On 23rd August 1614 forces under the command of the Earl of Caithness landed on Orkney to suppress a revolt by Robert Stewart, son of Patrick Stewart, 2nd Earl of Orkney.
Patrick was the son of Robert, Earl of Orkney, a bastard son of King James V, his rule over Orkney was not a particularly pleasant one, earning him the nickname “Black Patie”. A cousin of King James VI he ruled Orkney with an iron fist.
Patrick’s reputation for extravagance, arrogance and greed was matched only by his love of finery - exemplified in the magnificent Earl’s Palace in Kirkwall. A contemporary extract from the 16th century “The Historie and Life of King James the Sext” tells us…….
“[Earl Patrick Stewart’s] pomp was so great, as he never went from his castle to the kirk, nor abroad otherwise, without the convoy of fifty musketeers, and other gentlemen of convoy and guard. And sichlike before dinner and supper, there were three trumpeters that sounded still till the meat of the first service was set at table, and sichlike the second service, and consequently, after the grace.
He also had his ships directed to sea to intercept pirates and collect tribute of foreign fishers that came yearly to these seas.
Whereby he made sic collection of great guns and other weapons of war, as no house, palace, nor castle, yea in all of Scotland were not furnished with the like.”
Patrick Stewart held the native Orcadians in very low regard. When not bickering with his own family, his time was spent feuding with the more powerful local families.
By 1606, Earl Patrick was heavily in debt and ignored a summons to appear before the Privy Council, in Edinburgh, to explain the complaints received regarding his extremely oppressive rule. He was even charged with treason but the charge was dropped in 1607.
The appointment of Bishop James Law, in the same year, marked the beginning of Patrick’s end. The bishop, a close friend and confidante of the Scottish king, James VI (and I of England), presented a petition before the king, describing the oppression suffered by the people of Orkney. It is thought he also made mention of the danger the Stewart family posed - at this time the islands were still more Norse than Scottish.
Earl Patrick’s financial mismanagement and his brutality against the local population led to him being again summoned before the Privy Council in 1609, and then imprisoned, firstly in Edinburgh Castle and then in Dumbarton Castle.
He didn’t take this well and sent his illegitimate son Robert Stewart to stir things up in Orkney in his favour. Robert’s attempt to comply with his father’s orders resulted in what amount to a rebellion against royal authority. Earl George Sinclair of Caithness - who had a score to settle with the Stewarts - came to the King’s aid, volunteering to lead and pay for an expedition to Orkney to quash Robert Stewart’s rebellion.
Towards the end of August a siege began at the Earl’s Palace in Kirkwall. Barricaded inside were as many as 700 rebels led by Stewart, eventually Sinclairs men breached the palace - the Stewart rebellion was brought to its knees by the work of a traitor working from the inside.
Earl George threatened to demolish St Magnus’ Cathedral as a reprisal against the Orcadians who had nearly ruined him but fortunately Bishop Law persuaded him otherwise.
In a summary judgement twelve of Robert's men were hanged, Robert was taken south to Edinburgh, put on trial, and hanged with five others.
Robert and his father denied they had planned the rebellion together, but Robert's accomplice, Patrick Halcro, insisted he had acted on Earl Patrick's instructions. Evidence was taken in Orkney from Margaret Buchanan, a servant who claimed she had read instructions for Halcro written by the Earl. She said that Halcro showed the paper to Robert, who tore it into pieces and they both told her it were better so, that it could do no hurt in time coming, and "the Earl of Orkney should not want his head for it".
Robert's execution evoked much sympathy from the people, owing to his young age, around twenty-two, and his "tall stature and comlie countenance".
The trial of Earl Patrick followed that of his son. His titles were forfeited and he was sentenced to death, but his execution was postponed after a plea from the chaplains, who, finding him so ignorant he could barely recite the Lord's Prayer, wanted time to educate him and give him Communion. The execution eventually took place on 6th February 1615, when he was taken to the Mercat Cross in Edinburgh and beheaded.
The picture shows a reconstruction of Earl's Palace, Birsay and how it looks now, in ruins, the third pic is the Coat of arms of Earl Patrick, you’ll notice the black cross over the the Scottish royal arms, this was a symbol of bastardy, while the second and third quarters show the arms of the Earldom of Orkney.

Decided to watch the 2 part finale of Ncuti’s season.
Positive things to start:
- Ncuti Gatwa has such lovely charisma and vitality
- RTD is great at making set pieces and titles.
