunderstanding themselves and their relationships.

Do you have Fez ships? I know you dislike him but were there any pairings of his you like in the earlier seasons?
I really liked him and Rhonda together, and I found Caroline really interesting. I wish they hadn’t played her BP for laughs. Iirc, Fez generally treated her well, ignoring the name calling behind her back.

Fictober Day 25: "it consumes me"
That '70s Show Fanfiction
Fez and Rhonda's candy shop had a window that let people outside watch Fez make candy. He'd laid wax paper on the counter, and he spooned individual chunks of southern pecan praline onto it. The recipe was passed down through Rhonda's family, which he explained to the customers inside the shop who were also watching.
The daily shows were his idea. Adults seemed to love it as much as their kids, and Fez loved entertaining them. But his individual pralines weren't as uniform as they should've been. The Halloween cake he would help Miss Kitty make occupied his thoughts. He had added a pyrotechnic element to the design after Kelso suggested it.
Rhonda pulled him aside from the window counter once the wax paper was fully covered. She insisted he follow her to the pantry, which held ingredients and supplies, and was connected to the kitchen via a door.
"Your pralines are uneven," she said among boxes of baking cocoa and jars of different kinds of nuts. "They're never uneven. What's wrong?"
Fez brushed his fingers through his hair; he'd have to wash his hands after this conversation. "Miss Kitty wants a cake that will wow for her Halloween party, and she is very excited about the fireworks Kelso will teach me to install in the cake. The party is in five-and-half days. It consumes me."
"Aw, Fezzy ... " Rhonda yanked him into a hug. He eased into her warm yet firm embrace.
"Miss Kitty rid our house of the ghost," he said against her shoulder. "It is a debt I must repay."
"I don't think Mrs. Forman looks at it like that. She and Mr. Forman asked all of Eric's friends to pitch in."
He disentangled himself from her strong arms. A bag of jelly beans on a nearby shelf enticed him, but he would not eat away his stress. He learned that pitfall in culinary school.
"In my homeland," he said, "not repaying debts is worse than having a haunted home."
"You're worried about Kelso being your fireworks teacher, aren't you?"
"Yes!" he shouted, and a mixture of relief and guilt roiled in his stomach. "Even though he is much better at setting them off, he's still ..."
She caressed his cheek. "Kelso. Yeah, I understand. I'll find you a professional pyrotechnics guy to help this weekend."
He covered her hand on the side of his face. His guilt was fading away. He would invite Kelso to observe the professional. Kelso might enjoy the lesson as much as Fez's customers enjoyed Fez's candy-making. "I'm grateful to you -- for so many reasons."
"I'm grateful to you, too! I've never felt as loved and cherished in my life." She indicated the boxes and jars of ingredients in the pantry. "I used to find solace in that kind of stuff. I never had a high self-esteem; I accepted being treated like I'm worthless. Your accountability is so important."
She drew him into a gentler hug than before. "You learn from your mistakes, taught me how to trust that I'm important. My parents gave me money, but you helped her build an amazing life."
He parted from her enough to kiss her -- really kiss her. They made out against a shelf of spare pots and pans. They clanked and crashed together. One of the staff was bound to walk into the pantry, but he didn't care.

Fez, a Pride Moodboard.
He initially came out as bi while soul searching in the mid-80s, while his marriage with Laurie was disintegrating, but the inklings were there for a long time. He was more than half in love with Kelso throughout the late 70s and early 80s, even though it was clear Kelso loved Brooke and would never love him back (since Kelso made it clear he was straight).
It's hard enough to come out as gay in the midst of the AIDs panic, let alone bi. It's not easy being green, the gray in-between, when others are so black and white. Other than David Bowie and Freddie Mercury, he doesn't see bi people in the spotlight. Even though Buddy Morgan, a gay man who just returned from California, is firmly in Fez's line of vision for a little bit (but Rhonda ultimately won his heart). And then, he lusted after the boys of Milli Vanilli, even after they were revealed to be a fraud.
And as the term pansexual comes into prominence in the 90s, and RuPaul becomes a household name, Fez can't help but find him attractive. He falls down the great drag show rabbithole of '95, establishing his attraction to all types of people, as he firmly establishes himself as pan. For infinity, and beyond.

