what if when rhea's out of commission after amaria tries to drown her, her pokemon do the pile thing but protectively. they all could see what was going on because transparent pokeball supremacy, and literally every single one of them went 'nope i'm not letting her even be able to see my trainer again.'
also, sol (flareon, same one just renamed him) never liked amaria, even as an eevee. rhea didn't understand why until he evolved into flareon and then she never really thought about it because of course a fire type isn't going to be relaxed around a water type trainer. but now sol absolutely hates her for trying that while he could see. and he couldn't do anything because of his typing.

Tumblr media
under cut
Name:
Nel, i mean it’s Sarah technically, but once you start getting multiple notes in the mail with Nel on them I think it counts. Nelfes works too. I respond to most anything tbh
Pronouns:
she/her or they/them
Birthday (no year):
Dec 6th Saint Nicholas Day : )
Where are you from? What is your time zone?
Chicago. CST [GMT-5].
Roleplay experience:
Over ten years, started on Neopets and other forums. Moved to Gaia Online and then Tumblr indie space some time in 2011.
Got any pets?
Baby boy
Favorite time of year:
Springtime or Autumn
Some interests and things you like:
I’ve always been super into mythology, all of them. I used to think that Carl Jung was onto something with the collective unconscious but then Anthropology and the reality of multilineal evolution ruined that for me (college will teach you things); but that’s alright because humans their ability to create and interpret their surroundings with equal parts love and fear is still pretty cool.
Some funfacts & trivia about you:
-Agnostic but i work in an occult library (it’s pretty quiet; the new age bookshop across the street has all the events)
-One time on Gaia Online I was kicked out of an Okami RP bc I didn’t make my posts aesthetic enough, and I thought it was just the most heart wrenching thing -I’m not sure what people stand to gain back in Ye Old Runescape luring new players out into the wild and PKing them but I was gullible enough to follow some other players at like 7 yrs old and this would have happened to me if i wasnt SUPER good at clicking my mouse and running out of there. Surviving such a harrowing experience made me think i was truly invincible.
-I was supposed to write my final paper for my Japanese Buddhism class on… surprise, Japanese Buddhism but I really wanted to talk about Kenji Miyazawa’s writings instead so I spun it through a lens of his Nichiren conversion and its impact on his poetry. My prof saw right through me but I still got an A.
What non-Fire Emblem games do you play?
Tales of RPG series raised me as a person so u know. I like Persona 1-2 era SMT though I’ve played Nocturne and IV as well. What else? Okami, LOZ: Twilight Princess, farm sims and visual novels. Genshin, on and off.
Favorite Pokemon type & Pokemon:
Psychic; wooper family (clogsire im so glad u joined us)
How did you get into Fire Emblem?
My neighbor would bring over Path of Radiance so I could play it on my gamecube with my own save back in the day
What Fire Emblem games have you played?
Tellius duology. Sacred Stones, FE 13-16; currently doing Blazing Blade. Archanea one day.
First Fire Emblem game:
POR
Favorite Fire Emblem game:
Tie between 3 Houses and Radiant Dawn
Any Fire Emblem crushes? 😳
It’s rhea okay. I wont lie and i wont pretend it isnt evidence of my spectacular taste either
If you’ve played the following games, who was your first S support? Who would you S support nowadays? - Awakening: Tiki (first S support was olivia bc i wanted a pink haired kid)  - Fates: honestly i’d have to revisit, i know i first married niles as m!corrin - Three Houses: I married each lord on their route tho it’s much funnier if you dont i think (First route was Crimson Flower but I saved at the split so I could marry Rhea first lmao) - Engage: Saphir 🥰
Favorite Fire Emblem class:
War Cleric or Qi Adept
If you were a Fire Emblem character, what would be your class?
I’d be the mage you have to drag around and treat with baby gloves only to learn like a single good spell I think
If you were a Three Houses character, what would be your affiliation?
Leicester Alliance tbh
If you were an Engage character, which Emblem would you Engage with?
Based purely on mechanics bc i love them all prob Soren dlc, Sigurd, Celica, and Lyn.
How did you find TOA?
End of 2020/beginning of 2021 I was really trying to get back into rp but couldn’t get into the various systems on discord. One community that I was trying was affiliates with The Officer’s Academy and an active tumblr community rly caught my interest. The rest is history!
Current TOA muses:
Rhea 3H, Micaiah Radiant Dawn, and miss Hortensia engage
Who was your first TOA muse? If you don’t have them anymore, could you see yourself picking them up again?
This blog right here! I put her down for a bit and probably will again but. It’s not like she ever leaves, instead of brain there is Rhea u see (i bear this burden so u do not have to)
Have you had any other TOA muses?
I played Sephiran for a hot sec and Ingrid for around a yearish iirc. Both very fun
Do you think you have a type of character you gravitate towards?
Not really? I need to be able to connect with them on some level obviously, and I tend to prefer characters who have like a clear childhood or background for why they are That Way. Micaiah was actually p difficult for this reason but being able to really shape her based on what little we know also made me ever more fond. ♥️ I love to stare at pegasusknight and serenesforest supports pages late at night tehe
What do you believe you enjoy writing the most?
I don’t particularly plan ahead but I really love when threads reflect past character development whether in a thread with the same muse or different. TOA extended universe… I’d like to do that more I think but first I have to actually make a support page huh? Since Rhea’s back she’s made more bonds though and that makes me happy.
