As much as I love Legend of Korra, I understand a lot of the criticisms and I am going to levy one of my own. The one that felt closest to my heart. And it is sometimes subtle but also blatant disregard they have for characters that come from diverse backgrounds. In that it largely goes ignored. Mixed people in the story always dress in their culture that they seem to have the most innate characteristics of. This is primarily done via if you ha e inherited bending powers are not. Bolin always wears earth nation green and make wears fire nation red. Despite they both grew up in a Republic city, a mixing pot of cultures and they themselves are mixed. Aangs kids all dress according to which side of the family they got powers from. And even bumi wears neutral colors untill he gets air bending powers. This could almost be commentary on how mixed people sometimes feel like they have to pick a side they "really are" something I've felt... something I've had enforced on me by others who told me I couldnt actually be latine. Except these kind of commentaries are rarely brought up especially when compared to how consistent this trope seems to be in the show. There is some attempt in season 2 but that seems to be more about there character assassination of Aang as a bad father then any more systematic or cultural aspect to this phenomenom, especially since.... the kids themselves never challenge those notions themselves. Like Kya is a free loving type, I think her more than anyone would be willing to challenge these notions... and yet she too is pretty much always in water nation blues.

And I feel like people eill say something but character design or color theory, the colors help express who they are. But that's only true if you limit these characters to their bending. This isnt a video game where you need clear colors or shilloutes so players can distinguish between characters. This is a show where character action and personality should inform design and vice versa.

fandom talks too little about hylla and reyna. reyna killed her father when she thought he'd killed hylla. hylla dragged them out of puerto rico and found them sanctuary and employment on circe's island AND became one of circe's favorites. then when they got captured by blackbeard hylla also got them out of that situation by out-pirating literal immortal pirates. then in a span of three years, they split up, found their own ways to the amazons and cj, and became the leaders of their respective factions. when hylla's queenship was being threatened by otrera in son, she plotted a counter-coup and defeated an amazon queen who couldn't die two nights in a row in one-on-one combat, THEN led her cavalry to camp jupiter. (ik this woman slept like a corpse for a week afterwards). hylla used reyna as an absolutely ruthless bait-and-switch to capture orion, and all reyna said in response to that was, "bet." reyna carries insurmountable amounts of both guilt and gratitude towards her sister. even though they havent seen each other in a while, hylla still drops everything and does everything in her power to save her baby sister when she knows reyna needs her.

Headcanon Nico has a mole under his eye but nobody knows bc people usually don't like looking into the eyes of a child of Hades. It also doesn't help that Nico's overgrown hair makes that harder.

Reyna, surprisingly, is one of the few who knows ab it, as she has watched Nico in his sleep.

A problem I have with Rick is that a lot of the time when he writes an lgbtq+ character, he writes them for a specific purpose like putting Reyna, the only aroace character, in the hunters of Artemis or that Alex Fierro, the only trans character, is a child of Loki.

Rick kinda brought up this problem in his good reads q&a section:

“… Are you going to add another trans character besides Alex?

Alex for instance just made sense as a child of Loki. So, basically I don’t know. I’m hoping to write about Irish mythology (if I ever get enough time with the other projects going on!) and gender fluidity is most definitely a concept that appears in the Irish myths, so that is a possible logical place where a trans character might appear”

I agree with him that making Alex a trans character makes sense but my problem is that trans characters can exist outside of having a gender fluid godly parent. People are gender fluid without having to be shape shifters and people are aroace without having to commit to celibacy or swear off dating.

I guess all I’m trying to say is that Rick shouldn’t limit himself to have a specific reasoning or trope that always have trans characters be children of gender fluid gods or aroace characters always joining the Hunt. He shouldn’t limit a character’s queer identity to their parents or anything.

okay but imagine the demigods getting matching t-shirts with their most traumatic experiences dumbed down on them because joking about your trauma is the solution to everything.

for instance,

Nico's would simply have the text "where's my sister?" written on it.

