Ok final one I promise 😅
Faye for the character ask? You know, since you always ask me about the RHB trio😂
Haha, of course! It's the blorbo-in-law swap...
-How I feel about this character: (Thanks to you,) I really love her!! We all know how dirty echoes did her, but I love all the ways you were about to highlight the good parts of her -- the kindness, quirkiness, and loyalty to those she loves. It's always so fun to have a character unendingly dedicated to the people she cares about!
-All the people I ship romantically with this character: I'm a sucker for her and Rinea the most -- two women who were blinded by love for a man, and when they were rejected finally found what was best for themselves (each other). They're both fairly quiet and shown to not get out much, so it's real sweet thinking of them giving each other courage and trying new things together! It's a really healing relationship, and I think it's so beautiful for both of them ;-; I also think her and Celica are really sweet, and has good drama with her mistaking her feelings for Celica as emotions towards Alm. Mmm, and Silque would be a lovely partner to add some calmness to her more eccentric behavior now and then <3
-My non-romantic OTP for this character: Lmao, I think it'd have to be Alm! Whether she's rejected or realizes she doesn't want him like she thought, I think they'd make really good friends after everything they've been through. They both have a solid respect and admiration for the others' strenghts. Also, I just think she'd make the perfect long-term friend of the king -- she strolls up to court to have tea and go for walks in the gardens and shit talk and laugh at all the inside jokes they had growing up.
-My unpopular opinion about this character: Well I think most people are in the same boat that her writing wasn't great, so I guess my unpopular opinion would be that I actually did enjoy her joining the war for Alm and Alm alone. Each character had a different reason (glory, competition, righteousness, knowledge, money), and Faye's is usually dismissed as shallow because of how she's written. But... that's exactly why I love Python so much: he joined the war for no other reason than to see Forsyth through it. As an isolated event, I think that it's valid and actually pretty beautiful that she joined in the name of love!
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: Speaking of Python, I think it would have been really fun to see her supports with some of the other Deliverance members! I think she could have gotten a lot of older sister advice from Mathilda and Clair, and Python could have gotten her into a bunch of trouble with him. She could gush about crushes to Clive, or get a calming chat about love from Lukas. I'm such a sucker for all the found family that's going on in the Deliverance, and she really could have used all those older siblings hyping her up!
#fe echoes#fe faye#dont even worry - i told you i love doing these!#i am always full of character thoughts >:3#yes - pretty much all these thoughts are thanks to you lol#we all know the original writing didnt do her any fsvors#but you have opened my eyes and shes such a sweet and beautiful character!#ask#rose posts

PALM OIL STOCKPILE EXPECTED TO REBOUND, ANALYSTS MAINTAIN 'NEUTRAL' STANCE KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 13 (Bernama) -- Research houses anticipate an increase in palm oil stockpiles in the coming months, potentially reaching the two million-tonne mark, following a recent decline. In July 2024, palm oil stockpiles fell for the first time since March, dropping by 5.4 per cent month-on-month (m-o-m) to 1.73 million tonnes. In research notes today, analysts from Hong Leong Investment Bank Bhd (HLIB), RHB Investment Bank Bhd (RHB IB) and Maybank Investment Bank Bhd (Maybank IB) forecast a further rise in palm oil stockpiles, maintaining their ‘neutral’ outlook on the plantation sector. HLIB expects the stockpile to resume its upward trend in August 2024, driven by a seasonal increase in the cropping pattern. However, exports are likely to weaken due to a narrowing price discount of palm oil against soybean oil. The investment bank noted that palm oil exports surged by 39.9 per cent in July to 1.69 million tonnes, as palm oil’s price competitiveness improved amid low vegetable oil inventories in major importing countries. “According to cargo surveyor Intertek Services, higher palm oil exports in July 2024 were mainly driven by increased shipments to Africa, China, the European Union, India and the Middle East. “Exports also fell by 12.2 per cent m-o-m to 470,700 tonnes during the first 10 days of August 2024, mainly dragged down by lower shipments to India and the Middle East,” it said. RHB IB also expects stock levels to gradually improve, potentially crossing the two million-tonne mark between November and December 2024, barring any unforeseen weather events like La Nina. “We are maintaining our crude palm oil (CPO) price assumption at RM3,900 per tonne for 2024 and RM3,800 per tonne for 2025,” it said. Maybank IB anticipates stockpiles to rise further by the end of the month, reaching 1.90 million tonnes, assuming the export trend remains weak throughout August. “We continue to anticipate a meaningful build-up in stockpile during the peak production months of August to October. "While we anticipate CPO prices to be under seasonal pressure over the next two months, we are raising our 2024 and 2025 estimated average selling prices (ASP) for CPO to RM3,850 per tonne (up by 4.1 per cent) and RM3,700 per tonne (up by 2.8 per cent) due to higher prices in the first half of 2024,” said Maybank IB. Meanwhile, Public Investment Bank Bhd expects palm oil production in the second half of 2024 to account for at least 55 per cent of its full-year production estimate of 19.5 million tonnes. It added that production for the first seven months rose by 10.6 per cent year-on-year to 10.7 million tonnes, with a m-o-m increase of 14 per cent to 1.84 million tonnes, driven by stronger production from Peninsular Malaysia, up by 13.9 per cent, and East Malaysia, grew by 15.3 per cent. “We will review earnings forecasts for stocks under our coverage during this upcoming reporting season, considering revisions to ASPs, unit costs, and output,” it added.