Favorite TOA-related memory: Definitely Unlocked 2021! It was my first event after really starting to warm to the TOA community and i was an awe of the scope of the events. The mods thought this far ahead?! We can do this?! Every event since has just been even more fun but the surprise and intrigue i felt then really stayed with him
*How do you pronounce TOA?
Toe-uh. Like Dee-En-Dee. you know.
Got any delusions that didn’t see the light of day that you’d like to share? 😉
I think I mentioned I muse Hubert before, and also that I can't really seeing myself maintaining a blog for him? So other than that, no. I do think Nimh could be quite a bit of fun though *laughs*

ALL OF THEM@!!!! (I kid. Unless you want to.) 3, 5, 7, 12, 19, 25, and 33.
TV Show Ask Game
3) have you ever quit a show before it finished? why?
ouat.  because i was upset that they broke up my canon happy ending ship from ouat:iw for no reason just to throw the popular guy into the main show and have him fake date belle while she was pissed at rumple and then didn’t address why he was there or do other stuff with him after that.  and then the writing was just really bad and i stopped caring.  (probably would’ve stopped before s4 except they brought in elizabeth mitchell and mmmmmmmm i really like her.)
also naruto.  although i’m not sure if that counts because i quit somewhere during all the filler arcs before shippuden.  and i quit.  because of the filler arcs.  (there was almost an entire season of yu-gi-oh that i skipped because it was filler.  and i think i missed most of the last season, but i think i went back for the finale.)i stopped about halfway through wonderfalls because she got together with the guy and it felt like it was going to go into super shipping territory and i wasn’t about that life (and then apparently i’ve heard that it didn’t because i think she helps him get back with his wife? or something? like that? idk?? i haven’t seen it, obviously.  XD).
–obviously i have done this multiple times, particularly with long-running shows.  (i feel like i should include pokemon, too, but that had more to do with conflicting times between it and digimon, i think, which i enjoyed significantly more.) i don’t really watch shows all the way through and stick with them, so the shows i have done that with are probably a bigger deal than the ones i haven’t.
5) what’s your comfort show?
my little pony: friendship is magic.  don’t judge me.but, like, it started out as a comfort show because my ex and i had gotten into a HUGE fight and one of my roommates had been kind of involved (long story) and that was basically the fight that finalized for me the end of the relationship and my other roommate was like okay, we’re going to sit down and watch ponies and you will fall in love with luna and you will feel better and she was right.  luna is best pony.i’ve used other shows that way, too, but mlp:fim is my go-to when i’m in a depressive period.
7) have you ever been inspired to start a new show based on gifs or memes it has produced?
jane the virgin.  i mean, there’s a combination of influences that led to that, but the main final bit were those gif sets that nessie reblogged of luisa and rose and tagged for rhea and ivy.  because no one told me when they were trying to get me to watch it that there were lesbians.the only other one i could think of was symphogear, but i think that was more because i made a friend who wrote one of the main characters and less to do with the actual gifs.
12) have you ever watched a show just for a specific actor? did you enjoy it?
the fall. for gillian anderson (and jamie dornan because with his beard he’s actually not bad to look at).  and yeah, i enjoyed it.  the katie stuff in s2 was b a d, but other than that, yeah, i really enjoyed it!american gods i didn’t see all of, but i mostly saw it for gillian anderson to especially the episode she and kristin chenoweth were in together i really just saw it for that episode it was a great episode.i’ve been debating watching agent carter for bridget regan, and i definitely saw the tick for yara martinez.  i loved the tick and look forward to s2.oh and i saw ally mcbeal for calista because cat grant is great and ally mcbeal was great.and then i saw swingtown for lana parilla and i had to get past the first two episodes and also i was seeing it with jae but swingtown is also great.i started wonderfalls for caroline dhavernas (alana bloom in hannibal, if that helps) and i own it but i didn’t finish it.  i should add that one up above, actually.  i heard jewel straite shows up in the last few episodes, though, so.  might go back to that.  eventually.  maybe.
i do this a lot.
i may have gotten super excited about big little lies because nicole kidman and reese witherspoon and it was totally worth they hype and it was really good and it can be triggering but it was SO good.–might stop there because this list could maybe get really long.  but it’s a thing where in most cases i’ve actually enjoyed what i went back to see.  i’m sure there are examples where things didn’t live up to hype with things i watched primarily for actors?  but?  i can’t think of any tv shows where that happened.  maybe glee because idina menzel but i also started seeing that because the girl i had a crush on was super into it so.
19) are there any shows on your “to watch” list right now?
doctor who (which i’ve started and got distracted from finishing), legends of tomorrow (but skip s1, right?), a series of unfortunate events (which dad and i started but then we’re rarely in a place to see shows at the same time so now he’s on a doctor who marathon and i’ve been catching up on supergirl - but i’m hoping to jump in on his doctor who marathon when he gets back to where he left me the first time), merlin (because katie mcgrath duh), the kominsky method (which i’ve seen bits of and liked), person of interest (BECAUSE LESBIANS AND ALSO JIM CAVIEZEL), gurren lagann (which i’ve started and haven’t finished), jessica jones - and there’s other stuff, like, i have a long list on netflix and i think there’s stuff i’m not thinking of, but those are the ones that stand out.
