Why Rey and Ben Solo are Twin Flames

So, this has been jumping out at me a lot lately and I couldn’t get my mind off of this after watching The Last Jedi twice now, and I just have to make a post about it. Rey and Ben are the actually definitions of “twin flames”.

If you don’t know what twin flames are, I will explain it to you. Twin Flames are like soulmates, but also very different. A person can have many soulmates in their lifetime, and a soulmate relationship is one with complete love, harmony, and compassion. Things are easy and natural with a soulmate and being with one feels like home. Soulmates can come in any form (lovers, family, friends). An example of a soulmate relationship is Rey and Finn.

A twin flame is similar to a soulmate, but is about 1000% times more intense. A person can have only have one twin flame in their lifetime. A twin flame is literally the other half of your soul. They are your mirror self, and you are both opposite yet the same, like yin and yang. Twin flames are also centered around love and compassion, but the journey is usually very difficult. When twin flames unite, they are shown all of their qualities, including all of their flaws and insecurities, since meeting a twin flame is like holding a mirror up to yourself. After you meet your twin flame, your life is almost guaranteed to never be the same again, since twin flames are meant to change each other’s way of thinking and how they see the world.

ONE

You are convinced you’re “meant to be” though your relationship keeps not working out. A soul mate is someone you spend your life with. A twin flame is someone who gets you ready for your soul mate. What makes a twin flame tricky, however, is that you confuse your intense love and passion for meaning it’s “meant to be.” You’re trying to make your twin flame, who is a teacher, into a soul mate, who is your forever love.

Rey and Ben both believe that they were meant for each other and were meant to be a pair, yet clearly it’s still a disaster. They both want the other to be with them but they are obsessed with their own small-minded views on what that means, which keeps them apart.

TWO

They have opened you up to a completely new way of thinking. With them, you exchange ideas, beliefs, religion, and so on. You’ve “awakened” because of their love.

Rey and Ben have both shown each other, that their previous views of the force were wrong. It’s not all black and white. They must learn from each other that they must embrace both sides.

THREE

They come in and out of your life. You’re together, and then you’re not, and then you are again. Despite the fact that you love each other more than anything, one of you (the “runner”) seems to not be able to handle it, and dissolve the relationship. It’s almost as though your connection is too intense for you to be consistently together.

This is already happening between them. Rey has shut Ben out, even though they both know in their hearts that isn’t what they want. The connection that they are sharing is too confusing, too powerful, and too intense for both of them to understand and handle correctly.

FOUR

They feel like home. Upon meeting them, you immediately sense that you’ve known this person before. Your connection is too intense for you to have just been strangers – there is a deep feeling of familiarity when you’re with them.

These two are so comfortable with each other for having known each other for such a short amount of time. They confide in each other and it comes so naturally to them, and we see this in the force connections between them.

FIVE

You are the epitome of yin and yang. They seem just like your other half, the parts of you that were missing all along. (What you’ve yet to realize is that they are the parts of you you’ve yet to know.)

I mean this part can’t be more obvious. Ben represents the dark side of the force, and Rey shows him the light side that he was missing, yet it’s been inside him all along. Rey represents the light side of the force, and Ben shows her the dark side that she was missing, yet it’s been inside her all along.

SIX

Looking back, you see that the period of time right after you’re with them is always defined by change. They bring about a lot of intense transformation in your life, sometimes painfully so.

After Ben and Rey meet each other, their lives start to change drastically. From the moment they have met, there has been a massive awakening inside of them. I mean, clearly nothing has remained the same since these two have gotten to know each other and it’s just been massive explosions of change all around them.

SEVEN

You will find yourself becoming almost irrationally emotional when you’re with them. (These are the feelings and energies that have been in suppression, which they are there in part to help you recognize and heal.)

I mean, this is a given lol. Clearly none of their emotions when they are around each other seem rational ever and it’s basically just a huge emotion fest whenever they interact. But, it is helping them heal and grow. It all has a purpose.

EIGHT

Your bond is instantaneous, and your relationship moves very quickly. Right off the bat, you “click” as though you’ve known one another forever. This only grows over time, and the more you get to know about them, the more absolutely in love you are.

The progression and speed of the connection between Rey and Ben is not something that happens with just anyone. They just click, and it’s something that I doubt they’ve ever experienced with anybody in their lives before. Their relationship and chemistry seems so natural, and as they get to know each other more, this feeling grows.

NINE

Though you experience incredible passion for this person, there is an equal amount of worry and uncertainty. You may find yourself questioning a lot, asking yourself whether or not this is really love, or really what you want for your life.

This is also a given. They both care so much for each other it’s unbelievable, but the doubt they also feel towards their whole relationship is just as apparent. They question every step they take towards one another.

TEN

It seems like you have this profound connection that must be destined, but you come into one another’s life at the wrong time, or something else stands in the way of you being together. This is not a product of ill fate, rather, it is a sign that you’re not meant to be together in the way you think you should. (The right thing at the wrong time is the wrong thing.)