“The Ronald H. Brown Program (RHB) has helped me take steps to making my dream of becoming a lawyer a reality. Even though I’ve wanted to be a lawyer for a long time, I didn’t know where to start. I think the only thing I knew was that I needed to take the LSAT. With RHB I was exposed to the process of applying to law school with weekly guest speakers, evening events, and seminars where I got to ask practicing attorneys questions about their struggles through law school. These people and their empowering stories made me want to work harder and learn more about different fields of law. After graduating from John Jay, I plan to attend law school. I don't know which law school, but I'm going to aim high when I start applying. I hope and dream to one day be a Justice in The Supreme Court of the United States. I want to inspire other Asian Americans to aim high with their goals. I also hope to help create more programs that invest in the education of people who don’t have the means to continue.” - Lisa Cho, Criminology and Dispute Resolution Certificate, 2020

Elise Cooper Interviews Ronald H Balson
Defending Britta Stein (Book 6 Liam Taggert and Catherine Lockhart)
Ronald H. Balson
St. Martin’s Press
Sept 7th, 2021
Defending Britta Stein by Ronald H. Balson is a wonderful read. Although the book has some courtroom drama including legal strategy and loopholes, most of the story is Britta Stein’s recounting of the events leading up to and during World War II in Denmark. This is historical fiction at its best with bravery, betrayal, and redemption.
Britta Stein is a 92-year-old Jewish Danish woman who emigrated to America. She is being sued for defamation after being seen and then admitting to spray painting “Coward,” “Traitor,” “Collaborator,” and “War Criminal” on the walls of a restaurant. The owner, 95-year-old Ole Henryks, will be honored by the Danish/American Association for his many civic and charitable contributions. Frequently appearing on local TV, he is well known for his actions of saving Jews in Nazi-occupied Denmark during World War II and is considered a hero. But not to Britta who claims he was anything but and sent Jews to their deaths including her sister and brother-in-law.
Attorney Catherine Lockhart and Investigator Liam Taggart, husband, and wife, have agreed to defend Britta and have as an assistant counsel her granddaughter Emma. The plot alternates between present day Chicago (2018) and Britta’s oral account of her memories of her homeland of Denmark prior to the presence of the Nazis and during World War II. They are up against “Six o’clock” Sterling Sparks, Henryk’s’ shady attorney, who pushes for a speedy trial and is willing to waive witness lists and pretrial exhibits. Readers anxiously turn the pages hoping Britta will be vindicated since they take a journey with her during the horrific events.
What is very interesting is the way Balson contrasts defamation versus freedom of speech, the consequences of staying versus leaving, and Denmark’s role in protecting its Jewish citizens.
This book will stay with readers well after they finish the book. The author has an incredible way of telling a story with sympathetic heroes and monstrous villains before and during World War II. The story has mystery, intrigue, suspense, and history all intertwined into a riveting novel.
Elise Cooper: Why Denmark?
Ronald H. Balson: I wanted to tell the story of what this country did since it was so unique and extraordinary. They unified and came together as a country, they came together to hide, protect, and ultimately rescue 7,600 of their Jewish brethren from certain death. Other countries did not do it: not Belgium, not France, not Norway, not any other country.
EC: It was interesting that Hitler made a non-aggression pact with Denmark, The Cooperation Agreement?
RHB: Denmark got a pass from Hitler who considered the country small and not a military force. But he needed this country to get into the North Sea. For whatever reason he decided not to totally occupy Denmark and to peacefully co-exist. Denmark ran its own internal affairs and was allowed to govern their Jewish population until 1943.