OH KILLING EVE.  KILLING EVE IS ON THAT LIST.  AND WESTWORLD (which i’ve seen bits and pieces of while dad was binging the first season after we got it for him for Christmas).
25) do you prefer proper opening credits, or a simple title card?
opening credits.  give me a catchy theme song i can sing with and that will make me think of the show when i hear it.  give me a theme song that’s cool and then release it so that i can buy it.
get on japan’s level, america.
33) would you be interested in trying a show in another language?
ANIME IS REAL.
uh.
i mean.
uh.
>.>;;;;;;;
i’ve already done this with anime and at least one japanese drama so, like, yes definitely.  as long as i’ve got subtitles and it’s not content i wouldn’t want to watch anyway.

MOVIES (THAT MIGHT BE) WORTH CHECKING OUT IN MAY 2019:
MAY 3
LONG SHOT
One classy party reunites reporter Fred Flarsky (Seth Rogen) with his former babysitter and current Secretary of State Charlotte Field (Charlize Theron). Now she plans to run for President and hires Fred as her speechwriter. As they work together through her campaign, they begin to fall for each other.
It’s rarely certain whether a comedy will be good, especially adult comedies like this one. Raunchy comedies face a tightrope walk of delivering consistently funny humor while telling an engaging story. Plus, there’s no one way to be funny and there are many ways to be not funny. Romantic Comedies are a challenge because they live and die on the chemistry between the leads. Seth Rogen has already demonstrated strong romantic chemistry with Knocked Up and Charlize Theron is an excellent actress, but we must wait and see if they have any chemistry together.
Director Jonathan Levine certainly has proved himself with memorable comedies like 50/50 and Warm Bodies. But he’s also made lackluster comedies like The Night Before and Snatched. The only surefire way to know is to watch it.
MAY 10:
ALL IS TRUE
In case it isn’t clear, Kenneth Branagh loves the shit out of Shakespeare. Since garnering worldwide attention and acclaim with his star making directorial debut with Henry V, he’s adapted one William Shakespeare play after another every four years. It was only a matter of time before he played the Bard himself. Cue All is True, a film about the last moments of his life.
Shakespeare (Branagh) has finally come home to his wife Anne Hathaway (Judi Dench) and he comes home a legend. But his years apart has created distance between himself and his family. We’re given no information the above information.
Kenneth Branagh films are a hit and miss, even the Shakespeare ones. On one hand, you get compelling adaptations of Henry V and Hamlet. On the other hand, you get disasters like Love’s Labours Lost. In this film, he seems to portray Shakespeare as abrasive yet witty. But there’s more hope coming from writer Ben Elton, whose credit include classic British Comedies like Blackadder, The Young Ones and Mr. Bean. Still, comedy if a fickle genre and there’s no guarantee it will be good.
POKEMON: DETECTIVE PIKACHU
This movie has a lot going against it. First, it’s based on a video game, which is the notorious kiss of death for a movie. And considering the cartoony designs of the Pokémon, you can probably count this as a live action version of a cartoon (which is usually associated with lazy filmmaking). Plus, it’s based on a spin off of a popular game. And yet, the trailers had made Detective Pikachu not only has moviegoers intrigued but has made it one of the most anticipated films of the year. Of course, it could also be due to the Pokémon franchise being one of the most beloved franchises getting its second wind thanks to the Pokémon Go, but the trailers still deserve credit for making the movie look attractive.
Surprisingly, the film doesn’t focus on Ash Ketchum, Red, or any Pokémon trainer. Instead, our protagonist is Tim Goodman (Justice Smith), an ex-Pokémon trainer in a rut when he returns home after the death of his father. Then his life’s turned upside down when he finds a coffee-addicted Pikachu wearing a detective’s hat in his father’s office. This Pikachu woke up with no memories, a Sherlock Holmes hat and the voice of Ryan Reynolds. Detective Pikachu believes Tim’s father is still alive and is being held hostage. So, Tim and Detective Pikachu begin an investigation to find Tim’s father and discover his connection to the Pokémon.
When the trailers were released, audiences’ minds were blown by the incredible special effects. Pikachu and another Pokémon fit so naturally within the real world thanks to the detailed CGI. Albeit, there are a few that look a bit creepy (Mr. Mime and Jugglypuff), but Pikachu and Charizard look amazing. Plus, the story shows a lot of potential, with the dynamic of the disillusioned Tim and the enthusiastic Pikachu demonstrating strong chemistry.
With Rob Letterman directing, there’s uncertainty about the quality. Earlier, he’s made mediocre, forgettable movies like Gulliver’s Travels and the godawful Shark Tale. But then he made Goosebumps, a much better movie than it had any right to be. The later could be a sign of improvement, so I’m going into this with high hopes.
POMS
This seems like the perfect film for Mother’s Day.
Welcome to Sun Sprays, a retirement home with hundreds of clubs. Despite the sunny environment, Martha (Diane Keaton)’s come here just to die. Then she gets reeled into starting a senior citizen Cheerleading Squad by horny neighbor Sheryl (Jackie Weaver). With a small team (including Pam Grier and Rhea Perlman) and training from a young cheerleading choreographer (Alisha Boe), Martha enters a Cheerleading competition.
This film is one of those films you take your mother too, so it’s perfect for this month. It seems like a harmless good time staring beloved actresses who’ve been in the business for a long time. Though I will admit, you’re probably not going to remember it by the end of the year.