Rey and Ben both feel the connection towards one another and that it almost feels like it’s so special that it must be destiny. Yet, they are on opposite sides of the war. They are supposed to be enemies. Rey believes in the light side, and Ben believes in the dark side. It seems as if they were cursed, star crossed lovers, but really, they are both meant to learn from each other and realize that they were meant to be together in a way that they are both too stubborn to see right now.

ELEVEN

You are more than just lovers. You are one another’s teachers, best friends, therapists, and so on. You have such a deep and layered connection that you do a lot more for one another than just be romantic.

They’re not even technically “lovers” yet, but they definitely are each other’s therapists, and friend. And the romantic connection between them is apparent even if they won’t admit that for now. They both also have so much to teach one another. Ben and Rey are so deeply connected, that it’s hard to describe.

TWELVE

It seems like you’re always pulled back to them in one way or another.

Although TLJ movie ended with Rey closing the door on Ben, I strongly believe without a doubt that they will be drawn back to each other no matter what.

THIRTEEN

Your relationship can be tumultuous at times. This is because your twin flame serves to show you everything that needs to be healed within you. This is not to be confused with “love” being painful. Love is not painful. Everything that stands in the way can be, though.

Rey calls Ben a murderous snake, forcing him to face what he has done and that he has caused so much damage, and killed his own father. Ben forces Rey to admit where her parents are from, and for her to finally be honest with herself. Then he tells her that she is a nobody, which is a harsh way of putting what he was trying to actually say, but he forces Rey to finally realize that she must accept that she has had a shitty past, so that she can finally move forward and realize her true potential, which is not defined by who her parents were. Through their harshness and bluntness towards each other, they also heal one another in ways that no one else in the galaxy could.

FOURTEEN

One of you is more “spiritual” than the other. One is more soulful, the other more practical. You teach one another the virtues of how you think and behave – that is part of your purpose.

I was trying to figure out how this one plays into Rey and Ben’s relationship. And I have come to believe that Rey is the more spiritual one or “awakened” one. She is so much more in tune with what is truly right for Ben. She knows he was meant to be good. Ben is more practical, saying blunt things like “let the past die. Kill it” which he has a point on but he takes it too far and doesn’t understand that he doesn’t have to take that line so literally. Rey is teaching Ben that the good in his heart is still there and alive, while Ben is teaching Rey to do the practical thing and let go of her meaningless past that doesn’t serve her anymore.

FIFTEEN

You feel very attuned to them, almost telepathically. You can feel what they’re feeling, or know what they’re thinking. It’s as though you are one.

I mean common, they have force connections because the force has bound them together (I don’t think that Snoke was the one that connected them). Enough said.

SIXTEEN

When you look into their eyes, you feel like you see family, or your own child. This is your soul recognizing someone it’s known before, or someone it’s very close to.

You can see that when Rey and Ben look at one another, they find comfort, and a home. They get lost in the comfort of staring in one another’s eyes.

SEVENTEEN

For as different as you are, you have many fundamental things in common. Maybe you were born on their favorite brother’s birthday, or you met on a very significant weekend. Maybe you both went to the same type of elementary and high school, or you had the same college major. One or two of these things could just be coincidence, but with a twin flame, you’ll probably have many overlapping similarities.

Rey and Ben seem opposite in every way, on the surface. But, they both soon realize that they really are the same deep down, simply wanting someone to feel connected to, and understood by. Also, Rey is drawn to Luke’s lightsaber, which Ben believes belongs to him. Fate is trying to tell them that it belongs to both of them.

EIGHTEEN

They show you what you most desire as well as what you most fear. Their purpose is not (and has never been) to make you feel “settled” or comfortable, but to help introduce you to yourself.

A twin flame relationship is not meant to make the twin flames feel comfortable and safe. It is meant to rock the boat, and change their lives drastically. Change at this level, is never peaceful or comfortable. Change is uncomfortable, and pushes people outside of their comfort zone. This is what Rey and Ben are experiencing. They are being shown who they truly are meant to be by meeting and getting to know each other. This is obviously not an easy process though, and has brought so much pain and heartbreak along the way.

And here is a great passage from that article that sums up the twin flame relationship perfectly:

Twin flames have unconditional love for one another, and unconditional forgiveness, despite their obvious flaws. The haters will say it’s “toxic”, but others will see that the pain and turbulence they experience together is allowing them to become their greatest versions, and to fulfill their destiny of bringing balance to the galaxy. This is different than a truly toxic relationship, where they bring each other down. Twin flames were meant to bring each other up by peeling back the painful layers and getting to the core of a person which is love, whether you are ready for it or not. What the haters want to see is a soulmate relationship, which is all about peace and comfort, but this wouldn’t make for a very interesting story, since if Rey was with a soulmate or Ben with a soulmate, they wouldn’t truly change. They are each other’s twin flames, which is the most painful yet beautiful and meaningful relationship anyone could ever possibly have, and it is what they need in order to change into who they were meant to become.

And that, is why I ship Reylo.