But tldr, this era just isn’t for me.
Either I’m getting grumpier or RTD got more heavy handed with emotionality. All Murray Gold knows to do is compose Swelling Music for every scene to show rhe scene was emotional and important. As if they didn’t trust the audience.
(I miss Segun Akinola and makes me appreciate the Kiners even more.)
This seasons feels like RTD2 Electric Boogaloo down to adding a person or word that pop up every episode and claiming its a season arc.
I am also not into how UNIT is being used. Why the children?
Also I have bug bear.
RTD2 Critical below this line.
Why
Did the Soldier dude
Call the Command Center A “Bridge”?
Are they On A ship? A Starship? No?
Then Don’t Call It that.
My other thing is how weird it is that Rusty made a point not to fashion Fourteen’s sonic screwdriver into the usual fashion because he didn’t want it to look like a gun.
Yet, he gave a 13 year old a gun. The whole team except 15 year old Rose had weapons shooting at Sutekh.
Also, shooting bullets at a cosmic entity— c’mon.
As Superman once said— why? Already know bullets can’t hurt him but still kept using bullets.
Kate Stewart is more than her father but across Doctor Who media they keep forgetting that.
I actually don’t like this version of Kate and UNIT. I like UNIT when it’s a beleaguered taskforce, fighting tooth and nail for its existence.
The moment they get way too big, UNIT becomes insufferable.
I kind of now appreciate how in Chibnall era they were disbanded for most of it, so Thirteen wouldn’t be able to use them as a crutch and when they did exist, they get blown up.
Ncuti is great— and I wish RTD stops forcing this intense emotionality with Fourteen.
Rusty is great with set pieces and titles but ultimately leads to nothing.
I’m already over Mrs Flood.
I guess RTD fixed the Flux devastation with that act.
RTD2 just made me realize again that I am more partial to Moffat and Chibnall.
(But god imagine if this was a season led by Maxine Alderton. She’s such a great writer.)
Overall, this era is not for me… so I’m just gonna go back in my corner.

its bc the showrunners are cowards thats why. u can literally see the piercing hole in anthony stewart heads ear like giles should have had like. a little gold loop. esp pnce he got fired from being a watcher. u cant tell me that ripper didnt have crazyy piercings. ive made ny position on spike clear i think he should have had spiked piercings going all around the shell of his ear and done the stupid punk thing of having a safety pin shoved thru the lobe. oz should definitely had piercings like hes in a band and its rhe 90s like come ON. he should have at least double ear lobes pierced and his helix have a loop in it. maybe even his nose pierced too. i have strong opinions about this

For real. I hate Twilight too but Kristen Stewart is not rhe reason it sucks. Like the poor girl got a shit character and she’s such a good actress that dipshits everywhere think she is Bella. Jfc
I love it when sometimes people hating twilight is like: *something about Kristen Stewart not smiling* *thinly veiled homophobic comment* *something sexist about Bella* *something about sparkling vampires w homophobic undertones*

9 Facebook Live for Business Examples You've Got to See
With video marketing on the rise, coming up with a catchy and attractive video can be a huge challenge for those who lack the time (and money).
But as intimidating as streaming live might be, there is a variety of brand-boosting benefits to using the service that will only make you seem more trustworthy and credible as a company.
One of the most amazing opportunities Facebook Live offers is the ability to engage with your followers. With reactions, comments, and viewer numbers shown in real-time, you can prompt responses by asking and answering questions in your broadcast.
Facebook's newsfeed algorithm also favors Live videos so if you've got an important message to get out, this is likely a better option than a traditional text update.
Still not sure how to get started with Facebook Live?
To help generate some ideas, check out this list of several brands and persons using the platform to create viewer engagement, deliver desirable knowledge, and promote marketing campaigns.
Regardless if your business is large or small, each of these ideas can be utilized and recreated as a variation to fit your business.
Everyone knows Starbucks for their addictive and wide selection of refreshing coffee & tea and delectable treats. Back in September of 2016, Starbucks took to the road to embark on their first live event at Rufus King Park in Jamaica, Queens, NY for National Voter Registration Day.
Broadcasting this event Live had several advantages.
First, it brought attention to Starbucks' involvement in the community and allowed viewers who wouldn’t otherwise be able to make the event learn about its importance and its cause.
The broadcast began with a couple representatives of Starbucks touring the grounds of the park and introduced a variety of people participating and volunteering.