TOLKIEN
I think JRR Tolkien needs no introduction. By now, his tales of Middle-Earth are ingrained into modern Pop Culture, especially after the Peter Jackson movies. You don’t even need to have read the Hobbit or seen the Lord of the Rings trilogy to know what Hobbits are. And now we learn about the man who brought this world to life in the biopic Tolkien.
Nicholas Hoult (Mad Max: Fury Road, Warm Bodies) plays the author during his time as an Oxford student and a WW1 soldier. Judging by the trailer, the film seems to be going the route of the Theory of Everything and centre the film around his relationship with Edith Mary Bratt (Lily Collins). The film also looks to showcase his friendship with fellow artists Rob Gilson (Patrick Gibson), Geoffrey Blache Smith (Anthony Boyle) and Christopher Wiseman (Tom Glynn-Carney), who would from their own secret society called the Tea Club and Burrovian Society (TCBS). And of course, it will show us Tolkien’s experience during World War 1.
There is a strong chance this film will just be a typical, forgettable biopic with the usual clichés of the naïve youth dreaming of changing the world and the girlfriend serving as a source of support. What I’m hoping to get out of it is seeing where Tolkien drew inspiration for the immortal Middle Earth books. It helps that the film sticks to his youth while other lesser films rush too quickly into his whole life like Bohemian Rhapsody did.
MAY 17:
JOHN WICK 3: PARABELLUM
The second John Wick left us on one hell of a cliffhanger when Master ex-assassin/dog lover John Wick (Keanu Reeves) broke the code by killing client Santino D’Antonio (Riccardo Scamarcio) in the Assassin’s hotel when he betrayed Wick. The closing sequence of Wick racing against time to get out of town while assassins wait for the time to run out made you very excited for the third movie. And judging by the trailer, John Wick 3: Parabellum won’t disappoint.
The film picks up right wear the second film leaves off with Wick rushing to find a way out of New York. The High Table has placed a fourteen million bounty on his head and every assassin is looking to collect (and take down the legendary “boogeyman”). With nowhere to run and outnumbered, Wick uses every means at his disposal to take down every assassin within proximity. Considering the fact Wick once took down a whole group of assassins with a pen, it’s the assassins who should be worried.
Despite a simple plot about an ex-assassin going after a gangster’s son for killing his dog, John Wick blew everyone way with masterful direction from former stuntman Chad Stahelski and David Leitch that elevated the action genre in many ways. First, is the fully realized world of the assassins, where they live by strict codes of honor, are paid by gold coins and have their own cleaning crew and hotel. Plus, there’s the amazing cinematography from Jonathan Sela (the first one) and Dan Laustsen (the sequels), who showcase the elegance of Wick’s world and enhances action scenes with beautiful neon lighting. And then there’s the fight scenes; those glorious fight scenes. While most modern action scenes shoot too close and cut way too quickly, the actions scenes in these films are shot and edited with a smooth rhythm to showcase the actor’s stunt work. No actor shines more than Keanu Reeves, who went through months of weapons training and martial arts training doing what he does best; kicking ass. Sure, he’s a wooden actor, but he comes to life during action scenes, where he showcases his energy and grace.
We have quite an all-star cast. We see the return of old favorites including Continental Hotel owner Winston (Ian McShane), his concierge Charon (Lance Reddick) and The Bowery King (Laurence Fishburne). They are also joined by Anjelica Huston as a mysterious leader known as the director, Jerome Flynn as fellow assassin Berrada and Halle Berry as Wick’s estranged partner Sofia.
THE SOUVENIR
Could this be an overlooked gem of the month?
The film centres on the rocky relationship between young film student Julie (Honor Swinton Byrne), an unpredictable intellectual named Anthony and Julie’s mother (Tilda Swinton). On the surface, the premise doesn’t seem like much. But what may make this film stand out is the deliver; portraying the complicated ups and downs of relationship. It could either be compelling or pretensions.
THE SUN IS ALSO A STAR
Natasha Kingsley (Yara Shahidi) is a highly academic student is a firm believer of logic. Daniel Bae (Charles Melton) is a “good student” who is a closeted romantic poet. One day in New York, their lives cross paths when Daniel saves Natasha from being hit by a car. Soon, they find themselves debating over their beliefs. Natasha doesn’t believe in love and thinks Daniel should give up his unlikely dream of being a poet. Daniel makes a bet he can make her fall in love. But they both have problems right now. Nathasha’s trying to keep her family from being deported and Daniel’s must choose between pleasing his parents and going his own path.
The film’s based on a novel by Nicola Koon. That book took me by surprise with a compelling story with a strong dynamic between two different people, with excerpts discussing unusual probabilities between chapters. The excerpts add to our protagonist’s debates about fate vs. logic, but I wonder how writer Tracy Oliver (Girls Night) will apply these elements into the movie. Novels can intercut a story with random segments, but movies rely on a more consistent flow.
As with many romances, this depend on the chemistry between the actors. Shahidi’s garnered attention for playing wannabe fashionista Zoey Johnson in Black-ish and the underrated Grown-ish. Melton’s spotlight is also growing thanks to his role as Reggie Mantle in Riverdale. But can they carry a movie?