EC: The Danish people were incredible?
RHB: I hoped to get across through the civil jury trial here in America what it was like to be a Dane and Jewish. As I recounted in the book, there were plenty of non-Jews who put themselves at risk to help save the 7600 Jewish citizens in Denmark. They were hidden in hospitals, churches, stores, and homes. Many also helped the Jews get to Sweden. I wanted to show how the Danes had emotional pride and belief in their own country.
EC: You discuss the debate about staying versus leaving?
RHB: I have this scene in the book between Catherine her lawyer, and Britta. Catherine says, “I know it’s easy for me to say in hindsight, and it’s not fair, I shouldn’t judge, but the consequences of staying were dire, yet they found some reason to ignore the writing on the wall, which to me defies logic and good sense.” Britta responds, that if they could see into the future a wiser decision could have been made; yet, they “would have packed up and left everything and everyone… your job, your home, your profession, and headed off blindly in some unknown direction… At that time, in 1943 Hitler owned Europe.”
EC: You seem to explore this in many of your books?
RHB: It is a constant theme in a lot of my books. They all had the same opportunity to leave. But how does someone leave everything including family and community. Where would they go? How many countries would have taken in millions of Jews? What the Nazis did continued to escalate, and no one could imagine the concentration camps. Many thought they could last out the war.
EC: How would you describe Britta-I thought of her like Golda Meir?
RHB: Really interesting. She was a spunky young woman and now in her 90s she is a spunky older woman. She is a fighter, passionate, principled, independent, determined, and headstrong.
EC: She was accused of having a Nazi symbol but denied it?
RHB: She said she would never use these symbols because then it becomes a part of her language.
EC: In the story there is an explanation between freedom of speech and defamation?
RHB: I have a scene in the book where Catherine explains to Britta that freedom of speech is not absolute. No one can use words to legally defame someone. If someone is accused of criminal conduct, crimes of moral turpitude, and coalescence with the Nazi Party there can be serious consequences. Traitor, Nazi agent, and Nazi collaborator are defamatory on their face. But couldn’t liar, informer, and betrayer be opinions?
EC: How would you describe the granddaughter, Emma?
RHB: She is learning a lot about her grandmother who she admires. She is a brilliant young lawyer who is articulate and dignified.
EC: What about the lawyer Sterling Sparks?
RHB: He is called “Six O’clock Sparks” for a reason. I have been practicing law for over 49 years and have met plenty of Sterlings. He knows how to work the media. Very flashy but not that sharp as a lawyer. Very brash, narcissistic, over-confident, and conceited.
EC: What do you want readers to get out of your books?
RHB: I think of historical fiction like cheating. The backdrop has already been written by history. My job as a writer is to create characters, a plot, and a setting to weave into the history, making sure a certain point is brought out. I want my readers to be invested in the fictional characters created. My goal is for people to learn something.
EC: What about your next book?
RHB: It will not have Catherine and Liam although I think I will write another one with them. This next book takes place in 1945 with some espionage. It will possibly come out in September next year.
THANK YOU!!

The Model 1873 'Trapdoor' Springfield was the first standard-issue breech-loadingrifle adopted by the United States Army (although the Springfield Model 1866 had seen limited issue to troops along the Bozeman Trail in 1867). The gun, in both full-length and carbine versions, was widely used in subsequent battles against the American Indians.
The model 1873 was the fifth variation of the Allin trapdoor design, and was named for its hinged breechblock, which opened like a trapdoor. The infantry rifle model featured a 325⁄8 Gta san andreas highly compressed pc. -inch (829 mm) barrel, while the cavalry carbine used a 22-inch (560 mm) barrel. It was superseded by an improved model, the Springfield model 1884, also in .45-70caliber.
The star after serial number indicates it was built i 1881-82 period using some parts from turned in weapons such as trigger guard, buttplate, bands, locks. Then with other new parts issued to militia units. The rifle may well have seen service in the Spanish American war. No record for that serial number exists in SRS records. The carbine itself falls right into the middle of the Custer serial number range and has all the original parts from when it was made, except for the stock which was updated to a sturdier 1877 stock. Lock is dated 1873 with eagle. Left side of stock has the 'ESA 1877' cartouche in oval, standing for Erskine S. Allin, the designer of the 1873.