Soon after, their attention turned to a stage where Starbucks chairman and CEO, Howard Schultz and rapper, Common talked about the importance of voting.
Prior to the start of the event, Starbucks representatives encouraged viewers to send in questions to promote engagement. As promised, the reps later interveiwed the two men, which helped encourage viewers to stick around to see if their question was asked and what those responses might be.
2. Martha Stewart
When it comes to cooking or crafts, Martha Stewart is known as a go-to leader. Knowing this, she’s expanded her digital outreach to Facebook Live.
Here, she has streamed various videos showcasing how-to’s, recipes, AMAs, and even some behind the scenes of her daily life, but it’s her tutorial videos that really take the cake.
In the example below, Martha hosts a festive tutorial video in preparation for the holidays, sharing outdoor decorating ideas with special guest Kevin Sharkey to assist her.
One huge win for this video is how the entire tutorial uses products from the Martha Stewart collection that you can find exclusively at the Home Depot.
As the video progresses, Martha consistently reminds viewers about where to get the various products and talks up the features each item offers.
Since, unless you're staring at your phone screen know when people are entering at Facebook Live or how long they're staying, the video occasionally has a small unintrusive banner that appears at the bottom of the screen advertising the Martha Stewart Collection and directs users find it at The Home Depot. This acts as a call-to-action of sorts, giving people the opportunity to convert no matter when they tune in or out.
At the end of the broadcast, Martha and her guest also do a Q&A to keep users engaged and sticking around if they are interested.
3. ASPCA
Back in October of 2016, which happens to be Adopt a Shelter Dog Month, the organization launched their #31DaysOfRescueDogs campaign.
To promote it, some of the volunteers decided to go on a walk with several of their adoptable (and adorable) pitbull puppies around New York City.
With the walkers wearing bright orange shirts, and the dogs in orange handkerchiefs, they were a hard group to miss -- in person or in the video.
Their bright colors helped them to stand out among busy crowds. People they walked by would consistently take photographs and even share their photos and advertise the campaign on social media, ultimately spreading awareness.
During the broadcast, the host of the stream would continuously remind those watching the reason behind the walk and would encourage people to take part in the campaign, generating more donations from the Facebook audience.
If your campaigns that have the ability to utilize assets that may peak bystanders curiosity, taking it to the streets with a Live video may be a worthwhile way to spread your message.
4. Trey Ratcliff
Critiques, like IMPACT's Website Throwdown, offer a fantastic avenue for users to get personal feedback from experts in a variety of fields. While you traditionally see this more in a face-to-face format, Trey Ratcliff, a professional photographer, took critiquing to Facebook Live for a fun, engaging event for his fans.
In the example below, he encourages people to submit photos on his ‘Becoming an Artist' broadcast, on which he would pick a variety of the submissions and review them live on air.
Throughout each critique, he offers tips and tricks to his viewers to better their photography skills. This is a great way to build trust & thought leadership within your community and highlight your knowledge in your area of expertise.
Although he isn’t aggressively advertising his photography business, there's really no need to. Showing his knowledge will convince people to believe he can deliver exceptional work. This will subconsciously lead people to seek his services if they need/want it.
5. Sephora
One of the most common formats people have been using Facebook Live is AMAs (or Ask Me Anythings) with special guests that people might not otherwise be able to interact with.
This technique attracts a large amount of people who wish to take advantage of the once-in-a-blue-moon opportunity. It also helps prolong the amount of user watch time, since users stick around to see if their question is picked.
The format is casual, occasionally the guests will have informative discussions with one another while a participant off screen constantly asks questions as they come in from the live chat feed.
For almost every questions asked, the two make sure to advertise their products as offer solutions to many of the viewers dilemmas. The result is many viewers researching the recommended products online, reading reviews, and purchasing them if they find interest in it.
6. Stephen Amell
We all have a set of shows we binge-watch and obsess over.
In some cases, we idolize an actor in it, the storyline, or both, and the creators and actors of the shows know it. This leaves a huge opportunity for the actors or show creators to connect with their audience to continue to create hype for their series.
Arrowverse actor Stephen Amell does just that. Stephen does a variety of different live videos for his audience ranging from Q&As, behind the scenes peeks at the show, and sweepstakes and promotions.
Below is one of his videos where he has a Q&A for the 100th episode of Arrow and advertises his 'F**k Cancer’ campaign.
Similar to Sephora's Live video example, this gives fans the opportunity to indulge and engage with someone they may not otherwise have the opportunity to. It also ultimately helps the Arrow franchise overall by showing how its main character can be transparent with his fans and interact with them on a much more casual level.