MAY 22:
THE TOMORROW MAN
Since the death of her daughter, Ronnie Meisner (Blythe Danner) spends her life at an emotional distance, often buying items she never uses. The one day, Ed Hemster (John Lithgow), who makes her let her guard down. But Ed has problems of his own. Worrying about the future, he’s built a fallout shelter where he stacks nonperishables. Through each other, Ronnie and Ed have a chance to move to the present.
The main reason I included this on the list are the two main leads. Danner is one of those underappreciated actresses who appear in a lot of movies and tv shows but you never remember her name. She finally gained some acclaim in her rare lead role in the underrated gem I’ll See You in My Dreams. But even then, she was back in supporting roles in overlooked films. Of course, it’s because Hollywood rarely writes roles for middle aged or elderly women unless she’s Meryl Streep or Helen Mirren.
And then there’s John Lithgow. He’s one of few actors who elevates a scene just by being there. Whether it’s the Dawn of the Planet of the Apes or Third Rock from the Sun, he always delivers a top-notch performance no matter the genre or quality. Personally, I found him to be the only good thing in the awful sitcom Trial & Error. The main reason I’d watch this film is because of him.
MAY 24:
ALADDIN
Another live action Disney remake.
I don’t think I need to explain the synopsis. By now, everyone knows the story of Aladdin like the back of their hand. So, let’s focus on whether we should bother with this remake.
On the surface, the film has a lot going for it. Mena Massoud and Naomi Scott seem perfectly cast as Aladdin and Jasmine, resembling them while adding their own touches. The setting of Agrabah looks colourful while obtaining just enough believability. And you’ve got Will Smith playing the Genie. Sure, he’s no Robin Williams, but then again no one can be Robin Williams. I’m hoping he choses to make the character his own instead of trying to copy William’s performance.
But then people started complaining that the Genie wasn’t blue in the promotion photos. The Studio assured the audience that the Genie will be blue. Well, be careful what you wish for, because you could end up with Will Smith’s face poorly added to a CGI abomination. Cue the second teaser and the angry aftermath. It should be noted that studios will often release film trailers with unfinished special effects. They were able to remedy this with a later trailer, with much better CGI and showcasing more elements of the film.
The area where I do have concern is with Director Guy Ritchie. He has taken the cinema world by surprise with his indie film Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and his follow up Snatch. But since then, none of his later films truly stood out. The main problem is a classic case of style over substance. He fills his movies with flashy imagery and dazzling camerawork, but the plots are not as engaging. The question is whether he can get out of his own way for this film.
BRIGHTBURN
It’s surprising nobody’s put a horror version of Superman before this. I’m guessing its fear of copyright issues. But here we are.
On the surface, it follows the Superman story to a tee. A superpowered baby falls from the sky and is taken in by a humble couple. He struggles to grow up in a small town while he discovers his power. In this case, the kid is Brandon Breyer (Jackson Dunn), his adoptive parents are Tori (Elizabeth Banks) and Kyle Breyer (David Denman) and the town is Brightburn.
Unfortunately, this kid has no intention for using his powers for Truth and Justice. Instead, he uses his powers to get revenge on anyone who wronged him. If a kid bullies him, he’ll crush her hand like a twig. [1]Any adult who grows suspicious of him, he can fly right into them or burn them with his laser vision. He knows he can get away with anything, and there’s nothing anyone can do about it, not even his loving step mother. So, he dons a mask and terrorizes everyone in town.
The film’s vague on Brandon’s motivation. Judging by a clip from a teaser with the Brandon trying to get to the ship, there’s a chance he was sent to earth to cause destruction. Or maybe he’s just a sociopath with too much power. What is certain is the creativity of the premise. You’ve got a kid whose indestructible, has amazing abilities. But he lacks restraint. He could take over an entire city. How do you stop him?
What may elevate this film is Elizabeth Banks’ performance. As she tries to stick up for Brandon, you can see she’s torn between her love of Brandon and her fear of his actions. It could provide an emotional core for the film that will offer more impact for the audience.
MAY 31:
GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS
With the success of the 2014 American adaptation, the one and only Godzilla returns, and he’s brought some friends.
The secret organization Monarch led by Dr. Ishiro Serizawa (Ken Watanabe) have their hands full a roster of Kaijus (giant-sized monsters) appearing across earth. The fan favorites are all here, including Mothra and Rodan. Their only hope is Godzilla. But he faces his biggest challenge with King Ghidorah, the three-headed behemoth three times his size.
Meanwhile, Monarch member Dr. Emma Russel (Vera Farmiga) is searching for her daughter Madison (Millie Bobby Brown), who is lost in the carnage.
The film has an all-star cast, including Sally Hawkins (returning as Serizawa’s assistant Dr. Vivienne Graham), Game of Thrones’ Charles Dance, O’Shea Hawkins Jr. (Straight Outta Compton) and Thomas Middleditch. But let’s admit we don’t watch these movies for the human characters. We’re here to watch giant monsters destroy cities and duke it out.
But Kaiju films need to centre on human characters to ground the film and portray the consequences of the destruction. There’s just one problem; the human characters are almost never interesting. One of the few exceptions was Bryan Cranston’s character in the recent film, but he’s gone way to early in the film. Hopefully writer/director Michael Dougherty will flesh out the characters in this film so we’re not waiting impatiently for the monsters.