Do you think Fez would've had a better character arc if the writers hadn't nuked his and Rhonda's relationship like they did?
Absolutely. Fez’s “big goal” was to lose his virginity for so long. But with Rhonda, he fell in love and sex became secondary to that.
Rhonda, despite the show’s pejorative-for-a-joke name for her: Big Rhonda, is a subversive character. She’s someone who the audience isn’t supposed to consider aesthetically or sexually appealing. She’s visibly overweight, dresses out of fashion, wears glasses, and her height due to her weight is another strike against her attractiveness (not according to me but the T7S writers and a portion of U.S. society in the early 2000s). Yet she’s had a lot of sexual experience.
This fact lies in stark contrast to how T7S’s male characters speak about Kelso’s sister, who is apparently overweight enough for them to call her a cow during a circle, say, “Moo!” in reference to her, and claim she’ll never lose her virginity (i.e. that no man -- and I say man because these characters and the T7S writers didn’t think in non-heteronormativeterms -- would be attracted enough to her to have sex with her).
Fez, through his attraction to and love for Rhonda, grows and matures. The sense of entitlement he expresses toward Jackie -- that unless she returns his romantic affection, he won’t treat her with respect -- is not present in his relationship with Rhonda. He loves her so much that despite his obsession with having sex (finally), he puts it aside for her. He sacrifices his desires for her happiness.
If Fez and Rhonda’s relationship had stayed on course, their first time having sex together would’ve been likely been an event™. I’m sure humor would’ve been part of Rhonda and Fez’s recounting of the tale, but it wouldn’t have been the awkward story Fez tells his friends about having sex for the first time with Nina.
Rhonda would have, without embarrassment or annoyance, guided Fez to being a good lover -- even during that first time. Fez would’ve told her beforehand that he didn’t want it to be like Kelso’s first time with Jackie, and Rhonda would’ve said, “Just rub one out an hour or two before we start. That’ll help.”
With the nervousness and eagerness of losing his virginity out of the way, Fez would’ve been able to enjoy his relationship with Rhonda even more. They likely would’ve rivaled Jackie and Hyde in touchy-feeliness, and their fights would’ve been minor ones -- that Fez, being Fez, would’ve been a bit dramatic about.
At The Hub
Fez: I wanted the last French fry.
Rhonda: But I ate it already.
Fez: Without asking me.
Rhonda: They were our French fries. Why would I have to ask?
Fez: Because it was the last one.
Rhonda: Because you and I ate the others.
Fez [near-crying]: I still would’ve liked to be asked if I wanted it.
Rhonda: I’m sorry, Fez. I didn’t know it meant that much to you.
Fez: Well, it does! We’re not speaking.
Rhonda [worried]: Until when?
Fez: You cough up that last French fry and ask me if you can have it!
Rhonda: You’re being ridiculous, Fez. I’m not speaking to you until you grow up a little.
Fez [as Rhonda leaves The Hub]: This is as tall as I’m going to get! So I guess we’ll never speak again!
But they would eventually talk about the underlying issue and be more lovey-dovey than ever.
Their relationship had the potential to be obnoxious to all their friends in the basement for being so easy relative to their own romantic relationships. Fez and Rhonda could end up being the couple everyone went to for advice, and Rhonda would’ve been the one to marry Fez so he could stay in the country.
Hopefully, we’d get to meet Rhonda’s family, and she’d have storylines that focused on her where Fez plays a part. And storylines with the other characters without Fez.

Rhonda faces him. She’s glad he’s here. When he styled her engagement wardrobe and tried to kiss her, she realized she couldn’t stay faithful to Buster. She loves her husband, but she also loves her freedom.
Buster had no problem with her open-marriage idea. He’s a modern day vampire. As long as they come home to each other, he said, they’re good.

“So tell me about Rhonda,” Fez says. He needs to understand her romantic situation.

But she talks about art instead and how she’s heard Fez is an amazing painter.

“I don’t want to brag,” Fez says, “but I am an amazing painter. I’d like to paint you naked.”
“You want to paint me while I’m naked or paint me while you’re naked?”
“Same difference.”

Fez asks her for a kiss. If she kisses him, then he’ll know their love is true and she’ll dump her husband.
“I can’t,” she says. “I love Buster.”
“Do you love me?”
“I might.”
‘Ai ... what do you want me to do?” he says.
“Go slowly. I’m not sure how this whole open marriage thing works.”
“I can tell you one thing: don’t ask any of my friends on dates.”
She blushes. “Okay, I admit I’ve had a tiny crush on Hyde since I first saw him in town.”
“You’ve asked him on a dozen dates!”
“And he’s said no a dozen times. But I’m not the kind of woman who gives up,” she says. “And you’re not the kind of man who does, either. That’s one of the reasons I like you so much.”
Now Fez blushes, but not from her flattery. Bridgeport has changed Rhonda. He’s not sure who she is anymore.