Reyna's would have "*throws chair*"

Leo's is a picture of a garage burning and "*explodes*" written underneath the picture

Jason's has the text "My mum sold me to wolves instead of One Direction"

so on and so forth, you get the idea.

Also it has been the world’s longest day, I’m exhausted, if anyone could spare wholesome silly headcanons (primarily valgrace/pipeyna and/or any platonic combination of these four characters but also just pjo in general) I would be incredibly grateful

Something something Jason feeling like he doesn't quite fit as "Greek" or "Roman" as a metaphor for bisexuality, particularly the semi-canonical bi-coding in his half of experiences during the Cupid scene and how Favonius and Cupid speak to him in parallel to the scenes confirming Nico is gay.

Something something the camps as metaphors for traditionally acceptable forms of relationships and Nico living as a rogue outside of them, rejecting expectation (ergo in himself representing a metaphor of queer identity and living outside of boxes and defined/usually hetero-allonormative/binary ideas of what love/relationships should look like) versus Jason struggling with the expectation to conform to a label and even discussing with Nico both of them remaining at CHB together.

Something something the inverse of Jason shifting away from the camps after he breaks up with Piper, feeling lost and unable to find a place between the camps as he begins to explore his queer identity properly for the first time versus Nico only remaining at CHB because he has entered a relationship. I am the world's last Jeyna shipper. I am one of those soldiers who never heard WWII was over and was hiding in the jungle. I understand that canon has moved on but I refuse to surrender. I don't even need the ship itself to be canon, could be totally platonic I don't care but as a matter of principle it has to be maintained.

Jason just flat out ditching Romans never sat right with me. All those backstory hints in TLH ignored. His history comepletely irrelevant. Not once do we see him interact with any old friends who are not otherwise involved. Oh I'm sorry he had never really felt at home at Camp Jupiter than why was he part of the swap. Ooh la la Pontifex Maximus I don't care he should have been the Roman's Roman. They got left with Frank and Hazel who will be great don't get me wrong but they aren't very expirienced as the quest starts. Jason is the only Old Hand who could have countered Percebeth on the Argo 2.

Look as I said above I don't actually need Reyna to wind up with Jason. But...like...something on their backstory. I mean they toppled the Throne of Saturn. Why was she of all people raised alongside him after they were victorious? But nope Romans get screwed over. I also don't like her joining the Hunt. I just don't like the implications of a woman who doesn't want to get involved with romance having to withdraw from the world entirely. Why can't she just be praetor and not have romance.

In conclusion I am the world's last Jason x Reyna shipper who also doesn't actually ship them in particular.

I while ago I was thinking about Reyna and her relationship with allonormativity, and these were the thoughts I dropped into the Discord server to explain my thoughts on it so far;

Because yeah - Rick has stated he thinks Reyna is alloace, and I can why people would think that, but Reyna just reads as arospec to me instead of acespec. But the thing is, Reyna's whole deal was centered around her relationship with romance - and asexuality doesn't cover that. Aromanticism does.

I'm spitballing here but like. Let there be girls who join the Hunt but aren't necessarily opposed to romance. Reyna has never once stated she isn't interested in a relationship, but that at this point in her life, it's not on her agenda. Figuring herself out is top priority, and I love that for her <3

so yeah. Demiromantic Reyna is my heart.

Insane how Jason discovered Nico’s secret in a place where he and Reyna once dreamt of coming and became friends with him for that whereas Nico and Reyna later went on a world saving quest and became adopted sister/brother.

KAY/O overhearing Raze say her "Killjoy, you and me until the end" voiceline and he immediately recalls the Raze from his previous timeline saying the exact same thing as she succumbs to her injuries in battle, using the last of her strength to crawl across the battlefield towards an unmoving Killjoy, a weak and bloodied hand reaching towards one that had gotten so still and cold.

A shattered pair of glasses and a cap smeared in paint and blood amongst the rubble.

Both unfortunate casualties from the Radiant War, bright and brilliant minds snuffed too soon.

And it's bittersweet, how similar the Raze and Killjoy are in this timeline from his own.

He only hopes they have a better ending this time around.