While we’re here, I should discuss the obvious plans for a Kaiju cinematic universe. With the success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, every studio has been trying to create their own cinematic universe, from Warner Brother’s DCEU to Universal’s “Dark Universe”. In this case, the cinematic universe would be the MonsterVerse; Hollywood’s adaptation of Japans iconic Kaiju films as well as the return of King Kong. But most of them failed because the films fail to stand on their own. Unlike the other attempts, Legendary Entertainment waited for audience reaction with the 2014 Godzilla before starting this cinematic universe. Despite criticism over the lack of Godzilla onscreen (less than a half hour), the film was still a hit. Next was King Kong: Skull Island, an on the nose allegory of Vietnam that never took itself seriously. The film also became a minor hit despite criticism. And after this upcoming film, King Kong and Godzilla will faces on in a later film. I am excited.
MA
Oscar Winner Octavia Spencer reunites with The Help director Tate Taylor for this creepy flick from the horror hitmaker Blumhouse.
Spencer plays the title character, a lonely woman named Sue Ann. One day, she’s approached by a group of underage teens to buy booze for them. She not only obliges them, but she allows them to use her basement for parties. She seems like the coolest adult to them.
Then Ma grows clingier, calling them and following them around. Things get creepy when she comes to their house, where we find out she went to high school with their parents. You can be they somehow wronged her in her youth and this is a form of revenge for her. It certainly seems with the creepy image of Ma sewing one girl’s mouth shut and tying a teen boy to her bed.
Blumhouse are on a roll, distributing one horror hit after another including the Visit, The Purge and Happy Death Day. They’ve even brought us some ground-breaking films like Get Out and Paranormal Activity. And Ma looks like it could be a worthy addition to their library with Spencer channeling Annie Wilkes from Misery.
ROCKETMAN
We conclude with the biopic of pop icon Elton John (Taron Egerton). We follow him from his early years as nerdy English boy Reginald Dwight to his rise as a mega superstar. It has all the major moments, including his big break at the Troubadour, his many over the top costumes and his struggles with his homosexuality.
I’ll be honest, I’m growing tired of recent biopics. They all go through the same song and dance. First, we see their troubled childhood, usually dealing either one terrible parent or one strong parent pushing the kid to rise above their surroundings. Then we see them form a band, they perform one song, then cut to them filling stadiums. And of course, you can’t seem to have a biopic without a naysayer producer, brief cuts of them writing songs[2]  and the third act of the star descending into drugs and alienating those he loves. They play it too safe. The only one that felt refreshing was The Motley Crue Biopic the Dirt[3].
To be fair, Rocketman seems to add a few elements to separate it from lesser biopics. First, it’s written by Lee Hall, whose pend upbeat yet grounded British class films like Billy Elliot, War Horse and the underrated play the Pittman Painters. Plus, the film looks like it’s going to be a musical, with people bursting into song. But what makes this film stand out is its style. The film takes a more stylized approach to it’s visuals, including having the crowd float in tune to the title song. I suspect the visuals will serve as a tour into John’s subconscious.
[1] It reminds me of a scene from Superman where Jonathan Kent tells Clark he can do such a thing “but what that would make him.” I guess Brandon answers that question.
[2] Often portraying it as a quick burst of inspiration instead of a long process of fine tuning the creative process is.
[3] That’s thanks to the film’s energetic editing, Hard R-partying and fearlessness in showcasing the Band Member’s ugliest moments.

Ep. 12 - “Fly my ass back to Hawaii and dump me in a volcano” - Andrew (Pt. 1)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So I guess All Stars is just gonna be me watching the people I know and love go home one after the other at this point. At this point, I shouldn't be shocked or mad. Rhea, Karen, even Brandon to an extent. Who's next is my only question. Shockingly, to not my surprise, Jordan and Ash couldn't be trusted!!!! Who could have foreseen this? Well, I could, and I did. Anyone with common sense and a brain could have, but I guess that's too much to ask. Like with Ash, I had zero expectations. Jordan... I mean, there was at least a low bar, a very low bar. Because as far as I can recall, I've been completely honest with Jordan each tribal I've been with him... And yet each time he goes against his own word, then we make up afterward, and it's just... I don't even know. I'm totally numb to betrayal by now. Also Gage's vote is hilarious. "I don't take kindly to lies" wow bitch me too the fuck???? Kinda why I voted for him cause like, at every tribal all my interactions with him have been lies built upon lies, sometimes mutually and sometimes from him. But there's no actual trust and we've just been pretending every round, so I'm glad we've finally dropped it and we can acknowledge the tension. Jordan said I'm not on the bottom of the tribe...which sounds fake but, okay. Maybe I can work with him, maybe I can't, but really I'm just praying for once that we swap one last time to save my ass.
Tumblr media
I am so so so so shook right now.
Tumblr media
Conf #18: wow! final 14! Im doing so much better than the other two games that i wont talk about. Im concerned about this immunity challenge because usually when it comes to touchy subjects I feel like I know how the game is going, but with all the swaps I feel like I know nothing about what people are thinking it concerns me. *Coco Peru voice* that bothers me. As far as the double tribal? *Yawn* but also im ready to die again, hopefully I can get people to go after mitch!!!