Selection process(edit)
model 1888, breech open
In 1872–1873 a military board, headed by Brigadier-General Alfred H. Terry, conducted an examination and trial of 99 rifles from several domestic and foreign manufacturers including those from Springfield, Sharps, Peabody, Whitney, Spencer, Remington, and Winchester pursuant to the selection of a breech-loading system for rifles and carbines for the U.S. Military. The trials included tests for accuracy, dependability, rate-of-fire, and ability to withstand adverse conditions. Both single shot and magazine equipped systems were considered but, at the time, the single shot was deemed to be more reliable. Firing tests were held at the Springfield Armory and Governor's Island where the average rate of fire for the Springfield was 8 rounds per minute for new recruits and 15 rounds per minute for experienced soldiers. The board recommended 'No. 99 Springfield' which became the model 1873.(1)
Ballistics(edit)
The rifle cartridge was designated as '.45-70-405', indicating a .45 caliber (11.63 mm), 405-grain (26.2 g) bullet propelled by 70 grains (4.5 g) of black powder. It had a muzzle velocity of 1,350 feet per second (410 m/s), making it a powerful and effective load for the skirmish tactics of the era.(citation needed) A reduced-power load of 55 grains (3.6 g) of powder (Carbine Load) was manufactured for use in the carbine to lighten recoil for mounted cavalry soldiers. This cartridge had a correspondingly reduced muzzle velocity of 1,100 feet per second (340 m/s) and a somewhat reduced effective range.
Use in combat(edit)
The rifle was originally issued with a copper cartridge case and used in the American West during the second half of the 19th century, but the soldiers soon discovered that the copper expanded excessively in the breech upon firing. Dax font free download for pc windows. Another issue was the copper held in leather carriers created a green film that would effectively weld the case into the breech of the carbine when fired. This sometimes jammed the rifle by preventing extraction of the fired cartridge case. A jam required manual extraction with a knife blade or similar tool, and could render the carbine version of the weapon, which had no ramrod to remove stuck cases, useless in combat except as a club.
After the annihilation of Lieutenant-Colonel George Armstrong Custer's battalion (armed with the carbine and carbine load ammunition) at the Battle of the Little Bighorn in June 1876, investigations first suggested that jamming of their carbines may have played a factor, although archaeological excavations in 1983 discovered evidence that only 3.4 percent of the cases recovered showed any indication of being pried from jammed weapons.(2) This did not account for cases removed by a ramrod or other 'stick' nor for jammed rifles cleared away from the immediate battle area and outside the very limited archaeological survey area. Every Custer battalion weapon became Indian property. Captain Thomas French, M Company Commander was kept busy on the Reno defensive position line using the cleaning rod from his infantry rifle to clear the jammed carbines passed to him from the cavalryman on the line. The cartridge was subsequently redesigned with a brass case, since that material did not expand as much as copper. This was shown to be a major improvement, and brass became the primary material used in United States military cartridges from then to the present. After the Little Big Horn disaster, troops were required to perform target practice twice a week.
The black powder Model 1873 continued to be the main service rifle of the U.S. military until it was gradually replaced by the Springfield model 1892 bolt-action rifle, essentially a copy of the Norwegian Krag-Jørgensen action. Replacement began in 1892, and despite its obsolescence, the Model 1873 was still used by secondary units during the Spanish–American War in Cuba and the Philippines, where it was at a major disadvantage against Spanish forces armed with the 7 mm Spanish M93 Mauser bolt action rifle.

Thailand EXPOSED by depending on China for growth and tourism
#Thailand faces no shortage of challenges. Thai generals continue to grapple with an insurgency that has gripped the country’s south since 2004, and thousands of protesters rallied against Thai strongman Prayut Chan-o-cha just this January.