Videos like this also enable Stephen to raise awareness for the F--- Cancer campaign that he holds dear to him, which he discusses in this video and others as well.
7. Mashable
One of the most useful outlets for Facebook Live we have yet to talk about is the concept of a daily show or series. This format enables those using Facebook live to create a consistent following that will continue to digest their content.
One media company that excelled in this format is none other than Mashable with live daily show, 'Mash on This.'
Below, rhe host, Dory Greenberg, describes as “a 10 in 10 rundown of the best the internet has to offer.”
Live videos like this that can deliver a ton of important trending information is a short period of time are fantastic ways to attract users who want to stay up-to-date, but don’t have time to do so.
They also take a minute to answer viewers questions and discuss comments at the end of the video, another useful way to create viewer engagement with the creators.
8. Kohls
In this day and age, more and more people are looking for motivation to stick to their diet and workout plans (especially during colder seasons).
Luckily, Kohl’s understands that struggle and decided to help those looking for encouragement in 2017.
Last week, Kohls teamed up with ‘’ to host a live workout for their campaign. The women behind Tone it Up took to a stage for basically a live workout video.
Now, the timing for a video is key. With the new near just arriving, there's a huge audience of people looking get back into shape after the holidays. Hosting a video to attract those looking for fun and unique workout opportunities at this time was a great way to capitalize on this new year trend.
Need a new workout wardrobe? After watching this video, Kohls hoped that it would be the first thing in your mind. While the video didn’t vocally promote retailer, visiting the website (as of the third week of January) reveals an abundance of sales they are currently having with fitness gear and clothing.
9.
Last, but not least thanks to Facebook Live, you don’t need to produce a complicated, high-quality video to deliver valuable information to your audience.
As long as its informational and offers value to your audience, you'll be able to find some success.
Take this Bloomberg video, our final example. As an industry leader in the stock market, Bloomberg knows its following would be interested in hearing updates on its status and what charts should be focused on.
As mentioned, the video doesn’t take place in a beautiful studio utilizing eye-catching graphics and images, but rather in an office, using a computer monitor to show the charts as needed. The video is kept short at just below 15 minutes, so people can quickly update themselves on their priorities in the market, then go about their day.
Like other examples, Bloomberg also ends with a Q&A to make sure viewers are getting the most information they can during their short broadcast.
Is your business struggling to find value from social media marketing?
In this free guide, learn how to transform your social media marketing efforts from a routine to a critical component in achieving your business goals.

A Blushing Book Review: Pepper Winters -- Pennies (Dollar Series #1)
***
Pepper Winters is one of my top 5 favourite authors and this book just solidified her place there for life!
This is a dark romance that will leave you desperate & aching for more. Pepper adds so much raw and gut wrentching emotion to her stories that you actually feel the tightness in your chest as your read her words, she breaths each page to life with her talented writing and creative mind.
It is important to know that this is not a story where a slave falls for her captor. It has graphic scenes and violent content that may challenge some readers as it shows the captor as the Monster he truely is. This is not a warm and fuzzy story it's dark and damaging, heartbreaking and tragic but so beautifully written that it lures you in .
Pimlico( Pim) has been kidnapped and sold into sex slavery, she has been abused physically and emotionally for two years by the man who brought her, Alrik (AKA -Master A) In the entire time she has been held captive she has been mute. Its her only form of defence and a brave and stubbon refusal to not let him have that part of herself. She has become so desperate for her freedom she would even consider death as her way out. Thats until she gains a new source of hope in the form of a man named Elder Preist an intense and mysterious business associate of Alrik.
Elder Preist is a self proclaimed theif and criminal so he is not exactly a knight in shining armour, but he might just be Pim's way out.The story ends on a cliffhanger that will have you frantically grabbing the second book in the series

AUDIO REVIEW: Narrated by Kylie Stewart & Eic Rolan
Length: 8 hrs and 21 mins
Kylie Stewart is an amazing narrator, I love the depth of the emotion she uses in her narration. Eric Rolan is a new narrator for me and took sometime to get used to his style but he portrays his character well and rhe more I listened to him the more I liked him.
The dual narration makes you feel so more more connected to the characters and it gives them a more realistic persona. The pairing of these two to their characters is perfect and their perfomance really enchaces the intencity of the story.
Female Narrator: 5/5
Male Narrator: 4/5