Tumblr media
Honestly this tribe swap has me wet. I'm on a tribe with a bunch of icons like daddy Andrew or Sam B or fake Sam, even Steffen to an extent. More importantly I am away from that horrible nest of snakes from my previous tribe. The bad thing is Samantha wants to go after Jay, because Jay tried coming for Sam at some point, which is horrible. And if I had to choose right now I'd vote out Jay over Sam just because Sam unlike some people hasn't blindsided me!!! But no I'm not bitter or anything, why would I be bitter? I mean I shouldn't be because it's not like I considered those people trustworthy or anything!!! Anyway. Mitch is obviously siding with Jay, which leaves three people in the middle. Sam and I both want Andrew because he's trustworthy (and Sam also wants him because he's hot and I have no issues with that). I trusted Andrew the most at the very beginning of the game, and we've both been through a lot but hopefully that connection is still there. That leaves Steffen and fake Sam as the swing votes...... Idk how much I trust either of them. Steffen did side with me at the Chrissa tribal, Sam sided with the snakes at Brandon's tribal tho.... So yikes!!!! We'll figure that out tomorrow!!!
Tumblr media
OKAY. So this new Kyaal tribe? EW. ALL MY FRIENDS ARE ON THE OTHER TRIBE AND I MISS THEM OKAY? NOT REALLY THO. I'm so chaotic in here wtf. Anyway, SO I'm back with Jordan Pines, which is litty titty. I feel like I actually can trust him because he gives me A LOT of tea like all the time. Whether or not it's all factual is another story, but at this point I'll take what I can get. I'm also still with DADvid. He's my Dad, check my birth certificate. He is such a good person and I'm so happy we've gotten so close through this game because we have had a lot of time to get to know one another in various communities and never have. So David told me he is pretty sure of a Drew/Jay/Mitch thing thang going on and I believe it! Drew just had a moment in the HOS15 VL when Jay was evicted so that's confirmed. ADDITIONALLY, Jordan just told me that Mitch found an idol (which isn't surprising) some ruby idol bullshit that makes everyone go to rocks??? Apparently Drew has it right now and knowing my luck I'll be rocked out of this damn game. But hey, I keep saying this but I'm so proud of myself for making it this far, so if I go, I go! (I'LL BE FUCKING PISSED AND PROBABLY NEVER PLAY ONE OF THES AGAIN IF I FUCKING GO HOME, I AM FUCKING SANDRA DIAZ-TWINE AND I WILL BE THE QUEEN THAT WEARS THE CROWN TWICE.)
Tumblr media
So who the fuck does Jay think he is exiling me?! Why me?! Clearly he has some plan to get rid of me because we're not working together so he isn't exiling me to get the clue or anything so obviously he wants me gone. If for some reason he DOESN'T want me gone he's crazy because now I'm just pissed off. I don't get to just waltz back into the tribe with immunity like Drew does. I'm gunna have to scramble and make sure it's not me and this is gunna be so annoying. Plus he just messaged me "I'm exiling you I hope that's ok" LIKE NO ITS NOT FUCKING OKAY YOU DIMWIT FUCK WHY THE FUCK DID HE CHOOSE ME??? Also I just looked at the touchy subjects results and I got who has the most F2 deals? Technically I have none because I haven't actually talked to anyone about going to the end together AND I really only talk to Steffen, Drew, and Jordan so like fuck I'm so mad because it looks so bad on me. I'm just really overall pissed off right now and I can't believe I can't even rant to anyone! I feel like Drew and Jay are tight. I started going off not even thinking of it as a game thing but more like I'm frustrated and want to rant to a friend about it but then I remembered back on the first tribe when Jay, Drew, and Mitch were all so far up each other's ass it was disgusting so like I can't even talk to Drew about it because he'll go run and tell Jay and be all fucking annoying. I just want Mitch and Jay gone so bad. Steffen better be able to pull some people in and make sure it's Mitch and not me. If I go home because Steffen can't strategize to save me I'm gunna suffocate him when he comes to visit
Tumblr media
I'm back and alive A lot of things have happened, and apparently confessionals aren't mandatory, so I haven't been writing things! That's great. So the last time I wrote a confessional was the round before Billy right? Ok So I sort of kind of may have manipulated the vote against Billy. I heard from Van that her and Billy were trying to flip the vote onto Charlotte, so I told Charlotte that Billy might have been trying to target her, and she easily flipped to Van and I. Jay didn't want to vote Billy, so it was 3-2. I'm glad I got him out of the game at least. I love Billy as a person, as a player, whew. He reamed me afterwards, and every bad thing he said about me was truly well-deserved. So then we swap, fun shit. Expected. We played Kanto! I got gay pokemon, but no idol or whatever. I have a team of cuties, so that's all that matters to me.<3 I couldn't play the grass game, so we kinda had to go to tribal. David was the target, but he whipped out an idol and his one vote for Punpun sent them home, which is disappointing. But fuck, good job David. Props to you, I ain't even mad. Apparently Van was voted out of the other tribe which SUCKS because I had to vote out Billy to protect her and then she just went home anyway??? Uggggh My friends keep leaving. We stayed in Kanto for a week and I got to play Pokemon LeafGreen. I caught 111 pokemon and earned myself a trip to exile, which was mostly pointless, and our tribe got immunity. I wasn't even playing to win, I just really love FR/LG. But of course I'm secretly digging my own grave, because who wants to keep a tryhard around at/before merge??? No one. I gave my idol to Drew because he said he might've been in trouble. It was insurance in case things turned sour. BUT APPARENTLY AT THEIR TRIBAL IT WAS UNANIMOUS VOTE FOR CHARLOTTE. I love Charlotte... She was my #1 man. I wanted to help her get far. And then Drew told me she might've been a catfish. So... Maybe that was for the best, idk. COME TO THINK OF IT, a first boot being considered an all star is VERY suspicious... I want my idol back tho. Also Karen went home at the other tribal!!! Bless up. Jay told me she had a sapphire idol so that is... good that she's gone.  ALSO Dan has the Whetu idol and I'm surprised but also not. So here we are on new tribes, and what better way to put a fire under my ass than to play touchy subjects??? Do I have good luck with this game? No. Do I usually get nice answers? Yes. Did I get them this time? Not...really. People think I have an idol and they want to vote me out next. Which is unfortunate, because now I honestly don't have an idol. And I'm going to be traveling tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So I can't even really talk to people and defend myself!!!!!!!! Fortunately I at least have Jay and Andrew on this tribe. Sam G and Kevin would likely vote with me too. I don't want to vote Steffen because I just told him I wouldn't and meant it. So that leaves Sam B, who just won Panem and should go... We'll see how the chips fall. Maybe I'll get my idol back, maybe Samg and Kevin like me enough to keep me around, and maybe I'll live another day. If not, oh well, I made jury.