On February 8, meanwhile, a Thai soldier killed 29 and injured dozens in a mass shooting. The economy is struggling as well. Over 40 percent of Thais admitted that they could barely afford food in 2018, forcing Prayut to announce a $10 billion stimulus after Thailand’s economic growth slowed even further in 2019. The latest strain of coronavirus, the cause of an outbreak devastating China and many of its neighbors since late last year, has joined Thailand’s growing list of difficulties. Thailand has become ground zero for coronavirus’ international spread since reporting the first case outside China on January 13. The problem has only worsened. Thailand had confirmed 19 cases of coronavirus — the most in Southeast Asia at the time — by February 2. The count of Thai cases reached 32 on February 10 and stood at 33 as of this writing, although it has been surpassed in the region by Singapore’s 50 cases. The country will risk becoming not only a victim of coronavirus but also an incubator for it in the coming weeks. Coronavirus’ rapid jump from China to Thailand illustrates the extent to which the two countries have intertwined themselves in the field of tourism. The sector accounts for between 12 and 20 percent of Thailand’s gross domestic product and much of that income stems from China. In 2019, almost 11 million Chinese traveled to Thailand, representing the greatest share of its tourists that year at 27.6 percent. While Chinese and Thai officials have benefited from this relationship, it comes with risks. As authorities in Beijing and their counterparts across the world restrict Chinese nationals’ travel in a bid to halt coronavirus’ advance, Thais are exercising greater caution. https://bangkokjack.com/2018/11/05/thai-tourism-industry/ Many residents of Bangkok now refuse to shop at malls frequented by Chinese tourists. Nonetheless, the precipitous drop in visitors from China could represent as big a danger to Thailand as the coronavirus itself. The Thai Tourism and Sports Ministry expects that the number of Chinese tourists in Thailand will decline to 9 million in 2020. Even before the outbreak of coronavirus, Thai officials were voicing concerns about a lack of Chinese visitors. In the first six months of 2019, the number of Chinese tourists sank by 5 percent after an accident in the Thai resort town of Phuket resulted in 47 Chinese deaths. The rise in the value of the baht, Thailand’s currency, had also made Thai tourist attractions costlier for Chinese already affected by an American trade war. Coronavirus further strained a Thai industry already buffeted by challenges. Thai Airways, the Southeast Asian kingdom’s flag carrier, warned in October 2019 that it could go bankrupt, and Thailand had to close one of its most popular beaches last year because tourists were damaging a nearby coral reef. China’s current efforts to keep its holidaymakers from going abroad will do nothing to help Thailand reinvigorate a slowing economy all but dependent on tourism. https://bangkokjack.com/2020/02/12/10000-thai-tour-guides/ A report by RHB Bank predicts that Thailand will lose $3.51 billion because of coronavirus and the resultant drop in tourism from China. All the while, Thais have begun bracing themselves for the effects of twin financial and health crises. Tour guides at some of Thailand’s most popular tourist destinations, such as the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, now wear surgical masks. Prayut, Thailand’s divisive prime minister, has in the past few days found himself embroiled in the fallout of coronavirus’ spread. Thai Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul had to rebut rumors that the strongman had caught the virus after Prayut became sick and canceled several events. On a wider level, Prayut has come under criticism for doing too little to combat coronavirus. For his part, the former commander-in-chief of the Royal Thai Armed Forces has implored his people to “trust that the government is taking actions that are at international standards.” Under Prayut’s leadership, Thailand has drawn closer to China. In a 2018 interview with Time, he described China as “the number one partner of Thailand,” adding of the two countries’ ties, “The friendship between Thailand and China has been over thousands of years.” Prior to Chinese Premier Li Keqiang’s 2019 visit to Bangkok, Prayut heralded Chinese-Thai relations in addition to courting Chinese investors and promoting the Thai role in the Belt and Road Initiative. In a September meeting with senior Chinese diplomat Song Tao, Prayut voiced appreciation for China encouraging tourism to Thailand. A month earlier, Thai officials had introduced a plan to waive visas for Chinese tourists for up to a year. What effect coronavirus’ spread will have on cooperation between China and Thailand on tourism, if any, remains a question that officials in Bangkok and Beijing have yet to answer. Given Prayut’s iron grip on Thailand’s domestic and foreign policies, any drastic changes in Chinese-Thai relations would appear far off. In the near term, the outbreak of coronavirus has forced Thais to wrestle with the consequences of their country’s dependence on Chinese tourists. In light of recent estimates that tourism from China composes 2.7 percent of Thailand’s economy, the absence of Chinese visitors has caused a decline in the value of the baht. Thai authorities have also moved to request medical certificates from Chinese arrivals, further constricting tourism and the Thai economy as a whole. Thailand has for now refrained from resorting to the restrictions that other countries have chosen to impose on travel from China, likely recognizing Thai businesses’ ongoing need for Chinese patronage. According to Chinese journalists, their country is also receiving “moral support” from “the Thai government and immigration police,” an expression of Prayut’s affinity for China. Though coronavirus has revealed the dangers to which Thailand has exposed itself by becoming dependent on China for economic growth and tourism, Thai officials have shown no indication that they are rethinking a relationship that has drawn their country into dual financial and health crises. Prayut and his inner circle might have concluded that, whatever the costs of reliance on China, the price of pulling away from the world power could prove far greater. - The Diplomat – You can follow BangkokJack on Instagram, Twitter & Reddit.