Tumblr media
When you accidentally send a confessional....to the wrong game....hosted by Jay....and it's talking about Jay...and it reveals your allies........ I'm actually gonna hate myself if this fucks my game up why do I do these things
Tumblr media
"Not to nitpick at the Touchy Subject results but the fuck! Firstable Ash and Gage put me down as backstabber like besides last vote which was just me returning the backstabbing to Gage, when have I done that... Second of balls, people forgetting I'm in the game? Well, not shocking, I'm naturally irrelevant. Still won't stop me from being salty but. So um if Jay goes after Sam B he's officially cancelled, because I would literally die for her every day of my life I had to. And the fact that he's immune....sigh. I don't know if he trusts me but!!! If he doesn't he can catch these gay 12 year old hands. Sam B and I want to go after fake Sam now because she has too many allies (she wanted to go after Mitch but uh, I think not). Idk what Jay thinks about fake Sam but he did send her to Exile so there's that. Hopefully Andrew and Steffen will come through???? Because if I have to watch Sam B die I might as well drop dead to the floor right now because there would be no point in living after that"
Tumblr media
Andrew wants to form an alliance of me him Jay and Mitch. Like, I love those people, but you know who that excludes? Sam!!!!! You know who I would never vote out in a heartbeat? Also Sam!!!! Voting out Sam would be like Ciera voting out her mom except actually important and heartbreaking (but it would still be a hashtag game changing big move). So I kinda bs'd to Andrew saying I don't trust Jay because he voted out Karen (also my mom) which is half the truth. The good news is Andrew said we should choose between Steffen and fake Sam. While Steffen has backstabbed me once, we're supposedly friends now cause he was like "miss you!!!" when we swapped but like Gage did the same thing and look where that got me. But I don't wanna break that bond just yet. Sooooo I'm still gunning for fake Sam but Mitch was like "I like her" which just proves real Sam's about connections and yadda yadda. Really I just want to get to the point where I can stop distinguishing the Sam's and my life gets easier.
Tumblr media
I’m me and sara planning to search the well together
Tumblr media
So the vote should in theory be Ash tonight. I'm perfectly fine with Ash going home but I'm not perfectly fine with lying to Gage about it, but at this point unless Ash/Gage have an idol I don't foresee things changing. Thankfully Gage seems to like me so that is a plus. If there's an idol played it most likely will not be me going home. I don't love that it will be David going home though. Jordan Pines is a dear friend of mine, but he's just in general very aggressive. He has strong social ties to people and seems to utilize them when he needs things. He put together the 5 votes against Ash and it seems like a done deal. But I'm at a cross roads. Do I try to turn David and work with Gage and Ash to vote Jordan out? Idk. My concern is that endgame, people like Mitch/Drew/Jay/Jordan will be an unstoppable force in this game and idk if I'm ready for that. I'll probably touch base with David before my vote is submitted and if he thinks the plan is good, it's happening. If not, I'll just have to lie to Gage and possibly lose my newest ally's trust... :/
Tumblr media
I. Hate. Survivor. Here I am, dealing with important stuff, cleaning literal dog shit, and then here in the game shit hits the fan. Sam B wanted Sam G out. Jay wanted Steffen out. Sam B was fine with this. I tell Jay this. I also tell Jay Sam B wants Sam G out, but we can roll with Steffen. Jay says cool. But somewhere after some shitty sequence of events, Jay goes apeshit and throws out like, everyone's names and wants to vote out Sam B???? And doesn't tell me of course, even though he wanted to make sure "we're cool." So I guess keeping me in the dark, again, is a good way to gain trust. And then an even shittier thing happens. Sam B, fake Sam, and Steffen unite to vote out Mitch. I think voting out Mitch is the most effective way to weaken Jay, and Jay does need to be weakened. But voting out Mitch...and sending him to the jury...is difficult. I would rather send Mitch to jury over Sam. Sam said Jay directed votes back to Steffen... But I can't trust him, and I don't want to sit still and do nothing about that. He's fooled me once and I don't want to be fooled again, I'm tired of that happening. Voting out friends is hard, but I think tonight there's no easy way out.
